FSB Overclock, Computer shuts down after 15 sec

Hello All,
I'm putting together a computer together with the K7N2 Delta board for a friend of the family.  It's a XP2800 chip, with a PNY GeForce Fx 5800, and 256 Crucial mem.  Here's my prob:
The processor wasn't running at full speed so I went into BIOS, changed bus speed to 200MHz.  It obviously should be set to 166MHz, which I learned later.  I was successfully able to set the jumpers for the bus speed back to Safe Mode at 100MHz and then boot back into the BIOS.  Now my problem is that the Motherbaord doesn't stay on more than like 30 secs without shutting off and the only way to restart it is to kill AC power to the board.  At which point, start it again and the process repeats itself.
Does this mean I fried the board and CPU?  I sure as hell hope not
Thanks
Lue

Ok:
Power Supply is 400W max output, it came with the case.
PNY GeForce FX5200 128MB DDR
Crucial 256 DDR2100 Ram
Standard Floppy
LG CDRW
Sony DWD+-RW
WD 120 Gig Hd
WD 40 Gig Hd
SB Audigy2 MP3
The computer WAS working with everything in it. Loaded XP pro fine, did initial driver installs.  Then I went into the BIOS and set the buss to 200MHz.  Then the problems start.
Now, I also checked the CPU fan cause I saw other articles were the CPU was overheating and shutting the computer down.  I booted the it up and went into the PC Health in the BIOS and watched the CPU Core temp go to 45 celcius before I turned it off.  Could it be the comp is overheating and shutting down?
Thanks again
Luke

Are you getting any sort of blue screen before the PC reboots? If so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x\[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
If the blue screen mentions a specific file (for example, “ati3duag.dll”), let us know what that is called too. (Exact spelling, please.)
Here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
If you're not seeing a blue screen (or if you’re just seeing a flash of a blue screen before the PC reboots), we can use the following technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
With those settings in place, does a blue screen appear before the PC reboots?

  • Computer shuts down after exporting H.264 from mts file

My computer shuts down after trying to export a H.264 file from a .mts file. I did this with no problems a few days ago, twice! This time line is longer, about 6.5 minutes. I have a I 5 processor, a gtx 660 graphics card and 8 megs of ram. I exported audio as a wave file and added those to the timeline. In the events panel, I get a message: "file importer detected an inconsistency in the file structure of audience_end_short.wav. Reading and writing this files metadata (xmp) has been disabled". it said the same for another short bit of audio, .wav file. I thought maybe there was a over heating issue, but to no avail. Do I need to get an I 7 processor? Please help!

sorry about the spelling! Still going. About the driver issue. I was updating Geo Force drivers and my friend said to revert to the original install, which I did a while ago. That helped, but obviously didn't cure it. Wonder if I should do the same for windows updates. So although I'm still rendering after 2 hours, perhaps the new user acount will get me through this. So strange that I was able to render/export the exact files the other day. Like I said, this mts clip is longer by a minute. Plus, I got rid of the wav files that had a meta data issue. Thanks for helping me everyone. I'll keep you posted. But I do believe an I 7 processor will at least help in the speed department  right?

  • My computer shuts down after about two minutes of use or at startup. What is the problem?

My computer shuts down after about two minutes of use or at startup. What is the problem?
Yesterday I used it for about ten minutes.
Yesterday was the first time using it after about 5 days.

Could you tell me how to check my system log, and how to tell if it is the disk cache? I am pretty sure it is not the GPU as I was having the problem using a Quadro 4000 as well.
    Thanks!

  • Computer shuts down after inactivity.  Unable to revive.

Computer shuts down after few minutes of inactivity. Fans comes on and power light goes off. Unable to revive unless I "pull the plug" then do a normal reboot. This is something new started approx 3 months ago. I have toyed with the Energy Saver Preference, but only with the scheduling.

What iMac model is this? If it is an early iMac G5, it may be this issue:
    http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/
If you have a third party USB device hooked up when your machine goes asleep (into Energy Saver), it may affect the ability of the machine to wake up since USB goes into low power mode, and the two will be confused how to handle the wake up.
If it is an iMac that is over 4 years old, then it may need a new clock battery.
Check for dust in the power port and power cable.

  • HT3964 I just upgraded to Snow Leopard then Lion and the computer shut down after installation.  Now when it starts up it gets as far as the apple icon and then shuts down again

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard then Lion and the computer shut down after installation.
Now when it starts up it gets as far as the apple icon and then shuts down again
whenever I turn it on it loads that far and then closes.
    HELP!

Restore your bootable backup/clone  or Time Machine backup of Snow Leopard, launch Disk Utility from the install disc, repair the boot volume, and reinstall Lion.

