Frustrated with Elements 10. Should I buy 13?!

Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 was the first paid photo/video editing software I've used, and I tried using it the last few years, but I find it's not intuitive at all, the icons are hard to see, there was no included usage manual, and I do not have enough available internet data to be able to view many videos for instruction.   I feel like I wasted a pile of money for something I used a few dozen times. I am beyond frustrated and almost always default to editing with Windows Live gallery or basic Roxio.  I actually prefer editors I have on my iPhone (Aviary, Instagram, and iMovie) but need a desktop solution.
I see there is a free trial but it doesn't specify how much data it will use for the download and since I have limited monthly data, I need to know these things.
I have had a hard time figuring out if I should drink the kool-aid and get another PE.  Is it REALLY easier to use?  Is there a place where I can learn to use it without video?
Did I just come in on a bum iteration or am I too novice for even the "consumer" Photoshop?  P.S. WHY is there no manual (physical or digital)???
If you have an opinion, PLEASE take a moment to comment and help!

Since you use the program infrequently and have limited data available to you, my suggestion is to keep using PSEv10.
The program has a steep learning curve as you have found out.
A good book may be in order. There are several on the market, and the price is right for a manual targeted to v.10.

The Missing Manual by Barbara Brundage is excellent.

  • I use adobe flash to watch tv online-should I buy antivirus software?

I need adobe flash in order to watch tv online.  I have a MacBook Pro mid 2012 with Mavericks.  Should I buy antivirus and or maleware software and which one is best?  Just an FYI, the only things I download that aren't from Apple are Flash updates (through Flash app, not website), Big Fish games and game updates from disc versions of games and only when game says it's needed (like Sims 3).  Any help would be appreciated.

    No you should not.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • Should one buy only Elements 13 or the combination Elements 13   Premier Elements 13?

I have been using Photoshop CS2 for many years, but Adobe won't activate it anymore and wants me to pay monthly subscription.  I am not a professional, so should I buy Elements 13 or the combination Elements 13 + Premier Elements 13?  Really only want to work on photographs or scans with pixel by pixel changing if necessary.

    rvelapoldi wrote:

That's correct. They shut down the CS2 activation server a couple of years ago.
However, in its place they offer a non-activation version of CS2
Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3
You can download that, install it then enter the new non-activation serial number provided by Adobe at that link. Your existing serial number will not work.
Photoshop Elements is for organizing and managing photographs.
Premiere Elements is for working with video. If you don't do video, you don't need Premiere Elements.

  • It seems that my Office 2008 is incompatible with the Yosemite OS that my friend just installed on my iMac. My Word no longer works. Also, I can't access messages on Entourage. What version of Office should I buy?

My friend installed OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on my iMac. Since then, I can barely use my Miocrsoft Word 2008.  The spinning pinwheel, things freezing up, template and formatting trouble, and I can't get any Entourage messages more than a year old, which is a disaster.  I read that Yosemite won't support Word 2008. What Microsoft Update should I buy, and will that fix my problems?  I am desperate. Thank you in advance for your help.  Here is the result I got from EtreCheck. I hope this helps you help me.  BTW, your drop-down menu under Operating System doesn't work

Remove Office 2008 for Mac using Microsoft deinstall procedure. Reinstall Office 2008 for Mac.  If there are updates, apply them. Using Disk Utility, verify/repair permissions on your boot drive.
Does Office for Mac 2008 now work correctly? If not, you may want to repeat the above first sentence, and then update to Office for Mac 2011, and apply the latest (14.4.8) update which has Yosemite fixes.

You need a newer 2011 or later iMac to use Airplay.

  • Which NI devices should I buy and how to start with?

