FSB OCing kills suspend and AMD Overdrive

Using the FSB OC switch on my motherboard to increase the FSB 10% works. However my PC wont suspend properly now and when I try to run AMD's Overdrive software, it crashes. Any thoughts?
Brad

I've never been keen on OC'ing using switches.
The only advice I have for you is to set it back to default and change the FSB in the BIOS instead, leaving everything else as is. See how you go. Even if you bump it by just a few MHZ, see what happens.
You tend to get far more fine tuning out of the BIOS as well, and can push things right to the limit.

  • K9A2 Platinum 9950 and AMD overdrive

    Ive been gathering overclocking info for ages now and Ive never really tried much. Ive just upgraded to the AM2+ platform from my old 939 box. Ive just discovered the AMD overdrive utility and have been playing with it in novice mode. I slid the bar notch by notch until I reached level 10, the highest in novice mode. It really didnt do much it seems, now my 2.6ghz cpu is running at a blazing 2665.36 after using the novice mode to max  . Looks like all its done is raise the PCIe clock to 110, HT ref. clock to 205 and the memory clock to 410. Nice little baby steps . It passed the stability test no sweat. What I was wondering was how effective is the auto clock feature? Does it overclock until it finds a max oc or can you stop the process when you are satisfied with the progress (example whan it reaches 2.8 can I just stop it and test the stability?). How is the utility overall? I know its better to do it in the BIOS but for a novice like me it seems like a safer option.

    It's the BIOS. Just tested it with beta v1.21 and gave me the 700 chipset message too. Also with v2.10.
    With BIOS v1.1 it gave me the unsigned driver message.
    After booting Vista X64 with the option F8 and then "Don't check for unsigned drivers" Overdrive starts.
    And showed to be a very nice tool.
    I'm sorry for the above post.
    I was WRONG...
    With the K9A2 CF use: Overdrive from the MSI download page
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloadfile&dno=6176&type=utility
    Only still the unsigned driver thing so boot Vista X64 with the option F8 and then "Don't check for unsigned drivers".
    The chipset shows as RD790

  • 970A-G45 with latest Bios not read correctly By Amd Overdrive

    System is as follows
    Motherboard: 970A-G45 Bios is now 1.61 all have been tried
    CPU: AMD FX 8120
    Memory: AMD Performance Edition 1600MHz 8 gbyte
    PSU Corsair GX600
    problem is that AMD BEMP profiles are grayed out,With this processor and memory the BEMP profile should be available both AMD and Patriot the makers of the memory say the problem is the bios not being read correctly by AMD overdrive.Now how do we get a bios release that will be correctly read by AMD Overdrive.here are pics of cpu-z and AMD overdrive BEMP.
    I used the instructions posted here  but the image in the instructions doesn't show either

    ok the links work now had to resize images

    Does AMD overdrive start and work on your system, besides the BEMP thing: yes!, so that is not the question or problem here.
    Do you have the hardware components that are needed to support BEMP: NO!

  • [SOLVED] Poweroff, suspend and hibernate don't work

    I installed Archlinux on my work desktop on Monday and can't get poweroff, suspend and hibernate to work. The command `systemctl poweroff` sort of works, except it doesn't actually turn off the computer. Suspend and hibernate don't work at all, the computer hangs on the terminal with a cursor on the top left corner of the screen. Here is the log from `journalctl`. There doesn't seem to be any error messages in it, as far as I can see.

    Thank you for your replies. Shutdown now doesn't turn the computer off either. About the type of system, I think it was custom built. This is a new install from Monday, so I didn't update the kernel. Poweroff, suspend and hibernate have never worked. The requested output:

  • AMD OverDrive Center vs. MSI ControlCenter

    Which one is better to use?
    I don't Overclock yet, but if and when I do, which is better to use or do i use both? Do you have a better suggestion & can up point me in the right direction if you do? Either way, I would appreciate your help & knowledge. Thank you!

