Frustrated Beginner

I am new to IPAD and am using model MC989LL/A and version 7.0.4 (11B554a). When I initially set up, I misspelled my email address. Then I entered the correct address and I am getting email traffic OK. But sometimes when I want to sign up for Icloud it brings up the misspelled account and then it will not do anything without a password. Every password I enter is wrong and I'm afraid that it will lock me out after a certain number of tries.
Can I delete the bad account and how?
Should I reset and erase all contents - if so that also requires a password I cannot seem to remember.
I am very frustrated. I cannot download any Apps or access most things.
Are there any suggestions for me to try?

Hi Romoyo, As JB says, the Appleworks folder should be in your applications folder, in Finder. Click on the Appleworks folder, then double click on the application itself (at the top of that folder), ignoring the subsidiary folders beneath that. Once it is open, you have the choice of word processing, spreadsheet, drawing, database, painting & presentation. You can then have any, or all, of these options open at the same time.
You are quite right about the eraser not working in 'drawing', that, along with several other tools in the bottom half of the tools frame, only works in 'painting'. (Don't ask me why, there are apparently other ways of erasing...)
Explore the 'Help' menu (in the menu bar at the top of your screen, to assist you in whatever you want to do, and play around with it. Like all applications, one has to learn how to use them to best advantage.
Again as JB says, to keep any application accessible, drag it into the dock from the apps folder. Or, once it is open in the dock, click & hold on it and you will have the option to 'Keep in Dock', amongst others. You haven't moved the app by doing this, merely created a 'shortcut', or 'alias' in Applespeak. If later, you decide that you don't want any app in the dock any more, simply drag it off the dock and it will disappear in a puff of smoke. The app will still be in your apps folder, though.

Lightroom 5.0 on Windows 7 - Photo Caption problem in Book Module

Using Lightroom 5.0 on Windows 7, I have produced a 76 page book in the Book Module with multiple photos on most pages, but two photos were not showing their captions, and did not print same in a proof PDF print run. I had the photo captions in the Meta Data, but have subsequently entered the pertinent photo caption via Custom Text from the left control panel, and also directly into the photo caption print box without success. I have changed the photo size, without a successful outcome, but when I did an auto cell fill of the photo the caption appeared within the photo, but disappeared when sizing was reduced back. I have exhausted all help avenues at this stage.

I don't understand why this a problem. You are removing a page from the book and adding back again. You are not removing the photo from the catalog, therefore you would not loose you are adjustments. Books are just another way of rendering photos.

Syncronize not visible in Desktop Manager 5.0 on Windows 7

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate (registered version, not beta), My Blackberry Bold is runnning v4.6.0.167 (Platform 4.0.0.217) and I've upgraded to DM 5.0.
Here's the problem ... I'm not able to Synchronize. This is a new post b/c it's not that the DM doesn't see the device -- it's here and the PIN is present. However, the button for Sync is simply MISSING.
Here's the actions I've taken
1) uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled v. 4.7 (without success of recovering "Sync button").
2) completed a soft, double soft, then hard reset of the device, nothing,
3) completed a MASTER reset of the device -- still no Sync
4) restored from back-up ... but still, neither the DM 5.0 and DM 4.7have the SYNC option on the main page.
What am I missing? Help appreciated!

Behavior-open browser window

I am trying the first time to bring up a larger image in a
new br. window (onClick). The page is at

1) although I specify window dimensions it opens a bigger
window
2) the image is not centered in the window
3) when a second onClick opens a new window with a new
picture, the first doesn't stay on the top of the page but it is
minimized
4) while the picture is minimized (and disappears off the
screen) the onClick doesn't work on the same image (I tried _self,
_top, etc. it doesn't make a difference)
5) how can I add a title to the image in the new window

Help! Applying Effects to Titles

Hi there,
Why can't I successfully apply effects to titles (black background/white letters) without the title going bright white after rendering??? In preview mode everything looks great. I reopen file and try again, but it never works.
Any amount of advice would help this frustrated beginner. Thanks!!!!!!!!

I have a iMac G5, and so far the following effects have had this problem: rain, fog, letterbox. I did however get letterbox to work in a previous project I worked on a few months ago. But can't get them to work since.
I'm using iMovie 5.0.2 (oops am I in the wrong discussion room?)

Email Viewing Options

Apple has gotten a bit out of hand. Long ago it was truly intuitive. Ease of Use got lost in layers upon layers of marketing and convoluted navigation logic. I will continue venting in the Feedback section - if I can ever get back there.
All I want to know is this: When I open email, new messages are designated with bullets. Is there a way to turn the bullets off?
Also, is it best to let the battery discharge completely or not? I read the section on battery maintenance and I think the answer is supposed to be "no," but I am unsure since it was ambiguous.

