Frozen at the "Graphics Firmware Update 1.0" dialog

I installed the Nov 15 graphics update on my iMac 24", but when I clicked the "update" button on the "Graphics Firmware Update 1.0" dialog, it just froze.
The dialog has not showm any progress since I clicked the "update button". It has just been sitting there for about 30 minutes. I can move the mouse, but nothing I click on responds.
The bad thing is that this dialog box warns you not to touch anything or else the computer will not boot.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Well, I gave up and rebooted. It did reboot, and when I logged in, I got a dialog box saying the graphics was updated to version 1.0.
However, when I rebooted using bootcamp, Windows still shows the ATI Mobility HD 2600XT driver as being version 8.390.0.0 6/14/2007. That's what it was before installing the update.
I thought updating the Leopard would update the bootcamp partition as well. Is this supposed to be done separately? Or maybe when the updated froze, it didn't update the Windows side. In which case I would have to uninstall/reinstall the update.
I am guessing here. I have no idea what to do. Does anyone know the answer?

  • IMac freezes with Halo UB game - after graphics firmware update

    Hi
The graphics firmware update works good - the couple of things I found to freeze it work fine now.
But I have found one way to get the freeze and black screen plus the ASIC error in the system.log.
Open Halo UB 2.0.2 and set the video options to use 1920x1200. When I have it at 1344x840 or whatever, the game is fine.
But when I try to set Halo UB to 1920x1200, I get the freeze thing. Halo says it has to test the new video settings and says to hit escape if no dialog appears. Once I accept that, then the screen goes black and the freeze hits.
So I'm happy that everything's working good for all the other normal causes of the freeze. Hopefully Apple can now track down this issue.
Anyone else out there have Halo UB to try this out?
Maybe it's my Halo UB install. Mine was a fresh install this morning though.
    good luck!
    let me know...
    thanks!

Freezes with Jedi Academy as well, freezes after iMac update, 10.5.1 install, Firmware Update (which i had to do with Pacifist)...
just Freezes and everything needs to be restarted, haven't tried the HALO thing yet, not sure if i want to push my luck...

  • TS3824 How can we install the iMac Graphics Firmware Update if the screen is white and I can't get to the Apple menu?

How can I install the iMac Graphics Firmware Update 2.0, if the screen is white and I can't get to the Apple menu?  My computer has 5 vertical purple lines against white screen at startup before the Apple logo appears and the spinning gear...then everything disappears and the screen hangs on the white screen.  I have tried unplugging and removing all my peripherals and the COMMAND, OPTION, P & R set of keys and still nothing.  I have tried COMMAND C to start up from cd and it only tells me to turn off the computer and turn it back on.  I found information on Apple's Support pages regarding the iMac Graphics Firmware Update but I am unable to download and install if I can't get to the Apple menu.  Can anyone help?

You may have hardware problem, I think a visit to your local Apple Store or AASP is in order.

  • Question about imac graphics firmware updates

My Imac model identifier is imac8,1; the machine is a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.  I am running OS 10.6.7.  I have an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics card.
Firmware Update 1.0.1 is apparently installed, since my graphics ROM version is 113-82250L-259.
Symptoms occurring within last 6 months or so:  Without notice, the screen goes black, though I can detect light “behind” (i.e., it doesn’t look powered off). The only remedy I’ve been able to get to work is to use the power button (or unplug) to turn the machine off. I don’t know whether the system has frozen or not.  I’ve looked at the console and system log, but I can’t tell from them what’s happening.
I have reset the SMC and PRAM.  The computer passes the extended Apple Hardware Test.
My question: is one or both of the imac graphics firmware updates 1.0.2 (September 10, 2009) or 2.0 (June8, 2011) appropriate for my machine?

If there is an update to your particular graphics firmware, Software Update will let you know; if there is nothing showing there, it means there is no update available for your configuration. Do not simply download from the Apple website and install something that could cause havoc on your machine.
I'm not sure what the problem might be, but it could be graphics card and/or logic board related. Since you've already done the SMC and PRAM resets, unless someone else has another idea, I'd suggest booking an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar for a free evaluation and diagnosis. If the problem is intermittent, take screen shots or video of it so you can show it to them.