  • Computer shuts down after 5-15 minutes

After 5-15 minutes of inactivity the computer shuts down when on battery. As long as the computer stays active, it will not shut down; ie: netflix watch now not a problem.
Support had me do a hard reset with battery removed; repair permissions; and reset pram; but the problem continues. The Leopard I am using is an upgrade, clean install with latest update. This behavior does not occur when I run the computer off of an external usb inclosure with old Tiger operating system, running on the original disk . So this suggests to me that it is a software and not hardware problem. Also when plugged in the computer will eventually quit and restart on its own.
Is there anything else to try or is archive and install the only option left because I have a corrupted Leopard install ??
    Thanks for any suggestions !!

    rakki,
Just curious. When did this problem start? Possibly when you upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5? (10.4.11 to 10.5.5 even?).
I'm having similar though not identical issues with battery performance that started the day I upgraded to 10.5.5 from 10.4.11.

  • Mail shuts down after 3 secs on ipad 1

Can anyone help with this, my mail shuts down after approx 3 secs of opening on my ipad, have cleared all mail from desk top pc but still happens??

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Computer shuts down after unplugging the power cord

My computer is showing a Plugged in, not charging message, but it is at 88%.  When I unplug the charger from the computer to work somewhere else, the computer totally shuts down and will not power up unless the power charger is plugged in.  I tried taking the battery out and leaving the cord connected and the computer started fine.  How do I get the computer to stop shutting down after unplugging?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like battery #2 has a short. When the system detects a critically low battery, it is likely to devote all power to battery charge until the batery reaches 5% or so. Try each battery seperately. If no power at any time, remove the battery, disconnect the AC adapter. Press the power switch for about ten seconds. Then connect the AC adapter, let it boot, then install the battery and check the charging status. This resets the power manager. I think one battery id bad, but you will need to test them one at a time. Good luck.

  • Please help: programs shut down after 60 sec's

*Please help me:* Since two weeks or so (may be, after I updated my QuickTime), every program I opened *shuts down after roughly 60 seconds*. It is not closed but it gets out of the writing mode so that I need to click on the page first before being able to continue writing again (Word, email, also this thread). If I do not always look at my page I loose words and have to retype them again. Also, with backspacing it occurs: it gets out of the enter mode. I am not aware I changed anything in the user mode of my dear power book.
    Thank you for helping! rororoger

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Try starting up in Safe Mode. If can do so successfully, log in, Empty Trash, Restart normally and log in.
    If issue persists Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior

  • My computer shuts down after being unplugged

My powerbook G4 sometimes shuts down when I unplug it, even though the battery is fully charged. This seems to happen more often when I unplug it and then pick it up (or put it down). After I restart it, the clock and date have been reset to 1970.
Any ideas of what may be wrong?

    Hi c,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
How long does your PB run on the batt when it does not shut down after removing the power adapter? If a very short time, you may have a nearly dead batt, and the backup batt, even if it is still operational, only lasts a few minutes; once that is dead too, then date and time are reset.
I should have said this first, but just noticed that you said movement seems to cause the issue. That strongly suggests a loose battery. The "fix" can be as simple as wedging a thin piece of rubbery material between the battery compartment and the battery itself, on the side opposite the contacts, to make the contacts remain in contact at all times (earlier models had this issue, but it was supposedly fixed on later models, yet we still hear about it periodically).

  • Shutting down after 10 sec of inacivity and can't put to sleep

New computer, have been using for about 1 month. Anyways, nothing I've noticed that could have trigerred this change...
When the computer is inactive for only 10 sec it will shut down. Losing all my unsaved data. Really annoying. I can't do anything. When writting an email, I can't stop tyoing because my computer will shut down.
I have also tried setting it to sleep but it will not. It only shuts down.
I have changed the Energy Save to a schedule. It does not work either.
Any ways to change the shutting down feature to never?

Are you certain you haven't downloaded/installed anything lately? It's not normal for the Macbook to shut down without warning and as frequently as what you describe. Is the battery fully charged - and the power supply shows a small green light on it? I'd suggest an SMC and Pram reset for starters (links below). After this, launch DIsk Utility (in Utilities Folder) and verify/repair both the hard drive and permissions.

  • My computer shuts down after 45 seconds from when I push the power button. Anyone have an idea why?

After pushing and holding the power button on my Mac the apple screen comes on and after a few seconds there is a loading bar that tries to load something for a few seconds then it shuts down. I would say it is approximately 45-50 seconds after pushing the power button. Power comes on then shuts right off. This all originated when I tries to log in as a different user. It froze for a while, then I shut down the computer with the power button. Because I couldn't so it from the apple icon on the desk top

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
