FTP on Safari?

i am trying to bookmark an ftp download site for my website that is of the form:
ftp://[email protected]//[email protected]
i know this is a mouthful but it is the correct url and when i enter it into Safari it kicks it out into Firefox which I also have loaded but try to never use. Does anyone know if there are settings in Safari that control this or what is happening here?
is ftp controls set in safari, firefox or elsewhere?
is there a better way to handle ftp on the mac?
all my searches show very old threads on this topic.
TIA

I was able to mount the ftp site with cmd-K, but
could not upload a file. "Insufficient permissions",
Get Info says "read only", with no options to change.
There is no problem uploading a file to this ftp
site using Transmit.
What now?
Use Transmit. You cannot upload via ftp using cmd-K in OS X.

  • How To Upload Via FTP In Safari?

How do you upload via FTP in Safari? I can't find ANYTHING in the Safari Help pages about FTP. No mention of it whatsoever. Yet, I know it can be done.
I entered my own FTP address into the Address Bar and typed in my username and password. I successfully "logged in" to my own webspace. I could see all my files and folders. However, I could neither upload/add or delete any files. Why is this?
I used to be able to do this in Internet Explorer on a PC with no problems. Why can't Safari and a Mac do it?

I don't believe you can use Safari for the FTP upload function. This is done via the Finder.
In the Finder: Go menu>Connect to Server or "Apple Key + K":
Enter the FTP address in the browser window (click on the + sign to retain the address) and select "connect" . Once the connection is made, the Server will appear in the Finder Window on the left sidebar. You can drag/drop files to this location, or drag/drop from this location to your Finder.
If you need something more sophisticated, a Google Search under "FTP Mac Intel" might prove helpful.

  • Cannot FTP  TO or FROM safari windown after connected....

    Hello All:
For some reason, once connected FTP through safari, it does not let me drag anything from or to the window that is open.
Is there a setting that I am missing or a parameter in the address bar that I forgot to add?
Thanks for any help or advice on this,
    Paul

    HI,
    Try repairing disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Ftp support in Safari?

When trying to link to an FTP site, Safari does not seem to work. But Firefox works just fine.
Am I missing a plug-in, or does Safari simply not support FTP access?

Safari does not support FTP access at this time.

  • Dreamweaver 8 on INtel Mac ftp problems????

The basic setup: I have an emac, installed Dreamweaver 8 (actually the entire studio package), it works fine. I want to move our webpage to a new imac (intel). I've copied the files, installed Dreamweaver 8, done the set up for the site.
The problem is: I can't get the FTP connection to work. Whether I'm in the SIte Management section, the TEST part, or trying to connect (with the little electric plug icon), I get this message...a file activity window opens, "An FTP error occured -- Cannot make connection to host. Dreaweaver could not connect because the serve is down or not accepting connections."
Things I've tried: I've explored diligently the Adobe/Dreamweaver website.
I've deleted the Files for Dreamweaver, the web site files from the local host, I've tested the connection using other FTP methods (safari -- a test suggested by Adobe or FEtch); I read some of the posts here after searching for Dreamweaver/Intel items. The server is not down since I've been able to connect an upload from another computer; the computer does perform FTP using other methods...which I suppose I can do...but it makes an extra step.
    I"ve tried using Passive FTP or not; I've tried everything I can think of...or suggested by outside sources (adobe, an instructor who teaches Dreamweaver, the Apple forums here); I modified the Hard drive name to eliminate spaces;
I've come to the conclusion it is more an "Apple" issue rather than a Dreamweaver issue.
I'm using the Dreamweaver on an emac and it works flawlessly!! But I need to use the emac for other purposes and set up the website on the Intel imac...
The Question: Any ideas or solutions or something to try????
Thanks for any help, suggestions, ideas. Cathy (working in an elementary school computer lab...)

Yes--I've tried the "test" ftp address suggested by Dreamweaver; I've used fetch to connect as well as upload something.
I've connected to the server from another computer....
Thanks for trying but...the server seems to be functioning okay.

  • Cant open ftp site on ipad

Hello. I have to figure out a way to allow ipad users to open a specific ftp folder from our ftp site on their ipads. so far when i attempt to open the ftp url safari tells me i have no permission. if i try it at my computer it works properly and prompts me for a password. the only option i have found is to give these people access to the whole ftp site via one of the many ftp apps out there. the problem with that is they may end up deleting something they shouldnt or seeing something they are not supposed to have access to.
    ftp://[email protected]/CEB%20Joint%20meeting%20October%2017   is the url

Try to reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.

