Frozen Syncing

I have Outlook Express on my computer. Initially when I set up my iPhone and synced, my contact list went into my IPhone. Subsequently each time I have tried to Sync my iPhone, it came up with an error message about not being able to Sync my Contacts. Now when I try to Sync - I plug in the iPhone and it iTunes just gets stuck on "Syncing Contacts" - i have left it on over night and no amount of time allows it to move past this point. As a result i cannot complete a Sync and download music or transfer purchases made on the iPhone to the iTunes library. Any suggestions very welcome as I am out of ideas.

Hello roaminggnome,
I’ve seen your posts with regard to syncing and you seem very knowledgeable. I'm hoping you might be able to help me.
Here’s my problem: My home PC crashed. I was able to get the system back up, but I had to reformat the hard drive to get it going and consequently lost all software. After resurrecting my system, I reinstalled iTunes and tried to sync my iPhone with the system. My hope was that iTunes would recognize that there had been a previous “relationship” with this particular phone and PC and a sync back to the PC would be allowed.
I understand the security features in place to prevent this type of “backwards syncing” but under my circumstances, where there has been no change in hardware, is there any way to make the software recognize the previous relationship between these two systems and allow me to sync everything from my iPhone back to the PC?
Thanks in advance for your valuable time and input.

  • Ipod touch, Freezing while syncing.

everytime i connect my ipod it syncs my music and pictures fine, but when it starts to sync my apps it syncs about 3 apps. Then my ipod freezes while syncing, forcing me to restore my ipod from recovery mode. When i say it freezes, i mean that my ipod has the "Sync In Progress" screen, with the battery in the center, and on the bottom of the screen the "Slide To Cancel Sync" on the slider. normaly the slider is always flashing highlighting a few letters at a time, across the screen, saying "Slide To Cancel" When it freezes the slider stops flashing/scrolling and then a little spinning wheel starts to spin in the center of my ipod, on the battery logo. After about, 30 seconds the wheel stops spinning, my itunes freezes up, and my iPod touch freezes up. as soon as i disconect my frozen ipod, my itunes works again. then my ipod is stuck on the frozen "sync in progress" screen. i then have to do the long recovery/restore. Then i decided change my settings from automatic syncing to selecting what i sync. I synced my music, fine. I synced my Pictures, fine. i then decided to sync one app at a time. I first synced solitaire, fine. Then i synced sextuple, fine. Then i synced Super Monkey Ball, my ipod froze!!! So I thought that mabye thats what was freezing up my ipod. then i had to restore my ipod, again. and start the whole process over again. I synced sextuple, fine. Then i Synced super monkey ball, again, and it synced fine. then i synced solitaire, worked fine. then i synced Cube Runner, My ipod froze again. on a totaly different app. i had to restore from recovery mode again, and i synced my music, pictures, super monkey ball, solitaire, and sextuple. then i decided, i will just keep my ipod away from a computer so it won't happen again. so i have 23 apps, and i only have three on my ipod. i really want to keep trying to fix this, but i don't want to have to do a restore, and then have to resync all of my music/pictures again. I really want to know whats up with my ipod. PLEASE, IF ANYONE CAN HELP, PLEASE DO SO. I WILL BE TOTALY GREATFUL. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

I have been having the same problem too. i was sick and tired of it so the i brought it to an apple store and basically just told me stuff i already know, then 2 days later it started happening again. So i went to the apple store yet again, different guy same nonsense, "let me check your battery" "let me see if you memory has problems" "don't have too many applications running at the same time" on and on.. all that happened is that they restored it and said it should work... well clearly i go home to sync it, everything freezes, i go back they give me a new one... yet here i am 3 days later still having the problems even with a new ipod. i reinstalled itunes like 6 times, restored my ipod 4 times... so basically everyone is having the same problem... i guess we just gotta wait til apple realizes that they have a big problem to fix and does something for us

  • IPod Crashed During Sync And Now Its Dead...

