  • Mail completely frozen

    About a week ago I tried to send a photo in an email. It wouldn't send. Ever since then, I have had no success in getting into email on my computer; also, my internet connection is very slow. I cannot print any of the "frozen" messages (900+), I cannot delete any, I cannot create messages nor can I receive new ones. I'm able to work with my email on my husband's computer, sending, receiving, deleting, etc., all the normal stuff. When I return to my computer, there is no change in that frozen account whatsoever. I called for Apple help and talked to five techies. Because my internet connection is also ailing, they thought it might be that my computer was no longer working with our Airport Extreme Base Station. Also went to the Genius Bar with the Base Station; It was decided the Base Station isn't the problem. Tried that techie's suggestions at home--delete mail "plist" and create new mail account with same user name and password; kept getting the message that name was already being used so couldn't create new account. (Hmm..did he mean create new user account for the computer??) Tried other suggestions from friends and 'net, e.g., hold Shift while restarting Mail; do Repair Permissions; remove Default Counts, EnvelopeIndex & LSMMap files; open Terminal and type "sqlite 3 ~/Library/MailEnvelope\ Index vacuum," etc. Still no go. I hope some of you smart folks can offer more suggestions. Thanks so much!

  • HP Laserjet 3390 kills Lion!

    I downloaded the HP Laserjet scanner/printer driver to my new Imac with Lion OS. It worked fine for a month besides the fact I had to go through the setup assistant every time I started my computer. Then yesterday a window popped up along with the HP steup assistant that said the finder couldnt restore windows. It has two buttons. One says Dont Restore windows the other says Restore Windows. It doesn't matter because the window strats blinking on and off and neither button works. I tried to force quit the finder in the terminal typing killall finder, nothing. I can't force quit from yhe computer itself because, I don't know why, but it doesnt work. I the items in the dock and work with them, but I can't access any of the files on my hard drive, cant open the hardrive because it's not on the desktop, in fact, there is nothing on the desktop. I am able to enter my second user account in which the finder is working fine but I still can't access my files because the files are in the other user account. I can't grant privliges from the frozen account because it's frozen. I ran the uninstall from the second user account but it didn't help my main account. Still the flashing dialogue box. I could still open paralells from my main user account, so I did and ran the windows version of HP uninstaller which removed a few hundered items. Still no luck. Now we have our office tech guy coming who may have the magic touch but if anyone has an answer, please do tell. Thank you!

  • HT4906 My ipad 4 is stuck.  Icloud says it cannot access my account.  It says go to settings.  I went to the settings on my lap top but I can't access the settings on ipad.  I pad gives me a choice of ignoring or going to settings.  None work. frozen.

    It tells me to review my account in settings.  I tap on settings and nothing happens.  My ipad is frozen.  I can even shut it off.  This icloud message stays on the screen and nothing works.   I've looked at my settings on my lap top and everythings is okay.  I bought the ipad in Palm Springs area.  I can't remember if he set up I cloud for me there.   Now I am in Canada.  I updated my lap top to Lion so I would get I cloud, too.  Should't the passwords be the same on both units when I access icloud.  Something is not  right.  Do I throw my ipad 4 away! It won't do anything with this icloud message on the screen.  Can't even cancel it. Can anyone help?

    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    It's a phishing attempt to get your account id and password, the 'validate' link on that page isn't an Apple website (there are similar phishing attempts regularly posted on here) - you could forward the email to Apple : [email protected]

    The first day I registered SKYPE and paid HK$100 for the points and I didn't even finish my first call, the account was frozen up and I completed all the steps according to the instruction.   Now I have to sign in with another name to leave message here.  I want someone to contact me and help to restore my account. 
    What kind of system you are having ? If such problem continue, I am not going to use it anymore and please refund my money. It is just like cheating! I paid and I was frozen and I could go nowhere to get assistance.

  • Admin account starts up but is frozen instantly. No classic solution works

    Hi all,
    I have a rather old MacBook Pro 17 inch from 2008 which has been working superbly up to a few days ago. I am running Maverick 10.9.3 (I updated straight from Snow Leopard about 6 months ago) and that worked peachy, but three days ago, suddenly my computer decided it was done working.
    The nature of the problem:
    - I log into my main account and I can move the mouse but cannot click on anything
    - Within a few seconds the mouse arrow becomes a spinning wheel and I can't do anything anymore but a hard power off
    - The majority of times my dock does not appear
              - If it appears, both documents and downloads (next to the bin on the dock) look weird, as if the folder icons are not working
              - Folders I have on my desktop also do not show up and if they show up, I cannot open them
    - I have no single device connected to my computer (no peripherals) and the problem occurs both at home and at work
    - The last software I added was about 5 months ago, the program R (open source econometrics / data handling) which ran smoothly all the time as well as windows remote desktop which allows me to access my work computer remotely, which also worked fine.
    - I have about 100GB of free space on my hard disk
    After a variety of tests and trials I know the following:
    - the problem seems limited to my admin account (which is the one I generally work on). I managed to log in with an alternative account and could even change internet settings from my other account (I am on a work network and I need admin permission on my own computer to allow other accounts on the internet)
    - I tried safe rebooting (press shift after the chime) -> no avail
    - I tried resetting NVRAM (command, control, P and R) -> no avail
    - I even tried logging into the command window (command S upon reboot) and doing the evergreen: /sbin/fcsk -fy -> no avail (although I did learn that the max resorts to US keyboard settings in that window). I got the message I am supposed to get when everything works fine and tried rebooting without success.
    I updated to 10.9.4 through my secondary account while I was writing this question. I can still log in to my secondary account, but was once again forced to hard power off my main account.
    - The only change is that my documents folder in my dock did appear normal now but as from the moment I clicked on any folder, the dreaded spinning wheel re-emerged => completely frozen again
    Any suggestions to fix the problem would be very welcome.
    Specifically
    - I have been really bad at keeping my computer backed up (because my time machine is not logged into the wifi at my home). I'd love to find out if I can run a back-up from another account. I mainly want to keep my photo's, all the rest is pretty much on dropbox
    - Any kind of diagnostics I can run from another account would be fantastic

    Boot into the Recovery Drive by holding down Command R when restarting.
    1) Run Repair Drive and Repair Permissions using Disk Utility in Recovery.
    2) See directions here to run repair permissions **on YOUR files while in Recover. (not the same as Disk Utility Repair Permissions.)
    3) Restart
    4) Download and run the combo updater to refresh your OS X files.

    Apple updates available from the Software Update application are incremental updates. Delta updates are also incremental updates and are available from Apple Downloads (software updates are generally smaller than delta updates). The Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could have become corrupted.
    Combo updaters will install on the same version as they're applying--no need to roll back or do a clean install.
    "Delta" updaters can only take you from one version to the next. For example: 10.9.3 to 10.9.4. If somehow the 10.9.3 is missing something it should have, and that something isn't changed between 10.9.3 and 10.9.4 it will still be stale after the delta update.

    Hi there, I wasn't sure where to post my question but anyway it's been this way for about a week now. my account seems frozen in some way. I'm signed in, online but when I make a call to another skype account, there is no dialling tune (the blue thing just whirls around) and eventually fails or just rings out. The same contacts for the entire week look to be online which I know there not (no change in online&offline contacts). I uninstalled and reinstalled software on iPhone & PC but no joy. I sign in and the same contacts are'online' and I can't make any calls. Any ideas how to resolve this? Your help is really appreciated as Ive moved cities & skype is great for keeping in touch

    Did you change the email address associed with yur account?  If you only changed that, your Apple ID address is not changed.  See:
