Ftp setup - can't get kernel!

Actually, I ripped a friends PC to install arch on it. While I wanted to install the kernel-scsi-image, I fetch response of the system that it can't find the image.
Has anyone removed the kernel images, that are used by the arch iso cd????
I used ftp.archlinux.org as source. Afaik I can't switch sources while installation procedure.
It woulr be nice to get help pretty soon, as I am sitting here, having another cup of coffee, telling my friend it will work out in the end.

I found it in the arch news. Anyway. I felt more comfortable with leaving the kernel names as they have been used so far, and naming the new kernels kernel26 etc. No need to brake the system, don't you agree?
If the system has to be changed for strong reasons, then the basic installation sources should be changed, too, at the same time. Therefore, it would be nice to have a newer iso in short time.

  • Cisco 1812 wireles setup, can't get it to work

    Hello everyone,
I've read trough the "871 wireless setup" topic, which I found very helpful, but I still can't get my wireless working. Basically I have a Cisco 1812W and I would like both wireless and wired to be on the same subnet. We aren't using DHCP, so the IP's are all static (even for the wireless clients). I can connect to my wireless SSID, but ping doesn't go trough either way. Wired connections are working fine. So the wireless client is connected, but has no IP address as far as the router goes (show Dot11 associations shows it's IP as 0.0.0.0) , but the wireless client does have an IP set up.
I guess I'm overlooking something in my config, so here it is (i took out the firewall rules and aaa setup, they aren't relevant if i'm not mistaken and there's a limit to post size):

Okay, I've somewhat figured it out. Apparently my WPA-PSK configuration doesn't work with the integrated Broadcom adapter found in the laptop I was testing it with.
Either that or my WPA-PSK configuration is broken.
I switched over to an open network with no encrpytion and everything works now.

  • After a Mac Mini server is setup, can I get the out of box experience by ..

resetting a file or running a program that will go through the setup process again with out doing a reinstall? I don't want/need to preserve any current settings. I just want to run through the setup again.

I was just curious. When I set up the server when I first got it, I wasn't 100% sure what role/options/services to check off and now wonder if I made some incorrect choices. I'm just playing around now and I'm sure I will reinstall. I really bought the mini server (because of the hardware option for the hard drives and memory) to attach to a Metric Halo LIO-8 digital audio processor via firewire for my audio system. I really will not be fully exploiting the features of SL server. I will definitely learn the os as I go along for the fun of it.
Thanks for the help, I'm sure I'll have some question in the future.

  • I'm connected but can't get browser, email or even FTP ????

Special thanks for the article "Sun PPPoE on Solaris" by Phil Dibowitz and "Setting Up Solaris OS to Work with Cable Modems" by Muhammad Talha (I have DSL however). Without these 2 articles I wouldn't have gotten as far as I did.
First off I'm running on an AMD CPU with Realtek 8139 PCI plug in card.
Ok here is the problem. It looks like I have connected but I can't get the browser , email or even terminal FTP to work. I think I'm at the gateway but I can't get onto the internet.
Here is how my system looks right after I boot up .
    # ifconfig -a
    lo0: flags=2001000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,VIRTUAL> mtu 8232 index 1
    inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000

    inet 216.8.174.237 --> 216.8.136.29 netmask ffffff00
    ether 0
I'm connected right? But why 2 IP addresses (one for me and one for the gateway?)
Solaris gives me notice during BOOT that it can't configure rtls0: for DHCP but then connects somehow? later on in the auto connect script (script copied from Phils article)
Also Phil recommends running debug to generate the connect-errors file. Here it is ! You can see that I HAVE CONNECTED !

    >As I understood, you have modem that is connected to the Internet and computers obtain IP from it. Am I correct?
If yes, and your line is some kind of xDSL (for example ADSL or something like that), probably that your modem is router (that kind of lines, there is no real modem with dial up, it just logs on).
I'm only using a 3COM Home Connect HUB. At one time when we had up to 4 computers on it, we were automatically re-assigned up to 4 different IP addresses each time.
    >The problem with DHCP and such router is that your computer will have hostname "unknown", if you want other hostname, give it permanent IP and setup program will let you to specify IP address.
I will need to pay my service provider more for a "static IP address" What you are talking about is a "static IP" . Am I right?
    >*How to know what IP you have put in default router? On your Windows computer run "ipconfig" command and see what is IP of Gateway (in Solaris it is called default router).
I got it ! Sorry about that you said try on the Windows computer. Thanks.
On my wifes computer it is 169.254.XX.XX
    On mine also 169.254.XX.XX
The XX are not the same.
Thanks for all of your help.

I want to make sure you're using the auto-update system, because that's the safest most reliable way to go, and it shouldn't appear in the download manager, so I lets make sure you're doing it right. <br/>
This is a screencast I made a couple of years ago. It refers to 3.5 and 3.6, but the steps are still the same: http://ilias.ca/screencasts/ISUHD45.mov
If that doesn't work, then maybe your Snow Leopard account doesn't have permission to update applications?

