Fsb question// prescott 2.4a

when i go into the cpu settings it will only let me set the mhz to 133
my board says it supports 533 fsb and the cpu is a 533 am i not understanding something?

Inte calculates the FSB in Quadrate so every 1Mhz FSB = 4MHz FSB in actual, so when you have 133MHz(133.33MHz in actual) x 4 = 533MHz and same for the FSB 800MHz CPUs where you'll only see 200MHz shown in BIOS as you'll need to take 200MHz quadrate = 800MHz.
No worries, your system is detecting the CPU correctly .

  • MSI P45 Neo3-FR ver2: FSB question

Helli, can you help me please with questions about this mobo. I'm not an expert, so sorry if I'm asking some dumb stuff.
So, I had to change my old motherboard during warranty service. It was Gigabyte GA-P45-DS3LR, so they replaced it by MSI P45 Neo3-FR ver2.
    Other hardware:
    CPU: Core 2 Dou E 8500
    GPU: Gigabyte Radeon HD4850
RAM: Patriot something on 800 MHz
    BIOS: 4.5.
So after 1 week of using this mobo I noticed, that some games and software loading longer than before on old mobo, which I used more than a year.
I installed Everest, CPU-Z, and MSI's Dual Core Center just to look at me system... and they show something strange in FSB.
As I know, my CPU should work at 333 (x6/9.5), and in BIOS it shows Current Clock 333x9.5. But all monitoring programs show 332.
Then I went to Dual Core Center -> Motherboard Clock to FSB adjusting. It shows 332 and next line 333, highlighted green (shows that this is default, i suppose). I switched FSB to 333, Dual Core Center start to show 333, but Everest and CPU-Z - 334 (here is screen shots: http://img132.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=332a.jpg ).
Then I switched FSB to  - all monitors shows 334. Then I flashed BIOS to 4.4, booted with defaults, settings in BIOS was 333x9.5, but monitoring programs start to show 334. Then I flashed BIOS back to 4.5.
So, can anybody say - this is motherboard issue or something else? On old mobo all was fine, how it suppose to be, in Everest and CPU-Z.
And also, when I enable power saving I have maximum 2 LED lights even at 100% of CPU load - that means 50% of energy consumption?

First of all: Uninstall Dual Core Center or make at least sure that it does not automatically start when Windows starts (it has the power to modify the FSB Clock Speed and may be a factor here).
Then:  Unplug your PSU from A/C power and >>Clear CMOSe<<. Then load "opitmized Defaults" in BIOS Setup and Disable Spread Spectrum before your save settings and exit.
    That may already help.
In any case, smalll deviations from the set clock speed in BIOS or not unusual.  They are not really a sign of any damage or defect and they also do not have any functional consequence whatsoever.

  • @FSB QUESTION

?( Hello, i have a KM2M COMBO MS-6738, in the quick user guide say that the chipset work a fsb 200/266MHz, but when i look the setup it say "Current FSB Frequency 133 MHz", why is it? or where can i adjust this Frequency to 266MHz?
    thank you

Yap, nothing wrong with your system/component.
It is running at 133 Mhz FSB DDR which also means 266 Mhz FSB.
Be careful when changing the FSB in the BIOS, if you change it too high (overclock), you might damage the CPU or your MOBO. If you are not sure about overclocking, you might be better off stay at default value ie 133 Mhz.

  • Increasing the FSB question...n00b!

OK, I'm using an KTV4L with a +1700 CPU. If I drop the multiplier, and increase the FSB to 166, will it be stable? If so, how much more heat will it generate? Or is this just a bad idea all together?
    lol
    thanx

not a great deal more, depends on overall speed it ends up at
provided your ram can take it it will be faster

  • MSI nForce K7N2 BIOS FSB question

I recently bought an MSI K7N2-ILSR Delta motherboard which supports a FSB setting of 400 MHz.  I also purchased an AMD Athlon XP "Barton" 3000+ with a FSB of 400 Mhz.  I was looking in the users guide of the motherboard and in Advanced Chipset Features in the CPU FSB Clock setting...it says that you can input 100~200 Mhz...is your FSB double the amount you put for this field??
    Thanks,
    Travis

the fsb works with ddr methods.
    double data rate.
that means data is sent twice each clock cycle.
100mhz real frequency is 200mhz virtual frequency.
    200 is 400.

