  • HELP! FROZEN NANO

hey my nano is frozen, and NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING I do, unsticks it, I have tried sliding the hold button back and forth, and pressing pause for a gazillion seconds, plugging it in to my lap top, pluging it into the wall, updating itunes ( itunes won't even pick it up when the nano is plugged into the USB)..
I am super mega frustrated because I have only had my nano for two freakin weeks, and I tried online chat support, and it wouldn't let me on, so this is my only recourse it seems, unless I just send it away..
has anyone had this happen? and it's been like this for like 24 hours, and the battery power isn't seeming to go down, well I can't tell because the screen is frozen, it's paused in the middle of a song.. won't it just eventually turn off?

    Hi Jennyd,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I am sorry to hear that your iPod Nano is frozen, and that you are unable to fix it. I suggest trying the The Five Rs. If that doesn't work, you might want to drain your iPod Nano's battery completely, and then recharge it till it is full. Usually that will do the trick.
    I hope that helps,
    Jon
PS When you drain your battery, just let it sit over night or something like that. It might take longer, but it should not have anything on the display when it is completely empty

  • Stupid freakin' frozen nano after hard booting computer

I was in the itunes store when my computer froze up. I had to do a hard reboot, but now my nano is frozen. I can't do anything with it, including turn it off. And because it's frozen, the computer won't recognize it.
I reinstalled the newest version of iTunes software, and tried the 5 r's which were useless in this case.

First, make sure that the Hold switch on your iPod isn't turned on. If you've confirmed that your iPod is off hold and it still won't reset, then it's possible that it's suffered a hardware failure. Check here for some tips. If those don't help, you may need to take/send your iPod in for service.
And just as a courtesy request, I understand your frustration, but please don't rant at us. We're just your fellow users here; we didn't make your iPod and aren't responsible for it breaking.
    Good luck.

  • 'Frozen' nano in just a day.

    hi,
This is the same problem what icewind has mentioned in 20th Nov post. After using it just for a single day when I tried to turn it on the next day - guess what? - it was frozen! I've tried everything from hold key, reset to re-installing software (iPod updater) but nothing worked. Buttons work only if I try to reset otherwise everything seems to be frozen!!!
Can anyone(Apple people) tell me if there is any service center in India?
    thanks,
    anurag

My iPod nano is also frozen. When I try to turn it on, it won't. Then, when I plug it into the PC, it freezes in the "on" and "pause" (backlit)state. I cannot turn it off. Nor can I view my iPod in iTunes. Nor can I move it from "pause".
It happened before. The last time it happened (yesterday), I let it run dry of power (no other option) and it worked for a day. This does not seem like a good option -- is it good for the backlight to remain on for that long with only one image on the screen?

  • MY FROZEN NANO!

I went to hook up my ipod to my computer to add some songs and it is now frozen. I unlocked it, tried to turn it off and the screen is frozen on a song, on pause and still says it is locked. Now what?

try reseting it togle the hold switch bach and forth then hold the menu and middle button for 10 sec or until apple logo pops up.

  • Problem with s/w upgrade to 1.0.3 on 3G Nano 8GB

I recently bought 3 Nanos for my children for Christmas. Connected the first to iTunes, which asked if I wanted to upgrade the Nano software to version 1.0.3. I clicked install, and after a couple of optimistic-sounding messages, the Nano got now stuck in some kind of loop - black flashing "no entry" sign and small text "Do not disconnect" on the Nano itself. Not recognised by iTunes. On disconnecting and resetting (menu plus centre button for 6+ seconds), the Nano said I needed to reset by connecting to iTunes. However, this did not work - same optimistic messages but the same end result.
I assumed it was to do with the Nano itself, so tried again with the second Nano. Same result.
I took them both to the Apple store to complain. The managed to reset the Nanos, but only by connecting to a Mac, not a PC, then reformatting on a PC. The man said PCs are useless at solving iPod problems. I am using iTunes 7.5.
With the third, I declined the invitation to upgrade the software. This Nano worked, until the next time I connected to iTunes. It asked if I wanted to upgrade the s/w, and, not thinking, I agreed. This third Nano then froze like the first two.
Any ideas anyone? I'd like to reset the third, frozen Nano without traipsing back to Regent Street in the weeks before Christmas. Would the manual reset and reconnect to iTunes route work if I got rid of 1.0.3 from iTunes? How would I do that?
Many thanks in advance for any help, and apologies if this is a stupid question.

