FSRM reporting

Dear all,
I have file server with a dedicated disk for user data. There is a root folder called HOME and then all the sub-folders are dedicated to each user. Also I have created
a Quota Template with a hard quota of 10GB and this is applied to all these folders.
However I have come across a recent error were some users get the following message when they try to save to their user folder, the message is:
“There is not enough space on…”
The strange thing is the user has not exceeded their quota limit and furthermore when I look in the FSRM management console and locate the affected user the “% Used”
shows that they have over 100% used.
I have tried the following:
Removed the quota template from the user and re-added to no effect
Can anyone help with this issue? It looks like a bug with the FSRM reporting?

Hi,
Generally if it is caused by FSRM (like files are deleted but not re-calculated), it will be fixed with recreating quota settings.
Could you confirm if user exceeded the quota limit? Sometimes the size of a folder will not be displayed correctly when we do not have permission to read a part of files inside.
If you have any feedback on our support, please send to [email protected]

  • FSRM report limits using PowerShell

    I am following this article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2014/05/20/set-fsrm-storage-report-limits-using-powershell.aspx
I did have this working just fine, but after installing Windows Updates today on a 2012 R2 box this functionality breaks the GUI. Now, any time you try to edit a report you are hit with Event ID 0, 'file server resource manager value is not valid' and a
GUI error of 'Unexpected Error. Value of 1000 is not valid for 'Value'. 'Value' should be between 'Minimum' and 'Maximum'.
The report still runs, but you cannot view in the GUI until you again use PowerShell to decrease the limits back to default.
Any ideas on how to fix? (Other than removing the updates) Seems a recent Windows Update has broken this.

The Windows Update version is the latest available. So if you have a 2012 R2 server and install every available update, that's the level I'm at. It was a recent update that seems to have broken this, I just don't know which one.
The parameter was already set to 1,000 and was working fine. The default is 100, and any value greater than 100 now produces the GUI error.
Newly created reports also produce the same error. I stress that the reports do still run with the value of 1,000 set by PowerShell, it's just the GUI that does not recognise the values set by PowerShell.
Looks like a bug in a recent Windows Update.

  • FSRM reporting quote usage larger than the actual Size

File server resource manager is reporting quote usage larger than the actual Size or even “Size on Disk”. The only theory I have so far is that the FSRM is counting data in Shadow Copy. Does FSRM count data in Shadow Copy?

    Hi,
Please check if you turn on the NTFS file system compression functionality or if you compress the files that you own on an NTFS volume. If so, the disk quota that you are charged increases.

  • FSRM 2008 R2 reporting inaccurate quota usage amounts

I've got a Win2008r2 Enterprise server with FSRM 2008R2 installed.  I switched someone's quota from soft to hard when they reached 472% of their quota, to try to curb their appetite for disk space!  They cleaned things up significantly, and came
well under their usage limit.  They then tried to save something and they can't.  I have disabled and re-enabled their quota, I've ensured there are no nested quotas, but it still shows the % Used as 472%.  I've emptied their directory completely
and refreshed the FSRM view and still no luck.
I'm unable to determine the correct version of FSRM.  Does anyone know how to tell if I'm running Update2 or not, or if there are any updates to it at all that are available?  I am at my wits end trying to get this thing to refresh!
    Thanks,
    Joe

I have the same problem for one of 2198 quotas (so far).  The same directory quota (hard quota) for one particular user has reached 100% and blocked access 4 times now.  I can delete the quota and re-create it and it will work for a couple
months before it denies access again.  There is nothing unique about this user that I know of.  I have had no other reports of people being denied access due to quota so I think it is isolated to this one user.
    Thank you,
    Scott

    Anybody have any ideas?

    Hi,
From the error message, it failed because of "invalid argument: storagetype = '101' ".
101 means the storage type is "system" + "cache". Is there any change on your storage before the issue occurs? For example whether the source storage is changed?

  • Windows 2008 R2 FSRM Quota Management

Having issues with Windows 2008 R2 FSRM Quota Management.  We have everyones Home drives setup with a quota.  We have different quotas for different people and the Quota % Used is not matching what is in there Home drive.  One user went as
far to delete all but 4GB on his drive with a 150GB Quota and its still showing at 91% used.
Been like this for weeks(user Claims).
    Any thoughts
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Hi,
Do you turn on the NTFS file system compression on the NTFS volume? In so, you may go over your disk quota limit even if you had plenty of free disk space available before you compressed the files.