  • Satellite Pro A300 PSAG9C-01500Y - FSB question

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on possibly upgrading my new [Satellite Pro A300 PSAG9C-01500Y|http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.grp?lg=en&section=1&group=1&product=8270&p art=8813#spectop] to a different model.
I do not use this system for gaming or anything like that, mostly Office 2007, web browsing, media and programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Nothing too high end.
My model has 800MHz, but after looking at a few different models I see that for $100 or so I can get a higher FSB speed (1066MHz) Like the model [PSAG9C-01J00Y|http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.grp?lg=en&section=1&group=1&product=8270&p art=9131#spectop] which has a little faster CPU as well.
One of the things I have noticed as well is the max Ram for my system is 8GB and most others are only 4GB. I will not be using 64 bit windows, so it doesn't matter anyway.
I would mainly like to know if it is worth worrying about the FSB. I understand how FSB works and what it does, I am just not sure if i need to worry about it.
Any advice or suggestions are most welcome.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi
In your case the FSB speed is not really important if you want to use your notebook only for Office 2007, web browsing or webdesign.
The higher FSB is useful if you want to use high performance memory modules with higher speed.
For example; youve got FSB of 533Mhz and memory modules of 800Mhz the inserted memory modules would NOT run at 800Mhz because the lower FSB would slow down the memory speed.
But as I said a higher FSB is not really important if you dont use the notebook for high-end gaming.

  • Help me! Having CPU Cooling problems!

    Howdy
I'm having serious problems with my P.C. I have recently upgraded my PC's processor from a celeron 2 ghz to Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz 478Pin 1Mb Cache 800MHz FSB Processor Prescott, I Installed the processor with the standard Intel Heatsink and core centre was telling me that the CPU was running at around 59+ degrees celcius 138+ degrees farenheit at idle.
I thought that this was a little hot at my celaron didn't push past 45 degrees c. while idling
I thought nothing of it putting it down to faster cpu high temperature... I decided to run a game to see the difference my hard earned cash had made, the first thing that came to hand was "The Sims 2" which ran perfectly on my celaron if not a little boggy at times.
The game booted quicker and i got into a game to see how much smoother it was running and the game hung.
I thought that maybe it was a because it had a new processor and it needed a reboot, which i did and i checked out the game again and it did exactly the same thing.
I thought that maybe the cpu was getting a bit hot so i turned the machine off and went out the next day to purchase another couple of coolingfans to create more convection in the case.
I fitted the fans dragging air from the front and the side and blowing out of the back, this had an effect on the temperature of the cpu but not by much, It was now running at 52 to 55 degrees at ldle (at the Bios)
I decided that this temperature at idle was too high and the fact that fact that it was crashing games (That my girlfriend likes to play) I thought that I would take the leap to liquid cooling so I purchased the Coolermaster Aquagate liquid cooling system I installed the system and fired my system up it was still reading at 52 degrees at the bios.
When the machine got to windows the temperature slowly increased and when I tried to run the same game it crashed ( due to what i found later was the processor throttling to prevent damage)
One thing that i found strange was the temperature on the gauge of the AQUAGATE which has a hardwire temperature sensor that sits on top of the di of the processor and that was reading around 27 degrees at the bios.
I thought that it may have been a faulty processor so i sent the processor back and recieved a replacement which had the same problem although alot worse ( 65-70 degrees at the bios)
I have sent that one back and I'm awaiting the replacement.
I would like to know if there is actually a problem with the motherboard itself or just a problem with the temperature sensor settings in the bios.
or if there is a bios update that can prevent my processor from throttling and crashing everything.
Please help as I really like this Motherboard and I can't afford to buy a new one.
    Matt

