Frozen charging icon on Ipod mini - help!

I've got an early-ish IPOD MINI, about a year old now, worked ok at first although battery life was never better than about 4 hours. First problem - after about 6 months or so - once turned off, would not turn on again without reset. However I lived with that. more recently, battery life now down to about 2 hours and I cannot download any new music onto the mini from Itunes. I can charge ipod up from wall charger direct Ok , but even when battery shows as fully charged, as soon as I connect up to computer via firewire, it starts to charge up and then the charging thunderbolt icon freezes ... from troubleshooting section, this appears to mean battery is too low for computer to 'talk' to the IPod. Although I have followed advice & left it connected (for Hours) this doesn't help.
So _ i reckon battery is duff - sent it back to apple for repair within warranty period - but after three weeks they sent back standard letter - in FRENCH! - refusing a repair on grounds fault was down to my mis-use.this is possible as I have dropped it a few times - but also could be convenient excuse ..
Lousy service, no indication of whether it could be repaired or not if I paid so can anyone tell me, is my only option now to buy a new one?
If so I think my husband will probably divorce me on the grounds of insanity (ie i must need my head testing to spend more money on such an unreliable product) but i really love my ipod - don't want another type mp3 player.
Has anyone any useful suggestions please??

many thanks, might give them a try. Had a look at their website and seems to be £5.00 charge for diagnostic if turns out to be uneconomic to repair - which isn't too bad. Has anybody got any feedback from using these people for repairs - can't be worse than Apple!

  • Where can I buy a charger for an ipod mini 1st generation

Where can I buy a charger for an ipod mini 1st generation

I believe that is a 4th gen iPod.  When you say "charger," do you mean the USB docking cable?  Or do mean a USB power adapter that you connect to a wall outlet to charge the iPod?
If it's the docking cable, it's the standard USB docking cable
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA591G/C/apple-30-pin-to-usb-cable
If you happen to have a Mac with a FireWire port, the 4th gen iPod actually ALSO works (better) over a FireWire connection.  But you'll have to look for an old FireWire docking cable on eBay (or other online source).
If you are asking about a USB power adapter, this is the lowest power version from Apple, and it works with the 4th gen iPod.

  • Updated iPod, now showing Main Charge Icon, but iPod isn't charging

I updated my iPod mini with the lastest update and it has now asked for me to plug it into a main outlet to finish the update. I have pluged my iPod in, but it won't do the update. It just keeps showing the plug into main Icon. I have tried different cables and different power points but nothing I am doing is working. I have even tried to re-plug it into the computer. But everytime it gets power connected or turn on. It shows this Icon. What can I do?? I can't even restore it as it won't come up on the computer..

Did you try a reset whilst plugged into power?
How to reset the iPod if it appears frozen or doesn't respond.

  • Ipod library in ITunes freezes with Ipod Mini - HELP

    Hi!
    I have the folowing problem.
When I connect my Ipod Mini, te ITunes recognizes the Ipod and shows me the content of it. However, I can't play any of its songs nor add other songs; everything related to the Ipod in the ITunes is frozen. Please note that I can hear the music outside the Ipod through ITunes. I have already tried the 5R`s but doesnt work.
    Please help!!
    Than you in advance!
    Alan

You have to pod set on "Auto Update" if you want to drag/drop and play songs on your PC from the pod, you have to set it to "Manual update" rightclick the pod in iTunes select "iPod Options" and here you can change it to that if you wish.
If you do this tho you will have to manually eject it from the PC everytime

  • Charging iTouch with iPod Mini charger

Can my new iTouch be charged with my old iPod mini chargers? I have one USB and one Firewire cable. Thanks.

If you haven't seen this other post, it might answer your question. Basically the answer seems to be to keep your iPod Touch charged through a USB charger no matter what form, but not a Firewire charger. I'm still not sure about this myself, though, so if someone has a better answer about charging an iPod Touch with a Firewire wall charger, that would be helpful. Thanks.

  • Ipod Mini Help - Need Idiot's Guide to Set Up

Help! I got an ipod mini for Xmas from my boyfriend. He loaded 500 songs onto my ipod from his ibook. However as we've split up I haven't really used it but I'm going travelling for a year (this weekend-nothing like being prepared...!) and would like to take it with me and set up play lists etc.
I haven't even connected my ipod to my laptop as I've heard that when you connect to it/itunes that yr ipod contents can be wiped if you are already registered with another PC/Mac. So basically I don't know what order I have do stuff so that I can get some tunes I like rather than listening to ex-boyf's taste in music.
Hope this makes sense - never posted on this before and am a bit of a technophobe.

BTW i tried downloading the latest version of the ipod updater to no avail
So you were not able to download the iPod Updater?
    What happens?

I thought of uninstalling the ipod software from the previous ipod but am afraid to lose my music on itunes.
You can't "uninstall" the software from the iPod.
You can Restore the iPod to erase it but it will still have the iPod OS on it.
This won't affect your computer at all.

