FTP/File adapter with Fixed Position File Format

Hi All,

• Reading fixed position files with File Adapter

Hi !
I'm trying to use the file adapter to read a file with data in fixed positions .
I cannot get it to work, I'm getting :
[Line=3, Col=133] Expected "${eol}" at the specified position in the native data, while trying to read the data for "element with name Hours", using "style" as "array" and "cellSeparatedBy" as "${eol}", but not found.
Ensure that "${eol}", exists at the specified position in the native data.
and don't understand what the problem is.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner.
If you are only interested in the first 133 characters then as you stated you need to put in a dummy filler at the end.
The file adapter is not as smart as you think. What is does is reads the string in a stream, so it gets its command and reads the stream until it hits it, then it gets the next command.
In your situation you said read 1 - 133 thinking it would ignore the other characters in the line. In reality what happens is that it reads the first 133 characters. Assuming that it wasn't looking for a end of line it would then read the next 133 characters. This would include the character you want to ignore, so your pattern would fail.
Good way to think about it is to apply the rules as if you are reading the file your self. In your mind you say read these characters then I want to ignore all the others in the row. You have to tell the file adapter to do the same.
Hope this explains.
cheers

• File Adapter with Content Conversion

Hi -
I am trying to convert a Flat file which has data as
firstnamelastnamecompanyName
Now i have created a message type which has a root name as Contact and its children are FirstName,LastName,Company.
And in the configurator i have created a file adapter with the content conversion, but being very new to XI i have never used a file adapter with content conversion. This is what i have in my Content Conversion Parameters.Please correct my code.
Document Name      ::   MT_Contact
Document Namespace ::   http://venkat
Document Offset :: i did not enter anything here
Recordset Name :: RootNode(i gave this name just like that,,, Should it be something from the IR??
Recordset NameSpace:: i did not enter anything here
Recordset Structure:: Contact (this is the name in my IR
Recordset Sequence ::  Ascending
Recordsets per Message :: Contact,* (Can someone explain what should be given here)
Then in the bottom in the name value pairs i have given
Contact.fieldNames   =   FirstName,LastName,Company
Contact.fieldSeparator = #
When i am using the above configuration the error i am getting in RWB is Error: Conversion initialization failed: Exception: java.lang.Exception: java.lang.Exception: Error(s) in XML conversion parameters found:
Format error in 'xml.recordset' argument: incomplete structure (name,number) pairInvalid 'xml.recordsetsPerMessage' value 'Contact,*' found
I am very new to XI and i am unable to understand what exactly each field means in the file adapter when the content coversion is used. Can someone take the pain of explaining them.
Thank you
Venkat

Hi,
Use the following to create an XML strucutre like this,
<MT_CONTACT>
<CONTACT>
<FirstName> </FirstName>
<LastName> </LastName>
<CompanyName> </CompanyName>
</CONTACT>
<MT_CONTACT>
DocumentName : MT_TEST
DocumentNamespace : Yournamespace
RecordserName : record
RecordsetStructure : CONTACT,1
In the table,
ignoreRecordsetName  : true
CONTACT.fieldNames : FirstName,LastName,CompanyName
CONTACT.fieldSeparator : #

• Sender File Adapter. Fixed Lengths and Field Separator

Hello guys,
I have a doubt in Sender File Adapter with Content Conversion.
I have a text file like:
a,b,c,,e
I have the configuration in the adapter:
Register.fieldNames: a,b,c,d,e
Register.fieldSeparator: ,
The question I have is can I format the length of the text when i create the XML?
I woul like to create the XML like:
<Row>
<Register>
a
b
c

e
</Register>
</Row>
I would like that when I create the file in Field A I have length = 4, but I have only 1 in the entry, and I want to fill the rest of the length with spaces.
I tried with FieldFixedLengths but when I test it the fields are not being formatted and take the commas as part of the field.
I know that this can be done in Receiver File Adapter, you leave for example one field of 5 length and you format it to 12 length with spaces.
Is this possible for Sender File ADapter?
Many thanks.
Regards,
Xavi.

hi,
See the example given in this bog, in this blog the string has been splited into different fields as per the field length, so you may use the same concept to get your output.

• Sender File Adapter with file conversion

Hi guys,
I’m using a Sender File adapter with file conversion. The message to be processed has a structure with fixed lengths and in your content are some values that needs to be ignored.
An example:
value1  value2  value3…
I want to ignore value 2 but I can’t find a parameter for that! Do I need to define dummy fields on my data type and ignore those fields during mapping? Or there is a specific parameter for that?
Thanks in advance,
Ricardo.

hi,
there always is another way:)
you can import the whole line to one field
and cut it inside the adapter module
(then you can define start and stop of the substring that you need to use)
but of course it's not standard even though it's quite easy to achieve in java

• File adapter with QoS=EOIO Is there any filesize limitation?

