FTP on Mac/Safari

I don't know if this is a problem with the server or the
browser or what. But I try to FTP files to my website with Safari
and a message comes up saying the root folder i am trying to upload
to in not editable. I'm pretty sure this only happens with the
Mac/Safari, as I am able to upload to any of my websites fine
through Internet Explorer on the PC. Anyone know what the problem
could be?

What do you mean by "passive FTP"? How can I check if mine
has this setting, and how would i change it?

Hi.
I'm new to mac, and can't seem to upload files to FTP sites (for website hosting/updates etc)
On my old windows machine, I could just drag & drop the files onto the FTP site, but safari won't even let me open the FTP site at all.

Drag the Safari icon straight up and off the Dock so it goes, "poof" ...
Now click and hold the Safari app in the Applications folder and drag that to the Dock.
See if you can open a webpage in Safari.

SharePoint 2013 SSRS SQL 2012 SP1 and Mac Safari 5.1 or 6.0 report issues

I have been try to figure out an issue that only seems to be affecting Safari 5.1 or 6.0 on OSX 10.6.8 or 10.7. I can view the same reports as the same user on the same Mac as the same user in Chrome 27.0.1453.116 or Firefox 22. I have also tested
iPads (iPad2 iOS 6.1), Android tablets and phones (ICS 4.0.4 and JB 4.2.2), and even an Microsoft Surface and they all work fine.
The issue is when viewing a report through SharePoint 2013 in Safari regardless of if the report has parameters or not is it looks like the page just keeps reloading. The problem is not that I can't see the report viewer which is most of the issues
related to SSRS 2008R2 and 2012. I can see the report view and I can even put in parameters. However when I click Apply the follow activity occurs.
On Safari the following occurs
POST: RSViewerPage.aspx
GET: 302 Found default.aspx /_login: Size 0B, Transfer 1.67KB
GET: 302 Found default.aspx /_windows Size 0B, Transfer 1.15KB
It seems like the browser is redirected to login again. If I do this with a report that does not have parameters the "Loading" gif will appear forever with the same cycle going on with the page loading over and over. I did read something about
Safari not supporting pass through authentication in 5.1. However if that is the problem then why is Safari listed as a supported browser, or not listed with that caveat on the browser support page?
In Chrome this same set of step 302 to occur if I do not use the report for a while. After hitting apply the report appears to refresh to a blank report without any parameter values selected. The POST/GET activity mimics what I am seeing for Safari.
However unlike Safari, if I immediately put the parameters in again and click apply the report works as expected. Also when the report loads as expected I do not see the 302 to default.aspx /_login and /_windows.
So what is different about Safari on OSX that is preventing it from displaying reports correctly when just about every other supported OS/Browser combination including some that aren't officially supported work perfectly fine with the same report?

That Connect Bug (see previous post) has got a response from Matt at Microsoft. He advised that Mac Safari support for SSRS 2012 only works for Mac OS X 10.6 - 10.7. It seems some breaking change was introduced in Mac OS X 10.8.

So he has closed it as "Resolved - By Design".
Our Macs are currently on OS X 10.9 and 10.10 was recently released.
SQL 2014 might offer better support - I have one client planning to start upgrading in the New Year.

When i updated OS X update to 10. 10.2 and iTunes to 12.1 and restarted my mac, safari got messed up

I updated my OS X and iTunes today and when I restarted my mac, safari got messed up. No matter how many times I change the preference of the new windows and tabs to favorites and remove the homepage site, it always get back to what it was-- homepage for both and search-quick.com for the homepage site. I can't open a new tab/window with the favorite--and it's very annoying since it opens with the search-quick.com. I've never installed search quick program, and I can't get rid of it. On the preference, the google is set to my search engine but whenever I search something it uses that search quick site. I don't know how to get rid of it and I want to remove it so bad. The biggest issue is whatever I click, the useless ads (mackeeper, justcloud, seniorsoulmates, McAfee, etc) keeps popping up on the new tabs. Literally, it pops up whenever I click something. It's driving me crazy- what should I do?

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Problem with Spry Tabbed Panels and Mac Safari

On a site I'm working on I have implemented Spry Tabbed
Panels. Everything was great until my boss looked at it on his Mac
Safari. Spry doesn't seem to honor the 100% width, and cuts it off.
I have looked at the CSS and don't see what is holding it up.