Similar issues. This is my 2nd 4GB iPod this XMas. The first time it is plugged into the USB port it is recognized. Each time I'm asked to Register - both times successful. First time I down loaded all 376 songs with success. Then I was asked to upgrade from 1.0.2 to 1.0.3 - also successful or so I thought. Then I lost connectivity in iTunes and XP. Then iPod froze. I reset using the 6 second reset and then it just flashed on & off.
Took back to store had it replaced. Second iPod - registered OK. I downloaded all 376 songs OK. This time I did not get the message to upgrade to 1.0.2. Great! Ejecyed the iPod .... plugged back in and same problem as before. Not recoginzed - iPod froze - reset & same of & on loop.
This is also a 2nd iPod in the house. Last years model (Gen2)works with no problems - even has the new Gen3 model freezes. I can plug the new G3 iPod in and iTunes won't see it - I can them plug in the old G2 iPod and it is seen immediately. ITS A BUG w/ the new G3. It's not XP, my Toshiba, the USB port, cable or iTunes - it's the G3 iPod.

  • Please help with nano

    Hi,
I just had to reset my sons ipod nano because it would not work. I also restored it to factory settings, twice in fact. Now it starts and stays on the language screen and no matter what I am pushing it doesnt do anything! If you can help me I would really appreciate it, he wants it back and I have no ideas.
    Thanks!

    Anyone?
Ive searched the "frozen" nano section of the forums and I cannot get it to work, it is like the buttons are frozen or something. I did do all updates and still nothing. The only thing that happens is the Apple logo comes on then it goes directly to language and it wont click to anything else.

  • 1st gen ipod nano with a frozen screen no longer recognized by computer

I have an ipod nano (1st gen) with a frozen screen that is no longer recognized by any computer.  I had just barely downloaded a new audio book onto it before ejecting from itunes and trying to play it when it froze.  Since then I have tried updating my itunes,  plugging it into a second computer, and turning it off by holding the pause button, but nothing seems to work.  Suggestions? Or, has it just reached the end of its lifespan?

    Hi caitt,
I don't know if "what Apple said to do" means that you tried the 5 R's, but that's a good start:
    The 5 R's
    From there, try this:
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes on Windows
    And this...
    iPod won't turn on
    Good luck,

  • Ipod Nano frozen, and appears to be crashing my computer when I plug it in

After owning my ipod nano for a whopping two hours, and playing a total of two songs on it, the nano froze. I attempted to select music based on album, hit play, and it froze on that position. It doesnt dim or power down after awhile or anything.
I hooked it up to my machine and tried to start itunes, and it would not start. Later, I started itunes by itself after rebooting the machine. Plugging it in after the fact causes no change on the screen (still frozen) and itunes never acknolwedges that an ipod has been plugged in.
I read the instructions, and know that supposedly, according to the instructions, holding down the mouse wheel for five to ten seconds, or flicking the hold switch will reset the ipod.
    Unfortunately it doesnt.
I'm really, really regretting this purchase. Anybody know what I should do?

To clarify it only crashed my computer once, but did seem to actually prevent itunes from starting.

  • My daughter has tried to charge her ipod nano 6 on an imported italian computer and it has frozen the iPod...unable to do anything on it at all. screen currently says 'OK to disconnect.' No buttons work..HELP :+) ????

