Frozen and lost photo's!?!?

i just imported 200 so photo's into iPhoto but after the import i was rotating some and the program crashed, when i re-opened it the photo's i just imported were not there.
As usual i had selected the option to delete the photo's from my camera after import so now i don't seem to have the photo's anywhere
PLEASE tell me i still have these Photo's somewhere, and there not gone.

macmanman:
Open the iPhoto library like this and check inside the Originals folder to see if there's a folder titled Import. Check it to see if your photos are there. If there is no Import folder check in the Originals folder for the more recent subfolders. Those should contain your last import attempt.
If you do not find your photos you can use MediaRECOVER to recover the deleted photos from the memory card. You can run MediaRECOVER in the demo mode to verify it can see and recover the photos before having to pay for it.
Now that the horse is out of the barn let me soapbox a little on workflow. One should never have iPhoto set up to automatically delete the photos after import for the very reason you're posting. I find it much safer to upload from the camera to a folder on the desktop. I name and date the folder and then import it into iPhoto creating an Event with the same name as the folder. A couple of more steps but much safer in the long run. Actually I use a card reader to take the wear and tear off my camera and its battery.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Relocated original files to desktop (on low disk space) and lost photos?

Help! My wife and I exchanged our vows on the Napali Coast and we lost our photos...
    2006 Macbook, iphoto06:
As I was importing our 200 photos from the hike, my computer warned me that I was running out of disk space and stopped before finishing the load. I regretfully opted to delete the photos from the camera as it imported (bummer). The photos were safe in my iphoto library when I returned the following day and cleared some disk space on my hard drive. I then imported the remaining photos and everything looked normal.
Here's where it gets weird. So I was looking at a photo and accidently deleted it from the iphoto library. I located the original file and reimported it, however the computer told me that I already had the photo in the library. I looked into help and followed the instructions to drag the rolls onto my desktop and reimport them into iphoto. I did this and consequently lost some 50 very special photos. Now the iphoto library had this giant gap filled with grey !!!'s where the photos were. I looked into the original rolls folders and found a number of the original files were now missing? Something obviously happened from me having moved the files from the originals folder to the desktop. When I returned to iphoto, I recieved a warning that I was running out of diskspace again and some of the recent changes may have been lost!
I have searched for the files according to their file numbers (from the missing thumbnail) and the files are not coming up on my search. The original files are not in the trash either?
    My questions:
    1. Is there any way to trace the history of my actions and undo my actions or salvage my files?
    2. The images still appear in my iphoto library thumbnails when scrolling down the screen (briefly before turning to grey !'s). Can I somehow salvage the image from the thumbnails?
    3. Do I have to find the original files to see the photos again?
I have learned to not mess with orignial files in iphoto, never delete when importng, and always have mucho diskspace when uploading.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Will and Julia in Kauai

As I was importing our 200 photos from the hike, my computer warned me that I was running out of disk space and stopped before finishing the load.
You should always have a minimum of 10 GB of free space on your boot hard drive for safe and proper operation of your computer. you must get at least that much free space to go forward
I regretfully opted to delete the photos from the camera as it imported (bummer).
It is recommended that you never have iPhoto delete your photos - wait until they are imported and tested (I wait for a backup cycle or two myself) and then use the camera to format the memory card - this will save you from many problems and reformats you card with every use which eliminates other issues

How did you do this? using iPhoto or using the finder?

Again until you have a minimum of 10BG of free space you are risking many additional problems with your total system including iPhoto

    My questions:
    1. Is there any way to trace the history of my actions and undo my actions or salvage my files?
No - but you may be able to recover the photos on your camera card using program like media recover - http://www.mediarecover.com/ - the trial version will tell you what is available for recovery
    2. The images still appear in my iphoto library thumbnails when scrolling down the screen (briefly before turning to grey !'s). Can I somehow salvage the image from the thumbnails?
    no
    3. Do I have to find the original files to see the photos again?
Yes - either on your computer or on your camera media card
I have learned to not mess with orignial files in iphoto,
Yes - that is critical - doing so is likely to lose data and possibly photos
    never delete when importng,
    That is strongly recommended
and always have mucho diskspace when uploading.
    Yes - 10GB minimum

  • Synced photos from pc to iphone and lost photos in iphone library

Hello to everyone. I need your help cause I recently lost more than 600 photos that I had on my iphone5. I bought iphone5s so I wanted to backup my files and photos. I connected to itunes and, by mistake, I synced photos fromy my pc to iphone and 645 photos I had on the LIBRARY (from previous device iphone 4) syddenly disappeared. I restored backup that I have done before syncing, but my photos were not back at the library. All photos from the Camera Roll were back, but not at the Library. Does anybody know if there is a way to get them back? They are very important photos to me and I would appreciate it very very much if someone could help me.
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but unless those photos are on your computer, or part of your computer backup, they are gone. Photos synced to your phone are not included in any iPhone backup, so restoring from backup will not restore them.

  • Sync'd and lost photo albums - help!

I sync'd my iPad Air with my PC before leaving home and added several Albums to my Photos.  I do not have the photos in these albums on my Laptop.  I took some photos on my camera, created a folder on my laptop and copied these new pics into it.  I then sync'd my iPad using my laptop and iTunes with the intent of copying the new folder of pics to the iPad (I selected just that folder in the iTunes sync for Photos).  The sync did copy this folder to my iPad as a new album, but it also deleted all of the albums I put on the iPad from my home PC.  How can I get them back?  I do not have an iCloud backup....

