Frozen when view on external video monitor HELP

Hi everyone, I have just finished my biggest project in 3 months. Thankx for all your helps & I love the MULTICAM feature very much.
Now i'm on the second project. This project was shot on DigiBeta PAL.
To make it short: does anyone has a frozen picture as they play it out to the external video monitor for the uncompress 10bit file?
3months ago when I digitized in as uncompress 10bit , fcp play out to external monitor FINE, including the multicam feature.
However, since I need to work with 10cam at the same time, I have to capture in as DV (my source was DVCAM) so fcp can play all 10cam in multiclip mode. everything went perfect.
TOday, I capture my sources both NTSC & PAL, they can only play in the mac monitor but not the external video monitor. feeding out to external monitor make the clips freeze. the picture is frozen but the audio still playing.
My drives are fast enough since we had been working with these MEDEA drives for years.
thank you so much.

thankx for all your helps but I had tried all those before I post the question. I'm no newbie. It must be FCP's bug. I trashed the pref & select 8bit instead of 10bit for viewing, & it play ok for single clip. On multiclip, it shutter alittle bit. Maybe I need to reinstall fcp. Don't know yet.
thankx

  • External Video Monitor with iMac possible.

    Dear friends,
recently i have bought one imac 21.5" mid 2010 model. i am a film maker. i make TVC s, corporate docu, docu and short films. previously i worked hiring differnt post production studios but with growing volume of work i there was need for a personal edit setup. i have FC Studio 7 installed in my imav. i wanted to connect one external video monitor to facilitate the edit work flow. 1st i bought and connected a mini dp to vga adaptor and connected my 6 series samsung lcd tv with it. but the result was not satisfactory. now the lcd tv have become the second monitor and the system was working as dual monitor system. i wanted 1 video monitor as we get in pro studios. then i bought 1 mini dp to HDMI adapotor and connected it with the lcd tv throgh HDMI cable. fantastic. system took it automatically. Now i opened FCP, set a/v display to full screen, audio out to HDMI then view>external video>full frame. and u are through. now yuo can see the time line output in the LCD tv with sync audio. cheers. any better way to calibrate the second monitor?

Thanks a lot for your help.
If i consider an old model, maybe one with a DisplayPort input (late 2009 or mid 2010 iMac), is there a chance to connect the card with the DP input with a simple cable, or to verify the compatibility? The card has a DP output but many articles say that screen flickering or blue screen is the result...

  • Setting Up an External Video Monitor

    Hello All,
Fairly well versed amateur here, but still with large gaps of knowledge, as you will see. I have been working on projects that were exclusively intended to be presented on the web, but I had someone ask me to produce a commercial that will be aired on local tv. So in making my best effort towards this I want to be able to use an external video monitor to insure that the commercial looks good on tv (color correction, etc). I use Final Cut to edit on my iMac. Everything I have read says to connect my computer via Firewire to a camera or deck, then connect the camera/deck to the monitor, however my iMac has only one Firewire port and I am using that for my scratch disk. So...anyone have a suggestion to overcome this?
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Marc

Firewire out to a TV only works if you are editing DV.
Having said that, firewire devices do daisy chain.
This is how to set it up on the assumption that your hard drive has two firewire ports -
    • Connect your camera or dedicated DV to Analog converter via firewire to the hard drive
    • Connect a TV to your DV>Analog converter
    • Set up the camera or DV>Analog converter to take the DV input and output an analog signal. (read your camera manual if you've never done this before)
    • Set up FCE to play the video out via firewire
    Several caveats -
Unless your TV is a calibrated broadcast quality monitor, you will be guessing at colors.
You need to look at the scopes to make sure your whites and vibrant colors are within spec (ask the station for their spec sheet)
If this is public access, they have a pretty wide lattitude. If this a standard broadcast channel, the spot may get kicked back to you if it doesn't meet their more tightly controlled limits. If that's the case, you may need to find someone nearby who has an understanding of what constitutes a broadcast standard to help you.
    Good luck.

  • External video monitor not supported?

I started to use color APP just recent and soon found out that Color does not support live preview to my external video monitor via Firewire, I have 2 devices to choose, DSR11 or a DAC 10 ( DV Converter ), firewire to Component.
I hope that Apple resolve this issue fairly quick, many color users like me that don't have an IO card like AJ Kona or Decklink, color will be useless without an external video monitor for color correction.
    Any input will be appreciated.
    Sigi

Because of the reduced colorspace required for DV, I'd wager it's unlikely that Color will ever be made to go out via FireWire to a DV deck or DAC.
Decklink Intensity - $249 or $399? is a potential alternative...

  • Enable External Video Monitoring

I'm trying to output from the time line via fire wire to an external DVD recorder.
According to the info I have, I'm supposed to "enable external video monitoring."
How do I do that? Where is it in the FCE menu?

Are you sure you DVD recorder will accept input from an editing program. Most of the firewire enabled consumer ones I know of will only work with material dubbed directly from a DV tape camera.

If your temps are back to normal then the only thing that I would do is to completely uninstall the Avast software. See Thomas Reed's excellent Mac Malware Guide and pay particular attention to the "Do I need a/v software" section. 99% of the time, you don't and Mr. Reed only suggests the use of two av apps.

  • External Video Monitor Not an Option for Simulator

In the preferences pane for simulator Playback Output options, I am only able to simulate in the simulator window. It doesn't even give me the option to select any external video devices, even when plugged in (and detectable by other programs like FCP). I've even reinstalled DVD Studio Pro 4.02 and it hasn't solved the problem. Help anyone?

