Frozen ipod that is no longer recognized by computer

Help! My I-pod nano is frozen. It has been frozen before, so I did what Apple.com said to do. It is still frozen! So I decided to plug it in to the computer to charge .. and the I-pod is no longer recognized by my computer!
I've tried a million times to unfreeze it, doing what Apple said, but nothing is working! And why is Itunes not recognizing my I-pod?

Hi caitt,
I don't know if "what Apple said to do" means that you tried the 5 R's, but that's a good start:
The 5 R's
From there, try this:
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes on Windows
And this...
iPod won't turn on
Good luck,

  • Condense music on ipod that is no longer in my computer's library

Hi. So, I have had a 60gig ipod for God-knows-how-long now....pre2006 I think.  Anyway, I hadn't realized that music was meant to flow only one way (computer to ipod and not vice versa), so I deleted much of my music library from my computer after transferring to my ipod.  I have TONS of cds on there and have completely filled the ipod.  I was hoping to just convert the larger files to MP3s, but this option in iTunes is greyed out when I have my ipod connected. (Obviously, I am not automatically syncing with my current library).  Two questions:
    1. MOST IMPORTANT: Is there a way to condense music files directly ON the ipod, when songs aren't in my computer's music library anymore?
    2. What is the best option for backing up 60gig or more of music FROM my ipod & other locations & condensing it to the same place/library?
    Thanks for your help!
    erika

An iPod (especially an old one) is a very dangerous place to keep your only copy of song files.  You should not do (1) at all, even if it is possible.  (I can't think of a way to do it directly.)
There is no way to transfer music from iPod to computer using iTunes (except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities for transferring from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer mac," you should get some links.
Once the song files are back on your Mac (and maybe even backed up to a second location), add them to your iTunes library.  Now, you can use the Create AAC Version command in iTunes (menu bar under Advanced) to convert them to a "condensed" format.  Note:  The old files will still be there as well after converting.
In iTunes preferences General tab Import Settings, you can change the conversion options. I recommend using AAC Encoder at iTunes Plus.  That creates 256 kbps AAC files (which is what the iTunes Store uses).  If you want "MP3" files, you can select the MP3 Encoder there.
Then, you can sync your iPod to the converted song files.  And you will have achieved what you wanted with (1), plus your valuable songs files are now backed up on your computer.

  • How can I play my songs from my iPod that are no longer in my computer

When I go to my iPod under devices and click "Music" it shows all the songs I have on my iPod but it's all grayed out and I can not play them from here. Now at first I thought you just couldn't do it but my brother for some reason can... None of his songs are grayed out and they let him play it straight from his ipod.

he is manually managing his ipod song list
where as i am assuming you syncing your music automatically, if you change to manual management you will lose all of your music and have to resync it.

  • 1st gen ipod nano with a frozen screen no longer recognized by computer

I have an ipod nano (1st gen) with a frozen screen that is no longer recognized by any computer.  I had just barely downloaded a new audio book onto it before ejecting from itunes and trying to play it when it froze.  Since then I have tried updating my itunes,  plugging it into a second computer, and turning it off by holding the pause button, but nothing seems to work.  Suggestions? Or, has it just reached the end of its lifespan?

My ipod nano is no longer recognized by itunes after I installed windows 8.1.  The ipod nano still is recognized and works with a Windows 7 computer

    Hello, Pete.
Here is an article I would recommend going through when an iPod is not recognized by iTunes or the computer.
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
Usually the resolution is updating the Apple Mobile Device Driver.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

  • IPod Nano 3G lo longer recognized after Update to iTunes 9 on Vista 32 Ulti

So i updatedt to iTunes 9 yesterday - only to find out that my iPod 3G is no longer recognized by iTunes. Also my 2G are not recognized any longer on this machine
ALL three iPods still work fine with my other computer whicgh is running the same Windows version but has still iTunes 8 installed.
With the IPod service disabled the iPods appear properly as a device - they show their assigned name and you can browse the content.
When the service is enabled and you start iTunes iTunes displays a message that says that it "discoveerd" the iPod but could not identify it
    see heer http://0711.diy-punk.net/WOW/ipodfu.jpg
also as soon as iTunes gets involved the device is no longerreadable under Windows
i tried multiple reboots, restart of iPod service, rebooted the iPod, resetted the iPod - nothing helps...

Yeah... I hope apple solves this problem soon. =\
I use Windows XP instead of Vista...
    This happened to me:
    I plugged my iPod
Oppened the iTunes, iTunes recognized the iPod with all the songs, album covers, playlists, etc.
It asked for update. (Download & Instal, ok)
Finished the update, oppened the iTunes 9.0. Added a new songs but then I realized it didn't recognize the iPod (wich was plugged.)
I checked on "My computer" and I saw "iPod". Ok.
When I ejected the iPod it was clean. No musics, no Videos, no playlists. Started on the screen "Select your language".
I Tried reinstaling the iTunes but whenever I got an older version it said something like "The iTunes can't be started because the iTunes library has been generated by a new version."
    Restarted my PC several times.
    Rebooted the iPod.
    Tried switching USBs.
    NOTHING works.
    Nothing at all.
even tryed the manage thing on "My Computer".
If they don't find a way of fixing this bug my iPod Nano is not better than a f**kin' Pendrive... ~.~"
    Hope apple do something...

