Frustrated with OS4 Update on 3GS! Lost signal,vm issues,app organization

I was really excited to update from the previous software to OS4. However, since doing so, I am anything but thrilled and regret updating my phone's software.
Since updating, I have noticed a significant loss in cellular reception. I am missing more calls (calls are going right to voicemail, when voicemail works), and then dropped calls have gotten ridiculous!
The issue with my voicemail according to those who call me is that when calling me it goes right to voicemail and then when they leave a message it says the box is full (when there are no messages in my voicemail box) or they get caught off half way through leaving their message.
Also haven't figured out how to sort apps that are on different pages. It was easy to figure out organizing apps into folders, but when I can't move apps from one page to a folder on another, it defeats its purpose.
In addition, I noticed when I update apps that aren't in folders, after the update the app icons move to the last page of apps I have.
Hope these problems get ironed out!

As far as moving your apps to another page, hold your finger on an app until they wiggle. With your finger slide the app all the way to the left or right of the page and it will take a second but it will jump to the next page. Also not as convenient, but in the long run it seems to be faster if you use itunes. Plug your iphone into the computer and when itunes comes up click on iphone in the sidebar. Then click on the apps tab. If you want to move an icon from, say page 4, click on page 4 then drag the icon to the page on the right where you want it. Hope that works for you.

well first make sure that when you click on the name of your iphone on the left hand side of itunes that you go to the app and music tab and check mark the sync apps and sync music. then try clicking apply in the bottom right hand corner. then if not try doing it again after going to prefrences in the top menu and going to devices tab and click reset sync history if that doesnt work with music try and drop and drag to the name of your iphone, lastly if that doesnt work you can try restoring from a backup from before you updated. it will keep the new software but put everything that was on your phone when you created the backup back onto your phone.

Pull down View > Show Sidebar. This will give you back the same functionality of iTunes 10.x.x.

With my updates i have lost all of my Audio books that I have purchased and when I look it up it doesnt come up that I purchased any. They were all purchased from iTunes. I had about 16 Audiobooks.
How can I get them back

Audiobooks are currently a one-time only download from the store - I believe that they are all supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them that are requiring the one-time only download. Do you have copies of them in the Books part of your computer's iTunes library or on your backup of your downloads ? If not, and if they are still in the store, then you can try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a re-download : : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
If you haven't got copies of them on your computer and Apple let you redownload them then take a backup copy of them and anything else that you've downloaded from the store - even with apps, ibooks, music etc there is no guarantee that they will remain in the store for future re-downloading (content providers occasionally remove their items from the store).

Your 3GS can happily update to the latest iOS 6.1.3.
Unless it is actually an iPhone 3G, in which case it bottoms out at 4.2.1.

How did you "try" to transfer this data? The only way to restore App data is by restoring from a backup that contains the App data, then syncing the Apps back to the phone. Emails are not included in any iPhone backup, only account settings.

I don't want to do this. I have disconnected and restarted phone and macbook pro. Software is up to date. What can I do?

If the only option is giving is to restore or has a connect to itunes logo - then that is the only option you have. You may need to put it in forced recovery mode in order to restore. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808?viewlocale=en_US
Once restored you can restore from a backup or sign into icloud in order to recover any contacts, etc that you had on the phone previously. If you are still missing contacts, which is usually one of the most important things on a phone than make sure you have added any and all email accounts you previously had on the phone.

Serious Lag with OS4 update on 8gb iPod Touch, help with firmware rollback

I updated my 8gb 3rd Gen iPod Touch to the 4.0 OS today and now i'm experiencing serious lag with everything. I want to roll back to an earlier OS, say 3.1.2 or 3.2 but I cant find anywhere to download a copy, its like apple force you to update then leave you fending for yourself with no options to download previous versions.
Can anyone help?
Any other 8gb Touch owners having similar issues? Really not worth it just for folders and spell check...
Oh and Apple should be disgusted at how hard it is to find the link to make your own topics on this site, I'm a fairly skilled user and I was chasing my tail for a good 30min...

I find it comical that EVERYONE was complaning about the lost of features for 2nd gen ipod touchs, yet even now people complain of lag issues, imagine if apple DID put multi tasking and wallpaper on the 2nd gen.

Haha, I think its because of the logic we are using, cause I am a skilled user as well, and I had never attempted to make a topic here before either, I spent 10 mins looking and gave up lol.