  • FSRM - Can I see all files of a particular type in File Group - Server 2012 R2

    Hi folks,
Just wondering can anyone help me with this!
I've selected a Files by File Group report and selected Audio and Video Files, Executable Files and image files but when I set the maximum number of files in any file group per report to 999999999 (max allowed) it only says the top 100 files are shown
    in the following file groups.
Is there any way that I can tweak FSRM so it shows me all the files in that particular file group that has over 100 files on the drive that I am scanning?
    Thanks,
    Bonemister

    Hi Bonemister,
As you said it is a limitation of FSRM in current version. It will only display top 100 files. I'm sure that development team know the requirement of showing more files in report but currently there is no news about an upgrade version.

  • FSRM and Quota's showing incorrect values

    Hi,
I have set up folder quota's, and on one folder I have set it to 100GB.  This Quota shows as 99% used, but the actual folder in Explorer shows only as 28GB used.  What am I missing, or set up wrong, or is there a fix that needs to
be applied? (I don't think my maths is that bad as I am pretty sure 28 is not 99% of 100.)
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction.
    Thanks!
    Ben

I think I have a similar situation with my file cluster here, and this thread seems to be the closes I have found to what I'm seeing. For starters my file cluster servers up shares for my users, these shares are spread across 9 drives, and I have a folder
quota on the share of each drive. For example:
My username is jspatton, so my files are stored on
\\people\i\jspatton the physical drive on the server is the K: drive and the root folder is I (for users I - J). This folder is shared out, and this folder is where the quota is applied. I have it set at 640GB hard, and I have 80GB available to grow into
as needed. I think this is fairly common for most folks out there.
My problem started about 5 days ago when one of my disks dropped to under 1gb of free space. I have a script that runs on my file servers that emails me when a drive drops below a certain threshold. I received that email 5 days ago, followed by a notification
in SCOM that the disk was low. When I logon to the note the node and open Windows Explorer, I see that the free space is indeed under 1gb. When I use powershell to show me free-space I get a similar answer.
The odd thing for me is disk management. Down below in the graphical portion it's reporting the disk as 678GB NTFS which is accurate in an attempt to resolve the quota issue I set the quota to max space. But up above it's reporting something different.
    V: 550gb (capacity) 830mb (free)
The disk is basic, and is in fact 678GB here is the info from fsrm which is also interesting..and maybe i'm just missing something.
    Quota details V:
    Limit 678GB (Hard)
    Used 547GB (80%), Peak Usage: 547GB (80%) Peak Time 3:/16/2012 10:23PM
    Available 131GB
    Volume Details V:
    Capacity 550GB
    Hard quota allocation 678GB (123%)
    available 477 MB
    What have I done recently?
I increased the quota to equal the total space of the disk.
I disabled the quota and re-enabled it
On the file server I have emptied the recycle bin, but I don't really think that has an impact on those folders.
If anyone can shed some light I would be very grateful.
    Thanks!

  • Storage Reports aren't finding known file types

I have a Windows Server 2008R2 file server and I've configured a "Files by File Group" report to find audio/music and image files on a specific drive.  The report isn't finding all of the WMA and JPEG/JPG files on the drive.  I manually
ran a search for the WMAs and came up with 3,963 WMA files (16GB), whereas the Storage Report Manager report only showed one file.  I'm trying to determine why the report isn't finding these (and possibly) file types.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
Currently I cannot help testing this behavior. I assume you are using FSRM for doing this job. Please check if .WMA and .JPG (or JPEG) is added in "audio/music and image files" groups. There should be a button to add file type to a group.

  • Looking for reporting options on specific folder sizes

I need to devise a way to report on the size of specific folders on our Windows 2012 R2 file server. I haven't found at FSRM does this yet. I've tried some Powershell scripts that get about half way there but they throw errors if file name/paths exceed
260 characters. Has anyone found a method or product to report just on folder sizes without these limits?
    Orange County District Attorney

    Hi,
PowerShell does not support more than 260 char. If you cannot decrease the folder and file names, as workaround, please refer to the articles below to resolve the issue:

  • FRSM Randomly Reports Incorrect Quota Usage

We are using Server 2008 with FSRM 6.1 and are randomly seeing some quotas reporting incorrectly that they are at 100%. If the folder is checked they are well under the quota but FRSM still reports it as 100% even after a refresh.
The only way that I have seen the quotas reporting as normal is when we delete them and recreate them but it returns a few weeks later.
This is only happening on one file server (we have several that FRSM manages the quota allocations for) and disk compression has not been turned on for that volume. This also is not happening to every quota on that volume, only some.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Firstly, please refer to the thread to check if the disk usage of the folder is reported correctly:
Server 2008R2 reports disk size/free space incorrectly in explorer and disk manager

Then check if your current account have permissions to access subfolders. If the user does not have permission to access all subfolder. The size of some folders will not be counted with right click on a folder.

I hope you are using reason for rejection for cancelling quotations. If that is the case, you can use transaction VA25 to view the list of quotations. Here you can filter on two columns status and reason for rejection to view the report as per your requirement.