It was ambiguous because it doesn't matter. There are some people who obsesses over their battery cycle counts and CPU temperatures. Then there are those who just use their computers for what they need to do and don't worry about it. Guess which ones are happier.

I was making some progress and feeling good after much frustration and then suddenly I got lost in this deep dark black hole in outerspace.
1. I have managed to totally mess up all these boxes, frames, panels and cannot figure out how to get back to any resemblance of order. Totally lost in space. How to get back to earth?
2. And, my video went from running smoothly, to a jerky motion after making various adjustments.
3. And, somewhere, in the effects, color adjustments, I inserted a 1 second delay in the part that says something about smooth an image or something and I can't find where I was and I want to reset that back to zero. I wonder if that is causing this jerky delay? But, I also noticed it before.
4. This is the most complicated program I've evern used. I wish they made a beginner's area where I could quickly get into it and make a quick video without getting so lost and frustrated in this massive program.
Can anyone relate to beginner's frustration?

On 2 clips,
First clip has FX, Opacity:Opacity
Audio clip with this has FX, Volume Level.
2nd clip has on video portion, Brightness and Contrast: Contrast.
On audio portion has Panner: Balance: Level.
The clip is running rough, jerky.
The fade in and fade out is rough, jerky.

Beginner date frustration

I'm new to Java and am just going through some basic exercises with the Date object. Consider the following method of an invoice object:

     }The intent is to add 30 days to the invoice date and return that as a due date. Upon printing the invoice date along with the due date however, I was surprised to see that the due date was given as 30 days before the invoice date, not after. With a little experimenting I found that if I added 1 day instead of 30, I'd get one day ahead. So increasing that time span, it seems that I can add anything up to 24 days worth of milliseconds to the current date and it will return the correct date. As soon as I go to 25 days however, it suddenly subtracts 25 days from the current date. I totally confused! Can someone offer some insight as to what's going wrong?

Beginner Illustrator issues dealing with dividing shape- frustrated?

Ok, so I'm trying to learn how to use Illustrator for specifically fashion.
I'm following this book to learn the basics and i'm going through each step.
I made this basic shaped dress, added a neckline with a dashed line..then moved on to make a straight line at the waist. We are then told to marquee over a piece of the dress and the path line we just made for the waist..and then divide.
Once you divide, the fill box should have a question mark, it says. After that we can ungroup and the top of the dress and bottom should separate.
Well it doesn't and it's really irritating me. The pathline for the waist blends in with the fill color of the dress so it turns from a black thin line to blending in with the pink dress. [The book, at this step, has the waist line still as black].
Then when i try to ungroup...ungroup option doesn't show. It just says 'group'. So basically when i try to move the dress in hopes that it still divided, the dress moves and the only thing that remains is the neckline that i mentioned previously.
=\ I don't understand why my pathline blends in with the fill color of the dress. [even when i change the view to outline vs preview it doesn't even show up. only the outline of the dress and the neckline. its as if the pathline for the waist just erased]. I also don't understand why an ungroup option doesn't appear. uggh.

A comparison:
I just tried with 5 target rectangles, some of them crossing one another, and an open cutting path crossing them. With Object>Path>Divide Objects Below I got 10/40 ungrouped rectangles as expected, without their messing with one another. With Pathfinder>Divide I got (in this case) 18/100 grouped rectangles, everything being cut to pieces.
Correspondingly, with a sixth cutting rectangle I got 15/60 ungrouped rectangles, and 29/144 grouped ones.
As it appears, if you only want the top object to cut anything, Pathfinder will make a mess.
Two other comparisons:
A rectangle and an open path that cuts into it from one side: One 7 point path in both cases.
A rectangle and an open path that cuts through it: Two 4 point paths, ungrouped/grouped.
As mentionned earlier, in all cases, only the cutting path needs to be selected with Object>Path>Divide.
There may be some difference in behaviour, depending on her age/maturity.

For the beginner: Make a DVD from DV

KEYWORDS:

PURPOSE:
Provide a condensed procedure to help the beginner easily convert his/her mini-DV camcorder video into a highest quality DVD using FCP, Compressor and DVDStudioPro.
BACKGROUND:
I was frustrated beyond words with the quality of video coming out of a standard, no-bells/whistles vanilla DVD produced by FCP/Compressor/DVDStudioPro. I knew it was a user error and not a problem with the software. After days of research and headache and thousands of discussions on the subject I was finally successful in producing a DVD that I was proud of.
PROCEDURE:
1) Capture your video using FCP. I use Capture Now feature. My capture settings were 'FireWire NTSC' and 'DV NTSC 48kHz'
2) Edit your sequence to your likings. Don't forget to add chapter markers!
3) Verify Field Dominance is 'Lower (Even)' - most DV camcorders use this setting. HD uses Upper. Check your device manual to be sure. This can be done by selecting the sequence and right-click -> settings. My settings were framesize 720x480, Aspect ratio 'NTSC DV (3:2), Pixel AR 'NTSC CCIR 601/DV 720x480', Field Dominance 'Lower (Even)', Compressor 'DV/DVCPRO-NTSC' Quality 100%, left audio as-is.
4) Using the 'group selection tool', select all elements in your timeline from start to end.
5) In top menu choose 'effects' -> 'video filters' -> 'video' -> 'de-interlace'
6) Export using 'QuickTime Movie', 'current settings' 'audio and video' 'chapter markers' 'deselect Recompress' 'select Make Movie self contained'
7) Open this output with compressor.
8) In settings window, drill down to 'apple' -> 'DVD' -> 'DVD: Best Quality 90 min'. Notice the Field Dominance is in AUTO. This is never good from what I've read and experienced. So, click on the 'duplicate selected setting' and this creates a 'custom' preset.
9) Modify your custom preset video format for Aspect ration 4:3 and field dominance of 'Progressive'.
10) Save preset
11) Drag your new custom video preset to your asset
12) Drag the existing Dolby Digital Prof 2.0 audio preset to your asset
13) Submit. You can view progress by clicking 'Batch Monitor' then selecting the computer doing the work. This should create m2v and ac3 files
14) Using DVDStudioPro, import your m2v and ac3 files
15) Build your DVD menus
16) Viola! Non streaky, non choppy, perfect DVD that would make your Mom proud!
THEORY/LESSONS LEARNED:
1) Several discussions imply you could run into problems choosing 'export using compressor' within FCP. That is why it is recommended you 'export with Quicktime' first.

Gary is not wrong, de-interlacing should not be a requisite for creating a good looking DVD from your NTSC DV edits. That you are seeing choppy results due to field order issues suggests that something is awry in your workflow, that de-interlacing fixes it seems to confirm this. If you outline the specific steps you were taking before, that produced the choppy result, with the same clarity with which you describe your current workflow, then someone might be able to spot the problem.
All that said and done, I'm a strictly PAL HD broadcast kind of guy, I don't do NTSC or DVD so I can't really claim any first hand authority on the matter.
What happens if you simply export your movie from the FCP timeline using Export > Quicktime Movie and then drop that directly into DVDSP and/or iDVD and/or Toast?

Frustrating Javascript Warning Messages in DW CS3 with Spry

Sometime after using Spry in Dreamweaver CS3, I began seeing
the following message:
"A script in file c:\[filepath]\Adobe Dreamweaver
CS3\configuration\shared\spry\designTime\EditingUtils.js has been
running for a long time. Do you want to continue?"
This is very frustrating because Dreamweaver stops responding
and acts like it is about to crash.
If I select 'Yes' the program stops responding again until
the notice reappears. If I select 'No' the file I have opened does
open. But the message continues to be displayed periodically,
especially whenever I try to do a refresh.
Will appreciate any help on this!

I get that also when using Spry Tabbed panels, but the pages
I am working
with are huge .. a set of 5 tabbed panels with two nested
sets of 5 panels
in two of the five first level panels. That's not the page
referenced
either .. though that is the message.
However, when I click "yes" it continues to respond and
finishes .. the
opposite of what you are describing. I was about to ask if
there is a
preference that can be set to make this timeout longer. I
agree that it is
annoying.

Wireless connectivity FRUSTRATION!!