    Better overclocking is acheived in the bios.
    A very good guide for overclocking your ph2x6 can be found on the xbit labs web site.
    I have no time for software overclocking, but amd overdrive 4.0.4 comes with goodly stability tests.
    You can get overdrive 4.0.4 from the guru of 3D
    Thanks for the post. Could you provide the link to that guide on xbit Labs? I got the AOD 4.0.4. works great.

  • Suspend and resume hook help

    I'm writting a hook for suspend/resume, however I've run into some trouble.
    So basicly what I need is:
    a) A script to stop and start mpd [done] (That's easy. Just setup mpd.conf's RUNAS user to the desired username and regardless that the mpd command is run as root it will run as the desired user)
    b) A script to stop and start oss4 since it fucks up after suspend [DONE] (piece of cake...)
    c) A script to view my wlan0 essid, save it to file, killall dhcpcd (the dhcpcd part, at least, is easy) and on resume to enter it again and run dhcpcd. [Need help]
    (In order to start my wifi I use iwlist wlan0 scanning, I choose the desired network and then iwconfig wlan0 essid DESIREDESSID and dhcpcd wlan0, but after suspend wlan0 looses it's settings so I need to make a script to enter them back.)
    I was thinking about something like iwconfig wlan0 | grep ESSID, but it returns (as expected)
    [dheart@lightbringer ~]$ iwconfig wlan0 | grep ESSID
    wlan0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"ESSID_NAME"
    I'm quite new at bash scripting and I have no idea how to write something that complex.
    d) Also sonata, my desired mpd frontend looses connection to mpd if mpd is restarted while it is running. So I need something to stop sonata (that's easy - killall sonata) and after that to run it (but not as root)... So, my question is how to run a program as normal user from  /etc/pm/sleep.d/ hook [NEEDHELP].
    Here's what I've written so far
    #!/bin/bash
    case $1 in
    hibernate)
    echo "Killing mpd and stopping oss4"
    mpd --kill & /etc/rc.d/oss-linux-free stop
    suspend)
    echo "Killing mpd and stopping oss4"
    mpd --kill & /etc/rc.d/oss-linux-free stop
    thaw)
    echo "Starting oss4 and mpd"
    /etc/rc.d/oss-linux-free start & mpd
    resume)
    echo "Starting oss4 and mpd"
    /etc/rc.d/oss-linux-free start & mpd
    *) echo "Wrong call"

    you're probably better off starting network autodetection on resume, I know most people suspend to go between, for example, home and work, or home and the intarwebz cafe, and seldom suspend and resume in the same location reliably.

    I am running Photoshop CC 2014 on Windows 8.1 with an AMD quad core processor and AMD E1-2100 APU with AMD Radeon HD 8210 Graphics Card. I have installed the latest driver version 13.152.0.0. When I activate puppet warp, the mesh appears over the image and I can place the first pin.  However, when I go to add the second pin, Photoshop crashes. I have tried with on a new, blank file, with just a few lines on it, but, as soon as I place the first pin, the image disappears, and then, as soon as I click anywhere else in the image, Photoshop crashes. I have followed all the online advice about settings under the Preferences/Performance interface, but nothing fixes the problem. Can anyone please help?

  • 8i EE Setup.exe crash - XP Pro and AMD X2 CPU

    When trying to install 8i on my XP Pro (SP2) box with and AMD X2 3800+, setup.exe crashes as soon as it is run. I've tried the fix for P4s (renaming the symcjit.dll instances), but to no avail. This happens wherever the setup.exe is run from.
    Has anyone encountered this problem and managed to fix it?

    Hope you realize that Microsoft has changed a number of the kernel APIs with XP. Oracle8i was written to older APIs and you may experience crashes, possibly at random, simply because you are trying to run things in an incompatible way.
    (I see this as a bit like buying a new car chassis and putting in an old engine and transmission - there is a lot of tinkering required to get the motor mounts to match.)
    In my experience, people who have made 8i work on XP Pro have generally upgraded XP from an older OS and have been lucky enough to have the old APIs still lying around.
    Suggest you try moving up to a newer version of Oracle and, if necessary, use the compatibility parameter to keep compatibility.

