Frozen song on iPhone 4- cannot play or be removed

I downloaded a new song from iTunes, and then synced it to my iPhone 4. The iPhone will not play the song, and the song that doesn't play cannot be removed from the iPhone 4 either. If I try re-syncing it again to the iPhone, it still does nt play- it is frozen.
(However the song does play fine on my computer in iTunes, just does not play at all on iPhone).

I realize this question is 8 months old; but I just had the exact same expeience, and I found a simple solution that may either help you, or help others who are having our same issue (song plays in iTunes on computer, but not on iPhone--even after resetting the phone, updating everything (iOS latest version, iTunes latest version) and re-synching/restoring from backup).
Whichever song doesn't play on your phone, simply go to the iTunes app on your iPhone (the pink "store" one, not the orange "player" one) and go through the process of "buying" the track again:
Search/[track name]/Click "$1.29" or whatever/ Click "Buy Now"/ [enter your password]
At this point, the Store will see that you've already purchased the track, and it will prompt you with "You Have Already Purchased This Song. To download it again for free, click Download." (Usually takes about 5-10 seconds for this dialog box to pop up).
Answer this prompt by clicking the "Download" button at its bottom, and you're good to go!
One more thing: the first time I listened to any Playlist in which my re-downloaded-for-free song appeared, I found that some of the songs were mis-labeled on my screen. For example, one song would play, but another song's album art and name would be displayed. To cure this, I manually track-advanced through the entire playlist one time. After that, everything was back to normal...

Really strange problem you have there. I have a few questions though.
Please try again and try to make the phone as a new without restoringen with you iCloud-data or backup-data from iTunes. Maybe it is something wrong with the data (strange).
Anyway, i think you should call Apple Support or visit an Apple Store, don't forgot to make a Genius Bar reservation.

HT4527 songs on iPhone will not play after iTunes update

I updated my Itunes software and sync my phone to Itunes and now I am not able to play about 200 songs on my Music app. I tried to resync but still run into the same problem and now those songs are greyed out in my library in Itunes. How can I get my songs back? They still show on my iphone.

I think I figured this out last night..
It looks like iTunes changes the way that tracks are grouped together. I noticed that I would always get the first track on an album, but the rest would be greyed out.
I went into iTunes, selected the entire album, and checked all the boxes around sort grouping rules, but left the contents blank. I could then sync everything for that album.
I've even gone so far as to select my entire library, check all the boxes for sort grouping rules, and now I don't have the problem at all.

I also have a Zyxel VMG1312-B10A set up to use VDSL on my ISP's FTTC service. (i'm in the UK)
i swapped this out from a BT Openreach VDSL modem and a Technicolor 582n
weirdly (and i've yet to still work out where the problem is exactly...) my iPad mini running iOS 7.1 (the latest version my ipad can download i think) and i cannot stream anything. Youtube, BBC iPlayer, ITV player all cannot stream. weirdly in the apps i can do all searching for clips fine, but when it comes to playing it i seem to get the spinning icon in the middle then the message "playback error".
i even try streaming youtube via safari and chrome but i get similar problems, the stream doesn't even begin to play.
i cant say for how netflix or other premium streaming services because i don't use them.
my HTC smartphone and blackberry smartphone stream from youtube and iplayer in the web and on my desktop.
i swap back to my openreach/technicolor setup and the ipad is suddenly able to stream fine.
obviously by going back to my previous setup it proves that there is no apparent issue with the ipad, but at the same time with the zyxel installed, it stops the ipad from streaming but other devices don't seem to be affected. it must be some kind of bug specific to this router and my ipad.

I'm sorry if this is a repeated question. But suddenly about 95% of my songs on iphone 3gs have turned into grey color and it cannot be played, either from iphone itself or from itunes in laptop under iphone device. It also happened to my ipad. All albums are transferred but they appear to be grey. 5% of the songs are still black and can be played alright. I'm so frustrated!! I did try everything. It's that way because that's the way Apple designed it.
I just merely wish to listen to them using itunes and my pc headphones while it charges the unit.
You can still connect headphones to the iPhone and listen while your PC changes the iPhone. Until Apple changes things, that's it.

