Frustrated Bob:

Two years ago with Photoshop Elements 9 I had problems adding music to my Photoshop slide show.  Learned to convert my music to MP3 files.  That worked until
about 3 months ago.  Bought Photoshop Elements 12 so that age of my product could not be an issue.  Same problem.  The following error message comes up:
"The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the required compresser/decompresser (codec) installed."
I have no idea what the message is saying.  I have not changed my system.  I have Windows 7.

You should find it in the artboard options. Click the artboard icon in the toolbar then in the top tool bar click the option icon.

  • IPad Mini Locked & iTunes version problems

My daughter got an iPad Mini for her recent birthday. I also received an iPhone 5 for mine (happy days). My PC is an 8 year old iMac. We have two problems:
*My daughter entered a pass code to her Mini, forgot it and has now locked herself out after too many attempts to remember it (shes 11). All recommended solutions involve using iTunes
    * My iPhone 5 will not back up to the version of iTunes that is on the PC, nor will my daughters Mini saying it needs a newer version of iTunes (10.7 or later).
Despite several attempts, my PC refuses to download/support any newer versions of iTunes rendering the stored half of my music/video library redundant and not being able to restore my daughters iPad mini. My questions are:
    1. Do I have to purchase a whole new PC just to support our new Apple products??
    2. How do we unlock my daughters iPad mini if the PC doesnt recognise it
    Yours in frustration
    Bob

I assume you are running Windows XP?
Make sure Windows is up to date. iTunes 11.0.4 requires XP to be on at least Service Pack 2 (most current is Service Pack 3).
To check go to Start > Right-Click on My Computer > Properties > General
If you aren't  uop to date, here is a link to XP SP3: Download the Windows XP Service Pack 3 package now
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08 -1E1555D4F3D4Once you have the current SP, run Windows Update to make sure you are current
After Windows XP is up to date, download and install iTunes 11.0.4 from here:
    iTunes 11.0.4
Upgrading iTunes will not compromise your content.

  • HT2292 I recently got a new ipod touch and the new one will not connect to itunes.  I've done all the troubleshooting and now I'm just plain frustrated.  With the new update my old ipod froze and best buy gave me a new one. What to do?

My ipod recenly froze with the last update.  bestbuy gave me a replacement.  the new one will not connect to the computer or itunes.  i followed all the instructions and - nothing.  It's frustrating enough as i lost all my notes and work, but now I can't connect to sync with itunes.  i don't get it.  i'm not a supertech so i don't know what to do. help!!!!!!

Thanks, Bob!  You are correct.  And, we learned this as we spoke with APPLE TECH SUPPORT by phone on Christmas day (800-APL-CARE).  One of their reps spent the time to help us troubleshoot this, but the boiled down conclusion is your answer, and to repeat for the benefit of others, here is what worked:
    1. With our Belkin router set to "out-of-the-box" WEP 64 bit security, we could not get wireless access of any kind.  Only with the Security Mode set to DISABLED, could we gain access.
    2. Changing the router's security mode setting to "WPA/WPA-2...." and entering a new min. 8 char passphrase, and then entering that same passphrase into the IPOD Touch, and restarting the router, did the trick!
Based on this, and some info found in another posting, I can only conclude that the IPODs and IPHONES do not support WEP security mode in many generic routers used by thousands of consumers.  Hopefully, those same consumers can figure out how to change their wireless router setttings to WPA/WPA-2 security mode and ALSO get all their other wireless devices (PCs, laptops, WII boxes, ROKU boxes) all reconfigured to WPA mode, too.
I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT APPLE NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH WEP COMPATIBILITY and it may also be the case that MOST CONSUMERS ARE USING WEP 64 BIT security on their home wireless routers?
In any case, it's working now, so anyone who is having problems should try changing to WPA mode and post back here if it worked for them!

