FTP setup and IP addresses

Hi, I am not real sure on this topic. I have done a search for related topics and only came away more confused. If I set up a mac as a FTP site with its FTP sharing on (or remote login, seeing as how people seem to think this is more secure) and I am behind a firewall, how do I get to that machine?
People have said things like "forward port 21 or 22 to that mac, and people can just go to its IP address" but would they need both the outside IP and the inside IP? Lets say that my outside IP is 1.2.3.4.5.6 and my local IP for that mac is 0.0.0.3.2.1 what would someone put in their browser address bar supposing that the proper port is forwarded?
would this change if I had the remote login on instead of FTP? If so what would that address bar have to read?
Thanks everybody.

The whole point of port forwarding is that no remote user needs to know anything about the 'internal' IP address of your server (in your example, the 0.0.0.3 addresss).
When your router is handling your real-world IP address and using NAT to share it amongst other systems, and a remote user opens a connection to that IP address, the router looks at its configuration to see whether it should forward that connection to an internal machine. If it does, it transparently forwards the connection to whatever machine you've specified. When the server at that address replies, the router automatically translates the traffic so that it appears to come from the public IP address handled by the router rather than the private internal address.
That way remote users only need to know the public IP address and you can control in the router which machine in your network the connection is forwarded to.
The whole port-forwarding thing is completely independent of protocol - it doesn't matter whether you're using FTP, SSH/SFTP, HTTP, SMTP, or any other - they all work the same way, letting you forward connections from the public IP address to an internal server on the private network.
The only issue you need to think about is which ports to forward. FTP is a little trickier than others because it uses multiple ports (which is another advantage of SFTP). Since SFTP runs over SSH you just need to forward port 22 to your server and replace 'ftp://' with 'sftp://' in the URL.

  • FTP Setup and Endpoint Configuration

    Hi Everyone,
We are testing an FTP site on Windows Server 2008 R2 in Azure. I manage to configure the FTP and all working if I test it locally using its Local IP Address. However, I'm having trouble accessing it outside the network using VIP address. I already allowed
FTP port 21 and port 1035-1040 as I recommend on another blog. I have also configured FTP firewall support in IIS using VIP address. But I can't still access it outside its network. Also, I disabled the windows firewall just to isolate the case.
Do you have any recommendation or literature for this.
    Thanks

If you want to use FTP in Azure VM you need to open ports on VM firewall and on service endpoint.
By default, service endpoint has only port 80 enebled, so you need to add port 21 if you want to use firewall.

On the initial set up for apple tv it just sits there trying to set the date and time . it is a wireless setup and the ipaddress and router address is correct . I can't get by this screen. The setting is on automatic and I have picked a city in my time zone yet it still tries to set a time and date but fails.
    thanks

Make sure router is up to date. Try ethernet to rule out any wifi issues. Reboot ATV and router.

  • Migrate WSUS server from 2003x86 to 2008x64, new hardware, use same name and IP address?

Searching through the WSUS forums and reading the TechNET migration documentation, I have bits and pieces of information to make this a smooth transition...I think. I have a plan in mind but
would like the communities input on what I am thinking before moving forward and having it blowup in my face :). <o:p></o:p>
    I have the following currently:<o:p></o:p>
A single WSUS 3.0 SP2 server, running on Server Win2003x86, using the default WID (susdb.mdf) on the same server. I have SQL 2005 Express installed on this server as well for other services
but this has no bearing on the WID correct?<o:p></o:p>
What I would like to do:<o:p></o:p>
I have a new server (a much better one) that I would like to move WSUS on to, that will be running Server Win2008x64 (I have to setup first). <o:p></o:p>
Steps that I would like to follow:<o:p></o:p>
    1. I will go through and setup this new server with all M$ updates etc... under a new name (ex. wsusnew) and DHCP acquired IP address and then power it down. <o:p></o:p>
    2. Get on my current WSUS server and backup all current WSUS settings, groups, DB etc... to a network location for temporary storage. Then power it down.<o:p></o:p>
    3. Delete the current WSUS server computer object in AD, DNS entry I will leave because my intension is to give the same IP address to the new WSUS server.<o:p></o:p>
    4. Start the new server, static assign the IP address from the old WSUS server to this new server and then change the name of (wsusnew) to the old servers name, which should be ok sense I deleted
the AD object in step 3.<o:p></o:p>
    5. After the obvious restart, the new server will have the same name and IP address as the old server. <o:p></o:p>
    6. Now that the new server is up (with same settings name/IP as old server), I will then go through and install the WSUS role on the server and restore my WSUS information.<o:p></o:p>
    Questions:<o:p></o:p>
    1. Step 2 above, is it possible to do this, without making replica servers? I kept reading about this as I was researching doing this, I would rather just copy the DB and folders and simply
put them in-place on the new server.<o:p></o:p>
    2. Step 6 above, restoring of the data, what is the proper way to do this in the scenarioI described? <o:p></o:p>
Thank you to anyone who can provide me some information.
    Jeff

Thank you for the reply, I will follow and let you know. Proabably be next week sometime before I'm able to try though. So look for a reponse then. Thank you again.
    Jeff
    OR...
You can use the much more simple, much more reliable, and much more proven method of:
Install new server as a replica of the old.
    Replicate.
Configure new server as upstream server.
    Point clients to new server.
Turn off old server after all clients have redirected to the new server.
For everybody that has tried the backup/restore the database procedure described above, they have encounted complications of one form or another.
WSUS has a built-in and fully supported comprehensive replication capbility. use it! :-)

  • How do I use a specific host directory in the ftp setup?

