Frozen Battery Icon

I'm very confused. My ipod displays a frowny faced ipod with an exclimation point next to it. So i plugged it in to my computer to restore it. But when i do that, it flashes from the apple, to the frown, to the battery icon, which it freezes on. I can't restore the ipod, because my computer won't recognize it, and it won't recognize it because it's frozen (i think). Also, restarting it (toggleing off and on.....) does nothing. SOMEBODY, HELP!!!!!!

First off, Sad iPod = iPod can't load the software.
To put your iPod into disk mode, you generally hold down the fast forward and reverse buttons at the same time while the Apple logo's on the screen after resetting. I think -- don't quote me on this -- that for click-wheel iPods (that's iPod mini, nano, and newer full-size iPods) you reset the iPod, then hold the select and menu buttons simultaneously. You'll know you're in disk mode when, if your iPod's not connected, you see "OK to Disconnect" or if your iPod's connected to your PC, you see "Do Not Disconnect".
Disk mode doesn't need the software on your iPod's hard drive, so it's guaranteed to start unless something's really bad. Once you've done that, you should be able to use the iPod software updater to restore your iPod to factory condition.
If that still doesn't work, call Apple. It may mean that the hard drive or logic board in your iPod is malfunctioning.

  • Small Battery Icon frozen on FULL!

The small battery icon in the top right corner is frozen on full.. so i'm left not knowing how much charge I have left before the phone goes dead and needs a full charge.. It seems to be since the new update, anyone have any ideas...??
    Chhers!!

    Hi matty76,
Try a reset as ride1992 suggested. Just hold the Home & Sleep/Wake buttons until you see an Apple logo on the screen.
If that does not work try draining the iPhone battery completely and then charging it completely.
If the issues persist try restoring the iPhone as described here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744

  • Frozen with battery icon

Hi my 60 gb black ipod video is frozen it only shows the battery icon and when resetting it it shows the small batter icon with a ! I have tried to charge it with my computer but it doesn´t do anything.
    Thanks

If a reset doesn't do anything, and the computer won't recognize the iPod to allow you to do a restore - there's nothing you can do but take it to an Apple store or the place where you purchased it.

  • Power Manager locking taskbar and creating two battery icons on X201

I am having an issue with one of my X201s and Power Manager running windows 7.  My other X201 that runs the same software and was buil7 withing a few months does not have the issue. Periodically while on the internet a second battery icon will pop up on the task bar just partially overlapping the first icon and it has a fluttering appearance. When that happens the task bar is frozen and it takes accessing task manager to be able to restart the computer.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest versions of the driver for Power Manager and Power Manager but that did not fix the problem.  Not running Power Manager seems to prevent any problems but that is not what I want to do.   I did some reading last night and it seems I am not the only one having an issue and it is not confined to the particular model.  Searching did not lead me to real answers. Looking for a solution or a better way to diagnosis this.
T430 - Taskbar Frozen? This worked for me.
    ‎01-11-2014 01:44 AM
I thought I would post this in case someone has the same issue I did.  Today my taskbar froze after startup (i.e. I couldn't access the start button or any other icon on the task bar and I had a two wonky grey battery icons where only one should have been).  Restarting explorer.exe didn't help.  It didn't even work in safe mode.  No viruses, malware, disk/hardware issues could be found.  The culprit was the Power Manager.  There have already been a couple threads on this, but they are somewhat convoluted in addressing the issue so I thought I would post a straight forward solution.
I had version 6.3x installed on my T430 (which is only a couple months old, by the way). I had read in another thread that the power manager has been causing problems with the taskbar from way back BUT merely uninstalling it after the problem occurs has triggered the blue screen of death for several users.
So, I downloaded and installed the latest version of Power Manager (currently 6.6x).  I did not uninstall the previous version first.  I simply installed the new version and restarted the computer when prompted. This fixed the frozen taskbar issue.
Then, and only then, did I uninstall power manger completely because I never want to deal with this again. Everything is now back to normal.
    The TL;DR version:
Step 1: Download and install latest version of power manager. DO NOT uninstall previous of power manager first.
    Step 2: Restart computer
Step 3: For peace of mind, unistall the latest version of power manager.
    Step 4: Restart computer
I hope this helps anyone who needs it.