  • Documentation frustration

    Dear Apple:
FWIW, I started with computers when main frames had 48K of memory, the terminals said "TeleType" on them, and the modem ran at 58 baud. So on this subject I know where of I speak.
I'm new to the Mac world. Getting started on them has been more frustraiting than all get out because of the assumptions you have written into the documentation.
As I type this, I'm working on a brand new MacBookPro, but it's taken me 5 hours to get to this place. But let's start at the begining: So I plug it in, turn it on, and up comes the intro. I don't have time for this so I look for the single most used button on the internet, the "skip intro" button . . . . Nope, not there.
So the useless animation is finished and now it goes into the log in and basic set up system. All is fine and dandy until I get to the set up the wireless page. It won't proceed unless you have the password to login to the wireless network. Great, but I don't have it and don't need it. So how do I get past this to get to the OS, I hit the "Help" button right? Yeah, right. No help button. The guy on the phone tells me just sign into this website, the help files are here. Uh huh. Ever heard of "Catch 22"? I can't get the help until I get past that page and I can't get past the page until I get help.
Finally he figures out to get me back not one page, but two pages and tell the computer that I don't want wireless. Now that's not true, I merely want to not set it up at this time, but that wasn't an option and there was no explanations.
Now on to installing applications. All goes fine and dandy for anything that puts an Icon onthe bar at the bottom of the screen. But among the things that make Mac's useful to me (and is paramount to our being able to buy them for our company) is that they now will run the the Windows program that makes me my income under Bootcamp.
The docs for BootCamp make some really big assumptions, assumptions I see all over the computer world, and especially in Apples docs. And we all know what assumptions make of us.
I'm following the docs, I've done the install, and now I'm l looking for the Icon to actually start BootCamp Assistant. After a bunch of searching and trying different things flailing around in the dark, I finally find it under "accessories". Nowhere in the docs does it tell where to find the Icon to start the program. However, the icons for the install program are left hanging on the desktop after the install . . . This scene of frustrations goes on and on, with the tech support guys being trained very well on the programs that come installed, but have no way of looking up something useful on any but the core products.
Come on, the company needs to give them access to the rest of the info needed to do their jobs. They are smart enough and nice enough and have a willingness to help that is wonderful. Give them the tools and keep them in the loop. That will reward the company, the tech support people, and especially us users.
Here is the revelation that a guy that started with a mainframe when he was 8 years old and now has 47 years of dealing with computers has to impart:
Your documentation will ALWAYS suck if it is written by someone that understands your computer, and it will really suck if they also understand the program. That is, unless they are an exceptional technical writer.
An exceptional technical writer is one that can write good docs despite knowing the computer and or the program.
And how do we judge that quality? It's called the "Janitor Test".
If you can ask the janitor in, sit him or her down at the computer, give them the docs, and have them sucessfully accomplish what the docs describe the first time and with no assistance from anyone else, the docs are good.
Someone that is very familliar with the program won't have any problem with those docs, everyone else will find them immensely useful.
New users that are trying to learn your outlook on the world and are trying to learn how you do things so that they can use the pricey tools that they have bought from you will be in love with you if you give them good instructions.
Wouldn't that be a better scenario than my being so frustrated with your docs that I put a purchase order for replacing our current computers with new Mac Pros for our design staff on hold until I can resolve these issues after I return from a business trip?
Don't give the documentation duties to someone that is involved in the program, and most especially not someone that is involved in it's development. The less they know, the more questions they ask and the higher chance that they will be able to write clear instructions for any level of user. And do test the docs with your own equivelent to the janitor test.
I hope you find this useful.
    === Bob Lynn

    Welcome to the discussions, cad.
Amongst the things they forgot to tell you ... Apple doesn't live here in this user-to-user discussion forum. If you want to talk to Apple you need to use OS X Feedback, and indeed I think you should as you certainly have something useful to say to them.
Presumably your old mainframe took punched cards? And did it speak Fortran? Ah, those were the days! But, as far as I can remember, the manuals were no better then than now.

  • Time Capsule Drive login failure and Firmware frustration

Good morning. I've been attempting to troubleshoot my inability to login to my Time Capsule Hard Drive in Windows XP.
I get the "Unknown User, Incorrect Passsword, or login Disabled. Please re-type" and so on (67) error. From what I'm reading, the new firmware might have caused this issue so being a good geek, I read up and got the 5.3.2 Airport Utility and attempted to download the old 7.3.2 firmware version, only to discover that every link that points me to it, takes me to an article with no download location. I have googled the planet and search all over the Apple site to no avail.
Time Capsule and AirPort Base Station (802.11n) Firmware 7.3.2
Every download link takes me to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1218
Now I might be missing something...this is only about 3 hours of my life I'll never get back, but is there some help out there?
The only other post I've found that describes my exact issue seems to have been mostly ignored.

