Frozen after 4.2.1 update

Did the update...ATV2 rebooted at least 2 times, but now it is stuck on a graphic that shows the iTunes logo and a micro USB cable connecting to it.
First, I don't have such a cable. And since when do I need to connect the ATV2 to a computer running iTunes?
Obviously there is a bug in the 4.2.1 update patch and now my ATV2 is a paper weight.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

OK...here's what I ended up doing.
Our local Radio Shack was still open so I went down and bought the micro USB cable. A $25 cable that Apple really should have included to begin with if this is going to be a common issue! I know I could have probably gotten one cheaper elsewhere tomorrow...
Why Apple didn't design it with the standard Apple iPod connector is a mystery as there appears to be plenty of room on the back...or even the mini headphone jack USB connector that the Shuffle uses would have been better as they definitely could have included that cable.
Anyway, connected the ATV2 to my iMac (did not need to use the power cable) and iTunes immediately recognized it and prompted for a restore/update (which took about 25 minutes to complete). This included a 268 MB update file it had to download -- which I assume was the 4.2.1 update.
I'm really nervous that this might happen again and if so, Apple should look into it since it is obviously happening with others on the first day of this update. Sounds like a 4.2.2 is in order!
I guess the only good thing is that with no internal storage on the ATV2, no data was lost. Just all the settings that I configured when I first set it up.

  • Ipod classic frozen after sync since I updated ipod software 1.02

I have an iPod Classic 80G and iTunes 7.4.2(4) installed in my Macbook Pro, had about 12G music in my iTune, everything worked fine, untill yesterday I added some more songs (about 2G), when I tried to sync, iTune asked me to update iPod Classic software 1.02, I did and after sync, my iPod frozen (only apple logo on screen). I tried all 5 Rs, and even erased the drive with Disk Utility, after restore, I can copy songs from iTunes while using it as a disk, the ipod works fine, but the iPod crashs everytime finished sync. This morning I tried to sync with my girlfriend's Mac mini (she has about 8G music in her iTunes), it works no problem at all. So I am thinking the problem is with my iTunes - any help please?
p.s My last attemp was deleting the ipoddriver.kext from extensions libary, still didn't work.

The iPod classic not bring recognized is unrelated to iTunes Match. You should post this problem to either the iPod Classic forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/ipod/ipod_classic or the iTunes for Windows forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes/itunes_for_windows. Probably the former.
FYI it is only iOS devices that cannot be synced via USB with iTunes Match enabled.

Update: After restoring the iPod synced almost 1/3 through my playlist and then started syncing at a rate of about one song every four to five minutes. Eventually it stopped syncing and froze. Now iTunes is completely frozen.

  • Ipad mini frozen after ios 8.3 update

I tried to update my iPad to iOS 8.3 today and the first time it was updating on the actual settings so I could still use my iPad but then I lost internet connection and I tried to update it today and it went black with the apple logo and a bar measuring the progress of the update. Anywyas,I'm not sure if it was about to complete or had completed but it went black with the Apple logo in the middle. I held down the home and on/off button at the same time and after a few seconds the screen goes black then the screen with the apple logo comes on then it goes black again. I then tried to turn it on by pressing the on/off button but it goes and stays on the screen with the apple logo so we're back to square one. I've tried holding them down a few times now but I keep getting the same result. Any help? The iPad first went into the logo about 6 hours ago. I thought it would take time for the device to process but seeing no result I tried the pressing both buttons method andnow iI'm asking if any one knows what I have to do? Thanks

You can preform a DFU restore.
    Follow my steps:
    - power down your iPad
    - Hold down the home button and don't let go
    - Plug the iPad to your computer
    - Do not let go the home button
    - ITunes will prompt you that the iPad is recovery stage
    - Restore your iPad
You should be all set and updated issue free.
    Cheers!

  • ITouch frozen after trying to download updates..help!

I downloaded the updates to my iTunes yesterday and then tried to sync my iPod. my iPod completely froze. I figured the battery would run out and it would fix what evers wrong with it, but it's be 18 hours and it's still forzen on the same screen. I've also tried a hard reset and it does nothing. This iPod is only 3 months old. I have a picture of the screen, but don't think I can load it here.

