Frustrating to publish with iweb Ahhhhhhhhh!!

I would like to say that iweb seems like an amazing application! I have been so excited by the release. I built a truly amazing web site in a short period of time! I was so excited by it's simple design and ease of use that I told everybody I'd come in contact with about it all the while I was making my site. that is until................ I can't seem to publish it!
I have been trying to publish a site for the last three weeks to no avail except for a one and only time! I have tried everything in my bag of tricks. I have read all the posts here contacted tech support several times all with no satisfaction.
I have been a long time mac user/supporter/advocate and am pretty proficient with them. I almost never have to call tech support and usually find that when I do, I have an equal or better understanding of my mac than they do. Now don't get me wrong there have been times when they have helped me solve my problem and always seem eager to help and I have always been appreciative of their being. It's just that my last conversation with them and thier pathetic answer left an aweful foul tast in my mouth!
My last series of phone calls to tech support ended with apple telling me that the problem was with my internet connection. Now I know that they were as frustrated with my problem as I was but for them to put this thing to rest and get me off their back by telling me that this is my problem? Well it's just plain not acceptable!
I know that my internet connection is not the problem! I have tried several other connections at different places and all end up with the same result.
The one time I did get my site to publish a week ago I was using the, "publish to folder" option and then pointing it to my "web" folder on idisk. I was amazed when it published but that was a week ago and now I have updated my site and can't get it to upload again no matter what I try. I've trashed prefs., reinstalled the program, held down the option key and clicked the "publish all" button, I have tried uploading around 3am several times thinking that the server may have less traffic and that might help. I have deleted all my media from my idisk and started over, which in hind site was a mistake, I tried uploading a simple one page one picture site and nothing will publish! I get error messages everytime!! I have not one time given up and have literally spent days of my time trying to figure this problem out!
Here are a list of just SOME of the error messages I get.
An error occurred while publishing file “Images”.
An error occurred while publishing file “index.html”.
An error occurred while publishing file “shapeimage_1.jpg”.
An error occurred while publishing file “shapeimage_2.png”.
Can’t create the file “navbar5normal.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
Can’t create the file “BoilLineProductions/About BLP.html.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
An error occurred while publishing file “index.html”.
Can’t create the file “navbar4normal.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
Can’t create the file “navbarseparator3.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
Is there anybody out there who has suffered like this? If so what are you doing about it?
Sincerely,
Todd

I was having trouble publishing to my .mac account as well. I am traveling so I have the disadvantage/advantage of trying completely different isp networks while trying to upload. I was receiving most of the same errors, but after trying yet another hotel high speed the site published. I hadn't changed any files as I didn't have time I would just start publishing before bed, and the best I can figure is that the isp was causing some delay as well as a delay in the .mac servers causing the program to drop the connection just long enough to hang the upload. It is my understanding that the .mac servers are not the fastest due to sheer volume of use. (idisks constantly syncing etc.) Some things to look at are how big are your files the larger the file obviously the more chance to loose packets of info in transfer and possible errors. How large is the total site you may have hidden files on your idisk eating up needed space or your email may be taking to much of the hard drive. try to reconfigure your email storage to a lower amount of idisk. Mine was set to 512mb or half of my storage space. Did just publish to .mac with a total file size of 400mb so it can be done. also check to make sure your computer is not disconnecting if it goes to sleep. Just a few suggestions hopefully it will help.

  • How to publish with iWeb on other website instead of MobileMe?

    Hi,
I used iweb 3.0 the last time one year ago to publish my website in my mobileme account.
    - how can I today publish on another domain?
    - do I need also a newver version of iweb to do it an dif yes do I need to buy it or is it aprt of OS-X Lion for example?

