FTP Hanging

When I connect to, update, or try to change sites, I am
constantly getting a "Dreamweaver is currently interacting with a
server" after I have completed an upload or change. I have even
left Dreamweaver open and connected for two hours and come back to
either upload or change to a different site, and it is still
interacting with the server. I have no such problems with my PC,
and they have the exact same site settings, except for the local
folders. This happens with all my sites, and the only way to get DW
to stop interacting is to close it. This happen with CS3 and CS4.
Is DW so desperate for interaction that it cannot let go of
whatever server it connects to? ;-) This is one of the biggest
frustrations I have with DW CS3 & CS4 on my Mac.

Just as a counterpoint, DW's FTP is all I have ever used (or
needed to use)
since DW2....
So much depends on your local environment and the server's
setup.

  • Media Encoder and FTP hang?

    Does Adobe Media Center appear to hang when uploading a big file? I'm seeing network activity and a program called PhotoshopServer.exe is running and using a little CPU power but Media Encoder says that it is Not Responding.
    I'm running on Vista 64-bits.
    I'm going to let it run for awhile before terminating but it seems like FTP should be in its own thread/program and not stop Encoder from running.

    I use this feature quite often, and yeah...it sometimes takes awhile to upload the finished file and AME just sits there until it's done.
    You'll see the green check mark when it's all done uploading.

  • Remote Java applet ftp hangs

    Hi,
    I have a java applet that ftps files back to a server. It is correctly signed and can access files on the hard drive.
    When downloaded and run as a local applet it works fine, however when downloaded as a remote applet it just hangs at the line
    FTPClient ftp = new FTPClient();
    No error messages, no clue, just gets no further than that.
    Apologies if this is a bit vague or missing any vital information, but java isn't really my thing....
    Cheers
    Ralph

    Thanks, I'm running 1.6.0_12.
    No, FF has the option but nothing happens when I click on it. I just upgraded today from v3.5.x because under that version the option is there but when clicked on it deactivates the option. I first tried upgrading to the latest console plugin for FF. As soon as I installed it and FF restarted it said that it was desupported and next time it re-started it just does nothing as I said. So I upgraded to v3.6.13 and re-started and same same. It says it's de-supported. I dunno.
    Anyway, I went to the System tray Java icon and right-clicked on it and clicked on properties. Under 'Advanced | Java Console' I see I had it as "hide Console". I changed it to "Show Console". When I started an Applet I got the console. I closed it and now I don't get it again. Weird.
    I just cancelled the Java icon in the system tray and restarted it. I checked it back to Hide the Java Console and "Apply", then Show it, and "Apply". Then I started an Applet. No dice. I started it again and Got the Console. But is seems if I close it I can't get it back without all this riggamorole.

  • Help, Dreamweavers FTP hangs and crashes my computer -

    Hi,
    since a while Dreamweavers FTP functions won’t work
    properly any more … lots of timeouts, incomplete uploads and
    syncs , crashes … that with any server I’m connecting
    to.
    Does anybody know what could have caused this change of mind
    of the before reliably working Dreamweaver ? I’ve done no
    program update etc. which could have caused the problem at that
    point. My other Smart-FTP program still works fine.
    Thx, Frank

    Sorry - those are only your DW settings. What are the
    settings in your
    Firewall app? Such connection problems are usually related to

