Ftp from Mac to PC is extremely slow!

Hi folkz
I have spent one whole day on the net searching to find a solution for my problem without luck.
On my pc i have installed RaidenFTPD server and i am trying to upload a file to it from my MPB which runs Leopard (including all patches).
I get around 50Kb/s which is much much below what i get if i try to send from another pc laptop to the same server. I should at least be getting over 600Kb/s.
My router is Belkin N1 and i'm on a WLAN.
On pc i'm also using a Belking N1 Wireless USB dongle. There is no setting for full-duplex as some ppl seem to think that help to play with.
I have tested Transmit and Forklift for my testing. Is this a knows OSX limitation perhaps?
Grateful for any help.

Anyone? ideas, tips?
I have performed the following but nothing works so far!

  • Blackberry desktop for Mac and Bold 9900 - extremely slow syncing?

Is it just me or does it take forever just to sync a few changes to photos or music to my Bold 9900 using the Blackberry desktop on mac?   Ok granted the first time I added over 1000 songs, several playlists and about 40 photos from iPhoto via the sync software, it took over 3 hrs to sync.  Personally I find that extremely slow, especially when comparing to my ipad or iphone and itunes syncing.   Today I wanted just to remove one photo album from my phone, so unticked it and resynced again.   Over half an hour before it finished!  The registering media with device step takes a very long time, as does the initial preparation stage......  surely there must be something wrong?
Without the wifi sync feature i can't imagine it being practical just to add one song to my phone through this software before popping out with the phone in the car.... I would need to give myself over 30 minutes in advance.
Any advice or help most appreciated.
    Thanks
    Simon

    Hey midinotes,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
It can take quite awhile to synchronize media to your BlackBerry.  Especially with the songs, 1000 songs it is normal to take a few hours.
The easiest way I add music to my BlackBerry is dragging the media files to the media card.  It's a lot quicker.

  • Extend wifi range from Mac Pro with Airport Extreme

I am trying to extend an office wifi, called "NetworkA" to my desk area. The signal comes from a Mac Pro (which is hard wired to our network) that has internet sharing enabled. I have an "AirPort Extreme Base Station A1354" and a "AirPort Time Capsule" at my disposal that I can use to use to extend the wifi. I did a hard reset of both devices.
When I connect the Extreme directly to the Mac Pro, "AirPort Utility" lists the device, but when I choose it and it starts to set up, I get the error "An unexpected error occurred. Try again.".
When I connect the Time Capsule directly to the Mac Pro, "Airport Utility" lists the device, but when I choose it and it starts to set up, the computer automatically switches to "NetworkB" (we have multiple wifis).
How can I extend "NetworkA"?? Thanks.

    Kappy wrote:
You need to configure the AEBS or Time Capsule to extend an existing network from the main wireless router. Then run an Ethernet cable from an AEBS LAN port to the Ethernet port on the computer.
You cannot do that if the main router is not apple.. I suspect it isn't.

    This is really messy..
Plug the airport directly into the same network the Mac Pro is in and use double NAT (that is all the Mac Pro is doing).
Then extend it with the other airport.. you can extend as long as you use two apple routers.

  • PowerMac 7200/120 to Mac Mini AppleTalk transfer EXTREMELY slow

    Ok,
I've got an old 7200/120 PowerMac which has been serving faithfully for a number of years now as our LetterRip mail server. Today it had a fairly serious crash and we cannot find our 8.5/6 CDs anywhere (and I can't seem to get it to boot with the 8.0 CD using command-option-shift-backspace either) so I decided it was finally time to transfer this server over to our Mac Mini which we just purchased and were in the process of setting up. THe problem is that I am doing an AppleTalk transfer of the LetterRip files from the PowerMac to the Mini (I can't seem to get any AppleTalk shares on the PowerMac to work to see it from the Mini).
It is "Preparing to Copy files" and it is up over 700,000 now. I assume this is bytes? There aren't 700,000 files there that I could see. The problem is that the directory and it's contents are about 100MB. It's gotten up to 700,000 (?) files in about 5 hours now.
Yikes, is this going to take a hugely long time to transfer?
Is there a better way to speed this up or get a repair disk for OS 8.6? I don't think I can wait 20 hours for it to prepare all this data (what is it "prepairing" anyways?)

