Frozen/lagging start up screen

I was playing a game on my laptop and later it died. I plugged it in and when I went to turn it on it was just froze. It starts up like the game is starting, but it never loads. I cant get to my regular home screen or anything. Ive taken out the disk and pressed many different things to try and stop it. I turn it off and close it, but when I open it, it automatically turns on to the same screen. But I can still move my mouse around. HELP

My iPod is frozen at the start-up screen logo thing, and it just won't continue to the menu.
I've tried restarting it by holding the select button and the menu button, and it restarts but just ends up at the same frozen screen.

I've actually managed to fix this by unplugging the speakers and turning up the volume for the internal speaker. I found this solution on the following link.

  • Start up screen frozen

My iPhone started to display "No Network" even though my carrier had good enough signal. I decided to restore it, and the problem was corrected until it synced with my last back up. After the sync, the same thing happened; it couldn't find the network again. I restored again, and decided not to sync. Turns out, it couldn't be synced anyway; the "disk cannot be written on" warning popped up.
I decided to erase and reset all settings (from the iPhone). Thought maybe that would work. It went properly until it restarted. The screen froze and it has been frozen or the last hour or so. The start up screen; Apple logo, with the loading wheel, which isn't moving.
I've tried to reset (power + home) it several times already. It turns off and back on, and then just takes me back to the same screen.
When I plug it to my MacBook, it isn't read.
I don't know what to do anymore. Any solution?

I had a similar problem, after a recent update, my itouch was acting up so I went to restore it. After i disconnected- there was no music on my ipod and when i went back to my Mac it was acting slowly so i re-started, after that it's been frozen on startup. I had recently updated to 10.6.2- not sure if that has anything to do w/ it.
I inserted the install disc I recieved when I bought the computer and ran the Utility. It said my volumes didn't match- but had repaired it. However, I still can't get past the start-up screen.
    Any ideas?

My start up screen has frozen when I turned on my MacBook pro

    Hello Sniper756,
I would be concerned too if my MacBook Pro would not power on completely.  I recommend following the steps in this article when experiencing an issue like this:

  • Macbook start up screen frozen

Sometimes when I turn on my computer, the start up screen comes on and then I can't do anything. I cannot move the pointer on my trackpad on my macbook. It's just a frozen screen.
    Why? What can I do?

After you finally get it to reboot, look in the Console logs. They should give all the information you need to at least understand why it froze. I say "should" because the freeze may prevent logging.
Immediately after a freeze and a normal restart, search the logs for the latest entries.
You may also try starting in the Safe mode once to see if that helps.
Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
    Summary
Learn how to start up in Safe Mode.
    Mac OS X 10.2, Mac OS X 10.3, Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6, Lion
To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), do this:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup in Mac OS X v10.4 through Mac OS X v10.6.8, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. During startup in Mac OS X v10.2 through v10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
To leave Safe Mode, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

  • I have zero out all data on my imac, as i brought it second hand and the disk the guy supplied dont seem capatable with my imac to install the operating system again so it is frozen at the grey start up screen. show i buy a new snow leopard disc fromapple

i have zero out all data on my imac, as i brought it second hand and the disk the guy supplied dont seem capatable with my imac to install the operating system again so it is frozen at the grey start up screen. should i buy a new snow leopard disc from apple and install that as my new operating system. please help as had the computer a month now and still cant use it yet.

You can call AppleCare and request a replacement set of the original DVD's that shipped with the computer for a nominal charge. You will need the serial number (look on the bottom of the stand) and a credit card. Click the AppleCare Contact Info link. Without knowing which iMac you have it's very difficult to say if a new SL disc would work or not.

  • My Iphone 4 is frozen on the apple start-up screen

So I was trying to record a video on my Iphone when it started freezing. So I figured that if I were to turn it off then reboot it, it would be fine. So I turned my iphone off and tried turning it back on. It keeps getting stuck on the start-up screen where it is all black with the silver apple logo in the middle. I have tried this several times and also tried turning it off/on by holding down the home and sleep button but that will not work either. Please help!