You will need to find a 3rd party webhost for your website, I have been using IX Webhosting for several years now with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across.
You specify where your iWeb site will be published from the Site Properties screen. Click the site name in the Site Organizer to display the Publish To pop-up menu. iWeb offers the following publishing options:
Choose where to publish your site.
Publish to MobileMe: This is no longer an option (I use IX WebHosting plans start at $3.95 a mo).
Publish to FTP Server: This publishing option provides you with a completely different collection of settings on the Site Properties screen. You’ll need to furnish iWeb with your Web server’s FTP settings (which should be furnished to you by the host) and your site’s address (or URL).
Publish to a Local Folder: The final publishing option creates a folder on your hard drive that contains all the files to display your Web site. Once again, you must supply the site URL as it will appear on the Internet after you copy or upload the site files to the server.

  • Personal domain pointing to my site published with iWeb, on MobileMe

Just published my site using iWeb08 onto MobileMe and bought my domain name with GoDaddy. Having troubles getting the domain name www.brendaschroeder.com to point to my site
    http://web.me.com/brendalynnschroeder/Site/Welcome.html
This is the first time I am doing this kind of thing and thought I followed directions right but it isn't working and GoDaddy tells me I need to go to Apple for support.
    Help.
    In GoDadday, under CNAMES:
    Host: web.me.com Points to www.brendaschroeder.com
Did I need to put in something different/more?

    Hello,
I am having the same problem as brennielynn. Our domain name is registered with Network Solutions with the cname pointed to web.me.com, per instructions in IWeb. Using IWeb, our domain name, www.dewittgalleryandframing.com, is entered into our MMe account.
Result: in browser, entering www.dewittgalleryandframing.com shows an Apple.Mac page saying the IWeb page requested cannot be found.
In case relevant: We have a MMe Family Account. Our primary account has another domain name set up, www.jimdewitt.com. Same setup in Network Solutions as above. Everything works fine. To set up our second domain name--the one with the problem, at this point--we set up a second MMe account and a separate account name on our IMac, with Systems Preferences set to the second MMe account name.
    What now?

  • Picture published with iWeb to Mobile Me disappears in Explorer.

My website brandgarden.no has a photo on the last page. This photo works fine if you use Safari or Firefox, but disappears after 1 second if you use Explorer. Can this problem be solved, so even Microsoft users can look at my website?

    It's all in the manual
You publish to MobileMe. With or without a domainname.
To use your domainname, follow the instructions in your MobileMe account where you setup Personal Domain:
    https://secure.me.com/account/
Where you'll find a link to [iWeb: Using your own domain name|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1107]
Or read it in the [MobileMe help|http://help.apple.com/mac/1/help> : Account > Setting up a Personal Domain
You can have only one domainame with Personal Domain at MobileMe. To use the other one you have to enable URL forwarding where you host your domainname.
And browse this forum. Your question is not unique and has already been answered a few thousand times.
    Oh, I forgot. Here's the move :

  • (No .Mac Acct.) Can I still publish with iWeb?

I don't know much about iWeb. I already have a webpage and domain name and I am thinking of buying iLife but only if I can publish to my existing domain.
Sorry if this question has already been asked but I didn't find a similar question anywhere in the iWeb discussions.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Jamie

    I already have a
webpage and domain name and I am thinking of buying
iLife but only if I can publish to my existing
    domain.
If you have hosting space at your domain, of course, you will be able to use iWeb to design your pages. Then through iWeb you will save the website files to a folder on your desktop. And from your desktop you would use an FTP program to upload the site files to your webhost server. There are some tips from Tom Gewecke here on this page for hosting iWeb pages on a non-.Mac server...
    http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/iwebserver.html
Good luck and enjoy iLife (especially iWeb) when you get it! If you have found any of this information to be useful to you, please take the time to provide me with feedback by marking my reply as "solved" or "helpful" using those little buttons that you see in the title bar of this reply. I'd really appreciate it!

  • I can not publish with iWeb.

I seem to be in a circle of prompts. "sign in to mobile." I do and "your account has been upgraded to iCloud." How do I now publish my website?