My daughter has inadvertantly tried to charge her iPod nano 6 into an imported laptop. It has completely frozen all action.
I have tried to hold - button or main button for suggested 8 seconds to RESET the iPod to no avail. SUGGESTIONS ?? :+)

    Myelo,
Have you tried restting your iPod?
You can do so by toggeling the hold switch back and forth a few times, and then holding the menu and the center button in for 5-10 seconds until you see the Apple logo.
    Kind regards,
    Ms Daisy

  • Ipod Nano, power will come off and on but otherwise is completely frozen,

    Please help!!
I have an ipod nano that is only 3 months old. It has been acting strange. When it first started the clicker wheel wouldn't work and I could reset the nano and it would be good for a single use only. After 2 weeks of that now the only thing it will do is cut on and off. Otherwise, it is completely frozen. I have done all of the things that apple support suggests short of having this chat. Reset doesn't help, I also downloaded all the updates, restarted computer and restored the nano. Still nothing.
    Thanks

If none of those troubleshooting steps helped, it needs service.

  • IPod Nano 5G (16 Gig) has frozen on the Reset Settings Screen

My iPod Nano 5G (16 Gig) has frozen on the Reset Settings Screen after I tried holding the middle button to re-set. I was doing this as a result of the backlight timer not responding. I'm really worried now, even if I plug into an official Apple external USB outlet or my PC nothing is happening - it's just stuck on that screen. Has been like this for about 4 hours now. And iTunes is saying it doesn't recognise the Nano and its not showing as an external drive on my PC.
Though this was bought for my from HMV at Xmas would I still be able to take the Nano to the Apple store as a last resort? Any help would be great, thanks.

Hi I tried this from: Zolved.com +Toggle the Hold switch to on, then back to off (none of the red is showing).+
+Press and hold down the Menu and Select buttons for 10 seconds (until you see the Apple logo) as shown in the picture.+ And it appears to have worked, so am guessing this is the standard way of re-setting the Nano? Thanks

  • How to get Windows 7 to see frozen iPod Nano

    Hi,
After installing Windows 7 on my PC, I installed and updated iTunes then tried to sync to my iPod Nano (5th generation).  I got an error code while doing this, which unfortunately I did not record but is probably irrelevant now anyway.  I then tried to restore the device.  This process also stopped with an error code and now my iPod is frozen.
If I apply power to it, I get a message flashing on every few seconds telling me to restore with iTunes, but the device is not even visible in iTunes.  It is not visible in Wndows Explorer either (not sure if it should be or not).  I have tried reinstalling iTunes with no effect.  If I hard reset the nano (toggle Hold then hold down centre and menu buttons), the following happens: I get a flash of the Apple logo on the nano and iTunes says 'iTunes must check the iPod software update server to identify this device'; I click 'Check'; iTunes says 'iTunes needs to prepare your iPod for recovery.  Please leave your iPod connected.'; I click 'Continue'; iTunes displays 'Preparing iPod for recovery'; this then disappears and nothing else happens on either the iPod or iTunes and the device does not appear.
I have even tried all of the above on a different PC with a fresh install of Windows XP, so it is hard to see how the fault can lie in Windows.  It really does seem that the initial crash while restoring the iPod has left it in a permanently-frozen state.
This was a wedding present and I can't afford to replace it because I am currently unable to work because of health reasons.  Which is a way of saying I am pretty desperate.  So if anyone can help with this, I really would be most grateful.
    Kind wishes, Patrick

    Thank you for the answer.
I tried resetting the iPod with no luck.  I tried reloading the system software from iTunes but this too froze.  I passed the unit on to a friend with a much more modern PC and - even after contacting Apple Technical Support - they could not get it working.  Apple said that the unit needed to be sent into them at a cost of ninety-odd quid.  Needless to say, I was not impressed.
I now have a Sony Walkman hooked up to Media Monkey and am much happier.  Okay, the unit is not quite so flashy, but I never used half the stuff on the nano anyway.  The Walkman has a solid, reliable feel about it, and was a lot cheaper than a new nano.
    Kind wishes, Patrick
