Frozen in time

I have the sleep timer set to go off to wake the Mac to do a back up daily. Many times it will wake up with the clock frozen at the time it previously slept, no pointer on the screen and it won't go back to sleep even though the sleep time is set at 3 minutes. Backing up does take place without a problem. Simply moving the mouse resets the clock, brings back the pointer and the sleep timer works.
This problem takes place before any backing up starts and does not need to be fixed for the backup to be successful.
Appreciate any thoughts

Try holding both the CENTER and the MENU button until you see the Apple logo. This is how you reset the iPod.
Cheers!

  • Database frozen in time

    Oracle 10.2.4
    Solaris 10.5 SPARC 64bits
I have a database that I want frozen in time and looking for the best way to accomplish it. It is a very smal database use by software testers in one of our centers.
Here is what I am thinking thus far: I will like to tar up the directory with the database and move it to a third party drive or maybe to the NAS for safe keeping. And maybe if I need it in the future, we could just untar directory and ready to use it. Is this feasible?

Flashback database is just a fast and simple way of "rolling" back a database, but it has its limits and can be quite space consuming depending on your flashback retention policy. If you are thinking about long term flashback look into flashback data archive and enable it on appropriate tables. However, I think there is nothing better or superior to a regular RMAN backup strategy and running the database in archivelog mode.I interpreted his request not as a long term flashback, but rather being able to repeatedly roll a non-production db to a particular point. I totally agree with you for production databases, but not so much for testing, those situations have different requirements. Running a test db in archivelog may or may not be desirable, depending on exactly what you are testing and what hardware resources you have available.
For example, I sometimes have to test mass loads of data that isn't as clean as a database needs, so I have to run it maybe ten times. 0 of those times will require being able to recover an interrupted load transactionally, but all of them will require starting from the same place. Why load down everything with archiving or flashback? Sometimes a database update will be so massive it makes sense to take production out of archivelog, do the update, put it back in archivelog, then backup - especially if you have a remote standby, for example, you don't want to flood a shared network for days if you don't have to, must less load to ship a compressed backup.
It's possible his request may have been to test the data as it was at various times in the past, or a long term flashback - that can be quite a project, with tables and apps being modified, not to mention upgrading. There are many situations where a regular RMAN strategy just doesn't make it, it all boils down to proper requirements definition. If RMAN fits, all the better, it does what it does very well nowadays.

  • C6-00 3 days old and has frozen 4 times.

On Thurs my mother received a C6 I ordered  for her.
Since receiving the phone on Thurs it  has frozen 4 times, twice on Thursday, once Friday and once today being Saturday, each time needing the battery removed to reboot the phone.
The last time today required her to re-enter the phone date and time.
She lives 1400klms from Nokia Care Centre and does not have a PC.
It has Telstra(carrier) brand firmware v 10.2.22 and says no updates available.
There are 4 updates released since then but none for that carrier.
    What to do Nokia ?
    Nokia 808
    Nokia CK-200

updates vary by region and product code
you can check for update OTA by typing in *#0000#
other than that you will have to send it to a nokia care point.
generally if your phone is locked you will be waiting longer

  • I got my new Zen 4gb: Had frozen 2 times in 48 hours

    Hi!
I just got my new zen. I'm a bit worried about those white screens of death. So far, it works well. It came with the last firmware installed, i think that this Zen is one of the latest batch.
Here my question... The fact that this Zen is one of the latest batch make it less propense to white screens of death? Did creative solve the problem of the white screens?
Also, in tho days it had frozen 2 times. I had to restart it with a paper clip. Is that normal?
    Thanks!

The "White Sreen of Death" is really caused by a hardware problem. You see, the internal MPU 3700 MP3 processor has to write to the LCD. If this operation is prevented by internal electronic opens or shorts, bad 3700, bad LCD or any other electronic component failure then the CPU might/will halt and refuse to write to the LCD which will be reflected in a "white screen of death" I cannot cover all the causes of the "white screen of death" but rest assured Creative should pick these problems up in their quality control manufacturing process with a 99% success rate. Problems do show up after the manufacturing process but Creative has warranty protection for this other % fault rate. (Which is normal in electronics manufacturing)
Quote: Also, in two days it had frozen 2 times. I had to restart it with a paper clip. Is that normal?
Answer: No - Try the "recovery mode" and do a clean-up and reboot.

  • IPod Nano seems frozen at times.

Fairly often when I go from one song to another (or I just turned on the iPod), the interface seems to be frozen for about 5-15 seconds. Pressing buttons has no effect. The music (or a podcast) is still playing though. This is really annoying. Is this a known issue? If not, what can I do to fix the problem?
    Thank you.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you tried Resetting your iPod? You do that by:
Ok, I know, but toggle the hold around a few times (make sure to leave it on un-hold).
Then, Hold the MENU button for 4 seconds, then with the CENTER button together for 7 seconds.
This is resetting. If you've heard any confusion about this, it doesn't delete anything off your iPod, except clearing your play counts of your songs. In a normal procedure of resetting, your iPod will sit here for about 5 seconds, then show the Apple logo...then return on normal screen.
If you've already tried this, then you can try restoring your iPod....but just post back if you have done those things or not.
    Good day!

  • Frozen in Time Machine

    Hey all,
I have a xserve (new within 2 months) and it is stuck "in time machine." You can not click cancel, no stars are flying by, nor can you really do anything else. I had this happen before and when I hard rebooted it would no longer boot up and simply went to a null screen. So where do I go from here? Does anyone have any experience with this happening? Thanks.

Oh, yeah and the blue lights on the front (I think refer to load) are all blue.

