Ftp connection on Mac

Hi everyone,
I've gone through many forum postings but none seem to be
quite like this problem.
Can anyone help, please?
I have been working and updating 3 websites (different
servers) with Dreamweaver 8 with no problem until yesterday. I'm
pretty sure I didn't change any settings of my firewall or
dreamweaver. But since yesterday I couldn't connect to just ONE of
my websites. I always get the message: "Dreamweaver could not
connect to the server. User canceled. Operation time out".
It's odd because when I "test" the connection on "remote
settings" it does work. But when I try to only upload any file it
doesn't.
The "passive FTP" was always checked when was working. I
tried to unchecked and didn't work too.
So, I reported to the server and it was not a problem with
them. I tried to connect by ftp in Firefox and worked. So I realize
it could be something with my ftp connection.
I tried to turn off my firewall, but still not working.
I tried to test the TCP/IP port 21 (and it is open).
I tried to delete the site definitions from Dreamweaver and
re-create again, but no luck.
I just didn't re-install Dreamweaver because I'm afraid to
lose the connection with my other 2 sites.
Does anybody have any tip, or link with similar issue that I
can get some turn around???
Please any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Viv,
For what its worth - I'd recommend a third party ftp client,
something along
the lines of Panic, or otherwise.
DW's ftp is a pretty regular topic of conversation round
these parts.

  • Log Incoming FTP connections on mac

    Hi,
I recently switched from PC to a iMac, ad frankly i don't know why i waited so long. This mac is way better than my PC. Anyways i have a question. i have enabled FTP on my home mac so i can access it from work or anywhere else i need. Now is there a way to log all incoming FTP connections on the mac? or any suggestions on how to secure it better.. I've just enabled ftp file sharing in system preferences.
I know one way is for the router to log incoming connections, however mine does not have that capability.
    Thanks

Thanks John - I then keep the rule to decline those type of incoming requests. Could you please share how you found out the ISP? I tried "whois" but did not have much success.
    Thank you.
I first did a lookup of various IP addresses in the range you mentioned - 201.116.6.xxx using Network Utility this suggested a domain of uninet-ide.com.mx I then tried doing a whois of uninet-ide.com.mx using network utility and also accessing tried visiting www.uninet-ide.com.mx in Safari but neither worked. I then did a Google search for uninet-ide.com.mx and this does give me a whois link for that domain.
    See http://who.is/whois/uninet-ide.com.mx
Via that I could see the http://www.akky.mx website address.

  • Connecting to FTP using a Mac

I can connect fine with my PC and make edits to sites. When I try to connect with Mac it gives me an FTP error. I read it might have to do with MTU or ISP settings? Not sure where I find those or how i fix this.
    Thanks!

Yea, everything is good there. Have all the right info. I just connected through Cyber Duck. I have no idea. So frustrating! My PC connects fine. So weird.
If you are using DW on your PC and connecting fine, try this...
    1. From your PC version, go to Site > Manage Sites
    2. Click the site you're having trouble with and hit Export. That will create a .STE file to copy to the Mac
    3. On the Mac, from DW go to Site > Manage Sites > Import to import that copied .STE
    4. Verify your root folder goes to the correct site folder on the Mac
    5. Try connecting

  • Can no longer connect to Mac index via FTP

The other computer on my LAN is running Ubuntu Karmic and I can FTP to it no problem. Used to be able to FTP to my Mac no problem until I tried this free firewall software which claimed to have a decent GUI. I made sure to remove the software completely using the TrashMe app when I decided it was useless, but have not been able to reconnect from my Linux machine to Mac via FTP. I can ping the Mac no problem and have also gone through all the basic troubleshooting steps: turned off the firewall and tried - nothing, turned the firewall back on - some story, restart, rebooted router, release/renew IP (not that that would help but what the hey).
Anyone else experienced similar issues? Any suggestions as to next steps?

    Hi. Try this:
    - Open System Preferences
    - Open Sharing (not sure if is this name)
    - Activate Share Files (or file sharing...)
    - In Options button, you got to check FTP and the users (below) that will be able to access
Voilá... hope this works for you!

  • Can't FTP from a Mac to a Mac through ABS but can from a PC to Mac

    Hi all,
I have a problem trying to FTP from a Mac to a Mac through my ABS but can do so from a PC (windows machine).
I have a webserver http://jeanmatthieu.free.fr/pureftpd/ installed on one of my Macs which is connected to the internet via my ABS (snow). My other Mac is connected to the net via a dial-up modem. I can successfully FTP to the Mac with a webserver using an FTP application on a PC, but am unable to successfully connect from a Mac using an FTP appllication (I have tried Transmit, Fetch, and Cyberduck). The Mac FTP application connects but will not list the files on the FTP server, eventually timing out (see Transmit log below) I think the issue is with the ABS and possible port mapping as I can successfully FTP Mac to Mac if the server is connected to the net through ethernet and not my ABS.
Can anybody give me pointers as to what I need to do to solve this.

  • Yosemite 10.10.2 server app. FTP help. I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac folder. It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?

So I have set up a localhost area in my Mac. I have the new server.app and I am running yosemite 10.10.2 .
I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac .
It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?
I am pretty certain that the Serveris "localhost",
Name is my macs name (like my-mac-min)
    password is "my login password"
    and they suggest port 21.
But what is the file path, lets just say my site is set up http://localhost/siteftp and is actually at my Users/Sites/siteftp folder.
Why cant this program connect to the mac.
Is it because they are both operating in the same localhost enviroment,
could it be my folder permissions are not correct on siteftp folder?
    Help please !

I tried turning the computer off and then back on. The alerts don't show the notice to update as resolved. Hopefully this is not a problem or an indicator or another problem. Should I ignore or reload 10.10.1 from the app store to trigger a resolved check in a green circle?
Interesting that I had to buy server software after my free Yosemite download. I would have hoped that the two pieces of software would have gone together without any complication. It is not positive to end up buying a problem. Ah well, time to move on.

  • Read only on ftp connection?

    Hello!
I tried to establish an ftp connection to a server to upload some files, but I had only read permissions. My friend told me it worked from windows(very annoying!). Yes, I had a Windows 7 Boot Camp installation and was able to transfer the files from there. However I don´t like the idea of having to downgrade system just to do some ftp. The server filesystem was EXT4 and I also downloaded a separate free FTP client from App Store: Still no write permission!
After all, in Mac OS there is an option connect to server using login name and password then why shouldn´t it just work like OS X is expected to?
    Thanks for your replies

I doubt it is the filesystem as the FTP server should be handling file IO.
Try in the Terminal. There are several ways you can connect.
It is basically ftp user@host, but you can type man ftp to see a list of ways to add username and password, port, etc. Once in man, type q to quit.
Once you log in, you'll have an ftp> prompt. Use the ftp commands to "put" or "get" a file, and "ls" to see what is there. The rest of the commands are in the man page.
Basic FTP has pretty much been dropped from OS X as it is completely insecure. However, I'm not sure why a third-party ftp client had trouble. Maybe it was how you logged into the server.

  • Can't establish ftp connection between a Xserve and a PB

We want to use a Xserve (Mac OS X Server 10.4.8) to provide webhosting, but experience problems in establishing ftp connections using a PowerBook (Mac OS X 10.4.8).
On a WinXP-based notebook using the same Internet connection, anything works fine, just not on my PowerBook.
This is what happens when trying to establish a ftp connection (via terminal):
    I type: ftp [email protected]
    Returns:
    220 star1.local FTP server ready.
    331 Password required for user.
I provide the password, anything looks fine, get this output:
    230 User starenterprise logged in.
    Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
    ftp>
Okay, now I want to see what files are in the directory using "dir" command ("ls" brings same result). This output is shown:
    502 'EPSV': command not understood.
    227 Entering Passive Mode (132,78,123,92,42,115)
Now I can either press CTRL+C to escape or when waiting around one minute, then it states this:
421 Service not available, remote server timed out. Connection closed
On a ftp client software like CuteFTP Mac it shows "Can't open data connection" instead of, but result is the same.
I read through some articles I found here, but nothing compared to my problem. Please help.
I should mention one thing Apple's support told me: Since I have the same username and UID on my PowerBook as well as on the xServe, it could bring problems. However I have then added a new user to my PowerBook, result is the same. And Apple's support left helpless so far.