    Hi guys,
While syncing my other ipod touch to my computer, i don't know how it happened, but the ipod crashed, and then froze. iTunes said the sync had completed, but the ipod still displayed a frozen 'sync in progress screen'. I hard reset it because it was the only thing that i could do. Now, all that is displayed is an apple logo, however, it does show up in itunes.
Is a restore required? Please advise...

I fixed it. Yay for me.

  • Is it dead?

    Greetings everyone,
I am experiencing several problems with my 160GB iPod.
    In order they are...
1.) Sync-freezes= In either iTunes or manually the sync speed will start off transferring at a normal rate, but will begin to slow to a crawl if A.- the file size is really large or B.- multiple syncs are done within a short amount of time from one another. Until the sync wheel just stops spinning (sometimes accompanied by the typical error message dialog boxes after a few minutes and sometimes not). This causes me to terminate iTunes and manually stop/eject the iPod (or just reset the computer as a kill-all).
This will lead to (and has started to cause on other, random ocassions)
2.) Reset screen after ejection= Eject the iPod via iTunes or manually elsewhere, see the "Safe to eject" screen appear on the iPod, and have it replaced by the reset screen (and its a toss up as to whether the main menu will read like it has been reset or will show up under your settings).
3.) iTunes (on mac) unable to restore= I suspect this has to do with an issue related to problem 1, but the entire restore will go okay until the last leg of the process (after the iPod is temp ejected and is about to give you the screen where you name your iPod). Then it will just lock up displaying "Syncing iPod" and showing a frozen sync screen on the iPod. I was able to get around this problem by switching over to my Windows 7 partition (either via Parallels Desktop or at startup boot) and doing a restore there.
4.) iTunes/iPod recognition conflict= Reset iPod and use iTunes one time, eject, time passes, reconnect, and iTunes & computer pop up an error message saying that the iPod wasn't recognized (needs to be scanned/fixed or restored, etc.). Reset again, and the process repeats itself. This is now happening on both OSX & Win 7.
I've followed the five R's, have a fully charged battery, and I just updated iTunes to the latest version a few hours ago. Have been skimming over the past threads here (and elsewhere for the 1st problem), but haven't spotted anything that's been able to really resolve my issues. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Donnie.

I had this happen to me before and had to upgrade/reload the firmware. Before you go out and buy a new router it is worht a try to go to the website and download and install the formware. Can you get into the routers web interface at all? Also you can try holding the reset button in form like 20 seconds before shutting off the power to the router and thet turn the power back on while holding the reset button in for an additional 20 seconds or so. That is a hard reset and may clear whatever is out of wack. If not it may be time for a new router. That's just my 2 cents.

  • Anyone else having this problem?

  • Apple TV freezing iTunes

So I got an Apple TV and now when I try to download the TV shows and sync up with iTunes. When I do this, iTunes freezes up with the rotating lag icon. Also the music will stop after the song is over. It is now stuck at Copying 1 of 18.
Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Ok sorry I will try to start over.
I purchased an Apple TV, and after fighting with the router in my apt, I finally connected it.
When I started up the ATV I accessed my iTunes account and signed up on the TV end. I also was able to connect to the music and podcast part of my iTunes.
All the while doing this I was never prompted to enter a code on my computer and I have even registerd my ATV through iTunes on my computer.
A couple of nights ago I purchased a season of TV through the ATV while watching Television. At 1st a couple of the episodes transfered over to my iTunes to be viewed. Yesturday I tried to Sync my iTunes and Apple TV, and it will freeze up saying (1 of 18 Copied) and the progress bar does not move.
Every time I try to Sync it will say something along the lines of a Firewall and port 3689 to be opened. Now when I go to System Pref>Sharing there is not a Firewall option, nor is there an iTunes option to click on to open this up.
I have opened up my computer to accept everything and allow everything. This is the 1st time I have had a problem like this, in all the years using a Mac, nothing has frozen/synced this poorly.
I hope that is a more detailed explination, please let me know if you have any questions. I am about to call Apple.
Also is there a way to reset the ATV to be like it is coming out of the box, maybe I can start over and just eat the cost of the purchased episodes.

its fixed!!  After posting my problem with the FROZEN ipod classic (2007) 80 gb a screen popped up with similar subjects that I did not find in my original search.  'Rich Fleming' in the community posted a suggestion to someone with a similar frozen issue and it WORKED when I tried it.
hold the 'menu' and the 'circle' buttons down at the same time, KEEP the pressed until the apple appears. and now it is working.  Hope this helps others.