That is the danger of syncing with two different computers given the way that iTunes syncs photos.
When you sync with photo folders specified in iTunes it places just those folders on the iPad and deletes any other synced folders. You must always specify all the folders in iTunes, even the ones that are already there.
You can restore the lost folders from your PC when you return home. Note that you will lose the folder from your laptop when you do this if you don't copy that folder from your laptop to your PC first.

  • Help! new to Mac and lost photos

Hello, all: I have done a lot of research of this forum (quite impressive, BTW) but I'm not sure how to proceed.
Recently got ext. HD and cloned my whole system. Checked several apps and all worked well. I then was trying to backup iPhoto to DVD and somehow screwed up my Library. Applied several of the techniques mentioned by Old Toad, Lori, et al, and recovered most of my photos. Good. My most recent roll still remains missing so I look to my ext HD to find my old Library to copy it back to my Pictures folder - but all I find in the Ext HD iPhoto Lib is the new, rebuilt Library (still missing my last roll). What am I not doing right?
    Thanks in advance. GW

  • How to get back "DCIM" folder and lost photos?

Do you know something about “DCIM” folder? Yesterday, I just accidentally deleted this folder and found all my phone photos disappeared. Can I get back this folder, especially the inner phone photos? Do you have any idea? I need your help!

In your case, immediately stop using this phone memory card in case of further data loss and then, try to use take chances with some data recovery programs.
I have ever had some data recovery success with the guidance of this video tutorial.
Of course, also learn a lesson to make data backups all the time.
I hope these words work for you.

  • Updated to ios 6 and lost photos

i uptaded my ipod to ios 6 and i lost my pictures i dont have them backed up to icloud and i dont have a mac! what do i do!?

Not sure what having a mac has to do with anything.
You should be importing pics taken with your ipod to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera, most especially before attempting any update or restore.
If you have failed to do this, then they are likely gone.  You can try restoring from backup.

  • Just upgraded iPhone 4 to 7.0.3 and lost photos

I just upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 7.0.3.  I thought I had backed it up to my Win8 PC, but now have only 42 (of about 900) photos.  How do I get them back?

If you failed to import your pics, then they are very likely gone.
You can try restoring from backup
The Camera roll on your iphone is temporary storage for pics.  You should be importing them regularly as you would with any digital camera.
Nothing should only be on the iphone.
Everything should live on your computer and should be backed up.  The iphone simply allows your computers content to be portable.
"tell you to do womething to protect it."
You need soemone to tell you to protect your data?  This has been very basic from the very first computer.  Nothing new here.

  • I was editing photos and it was getting stuck or frozen and working really slow, so I attempting to close aperture and reopen it but it won't quit aperture and now it won't open up to my photos either.  Any ideas?

I was editing photos and it was getting stuck or frozen and working very slowly.  I attempted to restart the computer but it would not allow me to quit aperture.  Now aperture appears in my toolbar but will not open up so I can work on any photos.  Any ideas?

Did you try opening from the Applications folder?
Depending on how far that gets you, I would also take a look at the Troubleshooting Basics.

  • On my mac i accidentally deleted all my documents and now i cant play my songs from itunes but can on my phone and my photos are there but when i open them they are not but i can see some on my iphone but not all. How do i get these back or are they lost?

Can i get this stuff back or it lost forever.....

At the AT&T store. Tried using iCloud but only 120 songs were transferred and when I access my iTunes account now it only shows 120 and not the 450 anymore that I purchased on my old phone. Tried to sync again from the phone to iTunes and it still not working.
I purchased everything under the same apple ID account I called apple support and spent almost 2 hours with tech support for assistance and we got disconected and they never called me back.
I'm at the point where I'm about to never purchase anything anymore from apple go to another company retrieve every single charge made on my bank account from iTunes and file a law suit against the company. It's being a week that I called for assistance and no one called me back to help me with this matter even after I responded a survey with a complaint about not getting a resolution to my problem.
If you could please help me I will appreciate, I'm out of the country now and can't stay on the phone for a long time.
I need to sell my old phone but as right now besides all my bank statements the old phone is the only evidence that I purchased the songs.

Looks like you restored your backup file to her phone. If you didn't back up your wife's phone first, then the data is gone, sorry.

  • Upgraded to Photo on MacBook Pro and lost all of the EVENTS I had in prior version

Upgraded to Photo on MacBook and Lost all the Events in my prior iPhoto library   How do I get them back?

Upgraded to Photo on MacBook and Lost all the Events in my prior iPhoto library   How do I get them back?
There are no events at all in Photos.  The Library is no longer partitioned into events, it is split into Moments, and the Moments are created automatically based  on the date and the location, if a locations available. You have no control at all over the partitioning of the library - Photos is doing that for you.
The folder "iPhoto Events" does not contain events, it has new albums. For each of the previous events an album has been created. But these are really albums and will  not behave like events at all. And if you import new photos, they will show in the "Last Import" album, but no album will be created for this new import.
Any structuring you want to do in your library will have to be based on albums or smart albums. Use keywords to tag your photos, so you can create smart albums.
