Frozen screen when iPod unplugged

I have a generation 2 iPod and it will say it's charged on the computer and then as soon as you unplug it from the computer (properly ejected) the screen will freeze with half the screen showing. Then you can't do anything. I plugged it back into the computer and the do not disconnect sign goes on and you can't press anything. I tried resetting it an nothing happens. the last time I unplugged it trying to make it work, the screen froze and then slowly faded away. I plugged it back into the computer and the 'do not disconnect' comes back on. Very frustrating. This is brand new.

I tried resetting it several times. It says it's charged and works fine when plugged into the computer, but as soon as I remove the usb cable then the screen kind of goes half black and freezes. I tried resetting it from this point, but the screen just slowly fades away and the only way to get anything back on it is to plug it back into the computer.

  • Computer goes to blue screen when ipod plugged in.

I have tried all angles on this and still haven't been able to figure out.  Can somebody please offer some new knowledge?  I have tried some older suggestions awithout resolution.  Here is what is happening using Windows 7/lastest updated itunes and ipod 80g classic:
My ipod was completely erased after trying to update through itunes as i normally do.  Now when i plug ipod into the itunes, it will not be recognized in the left column and after about 3 minutes my entire computer will go to blue screen and reboot itself.  I have tried restoring, checked diagnostics on ipod.  I think I may need some more info on opening itunes in safe mode and beginning from there, however I'm open for any other suggestions/links.  Thank You

First off, have you made sure your Windows OS is up to date with all the latest patches and updates?  Have you also checked with your PC's manufacturer (such as Dell, Toshiba, etc) to make sure you have all the latest drivers, firmware and BIOS installed?
Does the PC ever blue screen when the iPod is NOT connected?

  • My Macbook Pro crashes(Grey Screen) when i unplug my 3G USB Dongle

Not sure if this has happened to anyone else, but just after I installed Yosemite my 3G USB dongle Huawei K4305 Vodafone is not working anymore and when I unplug the dongle my macbook Crashes.
I have installed the latest firmware and software for the dongle.
I have done the hardware diagnostic on the Macbook, everything is working and the dongle is working fine as I tested it another Macbook with Mavericks and it works.
I tried to reinstall Yosemite but my machine just hangs on black screen and won't reboot.
    MacBook Pro 13" 16GB Memory, i7 2.9Ghz 750GB HDD

    HI vojtabe,
What I did was, I uninstalled the Vodafone software completely first, then restarted the mac, then installed the Huawei driver and connected up the USB dongle and did not select to install the software and i just pushed the eject icon in finder and unplugged it, and it never crashed my machine after this.
Don't install the software as currently the Vodafone software only goes up to Mavericks.

  • Frozen screen on iPod

My iPod screen is frozen on a black screen with an arrow in the upper left and the time bar at the bottom at 00:00. It does not show up in the Source panel when connected to iTunes and it will not reset by toggling the Hold button then holding down the Menu button. I'm stumped.
    Thanks,
    Jon

The problem resolved itself. Because the iPod would not respond to any commands, it eventually drained the battery and when I recharged it, everything was fine.

  • White screen when iPod 5G starts up

I updated the software on my iPod today whilst downloading the Mac OS 10.4.4 update/QuickTime update/iTunes update etc... It was working perfectly before I updated it. Now it just starts up with a blank white screen. I've tried resetting it a couple of times, restarting my computer whilst it is connected. I've left it until it powers down again and tried reseting the iPod. I've also tried plugging it into the computer when it's powered down, and my iPod makes a few bleeps before going to a back white screen.
    Any ideas?

I have fixed my iPod blank/black screen problem (i suspect black screen for iPod5G black model, and white screen for the white model) On Black Friday, which was yesterday, after I upgraded the newest releases on QT/iTunes602/osx1044/iPod11, iPod didnt do anything, no mounting to my iBook/iMac/G5PwrMac. Hard reset didnt work, etc.
I decided to fix the iMac permission with local drive DiskUtility, then reboot the iMac with the Original Tiger iMac DVD software restor disc which comes with the desktop then repair the volume with this method. Then I reboot and then I did an extended hardware test with the same disc, but with the Hardware test disk (which is the same as software restore DVD, iinstead of holding down the c key, hold down the option key when reboot with the disc)
After all that, iMac restarted and recognize my 5G iPod 60GB, I quickly restore the whole iPod to manufacture setting, hopefully you have all the info backed up somewhere, I did a clean defractmentation, and then used the iPodUpdater from 11-17-2005 to restore the iPod 1.0 version.
Now I am done and my iPod works like new. Go try it guys... Good luck!