There is no "iTunes 12" and you don't download iTunes to your iPad anyway. Can you please explain your situation in more detail?
As a quick suggestion, have you tried resetting your iPad by holding down the Home and Sleep buttons until you see the Apple icon?

Also, upon connecting to iTunes, it doesn even recognize the phone, nor charge it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Have you tried a hard reset yet to see if that makes a difference?  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  This may take a couple of tries.

  • After 10.9.4 Update: Mail Messages Grey Out Upon Deleting-Don't Move to Trash?

    Hello,
After 10.9.4 Update/MacBook Pro with Retina display: Mail Messages Grey Out Upon Deleting-Don't Move to Trash? I believe I must join those who are having trouble with mail after this latest update. Deleted messages just turn a light grey in the message panel and don't move to trash until after I quit and restart mail. I have also experienced the screen "Freezing" ... no spinning beach ball, just the pointer frozen. This has happened only when I use mail and requires a "hard" re-start to correct.  Is this a "feature" of the update, or is it a problem? Thanks!

Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock those files and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Back up all data.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -N {} + -type d -exec chmod +x {} + 2>&-
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
Quit Mail and empty the Trash. If you still can't, log out or restart the computer.

  • After I downloaded the update of iOS 8.1.3,I was unable to install it and I see "an error occurred installing iOS 8.1.3"what can I do?

After I downloaded the update of iOS 8.1.3,I was unable to install it and I see "an error occurred installing iOS 8.1.3"what can I do?

    Hi Josephineapo,
If you are trying to update your iPhone over-the-air rather than through iTunes, and you are having issues with installing it, then I'd like you to please follow the steps outlined below.
If you get a message that "an error occurred downloading iOS," try again later. If the issue persists, try updating your device in another network or use iTunes to update your device. Learn more about iOS updates.
    Update does not complete
If you're installing the update and the progress bar appears to move slowly, be patient. The time an update takes depends on the size of the update and the number of files on the device.
When you're updating over the air, keep your device connected to a power source so that it doesn't run out of power. If your device does run out of power, connect it to a power source and turn on the device to let the update or restore complete.
If the update never completes and the progress bar hasn't moved for an extended time, try restarting your device. If you still see the issue after you restart, see what to do if your device appears frozen or won't start.

  • Help... Mac cant sleep after 10.4.3 update...

When I put my rev. B Imac to sleep, it will wake up again by itself after 3-5 minutes and the fans will be running at full blast. I try to navigate around, but everything is frozen. The only way to get out of this is to manually power down the mac. I ran console and this is what it says...
    Nov 6 14:22:59 Erics-iMac-G5 configd[29]: AppleTalk shutdown failed, status = 71 (retrying)
    Nov 6 14:23:00 Erics-iMac-G5 configd[29]: AppleTalk shutdown failed, status = 71
Please help... this is very annoying.
    Thank you.

A number of sleep-related issues can appear after incremental Mac OSX updates, including the inability to properly go to sleep, problems waking from sleep, and having your display go to sleep without your Mac going to sleep. The most common culprit is Bluetooth. Try these tips to fix your sleep problems.
    WAKE UP
In System Preferences>Bluetooth, uncheck Allow Bluetooth Devices To Wake This Computer. If you are using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, you'll have to wake your Mac by pressing the power button.
    FILE CORRUPTION
Your Bluetooth preference file may be corrupt-you'll need to delete it. Turn Bluetooth off, then go to the /Users/user name/Library/Preferences folder. Look for a file called com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and trash it.The OS will create a new preference file when you enable Bluetooth again.
    ENERGY SAVER
If you have issues with a Mac or display that goes to sleep at inappropriate times, you may have a problem with Energy Saver. Delete the following .plist files and restart:
    -/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
-/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist--(username is your name or System Administrators name).
    -/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
A restart is very important after deleting these plists. After a reboot your Mac will then generate new ones.
In some cases, running MacOS X's cron tasks-maintenance that the OS performs automatically if you leave your Mac on 24 hours a day-can resolve many sleep problems. If you don't want to leave your Mac on, you can use MacJanitor, Yasu, or OnyX free at Versiontracker.com.
If that does'nt do it, post back
    Cheers!