  • Your Voucher has been suspended and can no longer be used !!?

    Hi guys,
    I have purshased 2 vouchers for 2 Java exams it's been a while, they have both expiration date at 31-AUG-2013 , lately when I tried to apply them for my exam at PearsonVue a message appears and tells me that "the voucher is SUSPENDED and can no longer be used"
    I don't understand what is going on and they dont even tell why it is suspended
    is there something I can do about it? thanks in advance
    - Kacem

    I'm pretty sure that for this situation, you'll need to contact Oracle Certification Support Oracle University - Support Form. If it is the issue that I suspect, Oracle Certification Support will need to assist. Please provide the voucher numbers when you contact Oracle, they will need to know the voucher numbers and any purchase info you have - where did you purchase, how did you pay, can you provide a receipt?

  • Bit locker encryption requests key unless I suspend and resume the encryption

    I am rolling out new computers with Windows 7 Enterprise OS on them.  I am installing bit locker encryption on them.  For some reason with this group of computers, and I recently rolled out a different batch of computers without this problem,
    after encrypting, I must suspend and resume bit locker or upon restart of shutdown and start the user is prompted for the bit locker encryption key.

    Hi,
    Could you please tell some more details about the issue? What do you want to achieve here? To enable bitlocker without the prompt of the startup key? If it is , then please take a check if we have  Require
    additional authentication at startup  policy enabled.
    Besides, could you please have a share for how do you enable bitlocker?
    And here is a guide for bitlocker in Windows 7, just for reference:

  • Java Thread suspend and resume problem

    Hi,
    I am trying to write a program to implement thread suspend and resume using wait() and notify without using the deprecated methods like resume and suspend.
    I have written the following program which compiles but when I run it hangs without terminating. There seems to be some logic error but I am not able to catch it.
    Please help
    public class TestSuspendResume {
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        MyThread m1= new MyThread("--One-- ");
        MyThread m2= new MyThread("--Two-- ");
        m1.suspendMe();
        try {
          Thread.sleep(1500);
          m1.t.join();
          m2.t.join();
        } catch(InterruptedException e) {
          e.printStackTrace();
        m1.resumeMe();
        System.out.println("Now : end main thread");
    class MyThread implements Runnable {
      boolean suspend = false;
      Thread t;
      MyThread(String name) {
        t = new Thread(this,name);
        t.start();
      void resumeMe() {
        suspend = false;
        notify();
      void suspendMe() {
        suspend = true;
      public void run() {
        try {
          for(int i=0;i<20;i++) {
            System.out.println("Now : "+Thread.currentThread().getName()+i);
            Thread.sleep(200);
            synchronized(this) {
              while(suspend)
                wait();
        } catch(InterruptedException e) {
          e.printStackTrace();
    }

    Thanks for that response. I figured out that was the problem in the logic. I have modified the code to make it simpler but it is still hanging.
    public class TestSuspendResume {
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        MyThread m1= new MyThread("--One-- ");
        try {
          m1.suspendMe();
          Thread.sleep(1000);
        } catch(InterruptedException e) {
          e.printStackTrace();
        try {
          m1.resumeMe();
        } catch(Exception e) {
          System.out.println("ASASAS");
          e.printStackTrace();
        try {
          m1.t.join();
        } catch(InterruptedException e) {
          System.out.println("WOWOW");
          e.printStackTrace();
        System.out.println("Now : end main thread");
    class MyThread implements Runnable {
      boolean suspend = false;
      Thread t;
      MyThread(String name) {
        t = new Thread(this,name);
        t.start();
      void resumeMe() {
        if(suspend==true) {
          suspend = false;
          notify();
      void suspendMe() {
        suspend = true;
      public void run() {
        try {
          for(int i=0;i<20;i++) {
            System.out.println("Now : "+Thread.currentThread().getName()+i);
            Thread.sleep(200);
            synchronized(this) {
              while(suspend)
                wait();
        } catch(InterruptedException e) {
