  • Ftp over http authentication

    Hi,
we have problem opening FTP sites that require authentication.
When I try to open a ftp site, example ftp://site.com, I get this message in the browser :
Authentication is required by the FTP server ( ftpserver.com ). A valid user ID and password must be entered when prompted.
In some cases, the FTP server may limit the number of anonymous connections. If you usually connect to this server as an anonymous user, please try again later.
But I didn't receive authentication prompt at all
I think we didn't have issues with the previous versions...

Are you using IE by chance?  If yes, try accessing the FTP server using a different browser.  IE has a known issue that such that it doesn't prompt end users to enter FTP server credentials when the user goes through any proxy (not just the WSA).  We just decided to add this to the WSA release notes as a "known issue" with the different workarounds listed. You'll see it in the next version of the 7.5 release notes when that comes out someday.  Here's what the bug write-up will say:
    Defect ID 5463
Users cannot access FTP servers that require server authentication using FTP over HTTP with Internet Explorer. This is a known issue with Internet Explorer when communicating with web proxies. This is due to Internet Explorer never prompting users to enter the server authentication credentials.
Workaround: To access FTP servers that require server authentication, use one of the following workarounds:
Use a different browser, such as FireFox or Chrome, to access the FTP server.
Use an FTP client that uses native FTP to access the FTP server.
If users must use Internet Explorer, they can prepend the username and password into the URL. For example: ftp://USERNAME:[email protected]@ftp.example.com

  • WCCP on ASA for FTP over HTTP

    Hello,
We have a WSA appliance that we have in explicit mode and want to configure as transparent. The protocols we cache and analyze with WSA are HTTP, HTTPS, native FTP and FTP over HTTP.
Is there a service number on WCCP for FTP over HTTP protocol? Or it is included within HTTP?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Best regards,
    Igor

    Igor,
The service number 60 (ftp-native service) only applies  to transparent redirection of FTP native requests and does not apply to  FTP-over-HTTP requests.
On the other hand; the Content Engine listens for redirected HTTP  requests on the standard HTTP port (default port 80). To enable the  Content Engine to listen for WCCP-intercepted HTTP traffic on ports  other than the default port, configure the custom-web-cache service (98 and 99) or a  user-defined WCCP service (services 90 to 97).
    I hope this helps.

  • Mail over HTTP Proxy

    Hi,
I have a peculiar problem, while trying to access Gmail over office wifi (this has a HTTP proxy) my i-phone 3G keeps checking for mail, but doesn't update anything. If I disable wifi and access the same over edge it works.
I checked the proxy configuration by launching other apps and safari. All of these work fine.
Is this a known issue? Any help on this please?

I've got some similar issue here with proxy authentication over wifi, but none of the apps (except Safari and AppStore) works. Check these threads, please:

  • Cvs over HTTP proxy?

    Hi All,
I am using openembedded tools on a project, but it uses cvs to download some files.
Our company has a tight http only proxy, but I have managed to tunnel wget and git over it, but not cvs.
Is there a good way to do this? It needs to be transparent to openembedded which has cvs access in lot's of scripts which I don't want to touch.
I notice a cvs-feature program in AUR that states that is has proxy support, but I can't find any documentation, does anyone know if it will allow what I want?
    Cheers,
    Bernie

    Inxsible wrote:
Not a solution for you per se, but would you be able to share how you managed to tunnel wget, redacting your proxy server and port of course?
I am in a similar situation and would like to access my home computer through my work machine.
No problem. wget was easy as it takes notice of the environment variable http_proxy, ftp_proxy, https_proxy etc, so if they are set to your proxy and port like this:
export http_proxy=http://your_proxy:3128/  ..... place this in your ~/.profile or ~/.bashrc file, or without the "export" in the file ~/.wgetrc
.. then re-source your shell with "source ~/.profile"
    Hope this helps.
NB: You should include "all caps" versions of those variables too, as some programs use the caps versions ..

  • Connection with FTPs over Web Proxy

    Hi Experts,
We have a requirement for one of our clients wherein we have to connect to a third party using secure data transfer.
Currently, the third party supports only FTPs (neither SFTP or VPN is possible). The issue is we need to connect to client's proxy server first which in turn will connect us to third party's server authenticating for the given userid and password.
FTPs does not provide us the provision to connect to a server over a web proxy.
Moreover, FTPs supports a dynamic range of ports so we need to tell the proxy explicitly on which port it has to connect with Bank.
Basis people were trying to use curl command line option to pick up the file and send it to third party. Is there any way, we can run this script in PI.(Note that we are not able to connect to server)
Please let me know if anyone has implemented it in their project or worked on such kind of requirement.
    Thanks in advance.

Based on my knowledge, there is no need to reboot the Exchange server 2007 when you install the Windows RPC over HTTP Proxy component.