    Howdy all!
Got my chip back from novatech, I updated the Bios to V2.5, ditched Corecentre and replaced it with speed fan (pretty cool!).
Put the chip in and everything seems to be running okay...ish
The only thing that's bothering me a little is that its still posting temperatures of around 48 degrees C, at idle.
which is okay but I'm using a watercooling system so I thought that it would be a lot lower than that I am aware that Prescotts do run hot but i didn't think that it would be this hot.
Maybe I'm being dumb and this is a good temperarture but I was hoping that It may be a bit lower so I could maybe overclock it.
Could anyone suggest anything I could do to bring the temperature down a tad?
Many Thanks to Danny and Dcasole that pointed me in the right direction with the BIOS, my girlfriend can now play The Sims 2 and will stop nagging me, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  • Whats your take on a good graphics card?

    hi all
at the moment i was looking in investing in buying a new graphics card, my old one i believe is past its prime so i wanna get a better card.
so can someone help me out here?
i havent had to look at graphics cards for a while and a top notch card back when i bought my card was my geforce 4 ti 4200 and im just confused with all the geforce 5xxx range of cards and whats better than what, i wanna know whats the go in terms performance and price.?

It's good for playing OpenGL games.
However, all of the FX series have crappy DirectX9 performance.  They are so bad that HL2 defaults to treating them as DX8.1 cards to get decent performance out of them.

  • DRAM:FSB Ratio Question

I'm new to OCing & have put a mild 3GHz OC on my CPU. Everything is stable, the only thing I'm concerned about is my DRAM:FSB ratio. It is 6:5. I thought 1:1 is ideal & have been trying to search all morning on the means to achieve it before asking the question here. Here's what my Cell Bios look like.
    D.O.T.= Disabled
    Intel EIST= Disabled
    System Clock Mode = Linked
    FSB Clock (MHz) = 1333
Adjusted Dram Freq = 800 (greyed out)
    Adjusted CPU Freq = 9
    Adjusted DRAM Config = 4-4-4-15, 22trc, 2T
    Adjusted PCI-E Freq = 100
    CPU Voltage = 0
    Memory Voltage = 2.1
    UTT FSB Voltage = 1.2
    NB Voltage 1.2
    SB Core Power = 1.5
    Spread Spectrum = Disabled
It is my understanding that I don't need to up my voltages for a 3GHz OC. I got my memory timings stable after I discovered I have a bad HD & replaced them. What do I need to do to get to 1:1 or should I even be concerned about it?  Everthing is stable at this point & I'll stick with 3GHz until I can learn more.

I also noticed that Vantage also didn't get my FSB correct, I am running 417 but it showed 333. It also showed wrong clocks for my graphics card OC.

  • Some question and problems on FSB:Dram

Hi to all, i have a simple question fo you (i hope that's simple :D )
I have a p4 3.2 GHz like you can see here:
FSB is 200Mhz and it's ok
But i have 4 pc3200 ram modules in dual channel mode, i think that their frequency must be 200Mhz but it's only 160, and i can't activate pat, like yuo can see here:
    Now my question is: Why?
    Thank to all

To obtain 1:1 ratio, you must set your DRAM Frequency to 400MHz in BIOS and make sure that DDR Clock is reading it at 400MHz also before saving to CMOS. Check with CPU-Z again and you'll see that it'll display 200MHz(RAMs are double rated where you've to multiply the rates by 2) and ratio at 1:1.
    Isn't so easy...
    My actual configuration:
    Dynamic Overclocking: Private
Performance Mode: Slow (If i put fast or greater... KABOOM :D)
    CPU Ratio: Locked
    DRAM Frequency: 400Mhz
    Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    Adjust CPU Bus Clock(Mhz): 200
DDR Clock: 333 (Adjust AGP/PCI Clock (Mhz): 66.66/33.33
    CPU Vcore Adjust: NO
    CPU Vcore: 1.5500V
    DDR Power Voltage: 2.65V
    AGP Power Voltage: 1.55V
    I can't understend why DDR Clock is 333 :(

