  • Frozen Apple Logo and Kernel Panic

Over the weekend I went to sleep and when I woke up I noticed that the power in the apartment had gone out. I turned on my iMac G5 running 10.4.6 and was greeted by the grey Apple logo and spinning wheel. I shut down unplugged everything, and turned my machine back on to the same results. Afterwards I tried repairing the disk from my OSX dvd. Tried a few times, but kept getting the same two errors that it didn’t seem to repair. Tried to boot up again and this time I was greeted by a blinking earth and then blinking question mark and then the machine showed a kernel panic screen. I tried running disk warrior and the program seems to run ok and only list one set of things that it could not repair, but when I check the preview my Users folder and other folders are missing. I see applications, documents, and a few others, but the total GB in all of these folders in the preview is only about 50-60 GB. However disk warrior correctly shows that the total HD space is 233GB, with 44 remaining, which is roughly the amount, give or take a few GB I had remaining before I went to sleep. I called Alsoft and they had me try to rebuilt from my older iMac running 10.4.2 in target mode, and as a root user, but both times I got the same results. Do you know what else I can do to recover my data or repair my HD. I’ve pretty much conceded to the fact that I just want to get all my working data on my external HD then erase and reinstall OSX and drag my data back. What else can I do? Any suggestions?

    1. If necessary, go dig up your original system disks that came with the iMac G5.
    2. Check the labels. One should explain how to start up from that disk to use the hardware test it contains.
    3. There is also a 'read me' file on that disk explaining exactly how to use it.
    4. The same info is in the paper User's Guide manual that came with your iMac -- page 58 if we have the same model, as I think we do. If not, check the contents under "Troubleshooting."
    5. If none of these guides are accessible, try the appropriate online manual for your model, available through the "Manuals" link at the top of this page.
If the new iMac's HD does not show up in the old Mac's Finder even with a "pass" from AHT & the repair attempts you have made with Disk Warrior, I know of no other way to access the data other than with Data Rescue or a similar tool, or with a data recovery service, which is generally quite expensive.

  • Flashing apple logo and beeping noise

i just closed my macbook and then all the sudden the apple logo on the front cover started to flash and then that beeping noise (like when you flip it open) comes on and it just repeats over and over again. when i opened it back up, it was already on my desktop but then when the beeping noise came on again, the screen went black so i closed it and opened it back up. it's working fine right now (at least it is for now) but what was going on?

Beeping noises can be RAM-related. Try reseating your RAM.

  • 80g video ipod only shows apple logo and makes loud clicking noises

I've had my ipod 80g for a little over two years, with few incidents, and it's about 50 g full. When I most recently connected it to my computer, it started making these loud whirring and clicking noises and the apple logo is all that shows. I know the ipods can't be expected to last more than a few years (or so I'm told) so my question is what to do. Should I take it into the apple store and have the hard drive totally wiped of all my music, should I try some alternative fix (this strange business card opening the ipod technique, for instance?), or is there something else I should try? Is an ipod in this stage even salvagable? Thanks!

i have the EXACT same problem. Whenever i add new files and try to play them the clicking noise is LOUD and it does not stop for a good 10 seconds nad my IPOD begins to shake...
i would like to know the answer as well

  • After updating to iOS 5.0.1 my iphone 4 is frozen on the screen with the apple logo and a progress bar under it. What should i do?

After updating to iOS 5.0.1 my iphone 4 is frozen on the screen with the apple logo and the progress bar under it. Held the power and home button, the phone shut off, and restarted the progress. If i try to turn the phone on, it keeps telling me to connect to iTunes. Once I do, it asks me to restore, i click restore, but it keeps on freezing at the screen. What is the problem? Error 1603 comes up. Followed the link to apple's page but nothing that was said there worked.

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with networks that require any kind of authentication other than a WPA or WPA2 Personal password.
When the Mac OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
Don't install the Thunderbolt update -- it's defective.

We can't help you if you don't even know what you are installing.  Never install anything if you do not know what it is.  Installings through Software Update always have explanations which you should be reading to see if you actually need and/or want them.
That being said, it appears you attempted to upgrade to Mavarick.  Although I am not positive.
Sorry, I am going to back out of this because I nor you know what it was you installed.  Hopefully, someone else will chime in here.
    GOOD LUCK!

Unknown "source"?  Do you mean unknown "error" followed by a number?

Follow the instructions in the article.  When you connect your phone again, you may have to press both the home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo reappears, then continue pressing the home button until iTunes detects the phone in recovery mode.

It's not uncommon for it to not work the first time and sometimes, you have to try it a few times. Turn off your antivirus software and your firewall while you are trying to restore the iPad. Enable them again after you restore.
If that still won't work, post back with detailed information as to what exactly does happen as you go through the process.

  • What do I do if my IPad wont turn on completely and what I mean by that I see the Apple logo and I think that it is turning on and then after a while i see the loading symbol which means that it isn't frozen and then all of a sudden it shows the apple log

What do I do if my IPad wont turn on completely and what I mean by that I see the Apple logo and I think that it is turning on and then
after a while i see the loading symbol which means that it isn't frozen and then all of a sudden it shows the apple logo once more and it repeats the above

    Try this first.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't work, try restoring the iOS software.
iTunes: Restoring iOS software - Support - Apple
If that doesn't work, try this.
