This happened to me aswell, but it happened to me when I plugged it into the PC but same problem. what you have to do is move the 'Hold Switch' to put it on hold and then move it back again and then hold both the 'Menu button' and button in the middle of the click wheel. then it will turn off and then come up with the Apple logo and then it will work fine and you can try again. (P.S: If it doesnt show the Apple logo just try pressing any button

  • Help with the DO NOT DISCONNECT frozen

I had just buy my ipod and I disconnected it by mistake while the sign DO NOT DISCONNECT was flashing. Now when I plug it it doesn't do anything. The Do not disconnect sign is frozen there and I can't reset it. Did I brake it? Is there anything I can do? Thansk you for helping me.

    First, try "resetting" the iPod.
For mine, that means turning Hold on then off, then holding down Menu and Centre buttons together for 6 seconds.
You should then be able to disconnect it.

  • The Do not Disconnect sign and the Disk Mode

Hi. I fully understand the reason for the "Do not disconnect" sign and the disk mode, etc. However there are a couple of things that bug me. I prefer to keep my ipod permanently connected to a power source (USB port). Now, every time there's a USB event (connecting or disconnecting my mobile pone or USB memory) the "Do not disconnect" sign reappears and I have to go into iTunes again and eject the ipod to be able to use it. Why does this happen? Is there a way to avoid it?

If you sync your songs instead of doing it manaully the do not disconnect sign will say ok to disconnect when its done updating.

  • My nano stays on the "Do Not Disconnect" screen...

    Hello,
Recently my 1GB nano has been having problems plugging into my computer. When I plug it in, the "Do Not Disconnect" screen comes up but just freezes there. The computer nor iTunes realizes it's there either. I have to unplug it while the screen is still there and reset it. I know the iPod WORKS, since I play it on the docking station I got for Christmas.
This started happening a while after I got iTunes 7. I figured updating it was the problem, so I went back to 6, but apparently that didn't work either. I'm not sure it's the computer, since my friend's 30GB iPod showed up in Explorer (although apparently it needed iTunes 7 to work, so I'm not 100% positive on it yet).
I've just redownloaded iTunes 7 again, but the problem persists... It's making me really angry because I can't put any new music onto it. If anyone can help I'd be SOOOO grateful. ^_^

Ok, my friend brought over his 30GB again, and he updated it with some stuff I have on my computer. That means it has to be something with my nano, right? It's really confusing me and I want it fixed...
    Someone please help. ;_;

Reset the iPod. (hold down the menu and center button). If that doesn't work, try a restore with the iPod updater.

Delete some apps, files, photos, videos, movies, etc to free up some space.
How much space is your Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • How do I get the do not disconnect to go away?  Yep, I disconnected before I should have

how do I get the DO NOT DISCONNECT message to clear....

If you disconnected before your iPod came back on it could be bricked. Try resetting iPod back to factory settings but back up all your music, photos, files etc to an external or make sure you have them on your Mac before doing so.

  • How long does it take the 'Do Not Disconnect' screen to disappear?

How long does it take the 'Do Not Disconnect' screen to disappear?
I Just got my ipod nano a week ago. I put maybe 10 songs on there and then today, since I had some time, decided to start creating my library. By the time I decided to stop and plug in my nano so it can update, i had like 219 songs that had to be transferred. I watched each song on iTunes go to the ipod like usual and then my list that comes up when you select "__ ipod" is all grayed out like it's still updating. On the top of the iTunes screen, it says ipod update is complete though, and of course, my ipod has been saying do not disconnect for the past hour and a half with the battery fully charged. Does it really take that long for it to finish synching my songs? I mean I know I had a lot of songs to put on there put geez!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Try ejecting your iPod from iTunes. You might want to look at Knowledge Base Document #61685 about The "Do Not Disconnect" Message and Knowledge Base Document #93492 explains How to Safely Disconnect the iPod.

  • Anyone else tired of the "Do Not Disconnect"?

Is it just me or would many of you like myself like to have an ipod update that changes the "Do Not Disconnect" screen to a nice progress bar.
I dont know about you, but I think this would solve a lot of problems. Just think of all of the users disconnecting before the screen even changes. Perhaps if there was a progress bar, users would be able to see an estimation of the time remaining.
This is a Very needed update.

I do not believe that you fully understand what the 'Do Not Disconnect' message means in all cases.
If you use your iPod with Disk Mode Enabled, then the 'Do Not Disconnect' message will be present on the screen even if there is nothing being transferred to it at the time. It will remain on the screen until you manually eject it.
A progress bar would be useless in this regard, since there is no progress to monitor.
The 'Do Not Disconnect' message works perfectly as it is. I do not see any reason to change its behavior.

It then doesnt recognize that it has been ejected and keeps the"do not disconnect" icon on the screen even after unplugging. Is the camera damaged? Could be a hardware problem.
    Try:
Close the Camera app in the multitasking bar, then try again.
Restart/Reset/Restore your iPod. In that order.

  • My ipod classic froze in the 'do not disconnect' screen.

I connected my ipod to my computer, and it showed the do not disconnect screen as it always does, but it froze on that screen.
Itunes is not recognising my ipod, and the ipod is doing nothing, even showing the little lock sign if I lock it.
    What do I do?

Try holding down menu and the center button for a few seconds, until the apple symbol appears. This has always worked for me

It has already been 6 days from your post, my apology for responding so late, but it is my habit to help only the leftovers, which the other contributors missed.
Toggle the hold switch make sure there is no red showing.
To reboot an iPod. (Or RESET in Apple iPod jargon)
Press Menu and Center button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON , this would not erase any data from your iPod.
I would advice you to leave the iPod charging for about 4 hours, if it has been discharged for 1 year or more, and also Apple recommends that you charge the iPod at least once a month, to prevent a discharged battery leakage, which may corrrode the circuitry in the iPod.
Hopefully you don't get the dreaded RED X on the iPod screen.
    Good Luck!