  • Lock icon at bottom of iTunes screen when iPod connected and selected -grey

I'm a longtime Mac and iPod man trying to get ipod working for friend who has Dell laptop and XP.
Have downloaded and installed latest Windows software for both iPod and laptop.
    Problem
iPod is recognised, but I can do very little with it in iTunes. Items get greyed out, iPod screen often returns to internal menus (that is appears as if iPod is disconnected) and strangest of all (for me ) is that a lock icon appears at bottom of iTunes screen in line where iPod capacity is shown. Have reset iPod, restarted computer, iTunes etc. no change.
Here's the thing - same problem when connected to my iMac G5!
    Any suggestions welcome.

Got my answer from nice chap with a Windows machine!
It was because iPod was in autosync mode which I have never used myself since I have way too much stuff in iTunes.

  • Grey screen when ipod connected on startup and shutdown

when i start or shutdown my ti-book 500 with my new nanopod connected, i always get a grey screen and a command prompt with a bit of help text telling me what to type to proceed. if i type mac-boot, the screen will go blue and things go as normal. if i type shut-down it will do so.
why is this so? it is not really a problem, but a curiosity and a hassle. i always have to remember to disconnect my nanopod when i want to shut my mac down. if i don;t, it restarts (with chimes) and goes to the grey screen.
can anyone explain this? can it be remedied?

Hi, drgreg. I can't explain it, though I suspect that at least at startup, it may have to do with necessary drivers not having been loaded before the OS discovers that a device is connected. Whether something different comes into play at shutdown time, I don't know.
But I heartily recommend that, having discovered what you need to do to make things work normally, you bow gracefully to necessity and get into the habit of doing it. That habit may spare you a great deal of grief in the form of corrupted iPod and/or hard drive directories, which can lead to data loss and cripple your computer at inopportune times.

  • Frozen screen when downloading

    Hi
I was trying to download a theme for my daughters phone and the screen has frozen saying "please wait". Now I can't get off it to cancel or buy another app. I have closed the phone down. I don't want to have to reboot her phone again as she loses stuff on it
    Can anyone help. It's a curve 9320
    Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Sorry, but you're going to need to clarify..."closed the phone down"??? Exactly what is that, please? Depending on what that is, you may already have forced a reboot.
But, that concerns me more...you say she loses stuff...a reboot should never cause that, and doing so would indicate to me much greater problems. I do hope she is practicing good backup procedures...for I fear she is headed for disaster and total data loss if not...you can find procedures for that in my auto-sig on this post.
So, anyway, I actually do recommend a reboot...into Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see if the theme got installed...if so, remove it. If not, attempt to reboot into normal mode and see how things are.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Frozen Screen When Creating a Shared Review

I am trying to create a shared review through a network folder, however, it freezes with the following message box: "Status: Creating shared folder location...". This is the first time this has happened, as I have been able to create a shared review many times before using the same network folder. Can anybody help me with this issue? Thanks in advance.

I am trying to create a shared review from an Adobe 9 pdf, however, it freezes with the following message box: "Status: Creating shared folder on acrobat.com". This is the first time I have tried using Acrobat.com to share and collaborate on documents.  When I click "next" from the initial Shared Review screen my understanding is that I should be prompted for my username and password for Acrobat.com but I do not get that prompt.  "Authenticating Adobe ID..." and "Communicating with Acrobat.com..." messages flash on the scren and then the Shared Review dailog screen that asks for "Delivery Method, To: CC:, etc." comes up. I fill in the fields and then it attempts to connect but never makes the connection and returns the above message and I hit the retry button but it never completes.  Can anybody help me with this issue? Thanks in advance.