  • FTP Connection Issues Dreamweaver CS5.5

    I can't ftp into the top level directory of any of my hosting accounts with dreamweaver cs5.5
    This is becoming a major issue and I'm aware now of other users with the same issue.
    First  log in to an ftp server works fine - the test case directory is created  and deleted - and I think it is this which is causing some odd  permissions issue.
    Second time you try to log in, the connection is made,  but then any directory listing times out. However if I define a  directory such as /public_html/images/ then it will connect and display  directory listings just fine.  Clicking "Test" in the server definition dialog results in an OK message.
    If i FTP in using a different FTP Client (in this case  Transmit) and upload a single file, the issue goes away, and  dreamweaver can again connect - one time only, until I perform this odd  "reset".
    This happens on all FTP connections across multiple  hosting companies (all of the hosting companies my clients sites are  stored at).
    FTP log is below:
    < 257 "/www"
      < 220 Welcome to Proweb Server FTP service (JubJub).
      > USER winfo
      < 331 Please specify the password.
      > PASS
      < 230 Login successful.
      > PWD
      < 257 "/"
      > CWD /
      < 250 Directory successfully changed.
      > CWD /www
      < 250 Directory successfully changed.
      > PWD
      < 257 "/www"
    Then it waits for a while before  giving me the following error message (I've extended timeout to anything  up to a couple of minutes, no difference):
    Toggling the "USE Passive FTP"  checkbox may help you establish a connection. -Select or de-select the  checkbox and click Test to tray again.
    -if you are connecting  using an IPv6 enabled server, please select the "USE IPv6 transfer mode"  checkbox in the Advanced site definition dialog.
    If  the problem persists, check you network settings, including the local  firewall settings on your computer, or consult your network  administrator.
    I have tried PASV checked and unchecked, performance optimisation, and every other combination available to me. I am not connecting through a proxy.
    The  settings on ALL of my sites worked before the cs5.5 upgrade. The  settings on NONE of my sites with a root directory specified work since  the upgrade.  The only thing that has changed is the move to dreamweaver  cs5.5.  I can connect with other ftp clients.  my ftp server settings  are correct. My server and network settings are unchanged. The settings on ALL my sites on other FTP clients continue to work fine.
    Am on an i7 2.8GHz Intel iMac running 10.6.7 with 8 gigs of RAM. I have quit all software except dreamweaver and tried running my mac firewall both on and off.
    Really running out of ideas, and know of other people with the same issue since the upgrade - what's going on Adobe?!

    Same for me, in that I had an unreliable and effectively unusable FTP connection with CS5.5 . I've reverted to CS5, because even though I'll miss a couple of the new features I need to have a working connection to the site when working with PHP - because otherwise I can't see my site at all other than via Firefox. I also suspect that at least a couple of times I've had some sort of corruption occur as a result of the FTP hanging. All was okay before CS5.5, and I may have slagged off a different hosting provider than my present one when it was in fact (at least in part) a DW issue. If it isn't fixed in CS6 then CS6 is unusable for me and I'd definitely be happier with 'unenhanced' CS5 FTP functionality. The theoretical performance gains with the CS5.5 implementation are trivial by comparison with the problems. If all else fails, please revert to CS5 code for the FTP side of things.
    UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is now fixed for me. The problem was that I did not have a proper web url entered in my site definition for the remote server. I'm not sure how that was placing any limitation on FTP access - after all, the need for a full site definition was removed a couple of software issues ago - but the fact is that with the correct web address entered I have working FTP on CS6 (and seemingly on CS5.5 too). I had a simple forward slash entered for the web address, probably as a result of some earlier investigation of the local server/remote server relationships for file upload on a PHP site. I was running CS5 with the correct Web Url entered, so that was working and the CS5.5, without the correct Web Url, was not. I vaguely remember reading that the Web Url was connected with DWs management of absolute/relative links and not much else, but it seems that is not the case. The new FTP is MUCH faster and I'm a happy guy. Site menu>>>Manage sites>>>[select your site]>>>Edit>>>Servers>>>[2-click your server]>>>Web URL:    Put in the full URL e.g. http://www.somesite.com . Not sure if you need a trailing / after, but I have one.
    UPDATING AGAIN: Through all of that I had turned on the  'IPv6 protocol' and 'Passive FTP' options in an attempt to get working. The result of that was FTP that worked well once transferring files but often took a while to hook up. Deselecting those, and using CS6, I'm happy with my FTP.