  • Itunes wont open/ file icon on ipod- NEED HELP ASAP!

My itunes will not open at all on my comp. I downloaded the newest version, then nothing would open. I removed all versions and attempted to re-install again. Now, my ipod will not turn on. There is a file icon with an exclamation point. I dont know waht to do and I am leaving for a long trip in a few days and need my ipod! any help asap would be greatly appreciated!
    dell   Windows XP

    OK-
First, let's get your iTunes open.
Click on Start, Click on Run
    Type msconfig
Click on the startup tab (last one on the right)
    Click on "disable all"
    Click apply, then click close
Go ahead and restart your computer when prompted to do so
When your computer starts back up, you should be able to open up your iTunes. When it opens, close it again. Now that we know it is able to open, it needs to be closed in order to resolve the file folder with exclamation point error.
Now, let's get that file folder issue resolved.
Click start, click all programs, click iPod, click iPod updater, click iPod updater (again)
Click OK when you see the dialogue that tells you what the application's capabilities are
Connect your iPod when it tells you to
Click on the "restore" button when it becomes available
IF the restore button does not become available, and if the iPod updater fails to recognize the iPod, disconnect it. Reset the iPod by (making sure the hold switch is off) pressing the menu button and the select button at the same time for about 10 seconds, until you get the Apple logo. As soon as you get the Apple logo, hold down the select button and the play/pause button together until you get a check mark on the screen. You may have to try this several times to get it to work... and sometimes it helps to lay the iPod down on a hard flat surface, like a table or your computer desk.
Once you get the iPod into disk mode, you can go ahead and try to restore it again. (Start > All Programs > iPod > iPod Updater > iPod Udpater) Click OK, Connect your iPod when it asks you to do so, and then click the restore button when it becomes available.

  • My Computer won't recognize my ipod mini - HELP!

I've had my mini for 8 months now, happily working.
Now when I plug it in the USB port, my computer (an hp laptop) doesn't recognize it - no "ping" sound - it doesn't appear in "My Computer" - it doesn't appear in itunes - it doesn't charge - it doesn't synch.
The mini plays music ok and itunes is working ok -
    Please give me advice

    Christopher,
First of all, try resetting the iPod whilst it is connected. Very often this will get it recognised by the computer.
There are also some troubleshooting steps listed here.

  • Ipod mini, help

I posted a thread a long while ago:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=398983&tstart=0
and i left out some details
i connect my ipod into the computer
and in the my computer window
the drive comes up as a removable drive
but itunes wont load my ipod.
    the originating trouble
was that i had my ipod connected
    (and previously working)
    to another ocmputer of mine
which i beleive might have of crashed
and i beleive my father without knowing
he began to try to revive the comptuer
(which was a windows xp running PC)
and now i still haven't been able to get
    my ipod fixed.
and since i purchased this ipod from a
friend, it didnt have a warranty (i am
unaware how he obtained it, but i never
had a warranty) so im unaware of how much
the costs would be if i am to send it to
apple to try and get it fixed..
if there could be an easier way of trying
to get it to run on my own.
    that woul dbe greatly appreciated
    thanks.

  • Major problem with ipod mini help please

Hey, I got my i-pod mini about 3 years ago. Everything has been workin great until recently, the backlight dosent stay on. This isnt the only problem in fact this is a minr problem, the main problems are that once i turn the ipod on i cant turn it off again and just have to let the battery run out, also when i go into a song list it wont let me out of it again, i keep on pressing menu to return to the song list but it wont go back. I have tried to reset it but this hasnt changed anything. Has anyone got an suggestions?
    Many Thanks

the software on it is corrupted? or was modded for linux use?

  • My Ipod mini got wet..is there any hopes for it? HELP PLEASE

My ipod got wet by mistake. Is there any way that it could survive? Or and i better of just getting a new ipod.
Also after is was wet( i didn't know) i plugges it into the charger and started 2 smell smoke. It didn't catch on fire but the bottom of both the charger and the ipod mini got somewhat burnt.
    HELP!

In my opinion you made a big mistake by trying to turn on the iPod by plugging it into the charger without letting it dry out first. You should have left it somewhere warm and dry for at least 4 or 5 days to ensure it completely dried out before attempting to turn it on or plugging it into a charger.
To be honest, I think you need another one!

  • Ipod mini charger for 30GB Video?

I had my ipod mini for a long time, then decided to get the 30gb video. But I noticed that the video only comes with the USB cable and I can only charge it when its plugged into a computer.
Would I be able to take my charger for the Ipod mini(the one that has the firewire outlet that plugs into the charger) on my 30gb Ipod video? Would it create any problems with the battery?

Nice nice. Thanks for the help
So just to make things perfectly clear.
USB wire that came with the ipod = Updates + charges.
and the firewire charger block thingy = charges when plugged into a wall socket.
    thank you