Wow, so I am the only one that has ever used Spry that
doesn't work in Safari? I find that hard to believe.
So let me twist this another way. Does anyone know why a div

Mac Safari to PC Safari

I am running safai on my mac and have icloud all set up correctly to share bookmarks. I have recently installed Safari on my PC in the hope that all my bookmarks would automatically sync. Unfortunately this does not seem to be happening. I downloaded and installed Icloud on my PC and attempted to set it up however when I turn on the bookmark sync facility it will only let me select the "sync with internet explorer". I presume that doing will will add all of my IE bookmarks to my safari browser, and possibly even add my work IE bookmarks to my home mac safari. Unfortunately the bookmarks that I have on my mac simply are not appearing on my PC version of Safari, even though both seem to be correctly logged into Icloud. Am I doing something incorrectly or is it simply not possible to do what I want? I cannot see why not though, since both my MAc and PC versions of chrome sync together perfectly through my gmail account, which seems to be no different from a Safari / Icloud setup. Any assistance would be hugely appreciated since I no longer want to use IE or Chrome and would love my PC, MAc and Iphone so sync together perfectly without me installing chrome on my iphone. You could try the Network named System Preference control pane to see
if you can change the settings your machine has for wireless and other
network access to facilitate making the proper connection to your wi-fi base.
Depending on what kind of network you have available, your Mac should
just see it; but there are rare occurrences where some brands of base
station act oddly with AirPort cards. Usually they just work, once the
settings are configured correctly for your setup.
Do you see an active Airport icon in the menubar? That's a start if you do;
but that won't mean anything if your Network panel settings have Airport
ignored in favor of, say Ethernet or maybe a dialup modem, etc. Or if
you don't have the setting to Automatic for Airport; and that's why a view
into those Network panel settings and options is important.
Many users near an open wireless frequency find the Airport just works
when they first run a new Macintosh. My brother was getting all of his
neighbor's listings in his wireless Macs; some finally set up WPA or other
network protections. He fine-tuned his for that neighborhood so it would
be first in his own access to the internet; and he sees it by name in the
AirPort menubar tool and in the Network panel settings; like I have mine.
There are several details involved here, none should be difficult. Best of

Mac Safari can't display ikea website properly but iPad Safari can

Anyone noticed this? I was browsing Ikea website on my Mac mini today, and realize the color and buy online option for the furniture can't de displayed on the Mac Safari, but my iPad Safari can display these options without any problem. I thought it's the Mac Safari, so I switched to Firefox, still, no color and buy online options...

Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
As Guest, launch Safari and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

I am having a problem calling external javascript functions from xsl on mac safari, i am trying to generate a dropdown dynamically from an xsl document using XSLTProcessor through javascript, following is the code snippet of the xsl document

here the function onEmailSubTypeChange() is present in an external js file, all the other functions from this files are executed successfully except the ones which are defined in the xsl document.
I have also tried replacing onclick="onEmailSubTypeChange();" with onclick="javascript:alert('hello world');" but the event is not getting fired at all since i cannot see any alert on the selected item change of the dropdown.
Is there a way in which i can achieve this ?

Which meta name="viewport" tag best used for Mac/Safari iPhone?

Received suggestion as a result of posting question on the PVII forum, and included in the response was the suggestion that the DW CS6 automatically generates would be best changed to another, as follows:
DW CS6 tag: <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
The preferred tag for responsive pages suggested alternative was:
Suggested alternative: <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width">
Can both be used in some way without conflict, or which one would be best, if indeed there is a preference or desired "best practice" across the broadest spectrum of available devices being in common use?
Again, this seems applicable to iPhones, and Safari, and as I'm Mac/Safari oriented, this opened another door in responsive design of which I am absorbing; or trying to understand.

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
The second version is considered to be preferable, although there's not much to choose between them. The important element is setting width to device-width. Without it, most smartphones will scale the page to fit into a nominal viewport approximately 960px wide.
By the way, there's nothing wrong with working on a specific operating system, but don't become blinkered by your Mac/Safari preference. It's the World Wide Web, not the Mac/Safari Web.

Alt-s quick post? What is it on a Mac/safari?

Hi guys, I've recently bought a mbp, and I'm coming from a pc background using firefox, for browsing forums. Since the mbp I haven't been able to submit or post a response by using the quick keys Alt-s to post, which I am able to on Firefox. Can you guys assist me, and advise how to do this on a Mac / safari.
Whether it's a different combo of keys, or a way of setting up quick keys on the mbp?

With the Al MacBooks you can program the trackpad in Syst Prefs so the right click is in the lower right corner of the pad (tried it and went back to CTRL-Click)

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does it work in the new account?
