Ftp:// URLs do now work in Safari

I can not get any ftp:// URLs to work in Safari. I sent in a bug report, but am hoping someone has a workaround for this.
This is the message I get if I try to download GSView from mirror.cs.wisc.edu using Safari:
Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “ftp://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors/ghost/ghostgum/gsv48w32.exe”. The error was: “unknown error” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1) Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

FTP did not work for any of the Ghostscript mirrors that I tried, so I assumed it just did not work at all.
I confirmed that with a local FTP server that it works somewhat.
If you specify the full path to the directory you are interested in it gets there, however if you attempt to click down into a directory, it hangs and you get server connection interrupted windows popping up.
Also once you are there it gets server connection interrupted windows popping up randomly.

Clear Safari, close Safari and reset the iPad.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data.
In order to close apps in iOS 7, drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

URL rewrite now working for SharePoint 2013 result page

I have configured reverse proxy using URL Rewrite (ARR), all works fine but the rule is not processing for SharePoint 2013 result page. It still shows internal domain name and not external domain name.

According to your post, my understanding is that the rule was not processing for SharePoint 2013 result page.
Please make sure you add the reverse rewriting rule correctly.

FTP /path not working for Safari

I can't get Safari (native to OSX) to retrieve an FTP url from a
Netware 6.5
It will connect and display files for the url ftp://FS1 but it will
not connect to the url ftp:/FS1/Software/MAC/
Firefox on the same OSX box works fine with the added path AND
Safari will work to a Windows ftp server with the added path in the
url
I had to set PSEUDO_SERVER_FLAG=3 to get Safari to
display files to the NW65 ftp server. (with nwftpd's Default setting
it would connect but not display)
Now I want to lessen the burden for the user of having to navigate
through folders
Also,
Why does Safari hands off an ftp connection to FINDER whereas
Mozilla keeps the FTP connection within its browser window

Safari cant open the page ftp://www.apcmedia.com:21/salestools/STRH-6D5PA3R0EN.pdf because it could not load any data from this location.
I have to use IE in vpc then transfer the pdf back to mac os x. what a pain !

You could use another browser on the Mac instead, such as Camino. That downloaded the file without any problems.

I am running OS 10.6.8.
I did a "normal" software update (under the Apple icon).. didn't update the OS to a higher level, it's still 10.6.8. But now certain websites tell me that Java is missing or not working. When I go to the Java site, they say that you can only download the newest Java for OS 7 or higher... that Java is automatically part of OS 6 and should have automatically updated when I do a Mac software update.
Java used to work. Now that I've "updated" my Mac software, it doesn't work. And there's no way to download and install Java (according to them).
It's a never ending circle with no solution.

FTP link in a html page isn't working in Safari 4.0.5 - any ideas?

One of my colleagues/clients has recently set up an ftp server so that customers can upload their files for printing using a username & password. I was asked to update the website I designed for them, by adding a small link at the bottom of the index page titled 'customer login', that directs customers to the server. Having done this I then found that the link doesn't work in Safari? It's fine in Firefox & IE.
If however you hover over the link & right click with your mouse to select 'Open Link In A new Window' it works as it should. I've tried making the link load in a new window & as a pop up window using javascript, but neither works.
I searched these discussions & found a similar post to this question from 2008, in which the response was 'Safari does not currently support links to ftp in this way'. Surely this issue has been resolved?

If you can't install or update Flash, follow these instructions.
If you have installed the latest version of Flash, please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test.
For a "blocked plug-in" error, see Step 4.
For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.

Download multiple file URL's at once in Safari 5.1?

If I have a list of URL's of files (MP3's in this case) I used to be able to copy and paste the whole list into the Downloads window in the previous version of Safari and it would begin downloading all of them automatically.
With the elimination of the Downloads window in Safari 5.1 I can't figure out how to do this; I know I can download one URL at a time by pasting it into the address bar and Option-Return, but that doesn't work with a long list of URLs.
Any idea of how this works in Safari 5.1?