    Hey, Aldershot. Glad it helped.
it still baffles me that with almost all the other so called Pro Apps manage to have broadcast monitor support
The problem is that Apple is really innovating with OpenGL, and this bring a lot of benefits but also some inconveniences. Notice that Motion's frame rate falls to half when you enable video out with a Decklink, AJA or even Firewire DV. And in DVD SP you have this limitation. Looks like routing the signal from AGP to PCI is the problem.
But going out through s-video!!!! yeah lets just through all our hard work out the window.
Please don't take this as I pretenend to know it all, but you know what? IMHO, Super video is really underrated. It's much closer to Component than it is to Composite. For a lot of professionals, myself included,it wouldn't be that easy to tell Y/C appart from Component, while the difference from either to Composite is gigantic
We need to view this in true RGB space.
Actually, it is RGB What it probably isn't is YUV. But it is probably more reliable as a preview than Firewire DV, for the reasons I explained in the previous message.
I know is a compromise solution. For me, the worst part is that you either loose a second computer display or have to buy a new AGP card with a separate Super video output.
    All the best.

  • Viewing on external NTSC monitor

Here is my setup, I have a Dual 2.7 GHz G5 with a X800XT 256 MB video card with ADC and DVI outs. I had an older card in there with 2 DVI's connectors and one of them had a DVI to Video Adapter to the NTSC and all was fine.
When I got the new video card I had to plug the LCD into the DVI connector and I installed an older ATI Radeon PCI card to runt he NTSC monitor. Not sure what model the the older card is but it does have an svideo out and DVI out. I have tried with the NTSC monitor plugged into the DVI connector with the DVI to Video adapter and plugged directly into the svideo out. Plugged into the DVI and adaptor the video is distorted and unusable plugged in directly to the Svideo port the video works fine but I can't get Final Cut or anything else to recognize it as the NTSC video out device.
My thought is that either the PCI card I have is too old for the Apps to recognize it, or that the Apps with only work with the primary AGP graphics Card.
Has anyone else had this problem? and is there an easy solution?
I have a ADC to DVI adaptor on order to give my new video card dual DVI outputs hopping that will fix the issue.
    thanks
    Ken

Easy solution...don't do this. Route the signal thru your deck or camera:
    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • External Video Monitoring-In HDV

How I view my HD fotage in an external monitor for editing?
According (Help menu in FCP New features) in FCP "You can now output to external video interfaces whose settings don’t match those of
your sequence. Here are some examples of some of the possibilities:....." and the list begins.
Ive tried a few suggestion from the list no luck.
If you know what info Im missing or where I need to go for the answer, thanks
Im editing with FCP 6.0.5 Sony camcorder HYR Z7U

To view HD you need a third party card/external box to do the real time conversion to play on an external monitor.
AJA, Blackmagic and Matrox all make products that will work with FCP. They range in cost from under $300 to over $3000. Just depends on your computer and the features you need.
Oh, and you need a monitor as well.

  • External video monitor kills wifi network link under Windows 7

I have a 2010 15 inch Macbook Pro; when I plug in the external monitor with the display port under Mac OS Lion, I have no problem getting access to my wireless local network or any network.  When I switch to Windows 7 thorugh bootcamp, I can get access without plugging in the external video cable.  I plug the external monitor, it kills my airport card and no access to the wifi.  I have remove the external monitor to gain access to the wireless network.  Windows 7 is up-to-date and the same thing for bootcamp.  Also I have a Star-tech dvi usb switch.
So what gives?  Star-tech dvi switich or it a Microsoft Windows 7 issue

Maybe this will help. Notice the bullet addressing external monitors. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1365

  • When viewing full screen video in netflix watch instantly, the picture freezes while the audio continues streaming

When watching full screen video in firefox the picture freezes and the audio continues streaming. I had at first thought this was limited to netflix but now see the same problem when viewing flash video sites. Once the picture freezes the computer has to be rebooted. This only happens in firefox. Explorer streams perfectly in fullscreen. The problem began after updating to firefox 3.6 as I had no problems prior to that.

  • External Video Monitor shows still picture but won't play

I have a sony minidv deck for external device control and a sony trinitron monitor. I am using FCP 6.0 and a imac intel core. It had been working fine, but now I can't get a playback. The monitor only shows the most recent still image of what was played. i'v replaced the firewire cord so that's not it. The deck palys dv tapes on the monitor fine. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Shane's Stock Answer #8: External Monitor Viewing
If you are working with DV, this is simple. First connect your computer to a camera or deck via firewire, Then connect the camera/deck to your TV/Monitor via RCA or S-Video.
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Go to the View Menu, choose > External video > all frames
VIEW>Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
VIEW>Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section.
If you are working with HDV footage, FCP 6 allows you to view this via firewire, but ONLY as downconverted DV. It won't look the best, but you can see it. To do this,
If you need to view any format other than DV at full resolution, then you need to look into capture cards. Several standard definition and high definition models are available from www.aja.com and www.decklink.com. With these options you'll need a proper monitor to view full broadcast colors, but all models allow for realtime standard definition downconvert, allowing you to view HD on an SD monitor.
The Matrox MXO is another option that is output only, but allows you to view your footage on an Apple Cinema Display at full broadcast quality.

  • How can I view on external NTSC monitor in PRCS6?

NOTE: I've aksed this quesion before on this forum and followed the kind suggestions given, however, I have not yet been successful. Note that I can view my timeline on my external broadcast monitor just fine in FCP .. anyone??

    Hi Steven,
    Thanks for jumping in.
I cannot find "Enable Transmit" anywhere under any menu ... just for clarity, I have CS6, not PRCC.
As a side note - not sure why this should be an issue at all, and why it is not readily explained by Adobe ... there does not seem to be any aswers anywhere from Adobe, or online also for that matter. Seriousely, anyone who's an editor is going to want to view their work in an extenral NTSC monitor, and not on the computer display ...
    Many thanks