  • I am trying to sync my iphone and it has frozen with the itunes symbol on my phone?

I am trying to sync my iphone and it looks like it has crashed and the itunes symbol is frozen on my screen, I have tried to switch off my phone but it will not work, anyone help?

Your getting that error because one or more of the files you are trying to sync cannot be found. You need to make sure your iTunes library is in fact accessible. This error is common with folks that store their library or parts of their library on an external drive,

Since migrating from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and upgrading to iTunes 11, the latter has frozen while syncing my devices, usually while at the “determining apps to sync” stage of the process.  If I am attempting to download app updates before attempting to sync, the problem normally occurs at the first “installing app x” stage.  In addition, the whole iTunes experience is extremely sluggish and will even freeze while searching for a track.  Everything worked fine on Windows 7.  So far, I have repaired the program several times and have checked for compatibility issues, but there is no Windows 8 option in the combo box, obtained after right-clicking the icon and selecting Properties/Compatibility.  As a result, I am unable to sync my devices. If I uninstall iTunes before re-installing, will this affect my iTunes libraries?  Does anyone have any suggestions?

After going by elimination to isolate if the problem was from (1) iTunes app, (2) my computer or (3) my old iPhone 4G, I figured out what my problem was.
    1) First I deleted & reinstalled iTunes on my Windows PC without succes, my playlist did not changed on my iPhone.
    2) I tested a successful #sync from the iMac at work.
So my conclusion is: The hard drive on my Windows PC is full and that is affecting iTunes SYNC functionalities.
So I'll do a back-up then run a "Clean Install" of my Windows OS, hoping that it will fix my SYNC problems.

  • HT201412 My computer is frozen with my iPod plugged in trying to sync. How can I eject it safely?

My computer is frozen and my iPod is plugged in, trying to sync. I can't eject my iPod with a frozen laptop. Any suggestions on how to unplug it without losing all my music?

All you can do is force close iTunes, disconnect the iPod, reboot the computer and see is you can sync or if a restore is required.

  • I have an ipad mini and it is completely frozen and has not synced for over 12 weeks  error message says Icloud Backup  This ipad hasn't been backed up in 15 weeks. Backups happen when this ipad is plugged in, locked, and connected to wi-fi

I was given an ipad mini for Christmas.  It has twice frozen completely up.  It is also not backing up or syncing with my other devices.  The prompt on the screen states:
    icloud backup
this ipad hasn't been backed up in 15 weeks.  Backups happen when this ipad is plugged in, locked, and connected to wi-fi.
then there is an OK bar underneath
anyone experience this and if so how do I reboot?
    Gigi

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

I'm an applications developer and also run a part-time videography business. As such, I require more than 3.12GB of RAM. That is the physical limitation of a 32bit system. Pointless to stay on 32bit if you plan on having more than that much RAM.
I'm also not about to pay someone to fix my PC when I can do it myself. I was originally hoping for someone who had experienced the problem before to point me in the right direction so I didn't have to spend so much time trying to figure out what the issue was for myself.
Basically, in the end the problem was caused because right at the point in time when I chose to uninstall, and reinstall; Apple released a new version of iTunes. This version in turn had a requirement of iOS 4.2 to sync with the iPhone. This is a pretty embarrassing for Apple that they would release software reliant on other software before said software was released.
Had I realised I was downloading a newer version at the initial point of installation, this wouldn't have been an issue. I could've easily have rolled back iTunes to the previous version and gotten on with my life.
Another issue is that iTunes is not actually a 64 bit application. It masquerades as one to allow installation on the 64 bit platform.