  • How to install Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 in Lion?

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a 27" iMac with a NVidia 7600GT graphics card.  Knowledgebase article HT3986 says that Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 must be installed first. I downloaded the firmware update  but on running it says the Mac OS X 10.6 is required  but I've already upgraded to Lion.
I was able to install Windows 7 but I have to disable the graphics card for it to boot and use it in VGA mode.
How can I install the firmware update?

I used BC 4.0. I don't remember installing the firmware update and thought it likely that I would skip it as I didn't intend to install Windows.
    Here's the system profile information:
    NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT:
Chipset Model:          NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
      Type:          GPU
      Bus:          PCIe
      PCIe Lane Width:          x16
      VRAM (Total):          256 MB
      Vendor:          NVIDIA (0x10de)
      Device ID:          0x0391
      Revision ID:          0x00a1
      ROM Revision:          3022
I can't find info on what to look for on this iMac to know if it's been updated.

  • Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 for Mac Pro 2006?

The official documentation is confusing because Apple lists the 2006 Mac Pro as "incompatible" with Windows 7 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3986 but at the bottom of the same page it states that the update is for the "Mac Pro with NVIDIA Geforce 7300 GT" which is the original card that the 2006 Mac Pro came with. The page makes no reference to the specific model other than that.
Also, the compatibility page for the update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3967 lists graphics "Device ID 0x0393, or 0x009D" as the applicable units, one of which, ID 0x0393, matches the 7300 GT in my 2006 Mac Pro.
Again, no reference to specific Mac Pro generation is made on any page, including the driver download page
    here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/graphicsfirmwareup date10imacandmacprocompatibilitywithwindows7.html
    only the points I outlined.
Is this an error on the part of Apple or is it for the 2006 Mac Pro?

Marketing seems to write the technical hardware articles lately!
Even though not supported officially, and while Windows 7 Pro 32-bit will only allow 2GB RAM, it does boot and install. 64-bit you have to jump through extra hoops is all.
UEFI made it easier to have a BIOS and/or EFI subset, but UEFI came out 1/2006 and Apple probably settled on EFI32. It wasn't until 2008 that UEFI 2.1 showed in Mac Pro and which marks the "official support" point in time and hardware reference.
I was surprised - dumbfounded - to see the 7300GT firmware update too. And I had to remove mine when installing Windows Vista x64 in the past, and for the RC last year.

  • Screen no longer works after Graphics Firmware Update

I received my new IMAC 20 inch a couple of days ago. Worked like a charm. perfect.
I received a request (software update) to update the Graphics firmware for the ATI 2600 processor.
I performed the update, but I can no longer use the IMAC. The screen just stays black, no longer displays any information. I hear the hard disk working thru the startup process, but the screen just stays OFF.
I zapped the PRAM, and restarted many times. No success.
Please help. It worked so fine before this major trouble.
    Patrick

The iMac Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 states:
This update is for 20-inch and 24-inch aluminum iMac computers with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics processor, running Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later with iMac Software Update 1.2.1 for Tiger, or Mac OS X 10.5 with iMac Software Update 1.3 for Leopard.
Perhaps you meant OS 10.5.1. The above update also states:
Note: If you are running Mac OS X 10.5.1, iMac Software Update 1.3 is included.

Did the keyboard firmware update today and now no bluetooth. Using spotlight to search for bluetooth, I get this message:

The bluetooth keyboard was working fine before the firmware update was installed.

After the 40S51U Firmware Update 2.2.5 wireless passwords must be re-entered every time the device is powered on. It's been almost 4 months since the untested patch was released – is a fix coming?