Cannot play song bought on itunes on iPhone 4

Having 2 problems with my iphone4:
1: cannot play songs I bought on itunes, when trying it simply goes one "step" back returning to list of bought music
2: when peoble are trying to call me, it always appears busy, even if im not on the phone

When I checked my purchase history in my profile the songs I downloaded in 2006 do not show. When the box opens for me to authorize the songs my aol ID is pre-selected. When I use my aol password it says to create an apple ID. I want to contact the itunes store to restore my purchases to my profile. This may solve my problem. I don't think that I should have to buy them again.

In one of the help pages for managing your Apple ID (http://support.apple.com/kb/HE40), it shows two separate sections, one for Apple ID and one for Primary Email address. When I go to manage my Apple ID, I see only a single section for both. Can the two be 'separated', especially when you face the situation of having to discontinue your email address for some reason?
I also noticed that when navigating to Apple ID Support Communities, it shows my nickname 'dishdy'. How and when did I insert this? In the current sequence for creating an Apple ID I don't see this. In my current profile I don't see this.
In any case, I have freed myself from my previous Apple ID (@artemis.it) on my iPhone.

Can't play songs on iPhone

I can play most of my songs on the iPhone, but there are certain ones that will not. It will show the album art work, go through the motions of playing, but there is no sound and then it will skip to the next song after about 5 seconds. These same songs play perfectly fine on itunes. I've removed song from itunes and added again, synched, same thing. Looking through previous discussions, it was recommended to reset the iPhone (hold down top button and circular button until I see the Apple symbol), but that has been done multiple times to no avail.
I was previously using a computer with Windows XP(no problems), but now am using one with Vista. Not sure if the OS is the issue as I would be having problems with more than just a handful of songs. The only common denominator is that they were obtained through Limewire, but all other similar files play fine. Also, all the songs I cannot play have been able to play fine on the iPhone until recently when I noticed it.
Any suggestions???

Welcome to the forums.
Easiest way to solve this is to convert the troublesome songs to AAC -- select them all in iTunes, right click, and choose "Convert to AAC". Then sync only these songs (the AAC ones).

Deselect Sync Music under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync which will remove all music from your iPhone.
Follow this by re-selecting Sync Music making your selections below followed by another sync.

Cannot play music from Iphone on iTunes

This is the setup:
I have a home PC that I use to sync / buy content on my Iphone. When I come to work, I have none of this data on the PC, but I want to play the content of my Iphone through my PC.
When I click on the iphone triangle and click music, the content is all grey and I cannot play (or double click to play).
How can I play this music on my Itunes?

I've had this problem for ages. You've inspired me to find a fix and I appear to have found one.
I manually sync my iphone at home (computer A) and I wanted to play songs on Computer B at work. The songs were all greyed out on Computer B.
Now, to get around this I have selected "Manually manage music and videos" from the sync options in iTunes.
I have no other options selected for sync options as I do actually want to manually manage music rather than sync it.
Now, when I click on "Music" from within itTunes --> iPhone it is no longer greyed and is playable through Computer A and Computer B.
Think that made sense, if not let me know

'cannot play' music downloaded to iPhone 4s

I downloaded songs to my iPhone 4s and went well. I downloaded some more and they had a little button beside them in the Songs List. I tapped the song title and a window came up saying "Cannot Play then Connect to a Wi-Fi network to play. You can enable cellular playback in Settings." I tapped the 'button' beside the song title and the song DISAPPEARED! It only does this on some songs I downloaded the other day. All other songs are playable on my phone. Why?

I have songs on my iPhone. I hook it up to my work computer and open iTunes. All the songs are grayed out and I cannot play them, even though my work computer is one of my authorized computers. I use my home computer to sync things up. Why can I not simply play music on my phone through iTunes no matter what computer I'm on??

hard drives will always crash, and you should ALWAYS keep a backup. it's surprising how many people still don't know this little fact about computers, and then they do nothing by cry when all of their data is gone.
let this be a lesson from here on out - ALWAYS KEEP A BACKUP OF YOUR DATA. the easiest way is to use an external hard drive.
there are apps that will allow you to get your music off of the iPhone, but they are not supported by apple.
and just because you think it's stupid does not mean it is done to annoy you. it was most likely done as an agreement with the music industry, but since no one here officially works at apple, we don't know the actual reasons.