You said: "Not really answered, the problem persists and I now go on and let
    Apple work on it again"
As a native English speaker, I must say (and doubt any would disagree) that
your statement implied: "No one here has actually helped me fix this problem,
and now I'm waiting for Apple to fix it"
Please take care to the word "again" I used; this implies that Apple has tried to solve the issue before but failed (in fact, they stated to call me back, but this is weeks ago) and so I posted this here at the discussions.
Unfortunately I only have access to the "free" support (well, free is not the right word when paying 12 cents per minute for the phone call).
And this means (at least I can speak for the German part of Apple) that operators on the phone look at their knowledgebase and sending articles by e-mail; questions going deeper are resulting in a "we call you back" answer. Sometimes they phone back, sometimes not. Sometimes they are helpful, sometimes (or should I say "in most cases") they just give hints or ask me to investing a nice amount into premium support.
Don't misunderstand me in the direction that I demand assistance from this forum - I'm more than gradeful if I get help (and rewarded this always with giving points), it has saved me several times (many, many, many times) for doing time consuming investigations and making trial-and-error experiences by myself. If I cannot get more assistance, well I have to look elsewhere and so be a bit impertinent to Apple's support. Perhaps it helps
You are right, FTP itself works correctly. It even works fine on the WinXP notebook residing at the same LAN as my PB. Therefore the issue is at the PB's firewall very likely (or a strange relationship between two firewalls which seems not to affect WinXP).
But as you indicate, it makes no sense to lower down security just for doing ftp, especially since SSH works well. However since I have no problems doing ftp sessions with other servers, I would be eager to find the reason why it refuses in this case, even this just means feeding my curiosity
So if I come to new insights, I post them here. But I feel that I'll really need your wishes for luck to solve this problem Let's see...

  • Want to setup FTP server on Mac 10.6 using Airport Express

I am wondering if it is possible to use my mac as a FTP server with Airport Extreme. When I connect my mac directly to cable modem I could get an unique address for the mac. However, when I connect via Airport Extreme the address was changed to 10.0.1.3. This address can be used only in the same LAN but not from the outside.

You should be able to configure your AirPort Extreme to map the FTP ports to your Mac. In AirPort Utility put the AirPort Extreme into "manual setup" mode, then select the "Advanced" panel and the "Port Mapping" tab.
To make this work well you should first assign a "reserved" IP address to your Mac using the Internet panel, DHCP tab, "DHCP Reservations" section.