  • Ftp prioritised over http etc

We are a small office network of 3 macs. We are having problems lately - when we try and ftp we are unable to use email or the internet at all. The ftp seems to hog the entire bandwidth. We have found that switching from transmit to cyberduck has been a temporarily solution as it allows us to choke the upload bandwidth to 200 Kbps and we can get internet etc. This has not, however, been an issue in the past - we have been able to use transmit & email, web etc simultaneously. I have checked on the router preference pages and there is nothing that says a certain protocol is given priority. We recently had someone attach a Netgear 10/100/1000 m switch to our router (Netgear DGN 2000) so are wondering whether this has anything to do with anything. Macs plugged directly into the DGN 2000 however also have this issue. If anyone can offer advice that would be really helpful! Would this be a router, ftp software or OS issue?
    Thanks very much!

Try connecting through a regular FTP client and see
if that works. If not, it is most likely your network
settings. Are you connecting to the correct
portnumber? Are you blocked by a firewall by any
    chance?Thanks for the reply !
I'am able to connect to the FTP Server using CuteFTP, which enables us to select Proxy Type, to be either HTTP Proxy or FTP Proxy.
When i select HTTP Proxy in CuteFTP it seems to work fine, but when i select FTP Proxy ,i get the same Connection timeout exception, which is what i get when using (Jakarta FTPCommons ) FTP Client, which is inturn uses Socket to open a connection.
I'am unable to know what difference dose Proxy type has when a Connection is made ?

  • Ftp and http access over XDB repository is not allowed...

When I try to execute the following command on a reasonably fresh Oracle 11 installation:
    insert into "XMLTEST" ( "name", "xmlfof" ) values ( 'small', DBMS_XDB.GETCONTENTXMLTYPE('/public/small.xml') );
-- The schema is correctly registered, the file "small.xml" is in the /public repository folder, the user has every conceivable role and priviledge
-- http access works fine from a remote location, tried to execute the command on the server and from remote system...
I get the following error message:
ORA-31020: Der Vorgang ist nicht zulässig, Ursache: For security reasons, ftp and http access over XDB repository is not allowed on server side ORA-06512: in "XDB.DBMS_XDB", Zeile 1915
Searching for an answer on the forum didn't produce any concreate explanation... Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?

As it turns out, the XML file contained a reference to a DTD at an external web-site, which caused the problem - it was identical to that described here:
Re: ORA-31020 when using XML with external DTD or entities
After removing the reference, everything works perfectly...

  • Retreiving files over http or ftp.

I was wondering what program I should use to retreive files over http or ftp. Previously I had used wget per my hosting provider's recommendation. It worked when I was ssh logged in to his server (via Mac Terminal). However, when I try using wget on my local Mac it says "command not found".

Thanks. So if I specify a file name (-o /path/to/file), does the incoming file get renamed to that (and put in that location) or does this specify the directory (-o /path/to/directory) that the incoming file will go to? I wasn't quite clear on that.
Also, I keep hearing about stdout. What is it exactly? I assumed it was just the Terminal window itself, the alternative being things like | more or | nano or something like that... Or am I totally up the wrong tree?

  • Sending files via File Adapter through FTP having a HTTP proxy as firewall

    Dear  experts,
I am having a issue trying to send a file via FTP with the File Adapter. My client has a HTTP proxy with authentification required as firewall  in order to send files via FTP.
I've tried several solutions but I cannot find a way to add the proxy name, user and password in the communication channel.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards

    Hi,
Unfortunately those changes didn't work. The adapter is not able to establish a connection within the FTP server. These are the parameters I added:
    -Dhttp.proxy.user=<usename>
    -Dhttp.proxy.password=<userpassword>
    -Dhttp.proxyHost=<proxy.domain...>
    -Dhttp.proxyPort=80
    -Dhttp.nonProxyHost="*domain1.com domain2com"
    -Dhttps.proxy.user=<usename>
    -Dhttps.proxy.password=<userpassword>
    -Dhttps.proxyHost=<proxy.domain...>
    -Dhttps.proxyPort=80
    -Dhttps.nonProxyHost="*domain1.com domain2com"
And just in case, we tried with these other parameters at the same time.
    -Dftp.proxy.user=<usename>
    -Dftp.proxy.password=<userpassword>
    -Dftp.proxyHost=<proxy.domain...>
    -Ddftp.proxyPort=80
    -Dftp.nonProxyHost="*domain1.com domain2com"
The errors in the adapter engine's log are:
Error MP: Exception caught with cause com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException: Error when getting an FTP connection from connection pool: com.sap.aii.af.service.util.concurrent.ResourcePoolException: Unable to create new pooled resource: ConnectException: Socket connection timed out: <ftp ip address>