Well using the older version of powermanger did not work as the issue popped up again.  I also discovered the other X201 in the house was also having the same issue with the two battery icons and locked task bar.
I tried a new tactic which unchecking the the box in Power Manager-Options-Show periodic messages about the battery condition.  This so far no brought up the problem but more testing is necessary to be certain.

My MacBook Air 13' (2013) will occasionally start the fan at full blast, not connect to any wifi or detect any wifi, and will remove the battery icon from my menu bad as well as tell me there is no battery connected. How do I fix this? I have restarted my computer multiple times, **** it down, and ran a diagnostic test to tell me nothing is wrong and my computer is not running any applications. There is no reason for the fan to be on full blast! when I try to set the option to show my battery icon in the menu bar, it will automatically uncheck. How do I fix all of this?

Have you tried SMC and PRAM resets?

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Try doing the application load with the battery out.  It will error out and give a message similar to "unable to connect to device during a multi-stage load operation".  Once you get the error, put the battery back in and try the application load again.
You may have to try this four or five times, but if you can "spark" it for the second it looks for the PIN and gets connected you can finish the load.
    Make sense?

  • TS3716 mi iPod is not recognized by itunes. I keep getting" do not diconnect " and a battery icon. Using windows 7

My ipod nano cannot be reinstalled by itunes. I get "do not dissconect" and a battery icon. using windows 7. Any suggestions ?

    - First I would remove and reinstall all the Apple software using the following and then restoring the ipOd.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    - Next see if manually placing the iPOd in recovery mode will allow a restore. For recovery mode see:

    - Next try DFU mode:

    - Next try another computer/cable to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem.
    - If the other computer works and yours does not see:

  • My battery icon has disappeared from my menu bar at the top of the screen and the energy saver preferences simply says 'Could not load Energy Saver preference pane'

My battery icon randomly disappeared a few months ago from my menu bar and i have been unable to make it come back. After researching solutions online it soon became clear that all of the suggestions needed me to go into the energy saver preferences in the setting however the icon for the energy saver preferences is no longer there and whenever i click in the blank space where it used to be, it simply says 'Could not load Energy Saver preference pane'. As a result of this i never know how much battery i have left and so i just have to wait for the machine to die each time
The mac in question is a 13 inch 2012 macbook air that is running on OS Mavericks at the moment.
Any ideas on how to get the icon back?
    - I recently discovered by accident that before i actually log into my account on my mac, when i am still on the page that contains the options of guest user etc. at that point the battery icon is displayed in the top right hand corner? Why is it that the icon exists there but not once i have logged it? Thankyou for any advice.

  • IPhone won't power on or show battery icon after discharge.

My iPhone4 ran out of battery.  I plugged as soon as I could after it ran out (within 15 mins) and charged it overnight.  It won't power on this morning and does not show the charged battery icon on the screen.  The phone is only 4.5 months old and has never been left in a car or extreme heat.  I always let the bettery run down to <10% before charging and then charge back to full capacity.   I have tried holding down the home key and the sleep/wake buttons individually and together and nothing.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help.  I had tried to connect it to the computer on my own and found out that my version of iTunes must  be too old to talk to my iPhone4.  I am still running 10.4.11 on my PowerBook G4 which uses an older version of iTunes.  I don't use the music feature on my phone to conserve my battery for Apps and other features I really like and leave the music to my Shuffle.  Guess I am really lucky it doesn't work as I would hate to loose my photos of my new grandson.  I need to find a quick way to send them to backup storage.
When I disconnected after trying the computer and tried your suggestion of holding it until I saw the symbol, it finally worked.  Guess I did not hold them both together for long enough.  The battery only shows 31% even though it was on wall charger all night.  I will use it as is today and charge it overnight again to see if it gets a full charge.