Are you really on 10.5.2 as your signature suggests? - because this does not work with iCloud in any event.
Assuming you are actually on 10.7.2 and have migrated to iCloud, you need to go to System Preferences>MobileMe and sign in - the migration process tends to sign people out. Then iWeb should work OK, publishing to MobileMe just as before.
iCloud does not provide any website hosting or general files storage in the manner of iDisk; as MobileMe will be terminated next June your website will disappear then unless you find another host for it. You can publish to another host using iWeb provided it is up to date. More details here:

  • Newly downloaded iWeb 09 - having troubles publishing with iWeb 08

Aloha - I have had iWeb host our site for a while now without any problems. I just downloaded iLife 09 - and opened iWeb. All of the pages are RED on the pane - so I made a couple simple text changes that I needed and hit publish. It takes a long time (much longer than usual) and then when it finishes, all of the pages are still RED and no changes took place online. Tried it three times all with the same result.
Is there something I need to do or change in iLife 09 to get my site to jive with what I made in iLife 08?
    Thanks for your help
    Bryce

    Bryce:
What you're experiencing is a bug in iWeb. Report your experience of it to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html.
I get the same thing. If I publish it all turns blue until I close iWeb and then reopen. Sometimes, however, even though all pages are red it seems that only the changes are being published.
We just have to grin and bear it.

  • I cannot get a good "Publish" with iWeb

I must have a configuration problem - but I cannot figure out what to do. this happens even when I try to Publish one of the example pages. I get this error message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home1/malmnota/public_html/test/index.html on line 1
I tried one of the suggestions in another thread and published to a local folder. Both my website and the test of the example page published just fine, Then I used "Fetch" to upload to my website. I deleted the version that iWeb had put there before the Fetch upload. When I tried the URL's from Safari I got the same parse error.
After the local folder/fetch scenario, my first reaction was a Bluehost.com [my host] problem. But, to prove that assumption, I looked up my old coding in MS Publisher. I published it anew and used Fetch to put it on Bluehost. (My PC is on a VM in the Mac, so Fetch could get the files from a shared file that I use for Mac/PC interchange,) It published and was viewable as a working web page.
So I am back trying to figure out what iWeb is doing that is causing :
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home1/malmnota/public_html/test/index.html on line 1

Bluehost tech support does say "I am not sure why it did this but it was placing <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> in the head of the code. This should not be there."
That is definitely wrong. Having such a first line in your code is in total conformance with standards. What is not correct is that their server should be set to use "short php tags" and thus interpret all code beginning with <? as php. Doing so makes it impossible for their server to handle standard xhtml webpages. It should not interpret code as php unless it begins with <?php .
Even if they do not want to do that for their server as a whole, they should easily be able to do it for your individual space.
Very, very few people have this problem with their webhost.

  • Do I need to buy a web hosting package to publish with iweb, and how do I configure Filezilla?

    Hi,
I've created a website using iweb and have bought a domain name from 123reg and downloaded Filezilla as the FTP server. How do I configure Filezilla to my server and do i need to buy a web hosting package?
    Thanks!

To use FileZilla, or iWeb's built-in FTP, you need a webhosting package.
Which one? Start with your own ISP. Otherwise its like answering what's a good grocery store.
The webhoster will provide the details of what to enter in the various fields.
Perhaps 123Reg offers what you want? They do actually.
You must have seen it when you visited their pages.

  • Two Sites Published With iWeb...Viewers Get Error Message With Second Site

I have used iWeb to create two web sites. I believe I have done so properly, using File>New Site to begin creating the second site. After publishing, I can visit both sites from within iWeb.
Curiously, the message panel that displays after successful publishing indicates the same URL for both web sites. Obviously, that's wrong. That address will open the first site properly (after automatically adding additional characters to the URL during opening), but is incorrect for the second site. As an alternative, I have visited both sites from within iWeb, and copied the URL from the browser window as the "proper" address.
When I use the copied URL's in my own browser, I can navigate to each of the websites properly. However, when I give those URL's to someone else, they get an error message that the second site cannot be found using the URL for the second site that I obtained using the "copying" technique described. That's the case even though both URL's work properly from my computer and browser.
Any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

Mount your iDisk and go to the iDisk/Web/Sites folder and delete your friend's site folder that's there. The example below shows many site folders in the Sites folder.