  • Planning for Macbook (pro?) Questions about recording audio + multitasking

    Hi Everyone
I am seriously contemplating switching to a Mac book (Pro?) in the next few months, and I want to clarify issues about recording audio.
I record music and other stuff at our local church using a mixer and feed stereo straight into a pc which records using the excellent Adobe Audition (... well it works for me  :-)
To start with I expect I'll be using GarageBand and later look at other solutions such as ProTools I used to use on the PC.
    QUESTION
I would welcome experienced users to comment on how well GrageBand or similar can multi task while recording is taking place. In other words what can I do - Not do, while recording.
    Be honest please.
I worry I might get an exagerated reply from an Apple evangelist and I'm not seeking perfection, just knowledge of practical experiences.
I'd like an idea of what limits present users have found running recording apps like Garageband or similar.
As an example :  what experiences running large wordprocessing application or Internet (e.g. FTP or Safari) while recording?
    Replies appreciated
    Pete

If it's an important recording or a once-only opportunity to record something then I would seriously advise against multi-tasking on any computer, PC or Mac, whilst recording.  Dedicate all processing power to capturing the recording, and if you want to browse the web/update your resumé whilst recording then use another computer!

  • Help - can't access one website from my Macs, but I can on my PCs

A couple of days ago, I stopped being able to access at least one specific website on my Mac.
It’s my own domain so I haven’t been banned or blocked.
Everyone else can access the site, so it’s not down.
I can access the site from the PCs in my house, so it’s not an ISP issue.
I cannot access it from FTP, Firefox, Safari, or anything else on my Mac, so it’s not a browser issue.
I can access every other site I’ve tried, so it’s not an internet issue.
I’ve repaired permissions. I’ve rebooted several times.
    What gives? Any ideas?
I just tried it on my brother’s computers on the SAME network. His PC could access it but not his Mac. So it appears isolated to Macs on this network.
    I'm baffled.

Have tried everything: - all the suggestions on this page, and from this thread too: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=755113&tstart=135
    Using Asante FriendlyNet ethernet hub
Neither a G4 desktop or an iBook can connect to these sites:
    <mainstayfunds>
    http://206.210.18.59/
    http://206.210.28.59/
    <newyorklife>
    http://206.210.18.33/
    http://206.210.28.33/
My ISP provided the DNS information to try (oh, yeah, the ISP can access all the sites)
    These actions were unsuccesful:
    Three browsers
Bypassed hub and connected Mac to cable modem directly
Disconnected power from cable modem 2 minutes
    Norton Firewall disabled
    Used different hub port
    Restarted
    Signed out
    Deleted Safari plists
    Emptied Safari cache.
    Deleted Safari cache folder
    Dragged InputManagers from their folders
    Repaired permissions
    No Network Proxies enabled

  • Self-Hosted Web Fonts

I have problem with self hosted fonts I have added to MUSE.
It works normally in Muse while working, also in preview after export to html but doesn't work online after upload ( I have tried it on different servers).
I tried same web font on easy webpage not using muse and it works properly. What can I do?
    Preview after export to HTML:
After upload to FTP in Safari / Google Chrome is the same
Fonts are in the fonts folder after export and also in css. I can see it as self-hosted web fonts, Matching System Font is also OK.
The example of not working page:
    menuEN - all green headlines.
I am working on Macbook Pro with OS X Yosemite, browsers Safari and Google Chrome both. Font is Etelka - if it is important.
Thank you very much for your help,
    Elena

    Hi Abhishek,
the site is directly uploaded using MUSE Upload to ftp host. When I open it with ftp client, there is off file of etelkawidemedium in fonts file.
And I have tried to upload plain webpage with the same web font -  not made in Muse and it works.

    So what should I do?
The answer from Shaun is little bit complicated for me:)
    Thanks, Elena

  • How to stop applications crashing?

I installed Snow Leopard the day it came out, and have had several problems since, which I would like some help in eliminating. First - Word 2008 started crashing on close, not a big deal as its not the most reliable of apps at the best of times. Then Mail crashed several times, mainly while trying to contact servers. This morning Safari closed down unexpectedly. Short of downgrading back to 10.5, is there something I can do to stop apps crashing??? I am a huge Apple fan, but feel disappointed with what some are begging to call "Snow Vista". Do I reinstall, or downgrade to 10.5? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi all,
The guy in the shop basically recommended a FULL re-install - that means: (1) boot from the DVD holding the "C" key during startup, (2) reformat the HD using DiskUtility from the Utilities menu, (3) install Snow Leopard (4) recover files from Time Machine back-up. This will mean setting aside between 2-5 hours, which is what I am doing this coming weekend.
A lot of people didn't realise that you can do a fresh install with the Snow Leopard disc - most of us assumed it must be installed on top of Leopard, which then mixes a lot of old and new system files - always a sure recipe for disaster! I will post as soon as I am satisfied that this solves the problem. In the mean time - anyone with a brand new Mac should boot from the DVD and do a fresh re-format & install, that's what the guy at my local store advised me to do...
P.S. my main problems have been with Word crashing on close, iWeb crashing while trying to connect to FTP server, Safari crashing a few of times, and iPhoto too.

