Frustration. (Sad Ipod Icon & Battery Life icon)

So this is the second ipod the store has given me and it seems that it too has decided to die within 7 months. For some reason, let me say that it was fine last night, is displaying the sad ipod icon. When I hold the menu & select buttons it goes to the battery life icon? So yeah what do I do now? I mean Im going to try to recharge it. I had it plugged in for a while and it came up like it was working then died again. I'm so annoyed because it seems like Mac can't make an ipod that lasts more than 7 months. Stupid. I take care of the thing like I would my own child. If anyone has any ideas of what to do let me know.

yeah that happened to me too, today.
and i've had mine for 16 months.
and i have no idea what to do.
i do have a 2 year warranty on it.

  • Battery life icon freeze

Well, this is hardly novel, but my battery life icon tends to be wrong. In the sense that it sticks, say at (3:06) remaining, and right until the moment it sleeps itself will say (3:06)...unless I change the display under "show." At which point it unsticks itself.
I reset the PRAM. I'm also having a probably unrelated issue whereby the printer utility is not able to see shared printers. All of this only started happening after I updated to 10.4.6.
    Anyone else have this problem?

    Molly,
"Repair Disk Permissions" from Disk Utility may help.
Also, re-installing the latest combo update may help as well.

  • Why is there an X in my battery life icon

I have been trying to charge my MacBook but the percentage won't change and there is just an X in the battery sign. I've tried to restart, to charge when the computer is off, but the x won't go away. What should I do, so it will charge again?

Along with Lorne, I noticed this when I was running on the AC adapter without my battery installed. Try taking the battery out and putting it back in again. If it appears to be installed properly, check for any bulging parts. I had a bulging battery, which was why I had my battery out and running on the AC adapter in the first place. The bulging battery problem (a subject of several other threads) is also characterized by reduced battery life, random shutdowns, and bizarre trackpad behavior before the bulge becomes noticeable from the outside of the computer.
Question: did your computer work without the AC adapter before you noticed this problem? If it did, than your battery was contacting, and I have no idea what is going on, unless there was a change in battery contact.
    Good luck.

  • N8 frustration - WLAN/FM radio/battery life

Boy, were my hopes ever dashed?
Great to look at, great to hold in one's hand, nice to swoosh between homescreens, photo-taking a treat.......I could go on; not much, but I could go on.
    How frustrating is this phone?
Anytime I plug in the supplied headphones to listen to the FM radio, the app freezes and won't close down. It finds all the stations, but won't let me pick one or assign an ID to any of them.
Battery life seems much less reliable than that of my previous 5800, but I'm willing to make an exception with regard to the fact I'm regularly on the screen trying to work out how to use the thing! IF I ever manage to get to grips with it, or if it ever gets the fix that it needs, this issue may well be forgotten.
The 'messaging' icon was lost during an organisation of the menu screen, and cannot be found or replaced, even after a reset.
The most annoying thing, however, is the internet connectivity - or lack of! So far I've had trouble with downloading updates to allow facebook and twitter to work - what's with apps for 'social networks' AND 'communities'? - accessing OVI stores requires regularly re-signing in, mailbox settings are proving problematic amongst other things, and connecting to my WLAN at home....? Nae chance.
I have a BT HomeHub (one of the black numbers) which allowed a laptop and a Wii, no problem. This phone? Found it, took the key, will connect, but any attempt at web browsing is met with a window stating 'Invalid server name'. After a long call with BT this morning, the HomeHub was reset, and this seemed to clear everything and allow access. Come teatime, however, and we're back to the 'invalid server name' response. What is THAT all about? How can we overcome this?
As a point to note, I tried connecting to my sister's Virgin Media hub at her house a couple of days before - easy! No problem whatsoever. A chap in the Vodafone shop recognised this from the anecdotal evidence of other customers and said perhaps a WPA/WEP diecrepancy may be the cause. It is at this stage that I become disconnected from any sense of understanding.
Can anyone enlighten me, please? All I want is to get this working and get on with my life. A quick scan of other discussion topic headings suggests to me that this may be a winter of discontent for many N8 owners. Are there any knowledgable folk out there with some practical suggestions/solutions?
It's late. I'm tired. Good night.
    Best regards
    MT