    First try this:
    - Go on iTunes computer
    - plug in the iPod
    - authorize your device from store/authorize
    - iPod / transfer from iPod by right clicking on the left pane
This will only transfer iTunes purchased music, not ripped CDs. and it is unnecessary now, as the music can just be downloaded from the cloud.

  • IPOD Classic is no longer recognized by my IBook

My IPod has suddenly stopped being recognized y my computer. It works in my Bose dock. It will not even charge with my computer. I restored the IPod and that worked for one night. Now it isn't recognized at all. I even tried a different cord and it isn't working either. Please help.

    Hey there,
Try manually putting the iPod into [Disk Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363] then reconnecting it to your computer to see if that helps.
Otherwise, I would work through each of the troubleshooting solutions provided in this Apple support document. It is a good place to start.

  • Deleting songs on ipod that playlist no longer exist in itunes

I share the itunes with my son and we use to use the auto sync function. I figured out how to manually sync but deleted my original play list some how in between. Now I have playlist on my ipod that is not in itunes. I can drop song into my play list but I cannot figure out how to delete the song no longer wanted on my ipod since I no longer have playlist in itunes....please help.

If you are updating manually, connect your iPod and when it shows in the iTunes 7 source list click on the chevron (the little triangle) to the left of the iPod icon This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Click on Music and you'll see the traditional song view. Find the files on your iPod that you want to remove, highlight them and either press the delete key on your keyboard or or right click and choose Delete.

  • Authorizing Songs for an Apple Account that is no longer recognized

I have many songs that I've purchased from iTunes that are no longer allowed to play because the user is not authorized by my computer. I am the user but the account is one that expired about three years ago due to my moving and other life-changing events.
How do I authorize songs in iTunes that that I purchased through an Account Name that no longer exists in iTunes or on .Mac?

I'll join you in being stuck here.
In a period of three months, I have purchased two new MBP laptops, moved (losing my cable modem ISP and email address, which was my old Apple ID), and Apple launched MobileMe.
Somewhere in the middle of all that, probably with the MobileMe launch, I changed my Apple ID to my .Mac email address.
Now my 1,000+ purchased tunes cannot be authorized on one of the new computers, since they are locked to my OLD and now defunct Apple ID.
Apple's web site won't let me changed my Apple ID on the "My Info" page:
*You cannot change this Apple ID*
*because it is tied to a MobileMe account*
*and/or an iChat ID. To create a new*
    *Apple ID, please click here.*
Catch 22 here we are... If you see a reply to this thread without the "1" on the end of my name, that'll mean I have my old account back!

  • Is there a way to combine and old Model of ipod that is no longer synced to any of my computers with my new ipod so I can get rid of one?

I have an ipod nano that my friend gave me with music on it from her computer that I have never plugged into mine. I also just got an Ipod touch that is hooked to my laptop. Is there a way to get the music off the nano and into itunes so that i can only have the ipod touch and get rid of the nano. My goal is to purchase a classic ipod that has much more memory and eventually get rif of the touch but first I need to know if I can lose the nano without losing the muic off it. Any insight would help. Thanks

  • Constantly blinking orange light; no longer recognized by computer

I just purchased my shuffle yesterday, connected it to my MAC, charged it (the light turned green), downloaded podcasts from I Tunes and everything seemed fine. I had to leave for a couple of hours and left the Shuffle in the docking station. I came back and the light has been blinking orange ever since (over 24 hours) and the Shuffle is no longer on my computer or recognized as a Device in I Tunes. I tried all the 5 "r's". Any other suggestions - other than taking it back to the store. I would think the product would have a longer life than 36 hours.

I had the blinking orange light happen to my shuffle today when I connected to my XP machine which holds my iTunes.
I tried uninstalling the device, changing the drive letter, changing the USB port it was connected to, the apple reset tool (garbage...). Nothing could get it to connect, I kept getting the message that the iPod was corrupted.
Eventually I took it to my Apple, plugged it in, got it recognized no problem, synced and erased to that iTunes library then did the factory restore.
Took it back to the PC, and was able to re-sync and rebuild the library on the shuffle from there.
So the answer seems to be find a friend with an Apple or take it to your local Apple Store and have them restore the iPod from a Mac.
It's a ghetto fix but I couldn't find any other way to get it to function on my PC

  • IPod with click wheel not recognized by computer and doesn't show up in itunes. Have went through all the suggested tips and its not the cable.

ipod with click wheel not recognized on two separate laptops. Checked the cable and newer ipod shuffle works fine.  Ipod will play already loaded music and play from a dock.  Have went through the 5Rs and still not working. Any help appreciated.

Checked the cable and newer ipod shuffle works fine.
You're not trying to connect the iPod with click wheel using the short USB cable for the iPod shuffle, are you?  If so, that won't work.  The shuffle uses its headphone jack for the data connection.  All other iPods use the dock connector, using a standard docking cable.

  • I have a book on my iphone that is no longer on my computer, how can i delete off my iphone

I have music on my iphone5 that I want to delete and cannot because the file is no longer on my computer (PC), is there anything I can do about this?  It will not play on the iphone, but does show up.

Your post title talks about a book, but the body talks about music.  I will assume you're asking about music.
Open the music app on your iPhone.  Switch to the "Songs" view (on the bottom).  Find the song, and swipe it from left to right.  Then click "delete".
