FTP Browsing via 'Connect to Server'

Hello,
I am trying to mount my website via FTP through the 'Connect to server' option in the Go menu. I am using the syntax < <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="ftp://">ftp://userid:[email protected] > in the Address bar. The server mounts properly, but I am not allowed to modify anything. It gives me a permissions error. I know I am using the right login information, and I know it's the main administrative account. Is there a setting I'm missing?
Other information: My network is School-based, through proxies, firewalls, etc., although I'm fairly sure I tried this at home on my personal Internet access and it exhibited the same problems. Also, just to make sure my account had the proper priveledges, I logged in to my server using a third party FTP client, and I was able to manipulate files normally.

Cory,
Yes, unfortunately, when you connect from the Finder to an FTP site, you can view directories and download files, but you cannot PUT files or delete files. This functionality is not supported by Apple Finder.
You must use a 3rd party application as you have discovered.
Interestingly, an article was posted last week on Apple's "Hot News" RSS feed:
feed://www.apple.com/main/rss/hotnews/hotnews.rss
...claiming to show how to use FTP to send files. But, when you click on the Article: "OSX Tip of the Week: ABC's of FTP", you get a dead page at Apple. Guess it got pulled.

  • FTP access via "Connect to Server. . ." function in Finder

How do I connect to a server using the "Connect to Server. . ." function in Mac OS X Finder?
Currently, in Finder, I click on "Go", "Connect to Server. . .", enter "ftp://[email protected]" and click on connect. I then enter my user name and password, but the application fails to connect. I've done it before, but am now having problems. Any thoughts?
Also, I do not want to install a third party ftp program. I know I don't need to install a third party application because I've successfully connected in the past, but have forgotten how to do so.

Are you aware that the Finder's ftp is Read Only, and that CyberDuck is Free?
Try turning off the Firewall on both to see if that's the problem.

  • Automount Sharepoints via Connect to Server...

I have a number of sharepoints assigned to different users and groups....freelancers only have access to certain folders but managers have access to everything.
They are working on local accounts at the client machines which are not connected in any way to the server. They connect to the sharepoints via 'connect to server' in the 'go' menu. Is there any way of automounting chosen sharepoints without viewing a huge list of all of the sharepoints available?
I don't want users to have to log into their account on the local machines...
    Thanks...

  • Connecting to iTouch via "Connect to server"

Can I access an iTouch 1st gen with wireless (local network) connection (Finder>Go>Connect to server)?
I have file sharing on (AFP) and I've followed the instruction provided by the App developer but the error message "Connection Failed - - There was an error connecting to the server 10.0.1.4 Check name, IP. . . " is returned.
I've checked the IP address, I'm using the "listed port :4242" in the server address.
The iTouch app in question was using Bonjour until it's recent upgrade, but that doesn't seem to be the case any more?? (not sure why it's not but......?).
I'm able to access other functions via bonjour and the wireless between these two devices.
The iTouch OS is 3.1.3 I'm trying to connect via a Time Capsule / Air port router to a OSX 10.6.3 Mac Pro.
I'm able to access other functions via bonjour and the wireless between these two devices.
    Thanks for and help insight.

This problem was in the bad parameter type,
that I was set to the insert statement.

  • Iweb ftp can't connect to server

I have been using iWeb for a long time to manage my web sites without any problems, however when I recently tried updating my web sites, I get a message from iWeb saying that it cannot connect with my host server.
I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and iWeb 09 version 3.0.4 (601) and publishing to a Go Daddy server.
In an attempt to identify the cause of the problem, I copied my iWeb domain.sites2 file to another machine and used a separate copy of iWeb to try to publish my site but I still received saying that iWeb could not connect to the host server.
I then published one of my web sites to a file on my machine and then uploaded it to the Go Daddy server using Filezilla.
Using the above procedure I was able to publish my web site, so I am as confident as I can be that the fault is with iWeb.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem, and have you found a better solution, ideally by just using iWeb to publish web sites?
If, as I suspect Apple has updated the software and introduced a bug, is Apple aware of the problem and does anyone know when it will fix it?

Apple has not updated iWeb software for a very long time and nor will it as Apple no longer sells iWeb as part of the iLife package and no longer supports iWeb.  No longer sells any of it in the Apple retail stores.
It is probably a temporary glitch in the iWeb programme that may sort itself out, but it is not a general 'bug' in iWeb, so there is probably nothing to fix.  Apple won't do anything or issue software updates for software that it no longer supports.

