FTP Error in Dreamweaver (mac)

I have a site that I can connect to on my Dreamweaver/Windows, but not on Dreamweaver/Mac.
I have the settings identical as far as I can tell and it immediately gives me an error that says:
An FTP error occured - cannot make conection to host.
No response from server. This may be due to one or more of the following reasons:
-Proxy... etc...
-Use Passive... etc...
-IPV6.... etc...
-Firewall etc...
-Port 21 etc...
None of these apply except for Passive and I have set it both ways with no joy.
I can use FTP from Firefox on my Mac with the same settings and it works fine.
Kirk

Fixed.
I am using Dreamweaver CS5.5 on Snow Leopard and am having the same FTP problems.
After  trying to uninstall and reintall Dreamweaver CS5.5 with no luck I was  able to solve my issue by leaving the "Root Directory" field of the FTP  server configuration BLANK.
My hosting provider (justhost)  allows you to specify the FTP path when you create a FTP accounts. That  is where I specify the "root dir" path and not in DW ftp server config.

When I saw this, I clicked on “Check Browser Capability” and I got this result, showing several identical red flags: “• 47 Extra Whitespace in List Links Bug (If a link with display: block and no explicit dimensions is inside a list item, any spaces or linebreaks that follow the list item in the code will cause extra whitespace to appear in the browser. I should add that no adjustments were made to the site before it stopped working. Is there a bad code that might have gone in during an automatic update?

It's pretty unlikely that a code issue (what that check compatibility is looking at) would cause your FTP to stop functioning. That compatibility tester is essentially outdated junk anyway. The 6 people left on the planet that still use IE6 won't mind if your site doesn't look right, nothing does to them.
It's not unusual for certain hosting companies, GoDaddy is a good example, to simply lose your FTP credentials after a server update, which would cause the FTP error you are seeing.
Check with your hosting company and verify your FTP settings are correct.

  • Dreamweaver - FTP Error

    Hello,
I am a creative cloud subscriber and therefore host through Adobe's Business Catalyst. I have had no issues for months with my site. However, as I went to go update and "put" my site. I got this error message:
"an ftp error occurred - cannot make connection to host. Your login or password is incorrect. Please check your connection information."
I have not messed with any settings within dreamweaver. The only thing I can think of, is I added a MX record to send and receive emails through a domain email address.
    Can anyone please help?
    This is quite urgent!
    Thank you in advance

    Hi jonlehman,
Which version of Dreamweaver are you using? You can get this information by going to menu:
MAC - "Dreamweaver -> About Dreamweaver"
WIN - "Help -> About Dreamweaver"
Also, please provide your platform and OS information.
    Thanks,

  • Dreamweaver - FTP error occurred - cannot make connection

Hello I am trying to update a site and I am getting an error:
FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host.
I absolutely did change any kind of FTP settings in the last 3 months.
Everything has been working fine up until now.
Justhost is who I use, I talked to there tech support they said they checked on there side and are able to connect and everything is working there, they are telling me it has something to do with dreamweaver.
The only thing new is a I did an update earlier to adobe creative cloud - I don't think that would be the problem though.
If anyone can please please help me or point in the right direction I will greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks

    Hello,
it's well known, that  In all these cases you describe  I'm not a friend of a detailed troubleshooting. To be able to be independent in all this things It is one of the reasons why I prefer an external FTP program. The difficulties with which you have to fight encourage me in this opinion, not least because we always search for experts, we don't charge a "jack of all trades".
To manage several websites or to upload my files and sometimes for the opposite way, for a necessary download from my server or to use a "a site-wide synch", I'm using FileZilla. It simply looks easier for me to keep track of all operations precisely and generate or reflect easily the desired tree structure.
Above all, FileZilla has a feature (translation from my German FileZilla) called "compare file list". Here it's possible to use file size or modification time as a criterion. There is also the possibility to "hide identical files", so that only these files which you want to redact remain visible.
And even if it means you have to install a new program, I am convinced that there is an advantage. Here is the link to get it and where you can read informations about how it works:
    http://filezilla-project.org/ and http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Tutorial#Using_the_site_manager
Mac: Mac OS X (Use: Show additional download options)
    http://filezilla-project.org/download.php
Of course, you also need all the access data to reach your server and for MIME issues, you should contact your web host/provider.
    Good luck!
    Hans-Günter
    P.S.
Since I use two screens, the whole thing became even more comfortable.