  • FTP Connection Issues Dreamweaver CS5.5

I can't ftp into the top level directory of any of my hosting accounts with dreamweaver cs5.5
This is becoming a major issue and I'm aware now of other users with the same issue.
First  log in to an ftp server works fine - the test case directory is created  and deleted - and I think it is this which is causing some odd  permissions issue.
Second time you try to log in, the connection is made,  but then any directory listing times out. However if I define a  directory such as /public_html/images/ then it will connect and display  directory listings just fine.  Clicking "Test" in the server definition dialog results in an OK message.
If i FTP in using a different FTP Client (in this case  Transmit) and upload a single file, the issue goes away, and  dreamweaver can again connect - one time only, until I perform this odd  "reset".
This happens on all FTP connections across multiple  hosting companies (all of the hosting companies my clients sites are  stored at).
    FTP log is below:
    < 257 "/www"
< 220 Welcome to Proweb Server FTP service (JubJub).
      > USER winfo
< 331 Please specify the password.
      > PASS
      < 230 Login successful.
      > PWD
      < 257 "/"
      > CWD /
      < 250 Directory successfully changed.
      > CWD /www
      < 250 Directory successfully changed.
      > PWD
      < 257 "/www"
Then it waits for a while before  giving me the following error message (I've extended timeout to anything  up to a couple of minutes, no difference):
Toggling the "USE Passive FTP"  checkbox may help you establish a connection. -Select or de-select the  checkbox and click Test to tray again.
-if you are connecting  using an IPv6 enabled server, please select the "USE IPv6 transfer mode"  checkbox in the Advanced site definition dialog.
If  the problem persists, check you network settings, including the local  firewall settings on your computer, or consult your network  administrator.
I have tried PASV checked and unchecked, performance optimisation, and every other combination available to me. I am not connecting through a proxy.
The  settings on ALL of my sites worked before the cs5.5 upgrade. The  settings on NONE of my sites with a root directory specified work since  the upgrade.  The only thing that has changed is the move to dreamweaver  cs5.5.  I can connect with other ftp clients.  my ftp server settings  are correct. My server and network settings are unchanged. The settings on ALL my sites on other FTP clients continue to work fine.
Am on an i7 2.8GHz Intel iMac running 10.6.7 with 8 gigs of RAM. I have quit all software except dreamweaver and tried running my mac firewall both on and off.
Really running out of ideas, and know of other people with the same issue since the upgrade - what's going on Adobe?!

Same for me, in that I had an unreliable and effectively unusable FTP connection with CS5.5 . I've reverted to CS5, because even though I'll miss a couple of the new features I need to have a working connection to the site when working with PHP - because otherwise I can't see my site at all other than via Firefox. I also suspect that at least a couple of times I've had some sort of corruption occur as a result of the FTP hanging. All was okay before CS5.5, and I may have slagged off a different hosting provider than my present one when it was in fact (at least in part) a DW issue. If it isn't fixed in CS6 then CS6 is unusable for me and I'd definitely be happier with 'unenhanced' CS5 FTP functionality. The theoretical performance gains with the CS5.5 implementation are trivial by comparison with the problems. If all else fails, please revert to CS5 code for the FTP side of things.
UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is now fixed for me. The problem was that I did not have a proper web url entered in my site definition for the remote server. I'm not sure how that was placing any limitation on FTP access - after all, the need for a full site definition was removed a couple of software issues ago - but the fact is that with the correct web address entered I have working FTP on CS6 (and seemingly on CS5.5 too). I had a simple forward slash entered for the web address, probably as a result of some earlier investigation of the local server/remote server relationships for file upload on a PHP site. I was running CS5 with the correct Web Url entered, so that was working and the CS5.5, without the correct Web Url, was not. I vaguely remember reading that the Web Url was connected with DWs management of absolute/relative links and not much else, but it seems that is not the case. The new FTP is MUCH faster and I'm a happy guy. Site menu>>>Manage sites>>>[select your site]>>>Edit>>>Servers>>>[2-click your server]>>>Web URL:    Put in the full URL e.g. http://www.somesite.com . Not sure if you need a trailing / after, but I have one.
UPDATING AGAIN: Through all of that I had turned on the  'IPv6 protocol' and 'Passive FTP' options in an attempt to get working. The result of that was FTP that worked well once transferring files but often took a while to hook up. Deselecting those, and using CS6, I'm happy with my FTP.

  • Ftp connection and Dreamweaver

    Hi everyone,
I was all day long reading the posts in this forum and Adobe's about ftp connection issues with Dreamweaver. Hope somebody else has a new idea or experience to help me.