    @2late2avoidN8
I also have had problems with the wlan connection on my N8. The phone would connect to my wlan no probs. But when trying to connect to the internet it would say "failed. Access denied".
Then tried to connect to the internet using my network providers access point and got the message "Invalid server". Out of frustration I rang the Nokia Australia call centre (located in the Phillipines) and the woman I spoke to there told me to perform the following steps.
1 Switch the phone off for about 30 seconds.
2 Switch it back on and wait untilthe home screen appears.
3 On the dialler type *#7780#
4 Wait for the phone to restart.
Did all that and guess what. It solved my connection problems.

  • My Ipod touch battery life depreciating, and it seems to coincide with my earphones no longer registering

    Hello,
I have had a few iPod's over the last couple of years, and well I am starting to get bored of exchanging/purchasing a new one because of what seems like a reoccuring problem. My iPod's battery is dying... it no longer lasts a day even without use (I have taken off extra apps-I just have what came with my iPod on my phone, my bluetooth is disabled). This has happened to me before, I had reset my iPod. Reuploaded it from my back up as well as return it to manufaturers defaults and sync'd it as a brand new iPod and this has not helped. (Initially I thought maybe I had a corrupted file on there).
I had taken my iPod into the Genius Bar, told me to do the manufaturers reset, even had an ipod exchanged. I was told that doing mini charges would 'teach' the battery that it was empty before it truly was. So I stopped using a car charger, I now use my iPod and let it die before I charge it once again, or at least have it below the 20% battery life before I will plug it in. And yet the problem still persists. I know I have time to take it in and have it looked over, but I'm tired of the same issue.
This issue seems to come along with an issue with my earphones. I use the Skullcandy 50/50 ear buds that have been working on my iPod for months now. And yesterday I had been listening to my iPod in the car using the AUX port, have my iPod volume all the way up and my speakers down. Typically when I take out the AUX port cord and replace them with my earphones the iPod would change the volume level to what I was listening to last with earphones. But now it isn't doing that, and the controls for the pause, volume, skip/rewind no longer work.
The Apple staff have been very kind to me, but as a customer I am getting tired of having to deal with this. I am just at my wits ends as this would be my 3rd iPod... so I think that it's me causing this but what could I possibly be doing to create this?

    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If defective and not abused Apple will experience it with a refurbished one since it should be within the one-year warranty.

My son's IPOD Touch has a battery life of about 30 minutes.  It is a refurbished model and wondered if there was a way to upgrade the battery?

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

  • 7th generation ipod nano battery life? Please help.

I only seem to be getting about ten hours out of my new ipod nano.I've only had since October when it came out and charged it only about five times since then.I have calibrated the battery a few times, but it still has not improved.I only use my ipod for music and photos and I have the brightness setting on lowest.I don't use the equalizer or bluetooth.I have read that resetting it doesn't help.I really love my ipod, but I hope it's not defective 'cause it's engraved and I haven't bought the warranty for it yet.Does anyone else have this issue with the battery life? Any advice?

I guess i neglected to say that I did all tests from letting it completely die to letting it sit for 22 hours without touching it (who uses ipods without touching them for 30 hours?) and it died just after 22 hours. 3 times now it said connect to charge after 5 to 6 hours but one of the times i let it play without touching it after it said to charge and it went for another 5 hours then died? Any other hints or tricks or is this battery really garbage like others are saying!? If apple don't do a fix for this they will be getting hundreds of these ipods back because of the deception on battery life!