  • Logistics on FPT-ing linux file

    I run linux at home. I am fortunate to be able to FTP at my
    employer at 250k/sec down to my Windows95 workstation, so I can
    get the 815ship.* files pretty quicky. (As an aside, the FTP
    hangs on the full file, but I can easily get files 1-9 - any
    ideas?).
    I also have a colleague with a write-able CD-ROM. You can
    probably see where this question is heading.
    I would like to get these files to my linux machine at home in
    this manner. I access my linux machine via telnet over
    ethernet, so I can FTP them over from my Windows machine at home
    from the CD ROM drive.
    My question is if there would be any errors introduced into the
    mix by doing, such as incompatible file systems, corruption of
    data, etc. I remember a posting from another group saying there
    may be some problems doing this.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Jerry,
    I use CuteFtp on my NT and it took more than a day to get the
    250+ MB file. I ftp the file from my NT to my Linux and extracted
    it there and it worked without any problem. I am in the process
    of creating a database rite now. So I don't think you will have
    any problem.
    Hope this help.

  • Unable to create remote folder

    When I attempt to go to the data bindings on an ASP form I
    have, I get the following error:
    Unable to create remote folder 550 _mmdbscripts: Access
    Denied
    The form works fine, but I can add any new fields to the form
    because I get this error when I attempt to update the field list
    under server behaviors.
    Any suggestions?

    Does your FTP hang on all sites? Or this this the only one?
    How many sites
    do you have? Does it hang with all folders or only these
    specific ones?
    What happens if you create a new folder in the site and try
    to upload that?
    Such curious FTP problems in DW are almost ALWAYS the result
    of an
    interference from your local firewall - are you running one?

  • Nautilus problem - FTP transfers hang..

    Hay fellow Archors
    I need some input on a strange issue, what i cant resolve on my own..
    When i connect with Nautilus to an FTP server and tries to copy over a folder to my harddrive the following happens
    It counts "prepares" the tranfer and tell me that there are eg 28 Mb and 5000 files and then the transfering stops. The "file operation" window just hangs..
    I am running Gnome-Shell and i would like your input how to resolve OR debug this problem..
    I have read the wiki and asked google for help, så any ideas would be appiciated.

    Maybe this is the same problem as  described here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=121191
    Apparently, it seems to be a bigger problem within the handling of ftp with gvfs.
    Actually I use FireFtp for transfering data to or from an ftp server.
    Bay teh way: at the moment, I test KDE 4.7 a little bit. With the Dolphin file manager, copying files via ftp seem to work without any problems.

  • FTP from Solaris 10 to Windows Hangs on some PDF files

    Documents containing images and Eastern European characters have been PDF'd on Windows machines (XP) using various versions of Adobe Acrobat (5 and 8 certainly), and are uploaded to Web Serving apps running on Solaris 10 systems. Retrieval of the PDF of certain of these documents stalls and never completes. Using standard FTP services, the same condition occurs. FTPing the file from Windows to Solaris has no problem. The return journey fails. The original Word documents that were used to create the PDFs transfer without errors. It appears that somethin inside the PDF is causing a problem with the Solaris FTP server. Is this a known problem? Is there a known workaround?

    The FTP from the Solaris system to a Windows system fails - just a simple file transfer. It first manifested itself when trying to retrieve from within a Browser, even when directing the Browser to save the file - both IE6 and Firefox 3.0. Investigation showed the same behavior using Windows FTP and FileZilla from XP systems. The problem appears to be at the Solaris FTP server which just hangs at a certain point through the transfer. Filezilla times out and tries the transfer again. After two failures it abandons the transfer. Browser file transfers just stall. We suspect this is caused by some sequence within the file that affects the server.

    Muse, 7.2 seems to have trouble completing an FTP host upload.  At about 64% completion Muse seems to stop with any further progress.  I've waited fifteen minutes then Cancel the operation.  I repeated this two more times with the same results.

  • My FTP works but is very slow, hangs on 'waiting for server', fix???