  • I am trying to setup my ipad 2 but I can't get back to the wi-fi connections section.  How do I get there, nothing is working.

I am trying to setup my ipad 2 but I can't get back to the wi-fi connections section.  How do I get there, nothing is working.

The Wi-Fi connections section is in Settings > Wi-Fi
If the home screen is not visible tap the Home button, the button on the front of your iPad that has the rounded square in it. Once you reach the Home screen swipe through the screen of apps until you find the Settings app. Tap Settings and go to Wi-Fi.
If your iPad is completely non responsive, try a restart.
Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep button simultaneously ignoring the red slider. Keep holding until the Aple logo appears and your iPad will restart.
The sleep button is on the side of your iPad on the side opposite from the Home button.

  • I am trying to setup wireless using my old dome Airport ExtremeBase station. I had previously used it about 5 years ago when I had dial up but have now switche to DSL with Windstream. I can not get connecte as ABS keeps trying to dial up(the phone number)

I am trying to setup wireless using my old dome Airport Extreme Base station. I had previously used it about 5 years ago when I had dial up but have now switched to DSL with Windstream. I can not get connected as the ABS keeps trying to dial up(the old phone number). When I tried to change my network settings an annoying popup window says "your network settings have been changed by another application'. I have no idea what the message is all about and when I close this window it immediately pops up again and prevents me -as far as I can tell -from changing my Airport settings?  I need advice on how to get this wireless setup done. Maybe a reset? or something else? I have the DSL phone line plugged into WIndsteam Seimens Speedstream 4200 modem and then the ethernet (yellow) wire from the WIndsteam Seimens Speedstream 4200 modem to the port on the dome that is a circle of dots.

1)Can you explain how using the AEBS as a bridge will work with the Seimens Speedstream4200?
As a bridge, the AEBS will basically become a wireless access point. This will allow the AEBS to provide a wireless network, but still allow the Speedstream to provide NAT & DHCP services for the wireless clients connected to the AEBS. If the AEBS was left as a router, you would have a double-NAT condition which isn't necessary bad in itself, but would create a second subnet. That would make it more difficult for clients connected to the AEBS to access clients connected to the Speedstream.
    2) Is there a link that will guide me through the steps to set the AEBS as a bridge?
You can easily reconfigure the AEBS as a bridge using the AirPort Utility.
ref: AirPort Utility > Select the AEBS > Manual Setup > Internet > Internet Connection > Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
3)Can I just connect the DSL phone line to the AEBS and eliminate the Speedstream4200?
Unfortunately no. The AEBS does not have a built-in DSL modem. You will still need the Speedstream to provide this function.

I had the same problem and found a bunch of others did, too.  Unfortunately all the posts had no responses!  Anyway, I previously had my payment method linked to my paypal.  I tried changing it to my credit card and it worked.  Don't know if there's a bug with using paypal but that seemed to be the culprit for me.  Good luck!

    Hi mwatts18,
As a preliminary troubleshooting step, you should reference the information in the following article:
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3276
I would especially suggest that you delete the account and re-add it, making sure that you are entering the correct password when you add the account. Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!

My Firefox menu button has disappeared. Why? How can I get it back? Without it I don't know how to get to my FTP. I never did anything to make this happen.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).
Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.

I followed the steps to restore to factory settings now I can't get back my info from a prior backup. My pads screen was frozen on the connect to iTunes I needed to restore. I had to setup my pad as if it was new. How do I acess my prior backup

Once again, KP is correct, but I just want to add that if you don't see the backup in the drop down menu on the summary page of iTunes when you choose the restore from backup option, then the backup is unfortunately gone. If you backup your computer, the iPad backup should probably be in that computer backup. I use Time Machine with my MacBook Pro and can access backups from months ago.
On a side note, I also archive backups from time to time. If you right click on a backup name in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>Devices (Windows) or iTunes>Preferences>Devices (Mac) you can save that backup or archive it. It will be date and time stamped. I have no idea why I do this to the degree that I do it, but I probably have 12-14 iPad backups archived in iTunes.

  • My iMac has a Kernel Panic screen come up on start up and I can't get past it no matter what I try. Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

My mac has a "Kernel Panic" screen come up on start up. No matter what I try I can't get past this to fix it. Any hints out there? Do I have to completely wipe my drive and re-install to fix this? I can't even back up my files before doing this as like I say I can't get past the Kernel Panic message.

There are some fairly informative articles about kernel panics...
    •OS X: About kernel panics:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Note the toggle triangles to get more info in the above article, some are
important steps, with alternative methods of accessing or performing a
suggested activity and may vary with the OS X version in use.
    •Resolving Kernel Panics:
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
•Technical Note: TN2063: Understanding and Debugging Kernel Panics:
    https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/technotes/tn2063/_index.html
The above TN covers several technical aspects to identify & troubleshoot.
Some are above the average user needs, but still can be rather helpful.
Hopefully you can get past the kernel panic screen, there are several
ways to attempt to do that, however if the issue is hardware, a reinstall
of the OS X may not cure the underlying cause of the symptom.
    Good luck & happy computing!