To be honest, my TC works perfectly with OSX. I have found where the version and clicked it, but to do this thru Windows Airport utility requires me to have the firmware file on my computer somewhere. Apple.com does not allow me to download the file, let alone find it. All in all, a very frustrating firmware update and I'm somewhat disappointed that Apple has chosen to ignore the issue at hand, or at the very least, provide some form of commentary or dialogue indicating they recognize the issue and are working to resolve it.
I appreciate your help tho Bob, and thanks for taking the time to reply.

  • I want to Sync my iPhone 4 to iTunes however I get an error message from iTunes each time I connect the phone to the PC saying that I should restore to factory settings. Frustrating because it's already annoying enough that I can't drag and drop mp3's!!!

I have never been so frustrated before in my life with any phone. I find it obnoxious as it is that I cannot simply drag and drop files (especially MP3's) straight from my PC directly into my phone, which I have been used to doing up until now. Everyone who convinced me to get the iPhone has instructed me that my frustration can be fixed by downloading iTunes and syncing it all up via that program (which I have never used before). So, I downloaded the program successfully, however when I connect the iPhone 4 to the PC and iTunes is open, I get an error message that 'iTunes cannot read the content of the iPhone "iPhone" and that I should go to the Preferences tab of the iPhone and select 'restore' to restore this phone to factory settings. First of all, I don't understand why I need to do that. I have already downloaded apps and other important things in the 2 days that I have the phone. I am also scared that it will erase my contacts. This is such a headache. Music is very imporatant to me, but I am getting so frustrated that I don't have freedom over the phone which I thought was supposed to be one of the best out there. I would really appreciate help in this matter. I am sure the phone is great but I am on the verge of taking it back and getting something else.

    Hey joshuafromisr,
If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:

    or here:

Hoping for some help with a very frustrating issue!
I have been syncing calendar and contacts on my iPhone 5 and Outlook 2007 using iCloud  2.1.3 (my PC is running Vista). All was well until the events I entered on the phone were showing up in Outlook, but not the other way around. I’ve tried the usual recommended steps: deselecting calendar and contacts in the iCloud control panel and then re-selecting, signing out of the panel and back in, and repairing the Outlook installation in control panel.  I even uninstalled iCloud on the PC and downloaded it again (same version).
The furthest I’ve gotten is step 2 (and once, step 3) of 7 while performing “Outlook Setup For iCloud.” At that point I get, “Your setup couldn’t be started because of an unexpected error.”  After the first attempt at all this, all my calendar events disappeared from Outlook, although they are still in iCloud calendar and on my phone.
Sound familiar?  Any ideas on how to solve this iCloud/Outlook issue?  Thanks much in advance!

After I watch a podcast I delete it. When I go back in there are 500-600 episodes and I have to delete each one manually. Is there a way to stop this from happening or is there a way to delete all at once. It's getting very frustrating.

Had all these issues.  Bit the bullet and downloaded the Downcast App ($1.99).  Much better expereince and a lot more features.  Sad.

  • Self Assigned IP address – can't figure this out. Frustrated.