Dear Experts,
I'm using a File/FTP Sender adapter with Quality of Service = EOIO (Exactly Once In Order) to keep the polled order of the files.
In the processing parameters I defined a queue name and everything is working well for small (~1 MByte) files.
But if I want to transfer bigger (~25 MByte) files, the whole Java stack collapses and the system has to be restarted.
Is there any size limitation for this own defined queues?
Have you any experience with this kind of processing?
Any comments / experiences are welcome!
Best regards,
Andras

Hello,
there are several files to poll, we have to keep the alphabetical order of them.
It seems, that we have this issue only with EOIO. (EO works good)
After the system has restarted, the first file from the queue was processed, but with a n error message "Could not delete file 'filename.dat' after processing: java.lang.NullPointerException"
(the delete option is on after the transfer)
Is there any possibility to check the mentioned "QuicSized" settings?
I just wanted to know, if there is an "unofficial" size limit of these queues.
Thank you!

• Acknowledgement from receiver file Adapter with out BPM

Hi Gurus,
I am trying to get Acknowledgement from Receiver file Adapter with out Using BPM.
Here is the scenario. I am sending files from different Sender Adapters. There is only one target that is File Adapter. After each successfull and failure transaction I need an Acknowledgement that needs to trigger another receiver adapter and send the the file name and timestamp to that file.
Hope this is a complicated scenario. Please help me.
Thanks,
Kevin

from sap note 821267
6. Acknowledgements
* Q: Does the File Adapter support acknowledgements?
* A: You need to distinguish system acknowledgements (indicating that a message has been received by the target system) and application acknowledgements (indicating that the message has been successfully processed by the application on the receiver side).
The receiver of an XI message will only send an acknowledgement back to the sender if the sender has requested one. However, the File Adapter has no functionality that relies on the receipt of an acknowledgement, so it never requests one.
On the other hand, if a File Adapter Receiver receives a request to send an acknowledgement, it will do so for a system acknowledgement request. Application acknowledgements are not supported at all as the File Receiver has no way to determine if the written file has been correctly processed by the back-end application, which is what a positive application acknowledgement would imply.
this means that your requirement is ideally not possible without a BPM

• Using File Adapter with Logical Name

I am creating a file adapter with Logical name. Apart from giving the Logical name is there any other configuration that I am suppose to do on the Web Logic before I start using it?
Thanks in Advance.

After configuring the file adapter, all you need to do is , give the path as a value for the logical name which you have created earlier. That you can do on the file adapter property inspector. There is no need to do anything on the server level. Lemme know

• File adapter with empty files!

Hi guys,
My scenario is: File -> XI (BPM) -> JDBC
Under BPM I have a fork with two parallel receivers correlated and two sender file adapters for that. Those senders also have file conversion (.seq file to XML).
My problem is: in case of files coming empty, is it possible that senders file adapter generates error during file conversion? And/or generates errors during correlations?
If so, "I wouldn’t like", because after receive these two files I have a switch to check if the file(s) coming empty and a control step to terminate the process in case of true. But this only works if no errors have occurred on the earlier steps!
At this moment I can’t test it, so I’m asking If anyone has faced an issue like this one?
Thanks in advance,
Ricardo.

Hi,
Which SP are you on?
Before Sp19 on XI 3.0 and SP10 on Pi, Empty Files are ignored by XI. The file adapter picks the file and if it is a empty file ( a zero byets file ) the file does not create a message at all for the file.
From Sp19, the file adapter has options that allow you to decide how to process the empty file. You can create an error message etc.

• File Adapter with Conversion - XML with Hierarchy?

XI 3.0 (SP9)
We are using the inbound file adapter with conversion to convert a flat file that has header and line items. I would have thought that the data type should have been setup something like this:
<data type>

1

2

</data type>
Our flat file looks like this:
H12345
I12345
We have only been able to configure the file adapter to bring in the data like this:
<data type>

1

2

</data type>
What is the proper way to inbound data through a file adapter that has structure conversion like this?
Do all of the elements get put under the root node, or is there a way to build structure?
Do we need to build the data type to correspond with the exact way that the data will come in from the file adapter?
Thanks
Peter

