Frozen blackberry curve 8520

hi, i was wondering if anyone could help me.
i was logging out of facebook on my blackberry curve, when it froze. i turned it off and on again, but it would only fill up three quaters of the bar on the loading up screen. i then took the battery out left it for a while put it back in, and it has done exactly the same thing. could anyone help me by telling me what i can do to get my blackberry working again.
many thanks

Hi kittykat88,
Is your BlackBerry able to connect with the Desktop Software? If it is, Try backing up and reloading your device software. http://bbry.lv/kGwjGm
Hope this helps.

  • Blackberry Curve 8520 'frozen'

My Blackberry Curve 8520 seems to have frozen. None of the functions such as the trackpad and answer button work at all, only the keys on the keypad SWLHG & Y do. I can't answer calls or place calls.  It connects to Desktop manager with no problems at all and I have tried updating the software. The phone has not been dropped or had any water damage and I checked inside for the water sticker, which is fine.
The phone is on a contract with Orange and I have insurance on it, but I am wondering if there is any 'fix'

Ah yes, knowing what has already been attempted certainly prevents wasting anyone's time.
So, with that, what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? Something else? The tiniest thing could be causal, so think very carefully.
If there was some change, then you have two possible ways to proceed.
    1) Remove the change. Given then behavior, you'll have to use the Desktop Software to remove whatever the offending thing is:
KB10376Remove applications from the BlackBerry smartphone
    2) Reload your OS clean, and then start putting apps back on. You'd want to go slow here...giving it time to know for sure that the behavior presents or not. Once it starts, you know the culprit.
If there was no change recently, then you likely can only go with method 2...
Lastly...don't rule out moisture damage. The behavior could actually indicate that. And moisture intrusion into a BB is much easier to suffer than one would think (with the indicators sometimes not presenting positive). To attempt to treat that, you'd need to follow this FAQ:

  • My blackberry curve 8520 has lost all my pictures in the lost.dir folder how do I recover them

I have a blackberry curve 8520 and it has moved all of my pictures on my memory card into a folder called LOST.DIR (I`m not 100% sure they have moved there but  I found a lot of files in there that seem to be my pictures) I am not sure how I  can recover these files, please help! I`m not sure if it has something to do  with the fact that a few weeks ago I was taking a picture and a pop up came up  and said something along the line of there wasn`t enough memory on my SD card so  pictures will save on device memory and I clicked yes. I`ve taken out the SD  card and battery several times and that hasn`t worked. I took someone else`s  advice an moved the folder into the DCIM folder where I was able to rename one  file to . jpeg but I cannot open it. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

    Hey Tosin29188,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
Are you able to locate this folder when accessing the media card from a PC or Mac?  Also are the pictures files renamed to a different extension? (For example: Picture.rem)
Are you able to open the media files up on a computer?
I look forward to your reply.
    Cheers.

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan enabled on your account with your carrier or mobile provider?
You must, in order to get the RIM push email functions you are looking for, as well as additional BlackBerry data services such as the internet browser, Facebook for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Messenger, and much more.
So, call your carrier and inquire about having the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.
    Good luck.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!!
There's pretty much no diagnosing those -- they are the equivalent of the random errors in Windows for which tracing the root cause is fruitless. Basically, these are the last out in the programming code -- some event occurred for which there is no handler in the code. The fix is a code update that handles the event...but, again, knowing what the event is is pretty much impossible. So, there are a few things to try:
Sometimes, the code simply becomes corrupt and needs to be refreshed -- just like a reboot:
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
If it won't boot up cleanly, then you may need to try Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in safe mode
There might be an updated code set from the carrier -- check them via this portal:
     http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
The toughest possible cause is a badly behaving app. To find it, there are a couple of options. One is to see if you can read the log file:
Go to the home screen. Hold down the "alt" key and type 'lglg'. (You will not see anything while you type). This will bring up the log file. Scroll down (probably many pages) untill you see a line that says 'uncaught execption'. Click on this line. The name of the app will be in the info. Alternative methods for bringing up the logs are in this KB:
KB05349How to enable, access, and extract the event logs on a BlackBerry smartphone
The other method is to remove apps one at a time, waiting a while in between (I usually recommend a week), until the problem ceases...thereby discovering the offending app. Still another method is to reload the BB OS cleanly, leaving some time between adding other apps onto the BB so as to be able to determine exactly which one is the cause.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Blackberry Curve 8520 not working correctly