  • Reached 310 FSB !!! Unlocking 14xMulti on 3.2 Prescott ? MSI already did it like ASUS !

hi there , first sorry for bad english :-)
i found a interesting feature/bug in bios version 1.9 on Neo 2 (6728 v1.0), running a 3.2 prescott on that board gives me a 14xmutli instead of 16x so i could run my fsb 310 instead of 275 before. looks like this only works on the 1.9 version of this bios. is this not the same like asus do on their new "unlock" feature for intel cpus ?
now my neo2 burned off and got a Neo 2-P (6728 v2.0) and this feature is gone, please MSI could you not implement this "bug" on/off switchable in current bios ? so many users would be happy !

    Wow! That's a great OC!
Do you also have to change the memory timings when you do this? my infineon run on 3 3 4 8.
Is there anything else one has tweak before doing this or can i just go to bios and set it to 1.49V and 310FSB?
If one can achive such good OC it might be worth it to get liquid cooling. If i get liquid cooling will it make much difference?

  • Question about CPU FSB and K7N2-L

This is probably a nub question, but here goes anyway:
I currently have an 1800 XP Palomino processor which supports 266mhz fsb.  I just installed this board with this processor and left all the jumpers at default.  After reading the manual it says I should short jumper J11 (133/166mhz) on the mobo, and make the appropriate settings in the bios to achieve 266mhz for the cpu fsb.  Now, I know it says this in the manual, but I thought I'd better make sure that this is the right procedure before I go ahead and do it so I don't screw anything up.
If anyone could help me out on this it would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA

Cheers... it's interesting how many people make that mobo/RAM choice. I use a K7N2G-L with Crucial PC2700 DDR (2x256) and it works fine. Kudos on reading the manual, frequently it has the answers you're looking for. You're correct... make sure J10 (FSB Mode Jumper-133MHz position) and J11 (FSB Frequency Jumper-133/166 position) are set correctly, BIOS settings on the "Advanced Chipset Features" page are correct for your processor/RAM, and you should be all set. There is a good article on driver loading order (by liquidsoul) on the http://www.amdforums.com site... look under "MSI Motherboards".

  • A question about an error after changing FSB

Here is what I am running
    MSI K7T266 Pro
    AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4ghz processor
    512 DDR RAM
    Geforce 3 Ti 500
Intel 21041-Based PCI Ethernet Adapter (Generic) #2
Now I loaded my FSB at 100 and it runs fine but only at 1.050 ghz instead of 1.4.
I try running at 133 FSB and it runs at 1.4 till I try to install anything and it crashes my computer and corrupts my HDD and gives me a 'serious error' message of:
    BCCode : d1     BCP1 : FFFFFFA3     BCP2 : 00000010     BCP3 : 00000001
    BCP4 : F81EB965     OSVer : 5_1_2600     SP : 0_0     Product : 768_1
Now I want to know what this means?
I cleared my CMOS and now I only got the error message once when I tried to install the drivers for my sound card.  and I can install DOOM 3 now without getting the reboot and 'serious error' message.

The latest memtest86 installer/extractor creates its own boot diskette (with its own boot files).  Just boot with the diskette, memtest86 does its thing, no user interaction required.
Alternatively, an .ISO image is now available that is suitable for creating a self-booting memtest86 CD.

  • Question on FSB, CPU ratio and VCore

    Hi:
I have been reading several postings on overclocking CPU. As far I can tell, people recommended increasing the FSB freq. in the BIOS until it cannot boot any longer.
I have KT3 Ultra, Athlon XP 1800+, and DDR 333MHz.
?( How does changing the FSB freq. affects DDR freq? Is it 1:2 ratio? For example, if FSB = 133 MHz, then DDR is 266 MHz. If so, is FSB limited by DDR rated freq?
?( Does changing the FSB actually changes the clock signal feeds into the CPU?
?( Does changing the FSB only affect CPU? Does it affects the PCI bus?
?( What is CPU ratio? Is it an internal clock multiplier to the CPU?
?( How does CPU VCore affect the overclock?
