FTP 101: Filezilla etc and OSX Lion

Will someone clever please tell us newbies how to fix the problem:
I have been using Filezilla (before that, Cyberduck) to upload files to my older style HTML website. I just installed Lion and there is a big cross sign through the latest Filezilla icon saying "PowerPC programs don't work under Lion." I read posts from people saying it works, other posts talking about another kind of FTP on the Mac itself,  and lots of talk of SFTP and command line stuff.
For we who just use these apps by pushing buttons and moving on when they work, can you list step by step what we need to do to get Filezilla working again, or point to a different program to download? It would be so, so appreciated. If I need to go back and reinstall my entire previous Snow Leopard machine from my bootable clone, tell me that and I'll do it. I have a long lost of to-do's and can't spend days experimenting with clean installs (however you do those).
Thanking you!

Guys, I'm completely embarrassed.
I knew about Power PC apps no longer being supported etc but thought I had to latest version of Filezilla.
It is because I was reading superceded posts even in this forum saying it can't be done. I think a fundamental problem with the internet is it needs to return the results in date order ... I'd like to delete this entire thread now, but maybe it will help others remember to check the dates of stuff they read. Thank you!
PS Interestingly, a software developer friend, a bit of a guru, told me tonight that I should remove Lion and go back immediately to Snow Leopard - that Apple is going the way of iPad etc - "focussing on the devices that make the most money". Well, after destroying a couple of original images in Preview today by trying to do "Save As" in the newfangled way, I'm not sure what to think!
Thanks again!

could a 2012 macbook pro from the factory been loaded by the factory with both Snow Leopard AND OSX Lion?

I think MBPs stopped coming with Snow Leopard installed as of the late-2011 models. That's when OS X Lion started being pre-installed on MBPs. Some earlier MBP models (2010, early-2011) had a firmware update to allow Internet Recovery (command+option+r) which would allow a reinstall of OS X Lion (purchased from the App Store) with the purchaser's AppleID/password.
I don't believe SL would even install on a 2012 MBP.

  • Pros and cons of having OSX Snow leopard and OSX Lion on the same Computer

Disclaimer : I am not an expert,my experience with Computers is trial and catastrophic errors.
If one owns an early Intel Mac say 2009 and want to have OSX Lion and or Snow Leopard on a partitioned HD.My setup is typical I use my Bundled DVD and clean format HD ,intall Snow Leopard ,update all and then go to App store download Lion and then you chose your set up .
Most would upgrade to lion by installing on top of snow leapard.
I chose to install lion alone on a partition.
Today I was talking to Apple about an issue with accessing repair and disk permissions on an encrypted volume in Lion recovery Disk Utilities usually greyed out because one must turn off File Vault then go to Lion Recovery Disk Utilities by Start up ,press options the 2 partitioned volumes 1 Lion 2 Snow Leopard 3rd volume  Lion recovery Disk Utilities.
,If File Vault is on it will not be there but when one selects volume 1 Lion and Command and R  Lion recovery Disk Utilities appears but Lion Volumeo Recovery Disk Utilities will be greyed out you go tho unmount and it will prompt you for a Lion Password.
While doing this and repairing I encounted a Storage can not be repaired Error in red, Apple told me that  Lion Recovery Disk Utilities related issues are not supported if one has Snow Leoopard and Lion on a partitoned HD.
So one must upgrade on top of SnowLeaopard or use the Snow Leopard Bundled DVD to erase the volume 2 SnowLeopard ,then all will be well !
So what happens with Mountain Lion when using Snow Leopard Macs ?

  • 2010 Mac Mini and OSX Lion

    Hi Everyone,
Hoping I can get some advice.
I have a 2010 Mac Mini and am thinking about upgrading to OSX Lion.
Although I know my Mac meets the system requirments (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2Gb RAM), I was wondering what the performace is like on with these specs.
I mainly use my Mac for iTunes, Safari, Twitter and iPhoto if that makes any difference.
    Thanks!

It works ok for me, I've got a 2010 mini (base model) and am using it as a server for web, iTunes and VPN. It handles lion fine, the only quibble is that being always on it heats up during the day a lot, more so than when I had Snow leopard installed. It's not to unacceptable levels though. But as dingy and beezelbubba say, Ram is cheap nowadays and if you've got the spare cash it's always worth it.

  • Desktop Software Mac and OSX Lion

Does anyone have experience with DTS Mac after upgrading to OSX Lion? It took me ages and a complete reinstall to get it working under Snow Leopard, and I am a 'little' reluctant to have to go through that again.
Does upgrading affect the functionality of DTS mac?

Just download latest version from here

  • Parallels Desktop and OSX Lion?

I have os Snow Leopard and would like to upgrade to Lion. I heard that Parallels Desktop 5 doesn't work on Lion. What do I need to do to install Lion and upgrade to Parallels 7 without reinstalling all the Windows programs that I am already using?