My Blackberry Curve 8520 is not working correctly. It has worked on and off for about 2 days now.
The first thing to stop was the media files - at first it said the SD card was inserted, but couldn't find any files. I've tried repairing the card. Then it is said there was no card inserted. Have taken out and re-entered the card, and formatted it. It now says there is no card inserted again.
Also, Whatsapp and BBM are not working. I can open them, and can type a message, and press send, but no message actually sends.
Plus the screen keeps freezing, will only work again through a battery pull.
I've had the phone for about 3 months.
    Please help!

    Hello Sarahhelen,
I would suggest backing up and doing a clean reload of the BlackBerry® device software as shown here: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB11320. Please test before restoring any data to the device.
If this resolves the issue do a selective restore of essential data (Address Book, Calendar, Task, Memos, BBM contacts etc.)
How to use BlackBerry® Desktop Software to restore data to a BlackBerry® smartphone from a backup file
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB10339.
If the issue still persists after the reload, further investigation might be required. To help further diagnose the cause, contact your wireless service provider or BlackBerry® Technical Support Services for further review and support.
    Thank you.

  • HELP PLEASE! Blackberry curve 8520 - keep getting stuck on "white screen"

    thanks

Do you have a media card installed? If so, remove the battery while the phone is powered on, remove the media card (leave it out), then reinsert the battery and let the phone fully reboot. See if that makes a difference or not.

I cant read PDF files on my blackberry curve 8520. Its not working, please help.

You will need PDF file reader application in you smartphone to read PDF files. But if you receive PDF files as email attachments then they'll open in your phone.

  • Can't create a personal email account on my Blackberry Curve 8520.

I cannot create an personal email account on my Blackberry Curve 8520. I’ve already followed some of the instructions from this forum and on the main website of Blackberry but still can’t create an email account for my phone.
These are the steps I’m doing when I’m trying to create and email.
From the home screen, go to Setup.
    Click Setup Wizard.
    Click Email Setup.
But when I’m in the email setup, the only option I have is the “I want to use a work email account with a Blackberry Enterprise Server.
I don’t have the option of “I want to create or add an email address”.
Now, how can I create a personal email account on my phone?
I hope somebody can help me in my problem.
    Solved!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
To use the proprietary RIM Push email capability, you must have an adequate data plan from your carrier. The carriers host BIS for their BB users. Typically, BIS is not available via generic data plans. Many carriers call what is necessary The Blackberry Data Plan. Whatever they call it, it is the carrier who delivers BIS to their BB users -- contact them for assistance. Once you have a BIS-capable data plan on your BB (at whatever fees your carrier will charge, btw), you will then have Personal Email added to the email setup wizard.
    Good luck!

It seems that you have not installed the correct blackberry software for your device, or might be select the incorrect carrier for your blackberry handheld. You need to download the correct blackberry software with your service provider and before installing the software, disconnect your BB device from the computer and then install it with proper administrative privilege.
After installing the software on your computer, make sure to hard boot your blackberry handheld before connecting it to your computer. If the same problem persists, then use JVM Loder to complete wipe your blackberry device memory then connect with the desktop manager and install the software.
    Good luck..!!!

  • How to download Thai Font to Blackberry curve 8520

My blackberry curve 8520, T-mobile network, ver 5.0.0.681 hasn't got Thai Font on it. I would like to download Thai font for reading and input (writing).please explain how to do it step by step because I do have not much knowledge about computer or software.  I have read some topics says that I have to download and choose the network provider which mine is T-mobile and it provides only Muli-language (not All Languages) which I can't write it (only reading). I am not too sure it is correct or not.I believe I need to download Blackberry desktop software as well. please also give advice on these software.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages (add/remove programs, Uninstall a Program -- it depends on your Windows OS level)
    2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?lid=us:bboftwareesktopSoftware&lpos=us:bboftware
    3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
If your carrier only provides a "Multi Language" package, then you may need to look at other carriers OS packages, and find some that have "East Asia" or "All Languages" ("Multi Language" indeed does not have Thai, as per this KB).
    4) If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
    5) Now launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC, and you should be able to select the languages you desire If, during the process, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
    Don't forget to backup.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software