Mystery Birthday Calendar with OS4 Update

After I updated to OS4, I found that all my birthday entries appeared twice in my calendar views on the iPhone. Investigating further, I found that when I viewed all my calendars, I had two categories of calendars. First, I had "[email protected]" which correctly showed the three calendars that I sync over Mobile Me (including my birthday calendar, synced from iCal). Second, however, I had a second calendar category/group titled "Other" that showed one calendar "Birthdays."
I have unchecked this second Birthdays calendar to remove the duplicate entries from my calendar views, but I cannot figure out how to remove this "Other" calendar completely. This "Other" calendar group and the second "Birthdays" calendar appears neither on Mobile Me on the web or in my iCal.
Suggestions?

The "Other" Birthdays calendar is a new feature and genertaes the birthdays using the data in your iPhone contacts. It's the same as the Birthdays calendar in iCal and Outlook.

FRUSTRATION with ipod update

I have tried and tried to up date my iPod with no success and am now on the verge of tears trying to figure out what to do.
I can't re-install my iTunes with the cd I received with my iPod because it says that a newer version is installed, but I can't get rid of the newer version as it wont un-install.
When I plug in my iPod it automatically goes to set up mode which I had done over and over.
Is there a telephone number of a person at Apple that I could call and speak with???
I am so at a loss and very frustrated.

Well, that may be all well and good in theory. I am usually able to get it into disk mode, but when I connect it to my computer to restore it, iTunes won't recognize it. The iPod display goes from disk mode-check mark to disk mode-circle/slash without iTunes being able see that anything is there...in fact, while it's plugged in, iTunes locks up until it's unplugged. WHATS THE DEAL!!!!

Please apple, all im asking for is the music that i paid for and downloaded off of itunes, nothing more.
Can anyone tell me how i can get my music sent to me? My phone was sync'd with my laptop and it wiped the music off my laptop itunes page AND my phone. . . .any help would be great - thank you!!

Welcome to the forums Nismo.
Had you read the Terms of Use of the forum that you agreed to by joining, you would find that "Apple" is not here. This is a user to user technical support forum. Hosted by Apple, but not monitored by Apple nor a way to communicate with Apple.
As far as your music goes, when you purchase music from the iTunes store, it is your responsibility to back up that music. That way when something like the current situation going on with you happens, you will have backup copies of your purchased music. Apple is no more responsible for your lost music than a record store would be if you lost a purchased CD.
That being said, you can send a letter to iTunes support and try pleading your case. They might let you download your purchased music again, but I wouldn't get my hopes up too high if I were you.
Not the message I'm sure you wanted to hear, I'm afraid. But it is what it is. Backkups are so important, and unfortunately, there are many, many posts just like yours of people losing their music or other data because they failed to backup.

With recent update I've lost access to my top sites--how get it back?

There used to be a blue symbol at the top of the page (to me it looked like an anvil), click on it and my top sites appeared.
Now, no anvil; nothing I can identify as an access to my top sites.
Top sites are all I have to find things; bookmarks don't work---I click on add a bookmark and when I try to go to it I'm told I don't have any bookmarks.

Was it the Most Visited folder on your Bookmarks Toolbar (see attached)?
One possibility is that your Bookmarks Toolbar is not displaying, or that your items from the bar have moved somewhere else, or that the blue search folder somehow got deleted.
Let's start by making sure the bar is displayed. You can turn it on and off here:
Alt+v (opens classic View menu) > Toolbars > Bookmarks Toolbar
If it isn't on the bar, let's check whether it was moved. Use Ctrl+Shift+b (or Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) to open the Bookmarks Organizer (AKA the Library dialog).
Can you find the Most Visited folder anywhere under All Bookmarks? If so, you could drag it to the Bookmarks Toolbar.
If it's already listed as being on the Bookmarks Toolbar, hmmm, your toolbar items might have been moved to another bar. Let's see whether we can find them.
Alt+v (opens classic View menu) > Toolbars > Customize
Scan your toolbars and the dialog of available items for "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" and, if you see it somewhere other than the Bookmarks Toolbar, drag it back to where it normally lives.

Please help! OS4 update on 3gs wont let me look at my pictures

I can look at camera roll on my phone but every other album contains black boxes where the photos should be. There are hundreds of photos missing. Ive tried to re-sync this but doesnt help just hundreds of black boxes. clicking o the black box doesnt do anything just turns screen black.

Have you tried signing out of both apps on ALL of your devices and then sign in again? If you have an iPhone, sign in again with that one first, so that your phone number will appear as a contact choice on all of you other devices.

I'm very frustrated with the update to iTunes. It lost the links to my libraries, has no vertical scroll bar in either my libriaries OR iTunes store forcing me to use the keyboard to manuver, and my iTunes store $ balance has disappeared for where it used to display so I can't see how much I have left. I've a few other frustrations with the new iTunes, but so far not knowing my balance is one of the biggest.