  • X over battery icon, got new battery yesterday still won't go away

I brought my MacBook into the apple store yesterday because an X had shown up on my battery icon. They gave me a new battery because the old one had expanded and everything seemed to be working fine. This morning, I wake my computer up and the X is back over the battery and it says "no batteries available"--the same message that I was getting before. It works both plugged in a not, when I unplug the adapter, it still has the X and says no batteries available but also says power source: battery (talk about identity crisis!). I tried resetting the SMC and PRAM but the X is still there. After resetting the SMC, it says that it is charging the battery which has a 0% charge for about a minute before the X comes back. When you press the button on the battery, all of the lights light up.
What do I do?? Of course, my apple care expired literally a week ago so I'm SOL if there's anything major wrong.

    Hello Sue,
Congratulations on your new iPhone 5c, and thank you for providing so much detail about the issue you are experiencing with Voice Memos.
The first thing I recommend is quitting and relaunching the applications on your iPhone:
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
If you are still seeing the same issue after quitting and relaunching the Voice Memos app, I recommend restarting your phone and then resetting if it's still not working:
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
You can find the full article here:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, the last thing I recommend is backing up and restoring your iPhone:

  • Date and Battery icons playing up?

    Hi all --
Have an annoying date and battery icon inconsistency - maybe its a recurring prob. for others, but havent been able to find the answer on the boards.
After opening the P.B. from standby, the time shown is the time I put P.B. to sleep. About five seconds later it resets itself to the current time. Last time this happened, I started getting kernel panics after not rectifying the prob. (doubtful its related) - all was fixed with a PRAM / PMU / NVRAM zap. have tried PRAM-ing again, but no change to time delay. (havent attempted PMU & NVRAM unless necess.)
The battery icon has also been showing incorrect usage 'time left' - until i switch between the 'percentage' and 'time' options in the battery icon drop down menu.
Is zapping the PMU / NVRAM / PMU the correct way to approach a fix for this?
    Am I close?
Thnx for any advice in advance --
    cheers,
    J.

Generally, letting the phone completely discharge and then charging to 100% helps with this. If not, a Reset, and then a Restore if that doesn't work.

  • I got a replacement battery but I'm seeing an 'x' in the battery icon...

I got the battery from Laptop Battery One b/c my last battery was lasting 8-10 minutes. I charged the battery and made sure to try to get it charged up and used down through many cycles to help the battery get up to full speed.  Today, I unplugged the power cord and the battery icon is not showing % or time left, it simply is transparent with an 'x' in it.  And the laptop is still working although if I step away and the battery goes into energy saving mode, it won't wake up until I plug the cord back in and tap it.
what does that x mean and what should I do? I can't imagine this is normal.
    Thanks!
    Bernice

I looked at Laptop Battery One's website, and it looks like they make their own batteries, rather than selling Apple-brand batteries. Is this correct?
Also, with modern batteries, you should not cycle the power like that. It is not neccessary to fully charge and fully discharge the battery, and this will probably do more harm than any percieved good. Ideal battery use is something like you take your laptop to work and discharge some power each day, and then charge it back up at night. Basically, just keep the power moving. Don't leave it plugged in all the time (any Mac should automatically discharge about 5% and then recharge to help stay healthy when plugged in for long periods). NEVER fully discharge it if you can avoid it.
SO ANYWAY.... resetting the SMC may help:
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • I just bought a new battery for my MacBook but when I click on the battery icon it is says no battery available. Why?

I bought a new battery for my MacBook today.  I put it into my computer, but when I click on my battery icon it says no battery availble.  I would like to know why?

    Hi....
    Try restarting your Mac ...
"Keep in mind that once the new battery is inserted, you will need to press the power button to start up the computer."
From here > MacBook Pro: How to remove or install the battery
If it restarts ok the battery icon should be available from the status menu bar.