I am reestablishing links in CS4 to my websites after an upgrade from Vista to 7.
I use Go Daddy and the subdirectory capability. I had a difficult time setting up the ftp connection and saw in another posting that the Host directory should be left blank. This indeed worked. The problem is that I want to control access of different designers to different websites that are contained in one hosting account. When I use the correct Host directory in the Site Definition dialogue box as I did with my setup on Vista, I get the error message:
"An FTP error occurred - cannot open remote folder [FileName]/. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem."
However, the file does exist. I have tried various uses of forward slashes, in front, in back, and both, without success. I'm sure there is an answer.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Can you verify that your user account has access to those other accounts?  Is this a reseller account where you have accounts under your own or is this a dedicated box or VPS where the accounts can be in different directories?  Is this a Windows or Linux box
There's a few things that could be going on, but if it ends up being a permission issue Godaddy will be the only ones who can help with that.  But just an example of a path on a Unix/Linux environment, "public_html/".  There is no leading slash but there is a trailing slash in the path.  If you are connecting to a Windows server it could be slightly different, but my only experience with Windows is in a networked/VPN environment so if that is your case I am sure someone else here can help you out.

  • SSL Certificate setup for Web/Address Book/iCal in 10.7 Lion?

I know nothing about certificates. I plan to use my Mini server to help manage my family's computers which are pretty spread out across the U.S. My plan is to use profile manager for device management, host a couple websites (one secure for home security cams) and share address books and calendars. This is as much a geek gadget project as it is "useful" so I understand I may be creating some work for myself
Anyway, can someone walk me through the correct setup for certificates? My research is showing me a LOT of options/parameters. Due to the expense, i don't want to create one just to find it won't serve my purposes.
Also, I think i'm going with RapidSSL...$50 is the cheapest I've come across...hopefully the offer what I need?

I have just spent 30 minutes on the phone to a pleseant chap in Athens, and now have a solution.
We tried several options and the final one worked - so simple.
Click on the apple symbol > system preferences > iCloud > disable contact sync > keep contacts
Check search, in my case it worked for the first time in several weeks :-)
then re-enable contact sync as follows:
Click on the apple symbol > system preferences > iCloud > re-tick contacts > merge contacts
    Search still works
    Hallelujah!

  • ABP applied in OWA not in Outlook. Users see Default GAL and all address lists, regardless of address book policies.

During a company merger a standard exchange org was converted to a multi-tenant setup. Problem: Address Book Policies not applied in Outlook, users see all address lists and default GAL. However, in OWA its all as expected, users see only what is allowed
    by the ABP.
We followed the steps outlined in the MUlti-Tenancy and Hosting Guidance for Exchange Server 2010 SP2
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28192
    It's EXCH 2010 SP3.
    Any idea would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Please check whether the Default GAL changed in Outlook Online mode. The issue maybe occur when an Offline Address Book which is used for Outlook cached mode is not updated.
    Please run the following command:
    Get-OfflineAddressBook | Update-OfflineAddressBook
In Outlook client, we can do the following steps in Outlook to download Offline Address Book to check whether the issue persists:
    1. Delete the *.oab files in the following folders in local machine:
         \Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Offline Address Books
    2. Create a new Outlook profile that uses Cached Exchange Mode.
    3. Start Outlook 2010 with this new profile.
    4. In the ribbon click Send / Receive, click
Send/Receive Groups and then click Download Address Book.
Then check whether the Address Book is updated or not.

  • Jax-ws 2.2.8 and ws-addressing: Client throwing java.lang.NullPointerException on receipt of HTTP 202 when using non-anonymous ReplyTo address

    Server: JBoss EAP 6.2.0
    Client: JDK 1.7.0_51 x64
    JAX-WS: RI 2.2.8 ( via -Djava.endorsed.dirs )
I am getting a java.lang.NullPointerException when calling the operation on the WS endpoint from the client when using non-anonymous replyTo address.
I have simplified the scenario into a small test case that hopefully others can replicate. Since the exception is happening on the client instead of the server, I would think that the container used is irrelevant, but I have specified it nonetheless.

    In summary:
Server is listening on port 8080
Client will listen in port 8082 for the callback from the server for the SOAP response
Now when I run the client, I see that the proper behaviour as far as ws-addressing is concerned. That is:
    client  -- SOAP request ( on port 8080 ) --> server
    client <-- HTTP 202 ( empty HTTP body )  --- server
    client <-- SOAP response ( on port 8082 )  --- server
All well and good, except that I am getting a NullPointerException on the client side when I call the operation.
With debugging of the SOAP request and responses, I get the following output:

    Any ideas ?

I think I have found when I get this error and probably I have found a bug. I will appreciate if someone can confirm this.
In my BPEL project setup, my BPEL process's wsdl file imports another wsdl from different namespace. Here is sample snippet -
    <wsdl:definitions targetNamespace="http://namespace/1">
    <wsdl:import namespace="http://namespace/2" location="resources/another.wsdl"/>
    <plnk:partnerLinkType....../>
    </wsdl:definitions>
Please let me know. I checked the bundled samples with Oracle BPEL PM and did not find any similar case where process wsdl imports another wsdl.
    Thank you.

  • Got new miniMac servers with 2x750GB drives. How to setup and confirm RAID mirror?

Literally just got shiny new miniMac Server with the dual 70GB internakky hard drives/disks with
OS X 10.7.$ LION pre-installed. What a nice machine in a super cool box!
Seemed to bootup and run fine!
Now my issue (there will be more for this MAC newbie):
    A. How to setup AND more importantly (item B below) CONFIRM that a RAID MIRROR is working?
Want nothing fancier than 2-nd drive is exact duplicate of 1-st drive at all times.
That is, an 'active and full up-to -the second" backup of the main 1-st drive.
I have done nothing to 1-st drive as it came from APPLE.
When I try to setup RAID set using DISK Utility, I get message about system(1-st drive) can't be used in a RAID or such.
yet I can add 2-nd drive to what I tink is a RAID set and then 'Enable' it.
It seems to add another entry to thr left-side of drves list panel but not sure that 1-st and 2-nd drives are BOTH in the new
"RAID SET' or that the set just consists of the "single" 2-nd disk?
    B. I don't think that 1-st drive data is actually being duplicated to 2-nd drive.
For instance, how do I know that it was 'caught up' to match 1-st drive AND then is
    staying caught up?
    C. A 'RAID UTILITY' Icon brings up a not-available message, but I think that is because I don't
have HARDWARE RAID controller, just software RAID, correct?
    D. What is 'Time Machine' and how does it play into this? I do assume that somehow/someway I need to
have off-machine backups also to be truly protected? How would a 2-nd identical miniMAC server be best
deployed to back each other up, in addition to their own internal RAID-ed disks that items above address?
My whole point of buying 2x750GB disks was to have mirror RAID set and
(foolishly) assumed that factory would set it up that way.
Please help me get setup right so when the inevitable crash happens,
I have some chance of recovering from it.

    A. What are you adding to the RAID: a partition or a hard drive? You can only add hard drives to a RAID. RAID Utility should confirm that your RAID is working
    B. No, I don't think so
    C. It's because you haven't got RAID hardware.
    D. Time Machine is a backup system in external drives. If you want, you can do backups in a external hard drive.

  • How to export an eloqua report to a (ftp) server and schedule this export

I would like to export an eloqua report to a (ftp) server and schedule this export. I want to pick this report up by another tool like Qlikview.
    Liesbeth

if it is something to do with having report admin rights is there a way to still export report data without these admin rights? is it possible to just export report data as activity data in the normal import/export section within the setup menu? is there a problem using filezilla client and oracle eloqua together for this?

and i find many people have met the same thing. But they are spartan  series FPGA and i try to low the Resistances of Mode pins,M0 M1 and M2, but the problem does not been solved.
I have read the status Registers and find there is an over-temperature state
and in Impact i could not readback the registers. It is strange.
I am anxious about this problem and have not solved it yet
    What reasons may it be?
Hope for your answer, thank you

Hi~I want to know if you solve the configuration problem for virtex-6?
As I encounter the  same configuration problem, I want to consult  you with some question.
    Can I have your email?

    I have measured the VCCINT and find it is 1.0V, not 2.997V;
That is not at all surprising.  I always assumed the problem is with reading the XADC (system monitor) block and not with the voltage or temperature.
    my Reference board is ML605
That would have been nice to know at the beginning...
It seems that you have selected the correct mode, assuming your jumpers are set as required in the ML605 Hardware User's Guide.  See table 1-27, table 1-33 and the note below it about switch S1.
I'm not that familiar with the details of this reference design, but it may be that the slave SelectMap circuitry requires a reset or power cycle to actually configure the FPGA.  Have you tried power-cycling to see if the FPGA boots from the flash?
I'd also suggest that you select the V6 in the JTAG chain view, then go to the debug menu of Impact and select Read Device Status (this is from memory, but it's something like that).  That will not only show the bits of the configuration status register, but also describe what each bit means.  Among other things you can check the state of the FPGA's configuration logic and the Mode pins.

I want anyone to be able to download from the ftp server but not upload to it and i dont want people to require a username or password to access the ftp site. I cant see any settings options on the ftp tab of the server app. Is there some command line or am i missing something obvious???