  • CS3 Dreamweaver FTP errors

    connection: CS3 Dreamweaver>MacPro(10.4.10)>Airport

Since upgrading to intel mac w/ CS3, I am constantly getting
FTP errors. All client accounts are set to passive. Usually it
takes 2 or 3 attempts to connect to server. On one client account
that is set up for Contribute, I get error messages at the end of
an 11.9MB podcast upload saying the file was skipped–so I end
up using fetch to upload the file.
Most of the accounts are legacy and never had a problem
    ftp'ing to server w/ G4 rig.

Here is the message I get when my upload completes. The
status bar goes to 100% so it appears that the upload is complete,
    but not to be.
    Started: 11/5/07 8:22 AM
    Operation timed out. Cancelling...
    podcasts:broadcast162.mp3 - error occurred
    Connected to ...
    podcasts:broadcast162.mp3 - skipped
File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not
    completed.
    Files skipped: 1
    Files with errors: 1
    podcasts:broadcast162.mp3
    Finished: 11/5/07 8:30 AM
If I then look at the remote directory, I see the following
file: "broadcast162.mp3.new" and the file size is correct, 11.9MB.
So then I resort to using Fetch to upload. Adobe, please fix

  • How can get Dreamweaver to stop error message: an ftp error has occurred- cannot connect to host?

Dreamweaver is locking me out when I try to connect to the host via ftp. I get the error message: "An ftp error has occurred - cannot make connection to host". This error message started yesterday when I used the wrong host ftp address too many times. I have since received the correct ftp address from my website host, but the system won't even let me log in...it just gives me that error message when I click the connection button on the panel. My website host recommends that I uninstall Dreamweaver and re-install it again. My concern is, if I un-install the Dreamweaver app, which I downloaded from the Cloud, will the Cloud know I've un-installed Dreamweaver and allow me to download it again? Please help.

See my response in your most recent thread. Please don't double post like that - it can confuse things considerably when replies come in to both threads.

  • FTP Error - Mac, DW_CS6

Due to upgrading my MAC from S.Leopard to M.Lion I've lost the use of DWmx04, a programme I have used for a long time, so thought instead of going through the stress of reinstalling S.Leopard I would embrace the change. So have downloaded the trial version of DWcs6, all going well until testing the FTP. Got all the necessary FTP details for my site, but I get the message 'An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host. The remote host cannot be found.' I might of had a similiar problem when originally started with mx04 but can't remember how I solved it. I understand that there are many perameters, any advice would be helpful.
This might be a long shot but until very recently I was using MX04 successfully, is there anyway of transfering mysite  FTP details from there?
I've checked previous posts but haven't found a definitive answer.

mx04 was working on the same machine (mac pro) until the upgrade (1month ago). Due to it being a Power PC program it refuses to load, but all the databases are still on my system, will have a look at your link.
I successfully loaded mysite files into DWcs6 but it would be good if I could access my previous DW04 FTP settings, to see where and if I have made a mistake.
Thought it would be an easier way than just constantly changing and testing individual FTP settings.
    Thanks

  • Dreamweaver CS3 FTP Error

Dreamweaver CS on Vista Pro, everything has worked fine for
the last 5 months I have been able to ftp to all my sites. Then
last week I started getting the following when I tried to connect
    to my sites:
    quote:
Operation timed out...canceled...An FTP error occurred -
cannot make connection to host. No response from the server. This
may be due to one or more of the following reasons:
    - Accessing the server requires firewall settings that aren't
properly set. Please verify that the firewall settings in the Site
category of the Preferences dialog box are properly set, and that
the Use Firewall option in the Site definition dialog box is
    selected.
    - The server may be accepting only passive mode or only
active mode. Toggling the "Use Passive FTP" checkbox may help you
    establish a connection.
    I'VE TRIED
    THIS A FEW TIMES
    - If you are connecting to an IPv6 enabled server, please
select "Use IPv6 transfer mode" checkbox in the Advanced site
definition dialog. THIS IS NOT THE CASE AS CONFIRMED BY THE HOST.
    - Your local firewall may be blocking the incoming FTP data.
Please disable it to see if it makes a difference. THIS HAS BEEN
TESTED A FEW TIME WITH NO LUCK.
    - It is possible your FTP may be using a non-standard FTP
port (21). If you need to specify a non-standard port, enter the
port number after host name separated by a colon":". THIS IS NOT
THE CASE AS CONFIRMED BY THE HOST.
I have no problem connecting using CuteFTP and using the
exact same settings as used in Dreamweaver. Also weird is the fact
I would connect to a site, and then come back latter that day and
could no longer reconnect. It was like I was able to only connect
one time with site after this started happening. Now No sites are
able to be accessed through Dreamweaver FTP.
Anyone else experiencing this and/or have a solution?