This is a long post but bear with me. It proposes a challenge for the mac connoisseur. Who knows? Might be fun?
    OK, here goes:
Please help. I have been trying to fix this for about 7 months. I first noticed this issue when I started traveling around the country, from hotel to hotel. While others (PC's and Mac's) had no trouble connecting to the free wifi at these hotels, I did. I kept getting "self-assigned i.p."
This was extremely frustrating. I often had to call up the i.t. guys and ask them to help me manually put in ip address, subnet mask, router (gateway), and dns. This worked much of the time but not always.
Let me also say that, sometimes it worked perfectly! I'd say about 25% of the time (at these hotels) my internet worked perfectly – just connected immediately. The other 75... "self-assigned i.p."
I just spoke to the mac "geniuses" and they told me it's not an issue with my computer at all (either hardware or software). Are you kidding me?!?! How can they explain everyone else's internet working except mine. And I'm talking like 100 or more different hotels in a 4 month period. They were trying to tell me that it was just a coincidence every time! "You'd be surprised" one guy said. Hahaha. They said that the routers aren't accepting my computer's whatever. OK, well WHY?! The router works for everyone but me. It's something wrong with my computer right?! Well no one acknowledged this.
More background info:Just had my airport card and logic board replaced. Computer came back and the sheet said "passed all hardware tests." BUT, none of my issues (I had other ones too involving battery life and not being able to access certain websites) were fixed.
I went to an apple store. They told me to do an erase and reinstall or whatever. So I did that (by dragging and dropping everything I'd saved on an external hard drive using disk utility). By the way, I also upgraded from leopard to snow leopard. So now, if I have the same issues after this I'll know both leopard and snow leopard are screwed up.... right?
OK, so I followed their instructions on deleting and reinstalling to a tee and guess what?! Everything worked! Or so it seemed. Battery fine. Websites now accessible. I figured the airport issue was fixed too. But now that I'm not touring anymore and the airport works in my house, I never encountered any issues. Until now. At my work.
I got a new job and it's one in which I HAVE to have a computer that connects to the internet. So of course, the same issue with self assigned i.p. presents itself. Everyone else in the office has no problem. Including a Mac person that used to work there.
I've been reading some other threads that are just completely confusing me. One of them might be the solution but I thought I'd detail my troubles so that some smart computer person out there can diagnose my specific problem and give me a specific fix.
I noticed that many people believe there was a bug in one of the 10.5 updates. I am pretty quick to install updates (maybe I shouldn't be because I hear that the first updates are often buggy and maybe you should wait for a while). But this problem has continued now with Snow Leopard too so... I don't know. I don't know anything anymore. I have tried everything. And Apple is telling me it's not a problem with my computer. Give me a break.
One more interesting quirk: before doing the erase and reinstall my computer could not find the Apple Store's network. After the erase and reinstall it works. That's why I assumed everything was fine! But no. And now the Mac people are saying there's no problem because they can't see it.
BTW, I have tried all the obvious things. It's not an obvious thing. But I mean, if you think it is... then tell me I guess. But I've been in the advanced tab thousands of times. I feel like I've exhausted everything in there.
Thank you thank you thank you in advance if someone is actually able to solve my issue.

  • Photoshop CC program error when opening or placing files. VERY FRUSTRATING PLEASE HELP.

I'm an advertising graduate student that relies heavily on Adobe programs for my multiple simultaneous projects throughout the school year, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Muse, Edge Animate and Premiere Pro.
I'm using a MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite.
I have been experiencing an incredibly frustrating issue with Photoshop and Muse, both CC 2014. I'll speak about Photoshop in this thread since, well, this is a Photoshop forum. This has been happening for almost a year now. I figured Adobe would've fixed this problem by now, especially given the myriad of crash reports I send.
While working in Photoshop, sometimes when I go to place a file I get an error message that says "Could not complete your request because of a program error." It used to be that this error was fatal and I would have no other choice but to force quit out of Photoshop and restart it. We all know how incredibly time-consuming it is for Photoshop to open (especially 10-15 times in one sitting), and being in grad school, time is not something I have a lot of when I have deadlines and projects due.
This error is still happening and for the same reasons; however, now I can still continue to work on my file, as long as I don't need to open a document or place an image...which doesn't help very much because I'm doing a lot of mockups and composites and need those functionalities. It happens probably 90% of the time when I try to place or open a document.
For the record, it's a similar issue that's causing Muse to crash as well. When I try to add an image file, it causes the entire program to crash "unexpectedly," as Muse so eloquently puts it.
Until recently I had kept CS6 on my hard drive and would dig it out to use in place of CC when PSCC would crash; however, someone told me that having both versions was likely the cause for the crashes. After much hesitation, I finally uninstalled all of CS6 from my hard drive the other day (the right way, not into the trash can, since someone is inevitably going to ask that question) and I'm still having this problem, and now I don't have my CS6 version to fall back on and now I'm in a really bad spot.
I apologize for all the rambling, but I'm really very, very frustrated with this error, and I had to do something while waiting for Photoshop to restart. Someone please help.

MacOS 10.10? Yeah, Apple is working on that bug.  They already fixed the crash in the open/save dialogs, but have a few more problems to address with the open/save dialogs.

When sending email from the Mail App or through other Apps on my iPad, my default From: address will change when I enter a To: address.  This sometimes leads me to send the email from the wrong outgoing email account.  It is frustrating and poor design, especially since I had already checked the From: address.

3rd party email addresses have to be deleted on every synmced mac product, although I have 1and1.co.uk and my imac updatetes the mails in that account from mac mail.
Yahoo etc is a 2 step deleting process but good to get your emails pushed when on the go.