  • Publishing to the Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro server - two questions:

I publish Captivate output to the Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro server.  I have two questions:
How do I publish content so that users open up the output in full screen mode?
How do I publish content so that users open up the output in their flash players instead of their browsers?
As is well know, varying browser toolbar setups can make or break if your content fits on to the screen.
    Thanks!

    Hi there
I'm unsure if you are asking about this as it relates to Connect Pro server or not?
If you are asking if there is a way to open a Captivate presentation in Full Screen from Connect Pro, I do note that during Publishing, in the dialog the option for full screen mode is disabled. (which is odd because the first time I checked, the option was actually enabled!)
Again, speaking in terms of deploying the content via Connect Pro server, I am unaware of a way to coax Connect Pro into presenting as a SWF only. At least, not if you are publishing to it from Captivate. I did test by publishing a SWF from Captivate to a local folder on my hard drive. Then from inside Connect, electing to upload only the SWF. That seems to work. But again, you really don't have any control over the size of the window that opens. At least as far as I can tell. (I'm somewhat of a Connect novice)
Perhaps you might locate the forums for discussing Connect and ask the questions there?

  • Connect to Server freezes AFP client and hangs Finder

I have a brand new iMac core2duo (2GB RAM) and an older G4 iMac. Machines are running 10.4.8 (all updates applied) and 10.4.7 respectively. They're connected via Ethernet on my home network through a router.
When I first set up the Intel Mac I had no problems connecting to the G4 via Connect to Server. I could log in and mount remote volumes, etc. Now, after about a week of use, the Intel Mac AFP client hung after I logged in to the G4 and selected the remote volume to mount. The only way to cancel the operation was to Force Quit the process. Activity Monitor indicated the application as "not responding." This happened three times. I was able to connect to the Intel machine from the G4 without problem.
After two or three attempts at this, I tried simply connecting through the Network icon in a Finder window. This hung the Finder at pretty much the same point as before (after logging in and selecting a volume to access). After force quitting the Finder, the frozen window closed. However, I then decided to restart the Intel Mac "for the **** of it" to see if it would solve the AFP problem. After clicking Restart, the Desktop was cleared and the machine froze. (No kernel panic, just an empty Finder desktop with my wallpaper and a mouse cursor). I was forced to physically shut down and restart the machine.
I'd very much like to know why this is happening on a brand new machine with very little software and how to resolve it. In general both machines are manually put to sleep at night, they are not shut down.

Unlike those above, I've had the alternate problem. After being connected to a newtork share (SAMBA off an Intel MacMini) all day, I try to eject the network drive so I can go home for the night. End result is that the drive won't eject and after another try the finder hangs completely. Can't force quit...just spinning BBOD.
I have seen this behavior in 10.4.8 (not in 10.4.7) on both a 4 year old TiBook and a brand-spanking new MacBookPro 15.4". It's disturbing, because the same problem happens when you sleep your machine and wake it up elsehwere.....the finder hangs for a while trying to find the network share.
    Thoughts?

  • Connect to Server Login Name Problem

I have been troubleshooting some problems on two computers my father-in-law has.
One is an 2GHz Intel Core Duo iMac running Mac OS 10.4.11. We'll call this iMac 2G.
The second is an 800 MHz PowerPC G4 iMac running Mac OS 10.4.11. We'll call this iMac 800M.
I am attempting to file share the two computers. I can connect iMac 800M to the iMac 2G via "Connect to Server" fine. When I try to do the reverse, iMac 2G to the iMac 800M, the "Connect to Server" login window want to use the "Short Name" listed in the "Account" panel for the login name instead the full name.
Is there a way to fix this so that it will work with the full name will work in the login window?
    Thanks.
BTW - I do not know if this matters but I used the "ChangeShortName" (version 1.3) utility to fix the short name problem in the iMac 2G. Everything work fine after running the program.

Never mind, there were two login information stored in the keychain. Deleting the old one seem to correct the problem.

  • Connect to server ftp

OK, well I can do this via a dedicated FTP client like Fetch or Cyber Duck, but would much prefer to be able to utilize Apple's Connect to Server feature. I can connect to this particular server and the IT guy claims to have given me all the permissions I need.
FTP client will let me add files, make new folders, etc. Apple's finder let's me log in the same, but gives me the no write icon in the corner. Is there a trick to getting this to work like in Fetch? It would be much easier through the Finder than having to install FTP clients on everyone's Mac.
My login looks like:  ftp://mydomainhere.com, then of course the typical User Name and Password. Is there any other way to type this?
    Thanks for any help.