But I don't understand why I get ftp connection with
2 websites and just one is not working??? should this
be happening if it was a "port" problem???
I can help clarify this. With FTP, there are TWO connections. The first is the control connection, and that occurs on port 21. This is where the authentication takes place, and where commands are passed from cliet to server.
The second connection is the data connection. This is where the transfer of data takes place (including a directory listing). There are two basic ways of establishing this connection, active and passive. In an active connection the server attempts to open a socket from port 20 to a random port on the client. This is the connection which is blocked by firewalls.
In passive mode, the server sends back a port number that it (or rather a child) is listening on. The client connects to the server on that port, and receives data. The problem is, that while this is happening, the control connection is idle. This may cause the control connection (and thus the entire protocol) to time out.
So there are quite a few things that can go wrong. If your server only supports active mode and you have a firewall which blocks its incoming connection, eventually the control connection will time out. If your server is load-balancing, or your router tries to recylcle ide connections, the control connection may be shut down. I don't know what's happening in your case, but I can tell you what may be happening with your ports. HTH.

  • Connection problem - no ftp connection

It is hard to use Dreamweaver, when the FTP connection seems to have been erased.  Has anyone experienced this?

    Hello,
many of the people here use the DW integrated FTP function.
There this should work:  Site->Manage Sites. Select your site and click Edit. Use wizard on the "How do you connect to your remote server?" question to select FTP. Insert your FTP login information and test the connection. Now you should be able to upload your site. > Look to your files panel. Use Up arrow to upload files to your server. You naturally need all the data here to access the server.
In addition, I'll quote a hint from Nancy O.:
Try toggling Passive and/or Secure FTP on/off.
Your web host might have changed upload requirements to improve security.
Another thing to check is your Anti-virus and Firewall settings. If they are too restrictive, DW may not have permission to connect to the remote server.
Some here have difficulties, so perhaps it is worth to go a different way. It's well known, that in all these cases you describe I'm not a friend of a detailed troubleshooting. To be able to be independent in all this things It is one of the reasons why I prefer an external FTP program. The difficulties with which you have to fight encourage me in this opinion, not least because we always search for experts, we don't charge a "jack of all trades".
To manage several websites or to upload my files and sometimes for the opposite way, for a necessary download from my server or to use a "a site-wide synch", I'm using FileZilla. It simply looks easier for me to keep track of all operations precisely and generate or reflect easily the desired tree structure.
Above all, FileZilla has a feature (translation from my German FileZilla) called "compare file list". Here it's possible to use file size or modification time as a criterion. There is also the possibility to "hide identical files", so that only these files which you want to redact remain visible.
And even if it means you have to install a new program, I am convinced that there is an advantage. Here is the link to get it and where you can read informations about how it works:
    http://filezilla-project.org/ and http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Tutorial#Using_the_site_manager
Mac: Mac OS X (Use: Show additional download options)
    http://filezilla-project.org/download.php
Of course, you also need all the access data to reach your server and for MIME issues, you should contact your web host/provider.
    Good luck!
    Hans-Günter
    P.S.
Since I use two screens, the whole thing became even more comfortable.

    CONCATENATE  res1 res2 res3 res4 res5 res6 res7 res8 res9 res10 res11 res12 res13 res14 res15 res16 res17 res18 res19  res20 res21 res22 res23 res24 res25 res26 res27 res28 res29 res30 res31 res32 res33 res34 res35 res36 res37 res38 res39
    INTO w_charlist-line SEPARATED BY ','.
    APPEND w_charlist TO t_charlist.
Now T_CHARLIST contains 50 records which needs to be placed on other system. I can see 50 records but gap is coming
Here res1, res2 and so on are declared as TYPE STRING..

  • Adding a site to a ftp connection

    Hi,
Just upgraded to DW CS4 and in doing so I pressed a wrong
    button...!
I have numerous sites in my site manager window and one I am
working on has reverted to being nothing more than an ftp
connection. This was my fault as I went back into the set-up window
for the site (edit site) and made it an ftp connection only, rather
than a full site with connections to local folders as well as
    remote connections.
Problem is, now on the site manager list the icon has changed
from the folder with the name of the site to the ftp//sitename here
icon and I have no idea how to get it back so I have access to my
    local folder.
    Any help?
    Thanks,
    SunsV

There really isn't any way to go back from that choice.
so- Make a New site definition and pick "site" and not "RDS"
    connection.