Parallels 7 full supports Lion OSX. I wouldn't use 5 because it is not supported, version 6 should also work .
Try ebay , I got my Parallels 7 for $49

  • Final Cut Studio 2 and OSX Lion issues

I tried to upgrade to Lion on my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro, but afterward I tried to startup Final Cut Pro 6 (which is part of FCS 2), only to be told that FCP6 is a PowerPC application and it wouldn't run. I don't understand this, since I have Shake 4.1 installed on the same computer, and both applications are Universal Binary; after the lion install Shake still continued to work (Shake is older than FCS2, and Motion replaced Shake) while FCP didn't! I had to wipe my haddrive and downgrade back to Snow Leopard, just to use FCP6! What gives?

Pardon the snarky reply, but from a professional editing point of view, one NEVER updates a working machine, unless something is offered in the new OS that one needs right then and there.  And when one does update, one needs to do a boatload of research first, to make sure that every application they rely on is compatible with the new OS.  Because if it isn't, it means the edit station cannot function properly, and that means that one cannot work and make money with that station.  So ALWAYS look, and look well, before you leap.
You want to make use of iCloud, when it is "finally rolled out."  OK, why not wait to update the OS until it is rolled out?  You don't need it now, you need it when a feature comes available.  SO use what you have until it comes, and then research to make sure things work.  And if you really need iCloud, can you not just get another computer with Lion to access all of that?  So that your current system can run under the OS that it works well?  And yes, Studio 2 might have worked under all those previous OSes, but support for the old software will stop at some point, because Apple looks back only so far.  So this might be the point where it doesn't work.
But really, FCP 6 and LION might be an issue.  I do know that the INSTALLER for FCS2 is PowerPC based, and requires Rosetta, and Rosetta isn't included in Lion.  Lion not working with Apple's own software?  Well, yes, it does, the NEWER ones.  The older software?  As I said, they extend support only so far...they can't keep looking back if they want to look forward.  If you want things to always work with the latest OS, then you need newer software.  You cannot expect the older software do always just work...it won't.
Especially since FCP X is out...Apple doesn't give a hoot about supporting the older versions.

  • IPhoto and OsX Lion

I recently was messing around with iPhoto on my Macbook Pro, which is running Lion, and I noticed while I was assigning names to faces on my pictures the main clipboard slightly flashed.  The flash turned out to be my mouse scrolling over the clipboard and anything it scrolled over it flaced the "places" display.  Almost as if the "faces" clipboard was becoming transparent and the "places" was shinning through.  I don't know what kind of an issue this is.  The only other issue I had was my airport assigned itself an IP.  This caused me to reformat, simply because I didn't want to dick with it and I feared I might have had a trojan virus because of a previous warning.  Please somebody shed some light on this topic,  everything I have is up to date and the MacBook is a early 11 release, the new model that came out.  Thank you, I am still learning the ways of the Mac

The latest version of iMovie,  Garageband and I think also iPhoto require Mavericks.    You can instal the ilife '11 applications - if you buy a copy on DVD from for example Amazon.  You will also be able to update them from the App store to the last version compatible with the operating system you are using.
If you purchased Mountain Lion then it should be possible to re-download it from the App Store.  It won't be listed on the mac running Mavericks but I would expect it to be available on the macs running Lion, especially if the harware doesn't support Mavericks.
    Geoff.

  • BLACKBERRY DESKTOP SOFTWARE and OSX Lion

    Dear all
I have a new MacPro with latest OS XLion and after installed blackberry desktop software all system started go very slowly.
I called Apple support and  they told me that BB has not any update that works with new OS X Lion system and installing and sync with BB software is not suggested
Since this is an important issues as  I'm using BB for professional work I'll need to have such synchronization possible. How can I?
Thank you for your prompt help

Well, to me, it doesn't seem correct that BB is not compatible with Lion !?
I am using at the moment of writing this message the latest BB desktop software on my MB Pro 15 "mid-2010" and os X Lion without ANY problem of speed.
Just had an issue with the transition to iCloud (as many other people) obliging me to "repatriate" manually all my calendar and contact files!
For the rest, everything runs smoothly on my MAC
Just check that you really have the latest version of the software through the update menu command.
Really?  Here is the article from Blackberry: - Just talked to them AGAIN and the answer is that yes I will be in a continuos loop with over 25% of my entries changing every other time I synch.  Stupid
Syncing calendar events from the BlackBerry smartphone using BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac causes multiple modifications to existing events
    Article ID: KB25147
    Product(s) Affected:
    BlackBerry® Desktop Software (Mac OS)
    Overview
When a sync is carried out with BlackBerry® Desktop Software for Mac and both the BlackBerry® smartphone and the calendar program on the Mac contain the same appointments or a large number of the same appointments the Mac sync alert appears showing modifications to those appointments already in the calendar on the Mac.
    BlackBerryDesktop Software (Mac OS)
    Mac OS
The issue occurs because appointments on the BlackBerry smartphone are categorized as 'public' or 'private'. The appointments by default are 'public' and a checkbox within the appointment details allows a user to mark it as private.Cause
As an example, iCal appointments do not have this categorization so when the sync takes places the BlackBerry smartphone data has this extra field being pushed and whilst iCal cannot display this data, the truth database in the Mac itself can store that information. This means that the data stored in the Mac truth table has this field added to its stored data.
The software is working as designed. Those modifications should be accepted.Resolution------
SOOOOOO - you accept and then synch - no problem.  Close computer - open again - try to synch and get exact same message.  Iphone is the answer.

  • HP Laserjet CP1515n and OSX Lion

I'm trying to connect my networked Laserjet to my MacBook. It's identified in the 'add printer' window, and tries to install software for the printer, but the process fails with the message:
The software for this printer is currently unavailable. Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software.
Does anyone know what that's about?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
By testing the exact same model I were able to configure the product and could not replicate any similar behaviour.
Please try updating the firmware of your printer, that is one major difference I could notice as your printer have a very outdated firmware version:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=lj-68735-6&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
After updating the firmware, try adding the pritner and check foir any difference.
If the same issue persists, please try the following steps:
Enter System Preferences > Print & Scan.
Click the Plus button and select the pritner.
Click the Print Using drop down menu and then click Select Printer Software.
Type CP1510 into the Filter search box - Can you see the HP Color LaserJet CP1510 Series listed?
If so select it, click OK, Then click Add.
If you cannot see the specific model listed, type PCL into the Filter search box - Can you see the HP Laserjet Series PCL 4/5?
If so select it, click OK, Then click Add.
Please let me know of any change, and if the same persists clarify the answers for steps 4 and 5.

  • Is anybody else getting external MIDI clock tempo issues using Logic Pro 9 and OSX Lion 10.7.5?

I am having really serious tempo issues when sending midi clock to any external device - The tempo wavers and alternates around 5 bpm above and below the tempo set, and to be frank is totally unuasable when trying to clock arps from hardware synths.
I have the problem both with Logic and Ableton LE, as well as through both my MOTU Ultralite and Focusrite Liquid Sapphire 56 interfaces. I am therefore presuming this is a MIDI issue with the actual computer (MacBook pro, bought new last september).
I moved to Mac from PC, so I'm not totally up to scratch with the Mac architecture yet - can anybody shed any light on why this is happening? It's driving me mad!

    Pancenter,
Yes.. I do see the occasional minor variations much like yourself when I sync up to my Oasys or more usually the Motif... to a fair sized and complicated project,,. Maybe +/- 1.. or on rare occasions +/- 2 bpm... but nothing close to the OP's +/- 5 bpm experiences...
It actually got better for me when I installed 10.8.x... along with the newest Motu drivers.. and in fact I can't remember the last time I had any unworkable issues with syncing though admittedly I haven't done that much syncing recently.
I do have a project coming up in the next 10 days..  that will require me to use the Oasys synced to Logic so I'll make a note of any issues i have and post back if any occur.
As an aside, I have recently been doing a lot of work with iPad Instruments and Arp Apps and Logic... and the sync as been rock solid over USB...

  • OSX Lion 10.7.3 and Airport Utility 6 Installation Errors

I tried to run a Software Update and install the latest upgrades but the installation fails for both Airport Utility 6 and OSX Lion 10.7.3 updates. Each time, the update is downloaded succesfully then after the installer runs for a while an error pops up on the screen saying something like "Error: A number of files could not be installed" and all you can do is "ok" it. Nothing gets installed. When downloading JUST Airport Utility 6 from the Apple website to attempt a manual install, I get the following error:
I've tried running Fix Disk Permissions on the drive, and even Rpair Disk, but found no errors of any kind on the disk. My disk has over 300GB of available space. The Mac is a 2011 MacBook Pro 2.3Ghz with 4G RAM, currently running 10.7.2.
I've never had ewrrors with an Apple Software Update before, so this is very strange...
Apple, can you please help, or let us know if there will be a fix forthcoming?

  • OSX Lion Fails To ShutDown

    Hi Community,
I have a new MBP 2011, that came with OSX Lion Installed.
The system statred off very well, with super startup and shut down times.
Along the way the system beagn freezing while under load, and the problem was resolved after installing the latest patches to 10.7.1.
A few weeks ago, the laptop began developing the following problems:
    1. OSX Lion takes time to shutdown, almost 2 minutes or more.
    2. The Problem has now worsened and OSX Lion fails to shut down completely until I hold on to the power button for a few seconds.
I checked on the logs for any signs, but being a first time mac user, am not sure how to get to the root of the problem.
Below is the relevant sectionof the Log files for the shutdown process.
Any help will be highly appreiated in resolving this rather frustrating issues with Lion.

MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)

Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
