Frozen appple on LCD and not recognized by windows (Device Malfunction)
All songs totally erased from my Ipod a few weeks back. When I tried to syncronize my computer now says that the device is malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it. Now the Ipod has a frozen apple on the LCD that I cannot turn off or anything.
The usual things to try here would be to reset the iPod and restore the iPod.

2 problems, iPod nano battery depleted and not recognized by Windows, help!
Earlier this morning. At first when I connected the usb to the computer I got the screen in the nano that said "apple.com/ipod/support" or something like that, with the folder/exclamation mark icon. It was charging but I disconnected it cause I had to go. I tried to do the same at night but this time is when it's totally dead, and not recognized at all. What can I do now?
I havent used the nano in a while and the battery is depleted, so I tried to charge it but neither windows or itunes or the updater/restore recognize it.
I'm on a laptop, I already tried most of the stuff in the faqs but it wont work.i kind of have the same porblem, my klaptop does regcognize the ipod on "my computer" but the iPod dosen't shows up in iTunes, and i have tried almost everything in the faq that show how to fix the problem, but it still dosen't work....

10.7 on a windows workgroup not recognized by windows devices
I have an HP Digital Sender that used to work on my network just fine. It sends to the shared user folder (in a sub folder) and it was working great under 10.6 sending to
\\CANAVERAL\Shared\DigitalSenderDropbox\
The machine name is set properly in WINS and the device is on thet network and I can load up its web interface still (all machines on a 10.0.0.x network). However, the old device is not able to see the dropbox anymore.
Any ideas?The path shows that you were using the SMB protocol to connect to the Mac. The SMB protocol has changed in Lion and many devices with send capabilities are no longer able to connect to the Lion Mac via SMB. Based on your current issue I would guess that this HP has the same problem and it would require an update to make it compatible with Lion. Or, if you are able to use an alternate protocol, such as FTP, then maybe you can configure the HP to use FTP rather than SMB.

IPOD Not Recognized By Windows XP - The Solution!!!

I came across the solution to this problem over on the Microsoft website and it instantly cured my problems. Here are the steps:
The solution is to make sure you stop the usb device prior to unplug. not just ejecting from itunes but stopping the usb itself.
How to fix
- Turn off computer.
- Plug ipod into usb
- Then you must reset your ipod... don't worry it won't wipe anything out.To reset move the hold button ( on top of the ipod) once to hold then back to original position. Then press and hold the center button and the top menu button at the same time for 6 seconds.
- Start computer and it should install the usb driver for the ipod automatically.
- Your ipod will say do not unplug so don't.
- Then open itunes and it will be there and you are good to go.
Just remeber to not only eject ipod from itunes but stop usb.
Go to the program icons near the clock and right click the usb icon and "safely remove hardware" will appear and click it. stop it and select " apple ipod"

1. Disconnect iPOD, toggle the hold button on/off and manually reset the device.
2. Delete "Unknown Device" in Device Manager.
3. Uninstall iPOD and iTunes software.
4. Reboot computer
5. Install iPOD and iTUNES software
6. Open iTUNES
7. Run iPOD software - connect the iPOD when instructed to do so.
Windows finds unknown USB device - installs the driver and announces successful installation and hardware ready for use. :-)))
5-6 seconds later Windows announces USB device not recognized, that a device malfunction has occurred and am advised and Windows is unable to recognize it. :-(((
To Note: a. Assigning usbstore.inf as the driver for the the iPOD doesn't "take". The assignment ends without error message but going back and checking indicates no driver assigned to the device.
b. USB mouse, keyboard and flash drive all work and are recognized by the system. I have not been using the flash drive with the ipod to avoid complications.
c. I managed (once) to connect it with the iPOD software, have it recognized in iTunes and transferred music to the device. Unable to reconnect ever since. -

yesterday, when i went to sync some new music onto my 1gen nano, it did not work (duh). i plugged it in 3 times:
-1st, it displayed the "do not connect screen" for one second, and itunes flashed the screen it shows when your ipod is connected, but then the ipod disconnected itself after that one second.
-2nd, windows gave me a message saying the hardware could not be recognized.
-3rd, nothing at all happened, as has been happening each time i try to plug it in since then.
i've done the 5 R's .. and i've tried all the suggestions shown on posts that sound like mine, including these: Windows XP cannot detect an iPod.