  • Frozen on Start Up Screen - Please Help (Urgent)

I've had my mac Mini for a little over a year now and have not once had a problem with it. When I came home from work yesterday there had been a powercut and naturally my mac mini had switched off. When i tried to turn it back on it made the chime and went into the start up screen (with the mac logo and the little spinning thing) i was waiting half an hour for it to get off this screen but it did not. When i restarteed the computer i had the same problem, i left it on over night to see if it was just going to take time to load but by this morning nothing had changed (same loading screen on moniter).
I Have tried to reset the PMU (or whatever its called) and i still have the same probelm.
Help desperatly needed as the computer has two years worth of school work and writing on it not to mention music and movies than ive made for my uni course!
    Many thanks in advance
    Henry

OK, so it looks like when the mini crashed, it ended up corrupting the drive directory structure - possibly it was in the middle of a write operation when the power failed.
The good news is that rarely does this cause a hardware fault, so there is like as not, nothing wrong with the system that can't be fixed.
However, the bad news is that without a disk recovery utility, such as DiskWarrior or Tech Tools Pro, neither of which are absolutely certain to work) the only way to get the system back under normal control is to reformat the drive, since this will rewrite the directory structure. And of course reformatting will loose your data. In this situation, simply trying to reinstall MacOS won't work since the system has errors on the drive that will prevent data being safely written. Also, any and all disk write activity risks overwriting your data since the faults generally will indicate that MacOS won't know for sure where your data is, thus make it possible to write over the top of it.
Since iTunes won't allow you to download again, and it appears you don't have any backups, I think you have few options to consider:
1 - buy a copy of DiskWarrior or Tech Tools Pro and try and recover the drive that way. The disadvantages are that this will cost you some money, and there's no certainty it will work, but if it does, the advantage is that you could restore your drive (and thus system) to full operational status with little effort.
2 - get hold of (meaning buy or borrow from someone else) an external firewire drive onto which you can install a copy of MacOS with which to boot your system. Once booted, then use the drive to copy off your files, then once backed up, do an Erase and Install using your original install disk to reformat the hard drive and put back a working copy of MacOS. Once done, you can then copy your files back from the external hard drive.
3 - if you have another Mac available to you, connect your mini to it with a firewire cable and start it up holding the T key to put it into firewire target disk mode. It should then appear on the other Mac's desktop as an external drive and thus allow you to access your files and back them up.
Beware however that if the directory structure on the mini's hard drive is messed up, there is no certainty that you can recover all your data since the data may not be entirely intact, or indeed, in the locations the directory structure tells the system it is in. As a result, the best option from the 3 above is the first - to try and repair the directory using one of those two utilities.

  • Can't get past gray start up screen after failed software update

    Uh-oh. I think I'm in trouble now.
This afternoon I was trying to do a software update on my iBook. After about an hour and a half, there hadn't been any progress, so I figured it had frozen, and forced it to quit. When I tried to start it back up again, it comes up to the gray start up screen, and then just sits there and spins. Here's what I've tried so far:
Safe mode- doesn't work, just sits at gray screen
Using option key- shows my HD, I select it, sits at gray screen
Using OSX installer disk- I'm able to get to disc utility this way. SMART status says verified, ran repair disk and it found no errors. Tried to run repair permissions and it just sat there for about 3 hours with the bar spinning blue and white, but not actually filling up. It wouldn't allow me to stop repair permissions, so I had to force it to stop. I thought about reinstalling, but I don't have enough space on my HD.
So, that's where I am at this point. Now I find out how I've managed to mess things up so completely, and cross my fingers that someone will please, please, please have an answer. Thanks!

I tried to backup my iBook HD using target disc mode, but it wouldn't work. The target computer (G4 running 10.4) would come up to the blue screen with the FireWire logo bouncing around, and would go no further.
I think the problem there is that you need to boot the iBook with the T key held down, not the G4(10.4). What this does is mounts your iBook's drive on the G4. The bouncing FireWire logo should be on your iBook, not your G4. This means that you connect the two machines, hold down the T key on the problem computer to mount the volumes onto the working computer.
There shouldn't be a compatibility problem because it mounts it as an external hard drive (not necessarily a boot volume.)
Will the disc come out of the iBook when there is no longer a FireWire cable connecting to both computers?
    Let me know...

  • I just restarted my phone, and now its frozen on the apple logo screen it shows when it restarts! anyone know how to get it to work?

My phone is frozen on the apple logo screen that shows when restarting. I tried to restart it again, but it still freezes and stays on that screen . I really dont want to reformat! Does anyone have any idea how to fix it?  THANKS!

You have to put it in dfu mode, when its plugged into itunes reset it by holding the home and the power button, when it starts back up let go of the power button and just hold the home button it should find your phone and say its in restore mode. from there you just have to restore it