  • IPod video Battery Life

    Hi all
I was wondering what sort of battary life i should be expecting from an ipod video when used to watch a film - i understand that this will drain the power fast, but it does seem to go down very fast almost to the point weres there is no point using the video function without being pugged into the mains.

you should expect i think its 6.5 hours of battery life, but ive found that the brightness drains the power while watching video

  • 4th Gen, 8GB iPod Nano Battery life

I got my iPod Nano a little over a month ago, and the battery life seems to be unusually short. My dad suggested it might be because I didn't let it charge fully and drain fully. I turned it on, plugged it in, and synced it. After it was done (it took, like, an hour) I took it out and started listening to it. I don't know when I plugged it in, but it did not die.
Is that the problem, or is my model just defective? Is it the same with everyone else?

I got my daughter an 8gb ipod for Chanukkah and it, too, has a problem with the battery in that the charge lasts only 5 hours or less. I bought one for myself as well (16gb) and it runs on a full charge (so far) for more than 29 hours. As a hardcore Microsoft fan, and a Zune owner, I have to say my first foray into the Apple world has been a massive disappointment. I love how support gives you no solid answer other than to tell you the gift you got someone may be faulty. (duh.) and that you'll have to wait up to three weeks for a replacement because you dared to personalize it with an engraving. Colour me disgusted.

  • IPod Nano Battery Life when using Nike+

I saw this on the support site:
How much does using the Nike + iPod system affect my iPod nano battery playback time? The receiver draws very little power from the iPod nano. The overall impact on the iPod nano battery playback time is less than 5 percent.
However, I've owned my Nike+ kit for a couple of weeks now and I went from fully charged to almost empty on my battery after only 3 1-hour exercise sessions! That seems pretty insane given how much battery life the 2G nano is supposed to have. Any thoughts?

Are you leaving the backlight on during your workouts? If so, that's probably the culprit.
Also, do you get "normal" battery life (12-20 hours of playback, depending on EQ settings, backlight, etc.) when you're using your nano simply to play music (and not using the Nike kit)?

  • Does cold weather zap the iPod's battery life?

It seems like when I walk my dog in the cold weather my iPod runs out of battery life a lot faster. Yesterday I had the iPod in my car and went in for about an hour and a half and when I came out it was totally depleted. Is it the cold or time for a new iPod?

It will make the battery run down faster. The battery on my old mini lasts only 3 hours max in warm weather and maybe half that in cold. It is pretty old so that's a factor too. Newer ones should do better.

  • Ipod speakers - battery life

I recently bought some ipod speakers...and was just curious - whenever my ipod is plugged in it is charging. Does this effect the battery life? There doesn't seem to be any other way to play the ipod because it has to be docked in to the speakers...

  • IPod Photo battery life & re-charging

I bought a 60GB iPod Photo solely to upload photos from my digital camera on an overseas trip. When transferring photos I can see the green battery symbol drain in front of my eyes! Then it takes 12-15 hours to recharge, making it useless in time for the next day's batch. Is this normal? What can be done? I understand Apple's advice is that re-charging should take 5-6 hours.

  • 2nd Generation iPod Touch Battery Life

I'm getting about 45 minutes of battery life when watching Youtube music videos on wifi. The battery recharges completely in about an hour via any usb port, or when using a Griffin remote charger. I had hoped for 4 or 5 hours of use. Is my battery life before recharge normal, or should I push Apple for a new battery before the warranty expires?

Video takes a lot a battery because CPU working constantly and WIFI too. The only way to save a little battery life is turning down brightness as much as you can stand. Mine is set below 50% brightness and I get about the same playing some games or constant surfing the net maybe 2 hours. You won't ever see close to 4 to 5 hours unless they come up with a better battery. If you search you may find some early models claiming higher battery times. I cannot concur but I do know that many have claimed that the 3.0 update seem to hurt battery life. That could be the case, but mine from the start even with the older 2.? OS was never any better. I do agree with some that running the battery until it shuts down and then charging it is better then charging when it recommends at 20%. I have also noticed that the battery meter is not that accurate. I can get a 20% warning and a couple minutes later its back to 30% .