    Greetings!
I am an undergraduate who is trying to design a control system which can measure chemical solution conductivity as well as PH value; besides, based on those values, we need to control 4 valves to open and close so that acid, base, water, and salt from 4 tanks can flow into the main pipe.
Question: Which NI device should I buy and start with? The devices have to have at least 4 input/output, do you have any suggestion, Thank you very much!!
I am also new to LabVIEW, so any extra suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you , we are considering purchasing NI USB-6008
    http://www.ni.com/products/usb-6008/
Doest it work with the following PH sensor, one specification says that it has output voltage of Output 0-5 vdc, does NI USB-6008 accept it?
    Model A1004 pH Transmitter
    Warning
Do not short the power connections. Wrong wiring of the signal and power wires will result in
permanent damage to the unit instantly.
    Specs:
    Range 0-14pH
    Power: 12vdc 500ma nominal
    Output 0-5 vdc
    Material ABS
    Calibration trim pots
    Distance up to 50ft
Model A1004 is a pH transmitter designed to be used with PLCs and microprocessors that accept
    analog input of 0-5vdc.
Connect any general purpose pH sensor to the transmitter. Double junction sensor is preferred.
Calibrate unit with 4 and 7 pH buffer solutions. Use zero trim pot to adjust 4pH and span trim pot to
adjust 7pH..Fine tune adjustment is done with span trim pot.
If you do not have a sensor , short the bnc connector ,this will simulate 7pH and observe output voltage
    of 2.5vdc.
Din connector provides power and signal from one cable.
Note.: When connecting signal and ground to the PLC input ,use .01uf capacitor across signal
and ground to filter any noise issues.

Depends on how you want to use it. Flash storage on the newer macbook and macbook air are built in. A macbook air is the most light weight and a very good machine. It will do all you want it to do unless you are running some very intensive programs. If you go to the apple store on line you can compare  the different macbook pro" and macbook Air's.

with the new ipad coming out soon, why should I buy the ipad 2?

I can only echo what Pogo says about buying based on what it does today.
3 weeks ago I bought a Mac Mini. A new Mac Mini model has been rumoured to come out anywhere between the same week I made my purchase and the end of August. None's been released as yet.
I wanted one in the week of June that I bought mine so I bought it based on the fact that it did what I wanted and I couldn't imagine anything which could be added that I'd want - my MacBook Pro doesn't have Thunderbolt so the most likely addition isn't really going to be much use for me.
Basically you have to buy what you what based on what's out at the the time.
I can promise that within seconds of the iPad3 being released, the web will be full of rumours about the next one!

Which refurbished iPhone should I buy to work with my refurbished iPad 3 wifi?  Will I need a personal hotspot?

I'm having the same problem.  The iPad has never roamed particularly well between access points, but under IOS6 it doesn't seem to roam at all, it simply sticks with the access point it first connected with.
I don't have a solution for you, unfortunately.

Look, any officially unlocked GSM iPhone will work in India. You purchase from Dubai, no FaceTime, and Dubai is part of the UAE. You purchase anywhere but India, and you will have NO warranty or support. Frankly, doesn't make any sense to me why you want to do this...and don't bother telling me you save hundreds of dollars...still doesn't make any sense. Do a forum search here. We get posts daily, from users in India, who didn't purchase their iPhones in India...guess what? They all have problems. You want to join that bunch? It's your money, have at it.

I install latest update from my ipad 2, after the upgrade tablet running slowly. Probably the system requirements too high for my device. I think that users with older models should be able to install IOS 6.x.x on their devices or consider buying devices from other manufacturers ...
People are dissatisfied with the new update a lot, including some of my friends and acquaintances. Is it reasonable to wait until Apple implements the possibility to return to Ios Ios 6 to 7? And how soon it can be done?
Sorry for my english, i am from Russia.

I have a similar issue. I recently purchased an iPad Mini, and I started off by backing it up from the apps I had on my iPhone. Now, I have a number of apps that never downloaded and that I don't want on the iPad. Some of these are apps that I don't need, while others are the iPhone versions of apps. There are something like 23 apps that I have no use for, but iTunes tries to install every time I connect. I've also tried clicking the 'Will Install' buttons. There's no way to delete these apps from the iPad without first installing them, as far as I can see, and there's no way to NOT install them, in iTunes.
It''s not just annoying, it's causing problems with installation of larger files and movies. Now, every time I sync to the computer, I get a warning that I'm over capacity by 580 MB, and larger apps will not install! Clicking Revert and a bunch of other things doesn't work, either. And I can't just delete some of the apps, because I or my wife use them on our phones!

I successfully instaled it in iMac, but have problem with laptp. I also think I should not have bought 2 upgardes, becase if I have 2 computers, one paid upgrade is good for both computers. Am I wrong? SOmeone can advise how to proceed? I want to try again through Ethernet - cable internet - instead of Wi-Fi. Thank you

You should not have paid twice. If you logged into the App Store with the same AppleID as you used to purchase Mountain Lion the first time, you should not have been charged again.
If you internet connection is not working well enough to download it, do you have access to another network that might be faster? Perhaps and Apple Store nearby?