I have been having nearly the same problem as Crashcup for the past month. Differences being I am operating with Windows Vista and my iPod is a 160GB Classic. I have gone through all the steps in the troubleshooting documents to no result. I attach my iPod and it is not recognized by Windows, iTunes or even in Device Manager. Not even as an "Unknown Device".
I know there is nothing wrong with the USB ports as two different external hard drives and a video game controller work perfectly fine through them. Same goes with the iPod itself; it continues to play and function normally, and is recognized by a charging device completely separate from my laptop. Just when attached to the computer there is no sign of it.
I am very frustrated that there is no further instruction with regard to what to do with an iPod Classic (as referred to by Crashcup: "...it says to take a photo with an iPhone, or a screenshot with an iPod touch or iPad. WHAT ABOUT THE IPOD CLASSIC????)

iPad 3rd gen no longer charges unless shut off and not recognized by iTunes. Done 2 resets, used original charger and cable and bought brand new charger and cable from Apple store. Nothing works. This started yapping after the iOS 7.1.1 update.
Common troubleshooting is to try a different USB port and to give your ipad a reset. (hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot)
You can also try on a different computer to see if it's the ipad or the computer.
When you charge, do you try to charge plugged into the wall? that's the best way to charge.
If you go through all that and it's still not working hten it may be time to make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out -
My iPod and iPhone are not recognized in Windows 7 iTunes. I've reinstalled iTunes and restarted windows. Now iPod briefly displays, then device manager mass storage shows a yellow exclamation point. iPhone doesn't display in iTunes at all. Please advise

USB 3.0 - WD Passport 1 GB not recognized by Windows 8 and 8.1
My USB 3.0 - WD Passport 1 GB not recognized by Windows 8 and 8.1. There is no sound when I plug it on pc or some error message. But other USB devices works well. Maybe there is not suitable drivers for this device? Please Help me!

I understand that when you connect your passport drive it does not auto install. Does the power light on the passport drive come on? What is the error message you receive?
Have you checked for any Windows updates?
You can run The HP Support Assistant to help with resolving issues and looking for updates.
If you believe it is a driver issue, you can download the software and drivers from the WD website. Here is the link WD download for passport drives. If you connect it to a different computer, does it install? They also have a diagnostic tool for testing the drives. If this has not alleviated the issue, would you please provide your exact model of computer and the operating system you are running. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Would you also provide the exact error you get when connecting the passport.

great, but my MBA did not come with an installion disc, only a tiny jump drive that is not recognized by windows; and I can't get the contents of that burned to a DVD either. So how the heck do I get the drivers into Windows 7? My MBA has bootcamp 3.0.4.

IPod stuck in "do not disconnect" and NOT recognized by iTunes
I updated to 7.1.1.... and my iPod is not stuck in "do Not disconnect" and not recognized by iTunes.
I have tried the Toshiba "Safely Remove Hardware" -- and selecting the iPOD -- but, notice comes back "cannot disconnect now because a program is accessing the device."
Anyone know where I can go from here??? Thanks very much.the same thing happened to me yesterday after downloading the new itunes 7.1.1 the do not dissconnect would'nt go off and computer and itunes would'nt reconize my ipod video.
so i left it alone overnight to empty battery completely.
the do not disconnect was gone in the morning then i recharged it and plugged it back in to computer and everything is fine. i don't know why it froze on me.
my husbands ipod mini had a similar problem awhile back and i did the same and it also was fine. -

Keep in mind, the new iTunes is in a different format. To revert to a more familiar format:

Tried all of the recommended resets and combinations mentioned, but the ipod is still not recognized. Genius at apple said it may be a hardware error, "The button is broke" but all of the buttons and cords work and i proved it to him.