  • Safari doesn't open ftp site

Every time I try to access a ftp site through safari it opens firefox. It used to open the ftp site but now it doesn't work. Any suggestions? I'm using version 2.0.4
    Thanks

Avast is the problem. This is a list of links for threads regarding Avast and the issues it can cause on your Mac  > Community Search: Apple Support Communities
Follow the instructions for uninstalling Avast >  How to remove Avast Antivirus from a Mac
If you really want to have anti virus software installed on your Mac, try Free Antivirus for Mac Tool Download | Sophos
Do not install Sophos before completely removing Avast.

  • Safari and FTP

    Safari 6.0.2
    OS X 10.8.2
    I typed:
    ftp://[email protected]:[email protected]//[email protected]:[email protected]
onto Safari, and hit enter. Safari can't open page.
Using Chrome and Firefox, i was able to access the ftp contents on their browser windows.
    I then tried:
    ftp://xx%40domainname.com:[email protected]@domainname.com
on Safari. This time a window opens up with the option of connecting as Guest or Registered User. I've tried both, but neither worked.
    Kindly help/advise.
    Thank you.

safari doesn't browse ftp, it hands it off to Finder or whatever app is the default.
direct links to files rather than directories should open or download in Safari (do here on 5.1.7)
    eg:
    ftp://anonymous:[email protected]/ftp-instruct.txt
    should open in Safari, whereas
    ftp://anonymous:[email protected]/
    opens a Finder window

The URI doesn't seem righ to me. It should be of the form
    <ftp://user:password@host:port/path>
    (see <http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/ftpurl.html>)
Does anyone know if there are settings in Safari
The settings are not in Safari.
The default FTP client is set in com.apple.LaunchServices.plist. This command in Terminal
    $ defaults read com.apple.LaunchServices | grep -A 2 ftp
should give you a reading of the current settings. It sounds as if you set Firefox to be the default FTP client; if so, there should be a preference for it in Firefox. If not, you should be able to change it in the preferences of the app you decide to use as FTP client, or using the prefpane RCDefaultApp (make sure to read the docs first before installing it).
is there a better way to handle ftp on the mac?
Finder is the default FTP client. Do ⌘K, or Go > Connect to Server…, put the correct URI in "Server Address", and you're good to go. However, it's download only.
For full FTP (we'll ignore CLI tools), I've been using for many years Fetch by Fetch Softworks (commercial, but free for educational or charitable purposes). Alternatives are Interarchy (commercial), Transmit by Panic (commercial), CyberDuck (free), FileZilla (free), Fugu (free, but SFTP only), and others.

  • Ftp access works with Safari but not with Netscape or Explorer

The problem I am trying to solve is that my ftp service works correctly with Safari but gives an error message when the ftp service is access via Netscape or Explorer. Error message is "530 Guest login disabled". These two web browsers will not display a login screen for access by real users; Safari provides the login screen. The server is restricted to real users only

Check the proxy settings of the programs that are not working.
Check your firewall settings as well but I do not think that is it.

  • Playing mp3's from FTP server in Safari

    Hey guys,
I've recently bought a new iphone and I have managed to connect to my popcorn hour c-200 in safari (by going to 'ftp://nmt:[email protected]')
It successfully loads the share list and I can move around all my files, it can display pictures, but safari seems to crash when I try play a mp3 or movie file.
Am I doing something wrong or is it just not up for it?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Ross

    Hi Dhanalakshmi,
Does classes and functions in MMAPI allow you to make connection using http?
I think you should you use Connection Framework to get file first on device and then can play it.
    Try with this
    // Create a HttpConnection
    String url = "http://www.mysite.com/mysong.mp3"
    HttpConnection conn = (HttpConnection)Connector.open(url)
// with connection open a byte array input stream
ByteArrayInputStream  song = new ByteArrayInputStream (conn.openInputStream());I think ByteArrayInputStream can be used to get the stream of bytes from server.
    then use
player = Manager.createPlayer(song);check and let me know...
    Cheers,
    Rohan Chandane