Ahhh, I'm guessing it I would have found this info in the manual.... had I read it!
Thanks for the help. This will save me a ton of time trying to get a feature that's not supported to work.
    Have a great day.

I think you have to turn off Private Browsing.
Tap "Private" on Safari Screen to disable Private Browsing. When top of screen is white, Private Browsing is off.

  • Connecting to a cube via a linked server

    Hi
I want to connect to a SSAS cube via a linked server. When I ran a query against the SSAS cube from directly from the SQL server it runs fine.
If however I run the query in SSMS from my PC I get
OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server "SSASServer01" returned message "The following system error occurred: .".
    Msg 7373, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot set the initialization properties for OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server "SSASServer01".
In the properties on the linked server I've defined an account to use for the connection to get round the double hop issue
Any Ideas why I'm still getting the error?
    Alex

    Hi Mr P,
According to your description, you get the error 7373 with message "Cannot set the initialization properties for OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server "SSASServer01"." when connecting a SSAS cube via linked server.
    Right?
In this scenario, based on the error code 7373, it points to the issue of MSOLAP provider, please firstly check the properties setting for MSOLAP. Make sure the "Allow Inprocess" is selected. You may also have other options selected depends on
    your query.
Also check if ports for your server (1434 and 2383) are listening proper locally and externally. Please refer to a similar thread below:

  • I can't cap the number of active downloads (via persistent-connection-to-server cap) AND still be able to load pages hosted on the same server, *because*...?

I'm aware that, by setting "network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server" (in about:config) to 1, I'm effectively preventing myself from being able to download a single file from a server AND load a page hosted on the same server simultaneously.
My question is, why can't Firefox tell the difference between a file download and loading a website?
The reason I ask is that I feel I should be able to create a download queue and have my browser download one file at a time (to minimize the impact downloads have on available bandwidth and my own downstream, while allowing me to set up a long chain of sequential downloads), YET still be able to browse websites hosted on the same server.
I do not want to use an add-on or a separate download manager to solve this problem. I think that's stupid. Firefox should be able to tell the difference between a request to load an html file and a request to download any other type of file.
After all, I can already configure Firefox's file handling behavior for each type separately (I have, for example, previously set PDF files to prompt me to "Save as...", in order to prevent exploits from triggering when I click on a link, by preventing Firefox from opening them in-browser).
There is no reason I shouldn't be able to do what I have said I would like to. I should not HAVE to limit the number of max server connections in order to ACHIEVE filling a simple download queue with a 1-file-at-a-time limit.

In your Keychain under 'login' delete the VeriSign certificates and then quit and restart all browsers/itunes/app store.

  • Lion 10.7.5 cant connect to printer via Buffalo print server

    Hi everyone,
I'm at my wits end with this one having spent over 20 hours on it.
I have a Macbook Air running Lion 10.7.5 and a Macbook running OSX 10.6.8.  I have a Photosmart 8050 printer attached to a Buffalo Linkstation Live LS-CH1 running firmware 1.60 (the latest version for this model).  The Linkstation has a printserver which is attached via USB to the printer, the Linkstation is attached to a wireless router, for amound other things, wireless printing.
The long and the short of my problem is, I can get the Macbook running 10.6.8 to print without a problem, works fantastic, but I can not get the Air running 10.7.5 to print through the print server even though the printers are installed the very same way on both machines.  The error from the print que is "unable to connect to printer" even though it seems to connect successfully to the Linkstation, as in my setup a username and password must be entered to access the printer, even though a user is logged in to the file server.  Not to get confused, I am 99% convinced the problem is with the Macbook Air running 10.7.5.
I installed the printers using the Windows method, Workgroup -> Linkstation -> Printer then selecting the HP 8000 series driver version 5.0.4.  I have also tried every other install method available, however as I understand it, this is the recommended method for this print server setup.
I have checked the network setup, driver versions and even though it does not seem to cover my printer have GutenPrint 5.2.9 installed.
The printer does work when connected directly to USB however.
If anyone has any idea why I cant get the Macbook Air running 10.7.5 to print via the print server on the Linkstation when 10.6.8 works perfectly, then please HELP!
    Thank you

Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait for few  minutes.
Connect the router back to to the wall.
Power the router back on. Wait  until all lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
    Restart the computer.