  • The NEXT firmware update? 1.2.1

and yeah anyone know how to Empty trash in Mail? or you are just suppose to delete it twice? I did the option clear mail after one day but it never delete anything after like a week.. and yeah i guess that's a bug too.
so when's the Next fireware update?
1.2.1? 1.1.2? how does the number work?

    and.. i use Gmail.
just saying they should add a empty trash option, or at least make the "Delete after 1 day" work.
It does work. Deletion takes place based on 24 hours after the initial deletion was initiated by the user.
    Go to:
    Settings > Mail > (mail account name) > Advanced > Remove >
    select either
    (Never/After one day/After one week/After one month
Your mail will be deleted automatically based on the selection. No more having to delete an email twice.
    Good Luck!

  • I've tried running the new graphics firmware update (8/24/11), but it says the software is not supported on my Mac...

Is anyone else having this issue? I would very much like to download the update because it address the issues I have been having with my iMac.

Don't shoot the messenger . From what I've seen on various forums you're not alone, so hopefully it will be addressed, hopefully sooner rather than later.
When I got my iMac at the end of 2009 I was affected by the dreaded flickering screen issue - took two firmware updates before it was finally sorted for the majority.

  • Graphics Firmware Update 1.0

Had problems with freezing, and looked forward to this update, which doesn't seem to have solved the problem BUT everytime I run software update it says I need it again and installs it again. Am I missing something?

    Hello,
For me, the firmware update merely stopped the freezes and increased the artifacts. These graphic artifacts appear EVERYWHERE. And for games, it keeps appearing even if I don't move or do anything. Examples: Dashboard dashing, scrolling in Safari, opening menus, rolling over the dock (even though i hv magnification turned OFF, stacks, opening apps and most of all, Expos(eh). Basically everything causes some kind of artifact. I have reinstalled Leopard. No help. Reset the PRAM. No help. Repaired permissions. No help. Checked disk. No need to repair. Micromat TechTool says everything perfectly okay. I have AppleCare but here in Hong Kong, they only have phone assistance from 10am to 6pm Mondays to Fridays. It's the weekend. I have artifacts on my screen. I cannot work with these colorful shapes blasting right in my face. This is not a rant. Please help me. Many thanks in advance.

  • Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 for 17inch Unibody

I was trying to update, just there is a problem. drive ultility shows me that my harddisk has a master boot record type. But this is quite impossible, cause i am booting everytime to osx and osx needs a guid type. Under systempreferences start volume i can't see neither the osx partition nor the xp partition, i just can see network partition, but am not on a network. i can even not start the boot camp. But i can also boot inside windows by pressing the alt button. What can i do to make this update? Thanks

I do reinstall everything and i am very disapointed with apple bootcamp. the problem is, as i said: i formated as guid with leopards dvd, then i did the graphical update. but when i do bootcamp, it mades itself a master boot, it converts it!!! so when apple has released this update, it was allready master boot type. and i couldn't install the update before. i also try to remove the partition but it will stay master boot. it seems apple does not give a good support to recover from master boot record partition table to the early guid partition table. ok but now i managed it, i just reinstall everything. just is a little beat anoying everytime reinstalling everything after a need firmware update. I hope apple does something with bootcamp to made it possible, to convert back to guid partition table without the need of formatting the disk and reinstalling everything, thanks!

  • Graphics Firmware update for iMac with with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 or 7600 GT

I am one of the many with an 06 24" iMac that has the graphics card glitch. Downloaded and installed this firmware update today and worked all day with no issues. The update says it is for users that are running Windows 7 in boot camp.
Is this coincidental and the firmware fixed the issue so many of us have with these iMacs with the NVIDIA cards or did I just jinx myself and my problems are bound to return?
Guess I will know soon enough!
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL978

I've seen all sorts graphics problems mentioned. Apple sells millions of Macs per years, so any potential problem is bound to happen to at least a few customers. Assuming that people can read your mind is not a very good way to get responses.
On the other hand, if you describe the problem in detail, people reading the forum and looking for solutions may actually find your post through a keywords search, and your finding about installing the firmware update for Windows 7 may help then too, after confirming their problem is similar to your problem.
    But that's up to you...