  • New iPad (3) frozen second time...

Hello, it just happened now. My mom was playing angry birds on my new iPad and when she tried to switch to another game, unblock me, a simple puzzle game, not very graphic intensive, my iPad froze. This has happened second time now and I am kind of worried now.
First time it happened when my friend was playing 'The End' game. It froze and when I pushed sleep key, even the slide unlock key was not working. I had to restart the iPad by holding lock and home key together and to wait for apple logo to shine again.
From the day one I've also noticed that the spotlight search also lags every time and swipe it. I've bought this iPad only for work, I'm not even using any heavy apps or rating games like infinity blade etc. I don't even think I've ever used the hardware to its fullest ever.
When I buy an iPad I expect it to never freeze or hang, or I'd have bought an android, right?
So I wanted to know if this is a major problem? Should I get mine iPad replaced?
How to check if my model is faulty?
I don't really think the iStore will help me much as the guys working there sounded pretty noob, I had to tell them about the new iPad and what it could possibly do etc.
    Thanks for your time.

If you are concerned Restore your device and setup as a new device. Follow the instructions here - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
iOS for me hardly freezes. If it freezes too much, that means I need to do a restore to place a fresh OS on the device. It does lag when swiping to Spotlight, I believe it is because the system is pulling up a database index of everything on the device. I cannot confirm that though.
Your expectations are a bit high in terms of never becoming unresponsive, though I believe you are right that it should not occur often. This is not a major problem. First follow the above instructions of restoring the device. If the device continues to become unresponsive multiple times per week or month, then that's when you should have yours checked.
I would not discount the Apple Store employees. If the problem continues to happen often after trying a restore, I would make an appointment with the Genius bar so the issue can be documented and cite that you have done a restore of a new device. If problems then continue then go in again even if you underestimate their knowledge, as the team is there to help you keep going. They can then verify that you have come in before and alternate solutions can be made. You are not working with just one person at an Apple Store as you can always question and ask for different solutions from the employees because they should be willing to find the solution that makes you the happiest.

  • My address book is frozen in time machine even though I have the latest version of Lion.

I deleted some contacts, that looked like duplicates, on my iPad this morning.  It deleted both cards, not just the duplicate.  I have iCloud turned on and now I cannot restore the contacts, or in fact any previous version of my address book from Time Machine!

  • Firefox (and waterfox) frozen every time I open it for first time.

I use firefox 12.0 (also I use waterfox 12) and in both when I turn on my computer and I open firefox (normally I open firefox and Windows Live Messenger) firefox hangs out as not responding for 5 or 10 senconds. That's happens ALWAYS.
It does everytime I turn on my computer and start firefox, if I close firefox and then open it well, not happened just happen the first time.
I use microsoft security essential, and the other program that execute at the start are:
    * Rainlendar
    * Syncplicity
    * Cubby
    * MS security Client
    * Kwerty Gmail notifier

I think I find the problem. I've the tab mix plus extension, I desactivated the tab mix plus Session restore and Activate the default firefox session restore. And it seems it works.

  • VM Server frozen in time

This time I have a really interesting problem :-)
One of our VM servers began performing really badly and would no longer let us ssh to it. (This also happend to a different server the other day, but we rebooted as there was no time to investigate.)
TOP on the server showed every process using 9999.00 % of the CPU

It appears from this that our VM Server has stopped time.
We have found the following note -
    http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-kernel/2007/10/3/328324/thread
but are not sure if this applies to OVM 2.2.1 2.6.18-128.2.1.4.25.el5xen
We have Intel quad core CPU.
Does anyone know if there is a patch for this, and can I get it from the public yum or do I need to get a support contract?
    Thanks in advance.
    Rod

Not sure if it was exactly the same problem. The syptem we see in common is that you can no longer ssh to the server. (I think once the clock freezes it had trouble negotiating keys.)
This happened on the first box and we rebooted it.
When this happened on a different box, we investigated further to get the information I have supplied above.
The boxes are Identical. Quad core Intel. Core2Quad. On gigabyte motherboards GA-EP45-DS4p with 16gb OCZ ram. Multipath with qla2340 fibre card to SAN.
They are in the same server pool.
    Thanks

  • Finder and desktop icons frozen after time machine backup

Finder desktop icons freeze every time after a Time Machine backup. *What's odd is that I can still use other apps, but I cannot select/open any item on the desktop*.
Adding to the strangeness, +is that what's left after the backup is finished is a blank space+ (beneath the HD icon). Typically, all the items on the desktop rearrange themselves to their original positions once the backup volume disappears (i.e. backup is complete).
I've run disk utility for permissions check, and all is well.
Would appreciate some guidance on how to fix.
This issue pre-dates the 10.5.7 update.

    HI,
    Try deleting these files.
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.desktop.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.

  • Desktop files frozen after Time Machine Backup

When I get home and plug my Mac Book Pro into the external hard drive time machine starts up and backs up. After time machine is finished I cannot click on any of the icons on my desktop. I have to switch to the login window (i don't actually have to log out, just switch to the window like I am changing users) and then login in again and everything is back to normal. If it doesn't happen on the first back up it happens on one of the subsequent ones.
I have the exact same configuration at home and at work so I my guess is the problem I am having is time machine because it only happens at home when my external hard drive is plugged in. It has never happened at work.
    Any ideas?

I have the same issue, but I don't know it it's related to time machine. Perhaps. It happens after I disconnect my USB hub at work (including the TM backup disk). I assumed it was related to this, but maybe it's TM backup. I usually force quit finder, but maybe your "solution" is better.