Problem solved, thanks to your suggestion. I had installed third party software, Speed Download, which in previous versions of Safari would add a menu bar item allowing it to manage downloads. SD did not appear to work with Safari 5.1, the menu bar no longer allowed access to the software, but it was interecepting download commands (not opening the SD program to download them, however). I used the SD uninstaller to remove the program, and now Safari downloads behave normally. I did try safe mode boot, which did not solve the problem, but it was definitely the download manager causing the problem.

QT 7.4.5 (25) is still not working in Safari

How long Apple needs to fix this long overdue problem ? Many advices posted in this forum are confusing for most users. QT 7.4.5 was part of their software update and now it is simply not working in Safari. Apple had started to post older versions on their site for download but failed to provide reasonable guidance of how to revert it. Simply cannot install the older version even after I trashed the 7.4.5 version.

Why does goolgeearth work with Safari & Chrome but not Firefox

When in firefox using Google maps and click on "EARTH" I receive a window indicating that to use 3D I need to install 21.0 Google Earth Plug-in with a "Download" option to click on. Note: Firefox 21.0 and MAC OS 10.7.5 have all current software updates installed. Safari & Chrome do not request for any plug-ins and 3D Earth option works fine. ANY HELP?
PS. my MAC does have an Intel HD Graphics 3000 installed but my MAC, Safari & Chrome work fine.

When you go to dolinsky296's suggested website https://www.google.com/earth/explore/products/plugin.html I saw "Download plug-in" box in the middle of the globe. When I click it the download executed but the plug-in never got installed. Then I clicked on "Download Google Earth" in the ''upper right corner'' of the website and life was good. Google Earth now works in Firefox.

Plug-in Failure (Flash not working in Safari but working in Chrome)

I realise there have been threads on this subject but I seem to have tried everything besides re-installing ML at this stage.
When loading any flash content on any website within Safari - I receive a 'Plug-in Failure' message where the content should appear.
I feel the problem has been occurring since downloading the newest update
I was hoping someone could point out if I had missed out on something
Here are the steps I have taken to attempt to resolve this...
1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of Flash. (This actually did work once for about a half an hour, i've tried it about half a dozen times)
1a. Turning my computer off and on again
1b. Attempted downgrading my Flash version but the flash installer kept failing.
2. Logged into a guest account (Flash didn't work in safari)
3. Booted up in Safe Mode (Flash worked but very slowly)
4. Reset Safari (Flash didn't work)
5. Disabled Extensions (Flash didn't work)
6. Enabled Plug-ins & Java within Safari (Flash didn't work)
7. Removed plug ins that I believed may be effecting it (Flip4Mac) (Flash didn't work)
8. Deleted all data in the pref pane for Flash (Flash didn't work)
9. Removed all website data within Safari (Flash didn't work)
10. Tested Firefox and flash is also not working in firefox.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.

This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.

Flip4Mac not working in safari 5

hi guys, just noticed as i tried to listen to jazz fm that the flip4mac app thats streams wmas no longer works in safari 5, i think im on the latest version of flip4mac, anyone else got this problem or should i try reinstalling?

Cross-frame scripting is not working in Safari 3.0.4. Minimal example code.

I've found that cross-frame scripting is not working in Safari 3.0.4, as it worked
ok on Safari 3.0.1, and in other browsers I tried: Firefox, Mozilla, IE.
document.domain property is set to "ds2ps.net", correctly to the best of my knowledge
in the frameset and in both frames. Both frames and frameset are loaded
from subdomains of the same domain "ds2ps.net"
Please have a look at this mimimal example:

Press buttons to get alert with value of a variable defined in the frameset
and in the first frame.
This gives "undefined" in Safari 3.0.4, and give following message in Safari
JavaScript console:
Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL http://frameset.ds2ps.net/frames-test/frameset.html from frame with URL http://frame2.ds2ps.net/frames-test/frame2.html. Domains, protocols and ports must match.
Works ok in all other browsers and in earlier versions of Safari.
Apperently, I'm doing something incorrectly.
I would appreciate if Apple Safari developers have a look at this problem and suggest solution.
My company is developing web application which depends on cross-frame scripting,
and we would like to continue supporting Safari browser.
