Frozen iphone screen

My iphone screen is frozen, I`ve tried turning it off and on again, charging it up, conecting to itunes for the lastest software, and I`ve tried doing a restore, but as I can`t put my sim pin in (as the screen is frozen) it won`t finish the restore. Any ideas? Or is it completely kaput??

You can do everything but this is a bug in iOS4.1
Many people have this problem. Restoring the iPhone in any way will not fix this problem. You have to contact apple and say that they have a bug in iOS4.1

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

It's not uncommon for it to not work the first time and sometimes, you have to try it a few times. Turn off your antivirus software and your firewall while you are trying to restore the iPad. Enable them again after you restore.
If that still won't work, post back with detailed information as to what exactly does happen as you go through the process.

If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.

My iphone screen has been frozen for about 30 minutes on a grey sceen with a thin white line throught it. I tried to import photos from my phone to my mac. It was working for a while, then it quit and my computer said thre was a error. I looked at my phone and it was frozen. I can't turn it off and my screen does not dim, its just stuck on the grey. I also can'tfind the serial number either. I have imported photos in the past and it has worked. I just don't know what to do or how to fix it .

If your iPhone is unresponsive, try resetting it using this method:
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

See if you can reset it: hold the on/off and home buttons until you see the Apple logo (ignoring the off slider that appears first). I bought my iPhone 3G on 23 April 2009 in Jakarta, Indonesia through its authorized reseller, PT Telkomsel. Unfortunatle just about 2 weeks from that purchase date, I experienced that my iPhone screen was frozen on 6 May 2009. I brought it to local authorized service center in Jakarta and then they just restored to fix the problem. It worked. However, yesterday, on 27 May 2009, it frozen again. I comlained to the service center and they say nothing they can do but to recheck it. I told them that if they restore it once again, how they can assure that it may solve the problem.
In this case, has anybody faced this kind of problem? Any better solution to fix it? Thank you so much for your tips on this issue.

I have the same experience too. I bought it on April at launching event in Jakarta. Yesterday suddenly its frozen, blank monitor, but I still can hear that the phone receiving sms and call which I cant answer or see whats happening inside the screen.
I slept on it last night and this morning I just connect the phone to my laptop, got a message of error connection from my i-tune. not for a while ago I saw the phone works again. How can? I dont know.
So I am going to bring it to the service center when I am in Jakarta. Denpasar doesnt have SC.
Is there anyone can help me with the situation? Please advise....

Thanks for the question. If your iPhone does not respond to a reset, let's troubleshoot to isolate the issue to power/hardware:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
1. Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
2. Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion.
Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
3. Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
4. After at least 15 minutes, if:
               - The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
               - The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
               - Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
5. If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
               - If the display turns on, go to step 4.
               - If the display remains black, go to next step.
6. Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.

Frozen iphone 3g - fix?

my iphone 3g froze today - home screen was blank except for the top bar (at&t logo, time, battery charge) and the screen was completely unresponsive.
following the instructions here (EXCLUDING the full reset) did not help:

so before doing the full reset...i let the charge on the battery run down completely, then connected it to the charger and in due course the iphone rebooted and all is ok.
i see quite a few "frozen iphone" threads here...maybe this will be of help to someone.

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore.
Try all three of these.