  • Videos Transfer, but no show when iPod unplugged

I have some videos that I have made iPod ready using Quicktime Pro,for example the entire first season of Venture Brothers or home movies. When I put them onto my ipod, they show up on the ipod in iTunes, yet when I detach from the computer, I can't find them at all on the ipod. In the case of the Venture Brothers, half of them showed up in the "Movies" section, not in a subcatagory in the TV SHOWS section as I had anticipated. So :
    1. Where are my videos?
    2. Why are only half of some showing up at all?
Update : I Restored the software, and now one is showing up that wasnt before, but only when it's in the Movies catagory, not any others ?????

Apple doesn't allow you to categorize movies as TV Shows and transfer them to the iPod, but it will work in iTunes. If you realy can't live without them being categorized as TV Shows there is a program called AtomicParsely.

  • Frozen screen when waking

Since I updated to 10.10 Yosemite I find it impossible to unlock my Mac after Sleep mode: I can wake the screen ando move the mouse pointer but it never shows me the unlock screen.

I am having the same issue with my Late 2012 27" iMac. Its very frustrating every time I wake my Mac up it just goes to a black screen and cannot get to my desktop. I have tried turning off requiring a passcode, resetting PRAM, fixing permissions in disk utility, and restarting multiple times. This has to be a major bug with Yosemite never before have I had this issue.

  • Blue screen when unplugging phone charger from USB

My HTC Droid incredible 2 causes windows 7 crash (blue screen) when I unplug charger cable from desktop USB port.  It does not matter whether I have unplugged the phone from charger BEFORE unplugging the charger cable from the USB port.  Has anyone else had this issue & resolved it?

On your lower right hand corner is an icon that is used to disconnect your usb devices safely.
simply click on it then select the device you want to remove, the computer will say "Device is safe to remove" then unplug the usb cable from the computer.
Additionally try another usb port on your computer and see if that corrects the problem.
Another thing to do is before you hook the phone up again do a system shut down and restart. Then plug in the phone. This may load your usb drivers correctly or the system will repair them.
    Good Luck

Will not shut off, will not charge... pretty frustrated, I updated it recently (within the last 10 days....Has anyone had similar experience? If so was it fixed? Please post any help for me... thank you... I am pretty frustrated right now.

its fixed!!  After posting my problem with the FROZEN ipod classic (2007) 80 gb a screen popped up with similar subjects that I did not find in my original search.  'Rich Fleming' in the community posted a suggestion to someone with a similar frozen issue and it WORKED when I tried it.
hold the 'menu' and the 'circle' buttons down at the same time, KEEP the pressed until the apple appears. and now it is working.  Hope this helps others.

  • Syncing my iPod Classic freezes iTunes 11.  When I unplug it, iTunes "unfreezes" and is fine again.  iPod never syncs.

Alright, so I downloaded iTunes 11 when it was released.  I used it with no problems until last night, syncing it every night to update my playlists.
Well, last night I plugged in my iPod to let it sync and it seemed to be taking longer than usual.  It was stuck on the "Connecting" screen.  I went to go watch TV, ended up falling asleep, and got up a couple of hours later to shut down my computer and go to bed.  My iPod had finished syncing, but I noticed that in iTunes it said something along the lines of "Welcome to your new iPod!"  I thought that was strange since I've had it for a few years, but since I was tired, I just ignored it, shut down my computer, and went to bed.
In the morning, I picked up my iPod only to notice that it was completely wiped clean.  No music, no videos, no photos:  Nothing.  The actual software seemed to be working fine, it was just empty.  I turned on my computer again and plugged in my iPod to hopefully restore a few playlists before I had to endure the car-ride to work with no music.  Since last night whenever I plug my iPod in, iTunes freezes.  My iPod starts switching between "Connecting" and Connected" every couple of minutes, but since iTunes is frozen, it never goes anywhere.  The weird thing is that when I unplug my iPod from my computer (not something I usually do), iTunes "unfreezes" and resumes normal working order.  That part puzzles me.  So far, I have tried restarting my iPod a few times and reinstalling iTunes and neither one has worked.  I don't really know what to do, but I rely on my iPod quite a bit so this is a pretty big issue for me.  Anybody out there have any ideas?
Oh, my my iPod is an 80 gig 5th Generation, if that makes any difference.

I just fixed my own problem with this.  Go into the Summary page of the ipod and look at Options.  I unchecked the box that said Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC.  It then started to work!