  • Problems with iWeb publishing to MobileMe

    Hi,
Did you have some problems since about four days on publishing with iWeb to MobileMe? In my case, when I publish my site - and I made just little changes - iWeb publish ALL the pages.
I early had this same problem, this spring, and it was a MobileMe problem; Apple just made a little update to the server and it was ok.
    I'm using iWeb'09
    Thanks

With a lot of media content have you considered other ways of adding movies or audio tracks that only require you uploading those file manually once and then linking to them. For movies this demo page has one possible method: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window. This demo page has 7 movies added that way. They don't load until the play button is selected. PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes
For audio you can use flash players or a flash jutebox. Roddy's site, iWeb for Musicians, has examples and how-to's for both. See the following pages: Music Players and the following 3 pages after it. See the Next Page button at the bottom.
I've got a couple of flash players on my demo page: Music Players.
There are many alternatives to having to load all the media each time you republish.

  • How I do to open a website created with iWeb in other computer

    Hi,
My web site was created with iWeb last year in other computer, a dead MacBook. I have a copy of my web files created with iWeb, and moved to my new computer, iMac.
Now I want to edit my web using iWeb, but I can´t find the way to open the files to modify and actualize my web, etc...
Does anyone know how to do this? can iWeb open and edit a web site created by itself?
    Help will be appreciated,

Felix ~ No, only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
“Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but *there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb*. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.”
If you don't have a backup of your Domain file (e.g. via Time Machine), paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • Index problems with iweb 09 and ftp uploads

    Hi,
after several issues with the site i eventually re-built and published with iweb 09's built in ftp.
The problem i have is that the published site goes in a folder called Site on my server but the index page that redirects to the welcome.html file doesn't direct it to inside the site folder. This means when i navigate to the site it comes up as welcome.html not found on this server.
I've resorted to filezilla again as when i publish to a local folder and upload it works ok.
I still want to resolve this as the iweb ftp will publish just the canges so is loads quicker.
I imagine the only way to resolve this is to change the settings in the iweb site settings page.
does anyone know if i need to tell iweb a different path other than the server url.
    EG; my url is www.thepaddyproject.co.uk
iweb put the site on the server ok (www.thepaddyproject.co.uk/Site
the index page needs to redirect to www.thepaddyproject.co.uk/Site/Welcome.html
    any help appreciated

  • Can not publish to iWeb 3.0.2, maybe a sync problem, how to solve it?

My earlier MacbookPro died and I got a new one. Since then the iWeb does not work at all. I have a valid Mobileme subscription till spring next year, but iWeb does not show the existing sites (which are in the other computer) and does not start publishing and does not want to sync the existing sites into the new one. I can publish to Homepage, though.
The only action iWeb does is to take me to the Sync window, it confirms that I have a valid subscription, but thereafter nothing happens.
This must be a problem with sync settings, I gather, but where do I find it, and the key to solve it?
I do NOT want to sync all information from this computer to mobileme or viceversa, otherwise I loose info stored from the previous computers to my iDisk and mobileme spiderweb.

You need iWeb's Domain file from the other computer (your old MacBook Pro) — here's a diagram of where it usually resides:
...But since it "died" and presumably inaccessible, see this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
“Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.”
By the way, here's the normal procedure when your old computer has not died:
_iWeb: Modifying your site from another computer_
iWeb: Publish to your MobileMe account from more than one computer

  • Video with iWeb

    To those who can help.
iWeb makes it easy to drag and drop a video into the window and add to the site to publish.
I have been experiencing problems when adding a video constructed using iMovie.
It works fine on my machine when I check it online. However when others tried to access it from theirs (prob not Mac) they were unable to view the clip.
I did try and convert and save this as an mp4, thinking that this would resolve the issue. Unfortunately the matter persists in being a stumbling block.
The only other option I had was to load it up through youtube and create the link to there from the site.
It would look much better and work more efficiently if the movie clip could be added directly onto the site through the use of iWeb.
Any fixes to the problem would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Movies published with iWeb require QuickTime.
The alternative is using a Flash video player. Most play .m4v files (made with iMovie) and .flv.
Here are samples for your pleasure to study and nim:
