Ftp rpm for Oracle VM 2.2
Hi
Someone knows how do I install ftp on Oracle VM server 2.2?
Thanks,
Rudi
Edited by: Rudi on Nov 2, 2011 5:23 AM
Hi Avi
Thanks for the reply.
I need to transfer Virtual Machines and Oracle VM Templates from my old Oracle VM 2.2 to Oracle VM 3.0.
As I see the only option I have is to import the Oracle VM templates using http/https and ftp.
I am not aware of a sftp option.
How can I proceed?
Thanks,
Rudi

FTP adapter for Oracle Service Bus - retrieve file by dynamic file name.
Hi
I am newbie in OSB. I try to use FTP transport in Workshop, it must fill in "Prefix" and "Suffix" for destination file name.
But for us, the file name is sent by external systems.
The workflow is:
1. External system call our proxy services.
2. Proxy service get file name from SOAP message.
3. Proxy Service get the file from FTP server.
4. The file send to Business services.
Any suggestions to implement about workflows?Let me first put here what I understand about the flow:
External Sytem -->(filename)--> OSB HTTP PS --> (1) --> OSB FTP BS --> Read file based on filename
|--> (2) --> send file ontent to another system or return to the original system
If that is the flow, then I beileve ther is no straight forward way to implement it in OSB.
OSB FTP BS will only write a file to FTP Location.
If you create a JCA FTP Adapter for reading the file, then you can use it only to create a Proxy Service, and that proxy will not pick up the file when called from another service but only when a file is put on the source FTP location.
So, to implement the solution you will need to use Java Callout to a class which has code written to accept the file name as input, read the file from an FTP location and return the file content.
This is my understanding of how it is, may be there is another way to implement this or in fact may be the latest version of OSB 11.1.1.4 or 11.1.1.5 JCA adapter does support read operation within a flow instead of just at the start of the flow. -

please anyone helpme out thatFor Red hat, you need to have a paid license for Redhat network. "Other than that, the option would be search over web like www.rpmfind.net. I would recommend you that you start using Enterprise Linux which has a Public YUM available for free which can be used to find the rpms needed without looking in the media all the time.

Unfortunately, direct FTP of Oracle patches ended when Metalink was replaced with My Oracle Support last autumn. The only available options for getting patches are:
1) Via My Oracle Support, with your web browser
2) Using a command-line utility such as wget, as described in the link Srini provided
Srini, thanks for posting the link! :-)

Removing an RPM for Oracle Install
Hi,
I need to know how to remove a specific RPM. I am running Oracle on RHEL 4.
When the Oracle install does the checks it fails on one of the RPM's. Here is what I did:
[root@vtl-oracle logs]# rpm -qa --queryformat "%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE} (%{ARCH})\n" | grep elfutils-libelf
elfutils-libelf-0.97.1-4 (x86_64)
elfutils-libelf-0.97.1-4 (i386) - - I need to remove this one because I am running a 64bit and Oracle Install keeps picking it up.
elfutils-libelf-devel-0.97.1-4 (x86_64)
when I issue the following command I get the statement:
[root@vtl-oracle logs]# rpm -e elfutils-libelf-0.97.1-4.i386
error: Failed dependencies:
libelf.so.1 is needed by (installed) elfutils-0.97.1-4.i386
libelf.so.1(ELFUTILS_1.0) is needed by (installed) elfutils-0.97.1-4.i386
libelf.so.1(ELFUTILS_1.1) is needed by (installed) elfutils-0.97.1-4.i386
I only want the 64 bit ones, not the i386 ones.If you truly mean swap (and not /tmp), you have to be root to create a new swap partition (or swapfile) and then add it in with swapon -a
Are you sure that you REALLY want to get rid of the elf package? I did an Oracle 10g install on RHEL4 about a month ago, and there were 32-bit libraries that it had to have alongside the 64-bit ones.
You could force the removal, but I don't recommend it, using nodeps or force (I think it's this, haven't tried it in a while). -
Rpm for telnet utility on oracle linux 5.7
Hi,
I new to oracle linux , and i have two questions:
1) I have an oracle linux installed on one of our servers. I think its version 5.7 but i am not 100% sure.
I run cat/etc/issue but it doest report the oracle linux version. How can i found out which version installed on this server ?
2) I need to install rpm for telnet. From where i can download only the required telnet rpm for verion 5.7 ?
Thanks1) The following should help:
http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/027626.pdf
2) Telnet has been replaced by SSH, similar to FTP, for serious security reasons.
The Telnet client is normally installed by default. To install the client and server, the following should work:
<pre>
yum install telnet telnet-server
</pre>

Oracle instantclient rpms for CentOS-5.4 (64bit)
Hi,
Could somebody point me to oracle-instantclient rpms (11.2.0.2.0) for CentOS-5.4 (64bit)? I downloaded the instant client rpms from " [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/linuxx86-64soft-092277.html|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/linuxx86-64soft-092277.html] ". and C++ client crashes while connecting to Oracle db. Wondering if I need to build the rpms (from the source package) for Cent OS 5.4? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

How can I use the FTP server on Oracle XML DB for plain text files?
Hi,
I need to generate comma separated files for download via FTP. The files are generated from Oracle Table data and should be published on a FTP Server. Would it be able to use the FTP Server on Oracle XML DB?
If not, any suggestions?
Thanks
Frederik ChristensenYou can create a temporary CLOB with your CSV content, and then folder the CLOB into the XDB repository with DBMS_XDB.createRESOURCE()...
This would work fine.... -
Package 'bind' for Oracle VM 2.2.2
Hi All,
Am very new to using the virtualization provided by Oracle.
I have installed Oracle VM Server 2.2.2. My guest creation using a template fails with the error message below. The deploy.sh script has a series of steps that tar and then create the virtual guest.
[root@OEL seed_pool]# ./deploy.sh
chown: `named:named': invalid user
error reading information on service named: No such file or directory
error reading information on service named: No such file or directory
error reading information on service named: No such file or directory
I was asked to install BIND package for VM Server 2.2.2. I tried installing the bind package from OEL5 Update 3 [bind-9.3.4-10.P1.el5.x86_64.rpm]. However it failed with a lot of dependencies errors when i run it in VM Server 2.2.2 (rpm -ivh bind-9.3.4-10.P1.el5.x86_64.rpm)
In VM Server 2.2.2, rpm -qa bind* gives the below output:
bind-libs-9.3.4-10.P1.el5_3.3
bind-utils-9.3.4-10.P1.el5_3.3
From where can i get the correct 'bind' package for VM Server 2.2.2?

You should be creating guests using Oracle VM Manager, which would not require any non-Oracle VM packages. There is no bind package for Oracle VM, as you would never run a DNS server in Dom0. -
Oracle 10g AS pacth for Oracle Apps 11i
Hi everyone,
I have installed Oracle 10g AS (10.1.2.0.2) for Oracle Business Intelligence on Sun Solaris 10 (64 bit) and integrated it with Oracle Apps 11i (11.5.10.2).
Everything seems fine but i am facing problems like
1) Toolbars not appearing correctly sometimes like it is disabled and enables by itself.
2)sometimes clients come accross "Connection with Server lost..." error while taking export (very few).
3) Its giving the error (mentioned at the end) only on one client machine while taking export to Excel.
I have tried installing Oracle 10g AS patch set 2 10.1.2.2 for Solaris but the problem persisits. Is patch set 2 compatible or certified with Oracle Apps 11i? if not then is there any other work around or do i have to wait for some new patch.
Thanx for your inputs.

The last I heard is that 10.1.2.2 is not yet certified for use against E-Business Suite unless your operating system is Linux. Please take a look at this posting on Steven Chan's blog: http://blogs.oracle.com/schan/2007/04/23
The issues you are encountering, particularly the one with the toolbars disappearing, were fixed in patch 5345528 as described on my blog here: http://learndiscoverer.blogspot.com/2006/08/more-to-toolbar-icons-graying-out.html
I would advise you to go for this patch first until Oracle certify 10.1.2.2. for Sun.
Best wishes

FTP adapter for OESB in Linux and OESB hosting in Linux
Hello,
is there anyone can explain how to set the correct path for the ftp directory and the local physical directory during setting up the wizard?
FTP server directory will be: \folderA << physical location is in \var\ftp\folderA
Local Archive Directory will be :\var\ftp\folderArchieve
How do I going to configure this in my config xml as well?
Edited by: kpchong on Jan 22, 2010 2:46 AMWell, Metalink can't find any pages that match that error number, or the error text.
Nor can Google - the only pages that come back are this page and your post on orafaq with the same message.
Have you posted the error message correctly? If you run the procedure from SQL*Plus as if the workflow engine were running it, what happens?

Hardening Linux for Oracle 10g
I have been working on creating a bare-bones RHEL 5 installation which will act as an Oracle 10g database server. For hardening Linux, I have restricted to a bare minimum of packages to make it more secure. This installation did not have X-Windows, Gnome/KDE and a host of other services that will not be required on Production servers. I selected only the BASE installation which was further customized to include just the following (there is scope to trim this further, so feedback is welcome):
NetworkManager
readahead
smartmontools
yum-updatesd
irqbalance
acpid
crash
cryptsetup-luks
dos2unix
dump
finger
gnugpg
ksh
libaio
logwatch
m2crypto
man-pages
mdadm
nano
numactl
openssh-clients
openssh-servers
pam_ccreds
pam_krb5
pam_passwdqc
sendmail
setuptools
stunnel
sudo
symlinks
system-config-network
tree
unix2dos
unzip
vconfig
wget
which
yum
yum-rhn-plugin
yum-security
zip
Since I do not intend to use nfs, nis, samba – associated packages were not included. Further hardening was achieved by deleting non-required services (kudzu, avahi, gpm, atd, netfs, ip6tables).
The challenge comes when I begin setting up Oracle 10g using the oracle validated rpm method. In an attempt to resolve dependencies, YUM ends up installing 70 packages that do not apparently seem to have anything to do with an RDBMS (sound libraries, Gnome, X libraries and tools etc.). For me the libraries/binaries required for linking appear to be justified but the rest appear to be installed only for the Installer.
This package addition also ends up installing gamin which provides the gam_server which has bugs in it that lead to > 90% CPU consumption.
I further tried erasing some of the packages to see if anything broke. Till now nothing is broken and the database is running fine. Till now I have removed:
gamin
gamin-python
gnome-mount
gnome-vfs2
libbonoboui
libgnome
libgnomeui
oracle-validated
yum-updatesd
esound
hicolor-icon-theme
GConf2
gnome-keyring
gtk2
libglade2
libgnomecanvas
libnotify
libwnck
notification-daemon
audiofile
cups-libs
gnome-mime-data
cairo
pango
My questions:
• How have you created a production/hardened Linux based Oracle installation?
• Can you share your experiences in hardening Linux for Oracle and deploying the Oracle 10g RDBMS without installing the scores of packages which themselves might compromise the server?
• What exactly is the dependency for the Oracle 10g RDBMS on X11, Gnome, Gamin and graphic libraries such as Cairo and Pango (to name a few)?
• Which Linux system services are really mandatory for Oracle?
• Does a non-default secure installation compromise Oracle support?
The current memory footprint for this setup (without any workload) is (figures in MB):
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 1010 458 552 0 19 377
-/+ buffers/cache: 61 949
Swap: 2047 0 2047
…of this 290 MB belongs to Oracle ☺
I will be working with the other route – without using the oracle-validated rpm.
Please let me have your feedback.

AniruddhaHi,
I'll paste the rpm -qa of a RHEL5 server I have installed through rpm -ivh (not yum at all)