Ah well that's wonderful. :P It's been going almost 6 hours now as I interrupted it earlier and had to restart it but I can see the destination (remotely) still has no files so I'll assume it's crashed. I've also discovered once I realized I didn't have AppleTalk enabled on the 10.4.8 Mini so it was timing out when trying to connect (you'd think system functions would at least check to see). Once I enabled Appletalk however I got the delightful message:
"This file server uses an incompatible version of the AFP protocol. You cannot connect to it."
I assume this is in part because OS 8.6 Appletalk doesn't support TCP/IP? This ruins my idea of transferring directories individually remotely using the destination machine. I've found much the same in this article.
Funny the OS 8.6 PowerMac thinks it can transfer data to the Mini.
I do have an old OS 9 G4 PowerMac laptop around somewhere (which has Appletalk with TCP/IP options) I could attempt to use as a proxy.
Or I supposed I could just yank the drive and stick it in my Linux server and server it out via afp/netatalk.
    Any suggestions?

  • Blocked Incoming FTP from Mac OS X Server Via The Mac Client Firewall

This problem began with Mac OS X Tiger's firewall and lives on in 10.6.2.
    Situation:
Anyone with Tiger through Snow Leopard connects to my Mac OS X Server, v10.3. They have 'Passive Mode' OFF in their FTP client. They are 100% successful logging in. Their FTP client sends the LIST command and the server successfully responds with the list data.
But the data can't get into the client's Mac. Why? The Mac OS X firewall BLOCKS IT.
The solution? Nothing sane! You have to turn the Mac OS X firewall OFF. There is NO OTHER SOLUTION.
All the settings on the client machine are perfect. I've been over them a hundred times over the years, tried every single combination possible. So please don't ask or I may bite you.
What's going on: Mac OS X Server 10.3, despite never accepting Passive Mode, sends the LIST data to all client computers in, you guessed it, Passive Mode. The Mac OS X firewall will NOT accept Passive Mode. Result: Catch 22. You can't do it. You are screwed.
Oh, but you could open all the Passive Mode ports in the firewall, and that would work? Be my guest. No way am I going to suggest that horror of a workaround to the hundreds of Mac clients I have accessing my Mac OS X Server.
So Apple, FIX THIS. Integrate FTP Passive Mode into the Mac OS X firewall already!!!

Ok. I was doing something a bit silly. I had the network user and the local user with the same short name. So when they were looked up the local user got preference. So I've fixed all that and am moving huge amounts of data across my humble 802.11g network now. Will have to leave it for a few hours.

  • Viewing photos from iPhoto in Apple TV extremely slow?

Approx 9k photos in iPhoto split into events
ATV connected to iMac hosting iTunes via gigabit ethernet
iPhoto library hosted on iMac's internal SSD drive
..so you'd think it's be as quick as a quick thing.
It's crazy slow to generate the Event thumbnails and then takes forever to start viewing the photos when you choose one.
Any ideas?  Or is this 'normal'?
    Thanks!
    Adam

Ok, I think that what ur doing is on Itunes ur selecting _All photos and Albums._ Try the middle one _All events_ that will put all ur pictures in events like u have it on ur Mac.

  • I have a new ipad with retina display and the orientation change from portrait to landscape is extremely slow? How can I improve the speed?

Any ideas on how to improve the speed ?

    Hi rodtheprod,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the issue you are describing. If a movie from the iTunes Store supports multiple languages, they can usually be changed as outlined in the following article:
    iTunes: Language settings for video
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5562
If this is not possible and no changes have been made to the country settings for the iTunes Store, you may want to try redownloading the movie (if it is still available):

  • Mac mini works extremely slow

    Hi
I have Mac mini that works extremely slow,
it starts to load the OS but turns really slow once the login is done, it takes about 30-40 min to load.
i did few tests like permissions verify and fix, then verify and repair disk which said that Macintosh HD is OK.
What should I do next? Its sounds like hardware issue - for my opinion its the HDD but I can't understand why when I use the Restore mode the computer works fast so maybe its OS issue related? Should I reinstall OSX?
what do you recommend for me as a Mac newbie user
    thanks a lot

The boot drive is failing, or you have some other hardware fault.
Back up all data immediately, then make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • When i installed yosemite on my mac book it runs very slow, is this normal ?

After installing OS X yosemite on my mac book it runs extremely slow. Is this normal ?

Slow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.
Memory in the MacBook Air is not upgradable. If that's what you have, you should restore the previous system from a backup, or replace the machine. Ask if you need guidance.