Ok, so I followed the beginners install guide to get a clean base install of arch. When i went to ping google as it said to, I got the unresolved host error. I referred myself to the wireless network setup guide. This is what I did starting from "Configure the System" in the beginners guide, concerning networking stuff.
under rc.conf I changed my hostname to Hostname="MisbARCH"
I had an additional lo="lo 127.0.0.1" entry that wasn't in the beginner's guide exampl, I left it alone.
I commented out the original eth0=" 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255" and added eth0="dhcp" (this was later changed to wlan0=dhcp after i got the rt2500 drivers installed and wlan popped up inder iwconfig, and upon network start in boot it said 'eth0 no such network device recgonized)
under interfaces I left it alone, but again, I had the additional interface lo interfaces=(lo eth0).
I commented out gateway="default gateway 192.168.0.1" as it said to since I was using DHCP.
under /etc/hosts I changed the listing to read:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost MisbARCH
I know it's kind of silly but I wasn't sure if localhost/localdomain were place holders for info I was supposed to enter, I had no values for those to put in, so I left it alone.
This was when the guide told me to ping, and I returned unresolved host. went to the wireless setup guide.
did hwdetect --show-net and it gave back:
mac80211 rt2500 eeprom93cxb rt2500pci rt2X00pci rt2X00lib rt2X00pci cfg 80211
From my ubuntu install, I know the ralink rt2500 works for my linksys card. so then I:
pacman -S wireless tools
it gave back current local invalid using default C local, up to date, want to install anyways, blah blah, yes yes. Then:
pacman -S rt2500
gave back same as above, installed.
iwconfig and ifconfig -a showed my wlan0
then under rc.conf I set wlan0="dhcp" and INTERFACES=(lo wlan0)
under conf.d/wireless I set
wlan_wlan0="wlan0 essid longhorns key 1234567890" (used the real key ofcourse, not passphrase i presume) and WLAN_INTERFACES=(wlan0)
on boot, when it says starting network, it just times out. I've tried disabling WEP on my router and deleting the "key 1234567890" portion of the wlan_wlan0= value, no fix. what am I doing wrong? I know you guys prob want iwconfig and ifconfig-a and other code outputs, but this is on a seperate desktop with obviously no internet access, so let me know what you need to help me in terms of out put and i'll do it the old fashion way, careful writing down and typing.
what the hell is 'lo' anyways? should i be disabling that. I just want it to work, the arch install was going so smoothly..
EDIT: I removed lo=... and removed lo from INTERFACES=...
I tried uncommenting the gateway line and defining it as 192.168.1.1, no go. I removed ! from the ROUTES= line, it took a bit longer to time out, but i got a fail on a process called SIOCD something on boot and shut down, figured that was the wrong direction. Tried removing the key 1234567890 portion and disabled WEP on my router, no go. The hardware is detected. The driver is there. The light on my pci adaptor flashes indicating transmission when its trying to connect to network. What am i doing wrong? Does it have nothing to do with the conf.d/wireless and rc.conf files? Could it be something else? should i run network daemon in the background (@network), should i change certain settings on my router? Did I do something stupid that's case-sensetive related? My key is only 10 digits long as its basic 64 bit wep, I have checked it 50 gazillion times. I want to do it this way (using non roaming access) because it said its recommended for comps that only connect to 1 network. this desktop is rarely used and never moved, and this SEEMED like the simplest manner to get it working. I'm afraid with net profiles i have more room for error and will *()$*)# more *$(#* up. SO FRUSTRATING!!!
The router is set to channel 8, basic key, I type in the key instead of using the s:wirelesspassword thing because I'm not even sure what that is, the only thing i can think of is my timezone set on ARCH doesnt match the routers because I couldnt find the file containing time zones when i was setting up arch under /usr/share/zoneinfo.. just didnt exist on my fresh install with all packages selected..but i doubt that has anything to do with it.. sigh. Does the key have to be in quotes? I dont even think its that im connected to the router and being denied internet access.. i never show up as a client on the router and i cant ping anyone else on the network or the router itself either.

Photoshop CS4 Beginner Tutorials

Hi,
I am very frustrated because I cannot seem to find a very "beginner" type Photoshop tutorial. I am still not understanding how to work in layers (don't laugh, c'mon!). I have a photo that I need to remove the background from and I cannot figure out how to do it--create the mask, etc. It appears to be only one layer, locked, and so I cannot separate anything.
Can anyone recommend a free, online beginner tutorial where I can learn how to do that? Thanks much!

To elaborate on ir8idiot’s post:
• Make a layer of the image (if it is the Background Layer double-click it)
• Add a Layer Mask (third icon from the left at the Layers Panel bottom)
• Use any paint or selection tool (brushes, magic wand, lasso, …) to signify the unwanted regions in the Mask by painting or filling selections with black (or white to make visible again) – note that the Mask and not the Layer is active, so the double contour should be on the Mask’s symbol
• Shift Clicking will disable the Mask, alt-clicking will make the Mask alone visible

What happens when you enter your Adobe ID tied to your subscription?

I want to Sync my iPhone 4 to iTunes however I get an error message from iTunes each time I connect the phone to the PC saying that I should restore to factory settings. Frustrating because it's already annoying enough that I can't drag and drop mp3's!!!

I have never been so frustrated before in my life with any phone. I find it obnoxious as it is that I cannot simply drag and drop files (especially MP3's) straight from my PC directly into my phone, which I have been used to doing up until now. Everyone who convinced me to get the iPhone has instructed me that my frustration can be fixed by downloading iTunes and syncing it all up via that program (which I have never used before). So, I downloaded the program successfully, however when I connect the iPhone 4 to the PC and iTunes is open, I get an error message that 'iTunes cannot read the content of the iPhone "iPhone" and that I should go to the Preferences tab of the iPhone and select 'restore' to restore this phone to factory settings. First of all, I don't understand why I need to do that. I have already downloaded apps and other important things in the 2 days that I have the phone. I am also scared that it will erase my contacts. This is such a headache. Music is very imporatant to me, but I am getting so frustrated that I don't have freedom over the phone which I thought was supposed to be one of the best out there. I would really appreciate help in this matter. I am sure the phone is great but I am on the verge of taking it back and getting something else.

If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:
