FTP and the virus that is connecting outside the network

I have a problem that has been talked about on this forum, but without a resolution I have found yet. All the posts are unanswered, which tells me that either the person figured out the problem, or it was never resolved and they went on to another solution.
I have no problem connecting on out 10.x.x.x network, however, on the outside, many problems. The server is on the DMZ, installed in a very large network of switches and doodads. However, this server does have a direct connection to the outside world via the DMZ. It is running OSX server 10.4.7 and it has no connectivity issues with port 80 outside whatsoever. On FTP, big problems outside the the network however. I have gone through the firewall and enabled every possible thing on the any and 192(?) services, at least as it might relate to FTP. That includes, ftp, secure ftp, UDP/TCP in out.. All that jazz.
On the client side I have used Fetch 5, Transmit (latest version), and of course Terminal. All with similar effects. I can login, it gives me the welcome dialogs, when I connect, and when I finally login. The server seems very responsive. As soon as I initiate 'ls', it locks up. In transit is comes back that the connection timed out and died. In fetch it tells me that there is a firewall problem. As soon as I disable passive mode on the client side it just hangs. When I use terminal I get this:
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ftp> list
?Invalid command.
ftp> ls
502 'EPSV': command not understood.
227 Entering Passive Mode (209,130,203,108,199,99)
200 PORT command successful.
Then it just hangs until it says:
421 Service not available, remote server timed out. Connection closed
I'm open to any suggestions. What could it be that's causing such a problem. I can't imaging it's firewall related, but maybe I forgot to free some port.
By the way, non of the other servers have any problems with FTP access. This includes 1 xserve, and 10 mac mini's that are functioning as minor servers (quite well i might add, in a controlled room the temps are nice and cool and they are very reliable).
This server is also on a G4 mac mini. It is backed up once a week and scheduled to reboot every week. Don't ask me why, but it seems slower if you don't do that once a week, maybe a scripts thing. Dunno.
I know this has been a LONG post, but I appreciate anyone that has read this far, and hope you have a suggestion.

I updated my iPad software to 7.0 and now I can't connect to my network, although I reset and restarted iPad. Network connection is fine on all other devices

Try reset all settings

Note: Data will not be affected but settings will be reset.

Those are the instructions for your computer's iTunes (i.e. using the Store menu at the top of your computer's iTunes and selecting 'View My Account' on it). If you are doing it on your iPad then are you following the instructions for iOS devices :
To unhide your purchases
Depending on the content type, open the App Store, iBooks, or iTunes Store on your device.
Scroll to the bottom of the main page.
If you're not already signed in, tap Sign In.
Tap your Apple ID name, then tap View Account.
Scroll down on the Account pane, and tap Hidden Purchases.
Locate the item you would like to unhide then tap the Unhide button.

Try temporarily disabling your firewall and see if you are then able to access the iTunes store.

Passive FTP and the Leopard firewall

Hi,
We have an staff upload server that uses the built-in Leopard firewall. It is fed by two proprietary applications, one of which uses passive ftp only. We are getting a small number of incidents where the passive upload is unsuccessful. Initial contact is made (visible in the logs and as a connection in the server admin gui) but the upload doesn't proceed. A user might try uploading several times without success. On other occasions, the same user from the same computer has no problems at all.
We have the ftp service enabled on port 20-21 and the FTP service PASV port range enabled 49152-65535.
If I add the uploading computers' ip number to an access group with no port restrictions on the firewall, the uploads are always successful.
With my very limited knowledge of ftp and firewalls, this suggest that the negotiated port for the data transfer is outside the default port range used by Apple. Is this likely? Are there any implications in changing the range?
Or am I totally confused and should I be looking elsewhere?

By default, the FTP server doesn't restrict itself to any particular passive port range. To make it match what the firewall claims it should be, edit the file /Library/FTPServer/Configuration/ftpaccess and add the line:
passive ports 0.0.0.0/0 49152 65535
...then restart the FTP service and retest.

I'm running Windows 8.1 on iTunes 11.1.4 and my purchased music download says it was not successful and the network connection was reset. What is going on?

I got a new computer today. It's Windows 8.1 and I downloaded the latest version of iTunes. I went to my account, purchased, and hit download all after authorizing the computer. Some music is downloading fine; however a lot of it is saying, "such and such a song was not able to download. The network connection reset." I have no idea what to do! I searched the forums and haven't found one that has the same stuff as me. I have comcast/xfinity as my internet provider and the connection to the internet is wireless. Can someone please help because I would much rather have all of my music available!

The issue is that it's almost certainly a problem with your firewall/proxy and not iTunes so you might be hard-pressed to find help here as suggesting help for private LAN infrastructure is not the same as suggesting help for iTunes. Usually I'd suggest turning the proxy off and work your way backwards to find out where the problem is but I guess this isn't possible.
Anyway, have a look at the link and see if it helps.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. I have tried to download it 7 or 8 different times and still get the same message. I cannot restore the factory settings either. The same thing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions? It did this when trying to update to 4.2. I don't remember how we were able to get the software to update. Thanks.

Watched folder issue with Distiller 9.0 and the Network

We found that the Distiller watched folders "In" and "Out" creates automatically to some other folders on the network. This is happened only when missing folders occurs in Distiller when network disconnects.
We just wanted to know how to avoid of creating "In" and "Out" folder automatically when setting up watched folder in Distiller. We have to create the same folders manually in the watched folders assigned directory.
I need to disable the option "In" and "Out" created automatically through watched folder to the assigned folder.
For e.g. if I assigned the watched folders to the particular directory on the network, the distiller should not create these two folders automatically, I have to create the same folders ("In" and "Out") on the particular directory before assigning the watched folder.
Is this work well? Please help me out to solve this issue.

Questions for Michael:
If as the OP says; They have no issue doing so with PC versions of Acrobat why would there be a Licensing Issue on the Mac Version?
So long as each has their own copy of Distiller /Acrobat.
Also, Why is there not site licenses or seat licenses for Acrobat?
(Other products such as MS Office has such for all their products, and other companies do as well, Even Adobe has such for other products)
For the OP:
What type Network do you use? each of the Macs should most likely be setup to use the same Network as the PC if possibly.
Is it possibly to link to the hot folder on the PC side (since once created from PC it doesn't disappear). As I understand it only in OSX.5.8 and X.6 support for PC networks are the most reliable.

FW uppdates and the network providers part

Why does every one in this forum, including Nokia care, blaming the network providers for not releasing the latest FW uppdate?
I and many with me has purchased their phone unlocked, unbranded, without network licence and still "Mr. knowitall" and Nokia tells us" Talk to your network provider" What do they have to do with it?
My product code is the only one that doesn´t support the firmware v.20 it is available for the other two scandinavian product codes.
Im sick and tired of standarised answers fron customer support.
Check your product code on..bla..bla..bla. I´ve done that 100 times. The store have no idea what "product code" is so they call Nokia care, and Nokia care tell me to contact my network provider....and my network provider says "we have no responsibility when it comes to firmware...
Pleeeeeease someone have a correct answer.
Mabey I just drop it in the ocean and get a brand new one fron insurance and hope that one have a different code :-)

For generic undranded sim free phones:
These always get the new firmware first but not all languages get released at the same time. Some take longer than others to be adapted.
For network branded or sim locked phones:
Nokia sends the firmware to the networks as soon as it's finished, the networks need to approve, test and brand it before sending it back to nokia for distribution. Some networks do this quickly, others don't bother at all.
The networks will always blame the hardware makers because they don't know any better. Most tech support people nowadays read from a script or use a trouble shooting wizard.
