  • 1st gen ipod nano with a frozen screen no longer recognized by computer

I have an ipod nano (1st gen) with a frozen screen that is no longer recognized by any computer.  I had just barely downloaded a new audio book onto it before ejecting from itunes and trying to play it when it froze.  Since then I have tried updating my itunes,  plugging it into a second computer, and turning it off by holding the pause button, but nothing seems to work.  Suggestions? Or, has it just reached the end of its lifespan?

    Hi caitt,
I don't know if "what Apple said to do" means that you tried the 5 R's, but that's a good start:
    The 5 R's
    From there, try this:
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes on Windows
    And this...
    iPod won't turn on
    Good luck,
    maz

  • Problem with my iPod touch: Frozen screen, unable to access anything as slider does not work, will not accept a full restore.  Apple Store advised that it is a 'hardware' problem and I could trade-in!

I am a relatively 'new' user.  Touch was a gift, I used it in a simplistic way - listened to music took a few photos, added a few calendar events.  After a year I then decided to be more proactive and found a few free apps (Solitaire) - then had a the frozen screen problem which I though was connected to low battery, but it wasn't.  I recharged it, still could not access, then tried a full restore and got an error message.  Took it to a Genius Bar and was told it was a hardware problem and as it is out of warranty  I could trade in or just buy a different product.  As this is my first Apple product is this usual?  Do Apple products have a very short shelf life - I anticipated that it would last me longer than a year!  Has anyone else had this problem?  Was it able to be resolved? Or is it worth trying to get it repaired - and if so who can do it - Apple  Store did not offer that to me as an option?

Sure sounds like a hardware problem. It happens some times. The iPod is just an electrical device.
Apple will exchange it for a refurbished one for this price. Apple does not repair your iPod.

Let the battery fully darain. After charging for an least an hour try a reset and restore. Use Recovery mode if necessary.
If not successful, then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • MacBook Pro Hard Disk Crashed after Frozen Screen

    Hi
Very unpleasant experience with my first MacBook.  My MacBook Pro Book 13'' (late 2010 model) screen froze on start up.  Realised that the battery was low and plugged the power adapter in, and let the frozen screen continue hoping for it to start in a while, only to realise that the entire laptop heated up significantly.  I switchd the laptop off and let it simply recharge.
No luck on restarting after laptop was fully charged despite several attempts and following all instructions on Apple website, including SMC reset.  I took the laptop down to the store and the Genius Bar team informed me that the hard disk had corrupted and they could not retrieve any data.
Wondering if this is a common problem, as I have never had a hard disk failure before and specially surprising as it is relatively new laptop (<1 year) old ? Seems like a technical fault with the laptop prima facie.  Some data was not backed up recently, and now I need to look for a recovery specialist, with costs to bear despite Apple Care.
Any suggestions on recovery specialists in London who do not charge a fortune ?
    Thank a Lot !

its fixed!!  After posting my problem with the FROZEN ipod classic (2007) 80 gb a screen popped up with similar subjects that I did not find in my original search.  'Rich Fleming' in the community posted a suggestion to someone with a similar frozen issue and it WORKED when I tried it.
hold the 'menu' and the 'circle' buttons down at the same time, KEEP the pressed until the apple appears. and now it is working.  Hope this helps others.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • I have frozen screen on ipad mini

got frozen screen on ipad mini

How did this happen?  Was it due to misentry of a passcode, or something else.
If another cause than the passcode, do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider if that appears.

  • IMac 27" frozen screen

just can not identify in what situations, but when my Mac has a frozen screen, I have no other alternative but to push the off button. The most ironic thing is that, clearly the internet connection keeps. I know this because I'm usually listening to online radio. When it occurs, I can not change my dashboard and also can not switch to another application because I can not use the keyboard and the mouse click does not work.
I am currently using Mac OS X Yosemite, but the problem has persisted for several other versions of the system.
    I

I have exactly the same problem with a my 27" iMac of exactly the same vintage and configuration. It freezes this way anywhere between once a day and once a week.
I also see an additional variation of this crash, where when I wake up the machine from sleep, the backlight comes on, but no image is drawn. It glows gray. In the form of the crash that Helton reports, the cursor moves with the mouse, but nothing responds to clicks. I've also seen where streaming (and I believe locally stored iTunes) continue) to play. I am not sure whether the machine remains visible on the network.
I have never used any anti-virus on this machine. In a desperate attempt to isolate the problem I have done the following:
Fresh clean install of Mavericks onto a new, external Firewire 800 drive
After the install, I only re-installed the apps I use frequently: iTunes, Aperture, Chrome, Adobe Flash and Microsoft Remote Desktop, HP printer driver, TextWrangler. That's it.
Replaced 3rd-party memory I had installed with the original factory installed 2x 2GB DIMMs
Blown out the bottom vents and the circular vent in back with canned air
Unplugged the external DVI monitor I was using
Done the usual setting resets via the startup
Ran the built-in memory checker at startup
Ran checks on the harddrives for errors, permission problems, etc...
Wiped the internal drive clean, and did a fresh install on that
    The crashes still occur.
The system does not appear to be hotter than normal. I used to have a widget that monitors temps (but doesn't change fan speeds).
This system has the Seagate 1TB harddrive that was eligible for a recall, but I didn't do it. The drive has never reported any SMART errors.
Since you are still seeing crashes after updating to Yosemite, I'm not sure what to try next, myself. I've considered pulling it apart to make sure there is no dust in the fans. It doesn't seem to be overheating, but despite the sensors, there doesn't seem to be a way to record a regular temperature history to see what the temps were like at the moment of the freeze.
Of course, it's out of warranty. It's five years old, but it's plenty fast enough for me. The screen is still gorgeous. If it weren't for this, I'd use it for at least another two years. I was thinking of getting a MacMini to plug into it and use the iMac as a screen, but the new MacMinis are dual-core. It wouldn't be a nice leap in performance.

  • No screen light Nano 3rd

    No screen light Nano 3rd

    1. Make sure the Hold switch is not operated (i.e. you have it set so that the Red is not showing on the switch.
    2. Press and hold the Centre and Menu buttons at the same time, keep them pressed until the Apple Logo appears on the screen (this can take a while, over 10 secs, so keep them pressed).
That should reset the iPod, if it does not work, then try step 2 again with the Hold switch in the other position.