  • Deleting VM with snapshot/checkpoint is extremely slow in SCVMM 2012 R2

It appears deleting VM with checkpoint from SCVMM 2012 R2 is extremely slow.
    There is the configuration:
one SCVMM 2012 R2 running on Windows Server 2012 R2
one Windows Server 2012 R2 as file share server (SMB), stores all VM files. The share is managed by SCVMM . uses local SSD disk. two gigabit ethernet ports connected to a switch.
two hyper-v hosts running Windows Server 2012 R2, non-clustered, managed by SCVMM, each hosts has three gigabit Ethernet ports connected to the switch.
Everthing works including live migration. Here is the problem:
When I deleted a VM with checkpoint, it appeared that SCVMM/Hyper-V merges something, it took a lot of time on reading each AVHDX and write to VHDX, this results two problems:
    1. It took a lot of time and bandwidth. I am about to delete the VM (and all its files). Why SCVMM/Hyper-V wants to merge all files? The deletion took 29 minutes for a 36GB VM.  This VM is just plain standalone VM, no usage of template.
The expected result is to just delete all VM files and remove VM, don't do merge. (BTW: VMWare doesn't do merge, the deletion is done in a few seconds))
    2. although all data file are on the file share, the hyper-v host still reads each file from file share, then write to another file on the same file share. It consumes significant network bandwidth. Can they offload the work to file server?
The expected result is that Hyper-V offload the transfer to file share server. It should not create huge amount of network io.
    3. The merging operation is incredibility slow. around 24MByte/sec data being copied.
The hyper-v has 2xgigabit links, benchmark shows the file share access can easily go 200Mbytes/sec, and the file server side is SSD drive with 200+MByte/sec bandwidth. The expected result is if hyper-v ever merge, the speed is least 100MByte/s and hopefully
go up to 200MByte/sec.  21MB/s is just painfully slow.
    Did I miss anything?

Thanks for the info. Even there may be use cases where merge is necessary, there are plenty of use cases where merging is overkill -- can Hyper-V have a CLI option that deletes VM without doing merging?
If such option won't be available soon, can SCVMM do this on deleting a VM:
    1. revert to the latest checkpoint, delete the checkpoint
    2. repeat the step 1 until all checkpoint removed.
    3. delete the VM.
This workaround avoids the Hyper-V's merging. It is not as clean as VMWare's (they just delete the VM files, no extra merge), but at least it is much faster and less resource consumption than merging.

  • Macbook Air Extremely Slow Wireless

    Hello All,
Got my brand new MB-Air and from the get-go noticed extremely slow wireless performance. I did a bit of digging and here is what I found.
The MB-Air works OK with cheap (consumer) wireless APs, however when used in conjunction with the commercial APs most of which use the Atheros chipset the performance is horrible. I found that when connecting to APs that use Atheros' commercial chipset, the MB-Air connects with 802.11 G specs instead of N even when the signal metrics are excellent such as -39 RSSI.
Moreover, even With the 802.11 G connection at 54Mbps the performance is both sluggish and latent. Small file transfers have a 50/50 shot at working and large file transfers seem to die reliably. Albeit this could be an issue with Apple's implementation of SMB / Samba which is rather poor.
I have tried to turn off Bluetooth to see if my experience is different. We'll see.
I would be interested in feedback from people who are also experiencing the same poor wireless performance to learn the chipset of the AP they are having issues with.
By-the-way -- I will take a fix, if someone has come up with one. However my guess is that this is an engineering issue that Apple has to fix.
    BP

Sitting side-by-side, my MBA was averaging less than 1 Mb/s on downloads, and my MBP more than 9 Mb/s. The MBP was fully ten times faster. As you can imagine, viewing videos was a ragged, unpleasant experience on the MBA.
I'm using an early wireless-N Belkin router, so it didn't show up on airport utility, thus i couldn't change channels there as proposed on this thread. But to isolate the problem, at my brother's suggestion i took both computers to a Starbucks, and observed the two computers downloading there at equal speeds. So clearly the problem wasn't with my MBA, but my router.
I went to Belkin's website to figure out how to change channels on the router, and checked for firmware updates. There was one, so i figured I'd do that before attacking the "changing channels" task. I upgraded the firmware, and with that simple fix my MBA is happily zipping along now with >9 Mb/s downloads, same as the MBP. More than TEN times faster than before. My iPhone download speeds increased more than tenfold, too.
My advice, if you're having wireless problems with your MBA: First make sure your router's running the latest firmware.

  • Response time Extremely slow on MS Translator API

    Hi,
I am now using Translator API to translate input data from users in real time.
But I found that the response time from the API is sometimes extremely slow.
--- It takes 1 to 2 minute to translate only 5 to 6 characters and it certainly slow down my application
(it normally takes only a few seconds)
--- I am sure that I have enough quota.
I wonder if there is request limit in a minute and if so, how can I upgrade the limit so
I can keep my service work perfectly?
    Thanks

    Hi,
This is totally unsusual. For strings in the two to three thousands characters it should not take more than a few 100ms. Can you try again and tell us if you still see this behavior?
Our service is up and running (just go to bing.com/translator and you'll be able to test for yourself the speed of translation for a several hundreds characters sentence) so I'm not sure how to help you out here if it is still the case and your internet
    connection is working fine.
