Frozen Display and Fire alarm Sound

Hello, I hope one of you can help me.
Since yesterday my iMac had this issue three times and I still don't know what the problem ist.
Out of nowhere (just listening to some music or using facebook)  the display of my iMac freezes so I can't do anything, neither click on anything or use any key combination. Besides that a loud alarm occures that soundes like a fire alarm... it makes three loud noises, a break and again three loud noices and so on and so on.
(it's hard to explain so here's a link to a video I found on youtube: http://www.google.de/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&ved=0CE8Qt wIwAg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DCmH1pHer66o&ei=CJELU_7HL8XR sgau9YCgAg&usg=AFQjCNE-XBrsHOSS7Ru03KKyjsTgzKEU0g&sig2=RuCY2xbs26tFQsHSvtWgpg&bv m=bv.61725948,d.Yms )
The only way to stop it is to turn off the iMac via the start button or to unplug the power supply.
Does anyone have an idea what the cause for this might be?
Thank you very much for your help!!!
Kind Regards
Birte

I have the same problem but on Linux machine. Removing settings directory $HOME/.mozilla seams to "fix" the problem.

  • Intel OS X 10.7 iMac has white screen and three-alarm sound, won't start up

Intel OS X 10.7 iMac has white screen and three-alarm sound, won't start up

The 3 beeps during start-up are telling you that the RAM is bad.
If you can access the RAM modules, you may try taking them out and putting them back in, perhaps it's only bad contacts.
If that doesn't help, you'll need new RAM module(s).

i am not sure but beside the alarm sound issue your video is also not working correctly i think its logic board issue because of the alarm sound and graphics issue, my recommendation is to call apple authorized service center for checking it i think your first one year warranty expired do you have apple care for your laptop?

  • Frozen display with loud clicking sounds

So a few days ago when I came back to my computer after it had been asleep for a bit, I clicked on the screen to wake it up and it made the usual whirring sound and the display popped up. The display was frozen and the computer kept making its starting up whirring noise, but then followed by three loud clunk clunk clunk noises. I forced it to shut off and it turned on fine, but the next time this happened and I shut it off, when I started it up again it made the whirring and clunking noises, and eventually brought up a grey folder with a question mark in it on the start up screen instead of the usual apple.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on and know any solutions?
    Thanks!

No such computer. Either you have an iMac G5 (non Intel) or an Intel iMac. 2 completely different types of iMacs. Different troubleshooting solutions.

  • Does the iPhone display turn on when the iPhone is asleep anan alarm sounds

My iPhone was asleep when its alarm sounded. It was in airplane mode (I didn't want someone calling me during the night). When the alarm sounded, I heard the alarm sound and the phone vibrate, but the display itself was still off; I had to press the on/off/sleep button to see it.
    Is that as expected?

It's weird -- I set an alarm, put the phone to sleep, and this time the display did turn on when the alarm sounded. Hmm...

  • IMac sounds like a fire alarm!

Hi to everyone! I have a problem - i just purchased 27 inch iMac (middle 2010, 3.6 Ghz i5.), and everything was great until i started to edit videos. When i'm trying to start render, it works 1-2 minutes and then computer  become sound like a fire alarm, it's sooo loud and terrible, and i have no idea why it happens. I have a 16Gb ram and almost empty 1Tb drive. Does anyone know what's the problem? Thanks

allright, looks like i found a reason of all this messing. probably the problem is in RAM. i removed 2 cards, and now everything works good. photoshop, illustrator, lightroom and premiere are doing export/render at the same time, and i don't see any freezing and alarm. yes, now it's not fast, but i can finish my current projects. try to understand how to upgrade to 16gb again after

  • How do I adjust the display and sound with my Macbook Pro connected to my Sony Bravia?

I just bought the DVI - HDMI and then connected my Mac to my 46" Sony Bravia.  It works obviously cause I'm typing right now, but it is so painful to try and read anything less than what appears to be 14 font or so.  The display is set at 1080p obviously because that's the whole point of this, but is there a way to try and make things bigger?  I don't want to sit super close to the TV and fry my eyeballs, that also defeats the purpose of this.  Another question regarding sound.  It seems I can only adjust the sound from my keyboard, but I would rather do it through my TV's volume control so I can make things louder.  Any help would be awesome.  Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.  My dumbself forgot that right next to my new TV is my old TV, a 40" Samsung LCD.  Now I put it on my desk and I have it in 1080p and everything is going good except for the fact that I can't see the top bar on my desktop and now the sound seems to be coming exclusively from my Mac instead of my TV, although I still have it hooked up with an HDMI cable.  Any new thoughts?
EDIT:  Ok fixed the display issue, but I'm still getting sound out of my Mac.  Really confused on what to do.  I don't see why I could get audio out of my Sony TV with an HDMI cable but not my Samsung.  Doesn't the same principle apply?  Xbox and PS3 work that way, so pretty confused unless I need to get a digital audio cable or something.

If everything else is the same, that is strange. I have seen a post or two that reported only certain HDMI ports working with computer input, so if the Sammy has another HDMI input, give that a try.

  • Ipod Touch 3G no longer plays clock alarm sounds and just pauses and shows alarm messages.

All of a sudden, I am no longer able to hear clock alarm sounds like I used to.  Until recently, I was able to just play a music file, set the clock alarm with any sound from the selection while being able to preview the sound before I saved it, and then have it play at the time I set the alarm.  Now, whatever music I'm playing just pauses while the alarm goes off and the alarm messages are visble on screen. I went to settings--->general-->sounds and everything is on.  What happened here?

Yes, I did. All I needed to do was raise the volume from zero to above using the *actual buttons on the side* of the device instead of just the touch screen volume control. If you try to adjust the volume using *only* the touchscreen volume control, the sound of your music and videos will be affected directly as you desire, BUT if the volume control from the *actual buttons on the side* is completely down, the alarm clock will not sound.
I hope this helps. It may not make sense right off the bat but do give it a try.

Let the battery fully darain. After charging for an least an hour try a reset and restore. Use Recovery mode if necessary.
If not successful, then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Hello, since nobdy else has replied...
    Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there.

  • This morning when I turned my macbook pro on, an alarm sound came from my computer and a thin, short line of light was flashing next to the pulsing light that did not come on.  The pulser light has not come on at all today.

This morning an alarm sound accompanied by a flashing thin light happened when I turned on my macbook pro.  Now the pulser light is not coming on at all and there is a steady thin light to the left of the pulser that stays on when I close my laptop.  Does anyone know what may have happened?

That seems like a memory problem.

Does anyone knows a solutions for this: my intel iMac was on all afternoon till suddenly the screen turns black and it starts making some sort of an alarm sound "tuut tuuut". I tried restarting but nothing changes. I tried restarting from the installation Disc with C-key but no result. As a matter of fact i can't even get the disc out of my iMac anymore. Thanx

That sounds like hardware problems, I suggest you call your local Apple Store to my an appointment for them to check it out for you.