  • Dreamweaver FTP error when updating BC site

    Hi,
I recently changed by Adobe ID password due a possible security breach.
    When trying to "put" some local  Dreamweaver folders to update my test BC site i got the error message;
" An FTP error has occurred. Cannot make connection to the host your login or password is incorrect. Please check your connection information".
I know this must be straightforward to sort but I can't seem to work it out.
Can anyone remind me how to update connection information to reflect my new password ?
    Kind Regards, Matt.

    Hi Matt,
You have changed your password online but if this is a saved project in Dreamweaver you also need to go in and update your details in that saved project with your new password as well. Have you done this or entering your new password in DW?

  • An FTP error occurred - cannot put [file name.htm]. Dreamweaver encountered an internal data error

I get the message “Server not responding” whenever trying to add files to my web site via DW. The following message appears: "An FTP error occurred - cannot put [file name.htm]. Dreamweaver encountered an internal data error. Please try the operation again."
I called the hosting service provider, and they said they were able to upload a 20 mb document with no problem. I was also able to upload a document using Filezilla.
Therefore, the problem must be with DW.
When I go to Manage Sites and choose my site and get to the Test Connection button, the test is successful, which further confuses the issue.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Does this help?
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/861606
    Also check the log:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/937231
It is possible it is a host issue but because they use a higher level account to test that they do not see the error.

  • An ftp error occurred cannot make connection to host DW CS4

OK... I just recently installed Dreamweaver CS4. I am trying to connect to a clients site and I keep on getting the following error:
an ftp error occurred cannot make connection to host. the remote host cannot be found
A couple of days when I was in DW CS3, I never had this problem, apparantly others have also had this problem however all the help that I have seen is for PC.
When I entered all of my info, I then proceeded several times to 'Test' , I have been able to connect succesfully but when I try to connect to remote host, I get that error message.
    Please help!!!!
I am using Mac OS X Version 10.5.8

    Hi,
In the remote info tab, Access-> FTP, click on Server Compatibility button.
    Uncheck FTP Perfomance Optimization.
Try to re-connect to your web server.
    OR
In the FTP field, you don't have to type the protocol (ftp://....)

  • Dreamweaver & mac 10.7.3

I have just upgraded to a new macbookpro with 10.7.3 and used the migration assistant to move my files to the new mac. Now i cannot connect to the remote server using dreamweaver cs5.5. the ftp 'test' conection says its ok but when i try & select a page it gives error message - an ftp error occured - cannot get file. access denied. the file may not exist or there could be a permission problem'. i have tried changing the connection options, still no joy. any advice most appreciated.

    Hi team
I finally managed to sort the problem and now have access back to my sites. It seems a adobe permission issue that I couldnt get sorted. I will try & explain the solution as best I can. Basically I had to dump the old sites & download a new copy to my computer. Before I did that I made a copy of my local folders in case of emergency
    1. In dreamweaver - manage sites - click on your site - duplicate - edit - advanced settings - local info.
    2. In 'Local Info' change the 'Local root folder' and 'Default images folder' to your new folder name
    3. Click 'ok'. You may get a warning message about the images folder not being inside the site, but ignore that.
    4. Click 'Done'.
    5. Then you will see the lcoal site with no folders. Expand the view to see both the local & remote files, or change the drop down to see only the remote filles.
    6. Then pick a file to bring down from the remote folder, check it out, amend - save - check back in.
    7. If that works then select the root folder ie. Remote Site '/' and download all the files.
    8. Do a restart and check access using your new copy of the files & images.
    9. You may or may not want to rename your new local site folder. If you do rename it make sure you go back to '2' above & change the local root & default images' folders.
    10. You will likely have to do this process for each site you want to access. I did it for both mine and since then have had no access issues. The only catch is you cannot use the 'recent history' list to access a file as it will automatically choose the file from the old site. You need to select the file you want directly from the local site folder.
Hope this helps. If anything isn't clear please reply.