Not quite sure what you want to get, as the flatfile and xml structure does not contain the same values.
However, I will try to give you an example:
Your flat file looks like this:
H12345
I12345
If the first row is header and the next is a line, then you need to specify the fila adapter with the following:
Document name = datatype
Recordset name = recordset
Recordset structure = header,1,item,*
Recordsets per message = *
Recordset sequence = Ascending (need SP10 for this, but you do not need it for this)
Keyfieldname = id
header.fieldFixedLengths = 1,5
header.fieldNames = id,number
header.keyFieldValue = H
header.lastFieldsOptional = Yes
item.fieldFixedLengths = 1,5
item.fieldNames = id,number
item.keyFieldValue = H
item.lastFieldsOptional = Yes
This will create something like this:
<datatype>
<recordset>

<number>12345</number>

<number>12345</number>

</recordset>
</datatype>
Hoever, if both rows are "item" rows , then you need to specify the file adapter with the following:
Document name = datatype
Recordset name = header
Recordset structure = item,*
Recordsets per message = *
Recordset sequence = Ascending (need SP10 for this, but you do not need it for this)
item.fieldFixedLengths = 1,5
item.fieldNames = id,number
item.lastFieldsOptional = Yes
This will create something like this:
<datatype>

<number>12345</number>

<number>12345</number>

</datatype>
Q: Do we need to build the data type to correspond with the exact way that the data will come in from the file adapter?
A: Yes!
Good luck!

Hello,
We are also having similar type of problems. In our installation the log is at/usr/sap/<INSTANCE>/DVEBMGS00/j2ee/cluster/server0/log/services/com.sap.aii.adapter.file.svc
In the log file, I see
2004:11:11 10:12:12 : File Adapter Administration Intialized
No file adapter configured
Not sure why it says that no adapter is configured even though we have couple File adapters configured with Adapter status active and all the objects have been activated.
I would really appreciate if anyone can point out, if I am missing something that I am supposed do to other than J2EE File adapter service being run and Activating a Fileadapter in the Integration Directory.

• How to use File Adapter with hierarchial Structure?

Hi,
How to use File Adapter with hierarchial Structure like..
Data:
--Header Details:
Line Item Details:
Data
Bcoz I am getting a Flatfile in a hierarchial way as shown below.
Header Details :1
Line Item a
Line Item b
Header Details :2
Line Item c
Line Item d
Kishore

Hey Kishore,
In order to create a structure you need to use the file with convertion mode on the sending communication channel of the file adapter.
check the link for the needed configuration paramters.
If the structure is more complexed you can use the Contetnt master(CM) from itemfield which allows to ceate XML file from complex flat files and more.

• Sender File adapter not picking the file ABCD.PRN extension file

Hi
Am doing File to Abap Proxy scenario. My source will be in text format of fixed length of fileds 7.
My souce file will be generated by a third party machine with the extension EEE150809.PRN. In my scenario my file adapter should pick the file and update the same in ECC via a Proxy.
I have configured the Sender File adapter with Message Protocol - Content Conversion but file adapter is not picking the file. I have checked the Communication channel and status is fine. But the same Communication Channel works for .XML file.
What are the parameters that I have to consider with the file extension .PRN using File adapter?
Thanks.
S.

Hi Swarna,
You dont need to worry about the extension when picking the file. You can try using EEE* so that is picks all the files starting with EEE. If you have the fixed name then you can try giving EEE150809.*. Also EEE150809.PRN should not have any issue. Try to see in sender commu ication cahnnel for anyerrors. Probably there might be some network issues or authorisation issues. If you are reading with NFS then ask them to give necessary permissions. If you are reading through FTP check the user id and pwd you are using.

• File adapter picking up partial files

Hi All,
We are facing a wierd problem with the File Adapter.
The problem is that, we are getting the xml files from the source system, and PI is supposed to pick them up and process them. Sometimes, the file adapter is picking up the empty files / partial files, i.e., before the file is completely written on to the FTP folder.
We tried increasing the polling interval. But this did not help. Since we are taking the files from the FTP, the option "MSecs" in Additional Parameters also will not work. As we are on PI 7.0 SP13, we tried to search for the "Empty File Handling" option wherein we can make the file adapter skip the 0kb files. But we are not able to find that option anywhere.
Please help us find a solution to this problem.
Thanks,
Hari.

Hari,
In sender communication channel click on Advanced. Then you see the paramter Msecs to Wait Before Modification Check. Add a value 3000. Then you should be good.

Hello!
We have a problem with a File adapter. when adapter catch file, this one don´t archive this file into archive directory.
We have:
Processing mode: Archive.
Archive directory : /XIcom/INT181_GECAT/LOG
This directory is created correctly.
Someone can i help me. Thanks.
Best regards.

Hi ,
>>>NFS File adapter don´t generate log file
Do you mean you are not getting the processed files archived only when the file adapter set to NFS File system ?
Did you try same thing by setting File adapter as FTP ?
If you face same issue with File adpter set in FTP mode also then there is some issue with access to the folders.
Please check this ...