    Hi guys
    My FTP connects but its constantly hanging and saying 'waiting for server', eventually it connects.
    My other ftp clients connect instantly, its just DW, sometimes my filezilla may halt but not as bad as DW does.
    I can use port 22 and its instant but reading this http://forums.adobe.com/thread/734356?tstart=0 will tell you why I can't use port 22.
    Not sure what to do here, ive tried changing loads of settings and I get the same thing, I dont want to have to use an external FTP client as that would slow my workfllow considerably.
    Also I think its a mac issue, if i try this in another building on windows 7 it connects instantly.
    If i set my timeout to something really high like 90 seconds it eventually connects.
    Anyone got any ideas??
    Thanks

    So using a separate FTP client is out of the question? I ask because my workflow uses a separate FTP app - it makes it much easier to troubleshoot FTP, server, and file permission issues. And it doesn't crash Dreamweaver. So again, are you sure you can't adjust your workflow to use a separate FTP application? (I use Transmit on the Mac and it has some wonderful features including a built-in Sync capability)
    How do you have Dreamweaver's FTP functionality set-up?
    Are you using Passive FTP?
    Are you using a reverse proxy server in your network?
    Have you tried the Mac Network Utility to ping your FTP server?
    What kind of ping times are you getting?
    Do you experience network latency issues frequently?
    Do you have Mac OS X's Firewall enabled and have you tried disabling it before an FTP session - does this effect anything?
    Have you tried unchecking Dreamweaver's Use FTP performance optimization? (Site Definition->Advanced->Remote Info->Server Compatibility)?
    Do you have any network engineers in your IT department? Can they look at their information and maybe see what might be happening on the network?

  • FTP transfers hang in CS3 for Mac/10.5.4

    This is a topic that has been continually raised on this
    forum, but never fully solved. I am using Dreamweaver CS3 on Mac OS
    10.5.4.
    When making a connection to my site's host, the client
    connects properly, several files are transferred, then the
    connection hangs as Dreamweaver continually tries to upload a file,
    but is unsuccessful. This occurs while uploading different pages
    with different files. The hang occurs after a few seconds of
    activity.
    For the record, I have tried both passive and non-passive
    transfers, I am not operating behind a firewall, I have altered the
    connection timeout settings from everything between 3 seconds to
    120 seconds (60 is default). My site uses a fixed IP address and
    the problem occurs both on my desktop (Mac Pro) and my laptop
    (Macbook Pro) in different locations with different networks.
    Background: Dreamweaver MX had this problem, CS2 fixed it,
    CS3 has broken it again:
    Dreamweaver
    FTP problem
    Fact: Using the exact same connection settings in Transmit,
    the transfers have no problem. Dreamweaver CS2 does not have this
    problem, either on Mac or PC.
    It's time that Adobe got serious about fixing this. When a
    thread exists with 80+ messages of complaint and there is no
    resolution, there is a problem.
    If anyone can shed light on this, it would be most
    appreciated.

    Ok, first off that thread was solved from what I read. The
    original poster had an issue where they could only connect to their
    server via IP address and not the domain name in 10.5.0 and 10.5.1.
    They were told to fix the DNS and that the 10.5.2 update solved the
    issue from Apple's end when it was released. This is now 10.5.4 so
    this problem should be gone from the original poster because that
    topic was started in October of last year.
    Next, Mac does have a firewall by default like Windows. Look
    in the System Preferences->Security->Firewall. Set it to
    allow all incoming connections (basically off).
    Next, have you gone through the FTP troubleshooting steps?
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14834
    If you have not gone through those at this point I would
    highly recommend starting there. This will eliminate the cause a
    bit more. Also on the Mac platform, I do not believe that I have
    ever seen DW transfer successfully when Passive FTP is turned off
    due to the Mac firewall, so I would recommend leaving that checked
    while you test through the above KB article.
    If you continue to have issues with the FTP after going
    through those steps please post back with the progress.
    And one other note. Adobe does not normally check these
    forums. If you do require advanced support Adobe does have contact
    information which can be found from the link at the top of these
    forums (and every page of the site if I am not mistaken).
    And lastly, as a suggestion I would recommend downloading the
    CS4 beta (
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/dreamweavercs4/
    ). All you need to run it past the 2-day limit is your CS3 serial
    number. If something is broken in that version you would be more
    likely to see it patched before the release as opposed to CS3 which
    is on its way out. Also on that page you will find a link to the
    CS4 forums which Adobe does check for bugs being that it is a beta
    product.

  • StartHandshake() hangs on FTPS Client implementation

    Hi,
    I'm working on developing a small FTPS client test program that connects to an FTP server using explicit SSL. I first connect with a standard socket, then send the message "AUTH TLS" I get back "234 AUTH TLS-C/TLS OK." meaning the server is ready to switch to a secure connection. Immediately after, I call the startHandshake() method and that's where the process gets stuck (or if I set the timeout interval to a minute it'll eventually time out.) I can connect fine with SecureFTP (based on Java) to the FTP Server using the same host, port, and with explicit SSL. Any ideas on what could cause this?
    Here's a relevant portion of the code based off of the Apache FTPClient source:
    From my test file:
    FtpsClient peoplesFTP = new FtpsClient();
    peoplesFTP.connect(HOST, PORT);Which calls this inside FtpsClient.java
    public void connect(String address, int port) throws SocketException, IOException
              super.connect(address, port);
              System.out.println(this.getReplyString());
              this.secure();
         }And the secure method inside Ftpsclient.java
         public void secure() throws IOException
              this.sendCommand("AUTH", "TLS");
              System.out.println(this.getReplyString());
              SSLSocket socket = (SSLSocket) this.context.getSocketFactory().createSocket(this._socket_, this.getRemoteAddress().getHostAddress(), this.getRemotePort(), true);
              socket.setSoTimeout(10000);
              try {
                   socket.startHandshake();
              } catch (SocketTimeoutException e) {
                   System.out.println("Socket timed out");

    HELP!!!
    I am using the FTPS Client implementation and have the (-Djavax.net.debug=all) turned on. From what I can see in the logs it's doing the handshake and accepting the cert. However, the logs it just hangs and prints out:
    AUTH TLS
    Then the socket times out... Help... what am I missing? Any help and/or guidance would be greatly appreciated
    Here's my code snippet:
    ftps = new FTPSClient(false);
    ftps.setRemoteVerificationEnabled(false);
    int reply = 0;
    // Trust All Server Certs
    TrustManager[] trustAllCerts = new TrustManager[] {
         new X509TrustManager() {
              public X509Certificate[] getAcceptedIssuers() {
                   return null;
              public void checkClientTrusted(X509Certificate[] certs, String authType) {
                   // everything is trusted
              public void checkServerTrusted(X509Certificate[] certs, String authType) {
                   // everything is trusted
    // SSL Instance
    SSLContext sc = SSLContext.getInstance("TLSv1");
    sc.init(null, trustAllCerts, new SecureRandom());
    SSLSocketFactory socketFactory = sc.getSocketFactory();
    Socket plain = new Socket (server, port);
    SSLSocket socket = (SSLSocket) socketFactory.createSocket(plain, server, port, true);
    socket.setSoTimeout(10000);
    try {
         socket.startHandshake();
         logger.info("Start Socket HandShake");
    } catch (SocketTimeoutException e) {
         logger.error("Socket timed out");
    ftps.setSocketFactory(socketFactory);
    TrustManager trustManager = trustAllCerts[0];
    ftps.setTrustManager(trustManager);
    ftps.setBufferSize(1000);
    ftps.addProtocolCommandListener(new PrintCommandListener(new PrintWriter(System.out)));
    ftps.connect(server, 990);
    socket.close();
    System.out.println("Connected to " + server + ".");

  • FTP Functionality in Finder causes Hang

    On my brand new (and software updated) Leopard build, visiting two FTP locations in a row causes Finder to hang and become unresponsive. The only option is to go to Force Quit and click 'Relaunch'.
    To recreate this bug, I clicked on two SRTM data file FTP links from within Google Earth. The first loads and begins downloading. Clicking on the second link hangs Finder.
    I think these are just the same as hyperlinks in any other program, but to recreate exactly, the Google Earth overlay I was using is one for Shuttle Topography data, and is at http://www.ambiotek.com/srtm - clicking on the green triangles shows you a number of ftp and http links to choose to download. Clicking on two of these in a row causes Finder to hang.

    I made some comments in another thread about providing feedback and filing bugs with Apple; maybe that will help you:

    I've found that joining ADC and filing bugs through that forum is the best way to get attention. I've had many email exchanges with Apple engineers because of bugs filed in this way...
