FTP vs. NFS- basic configuration and doubts - bt. unix and windows systems

Hi all,
I need to configure a connection between PI (unix box) and a windows server using File Adapter (both sender and receiver).
My doubts are:
- Which is preferable type of conection: NFS or FTP?
- Which are the advantages and disadvanteges of both?
- Most important: Which are the prerrequisites for both ways? Such as installing server ftp, or mounting folders, OS configuration, security config. Etc. etc.
I will apprettiate if you could also post a direct link to documentation.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
NFS: when the file folder is available on the XI Server
FTP: when it is at remote
If the Sharing folder is in the same XI system then NFS..If the sharing folder is in different system it is FTP.
we will use NFS when we required to poll the files from local machines.and we will use FTP when we required to poll the data from the FTP server which are in the remote side or outside of the firewall
FTP (file transfer protocol) here you are getting data from ftp server or you are writing to FTP server.
NFS is used when your XI can access the file location directly using the NFS protocol.
When the File System can be access using FTP protocol, then you need to use FTP and provide the FTP server details and user crendentials to pull data from the File Server.
NFS is used when you want XI to use the NFS protocol to access thye location of the file.
FTP is File Transfer Protocol and is used when your Sender SYstem is using an FTP system to send / receiver files.
we are using NFS when we required to poll the files from local machines..
We are using FTP when we required to poll the data from the FTP server which are in the remote side or outside of the firewall..

  • Basic Configuration and Support Pack Stacks

    Hi everyone,
Just a general question about the Solution Manager 7 "basic configuration" stuff.
Are you required to perform the "Basic Configuration" everytime after you apply a new support pack stack to solution manager?
Or is it a one off, after the initial installation?

  • NI Fbus Configurator and Windows 7 Compatibility

Will NI FBUS Configurator 3.2.0 works with Windows 7?  If not, is there an upgrade path? We are using a NI PCI FBUS card.
If an upgrade is required, is it software or hardware or both that is upgraded?  What is the cost to upgrade?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Configurator 3.2.x does not support Windows 7. You can upgrade to Configurator 4.0.1. Only the software needs to upgraded.
The cost of the upgrading is much lower than purchasing a new license. Please contact your local NI sales representative for more information.

  • Help! WRT54GL with Windows Vista Basic laptop and Windows XP Home desktop?

Hi. I am going to try and help a friend out and I was wondering if any of you can give me any helpful tips? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Here's the situation...
He recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop that's running Windows Vista Basic. He has a Dell desktop computer at home as well that's running Windows XP. I had him purchase a Linksys WRT54GL router. We want to network the laptop running Windows Vista Basic and the desktop running Windows XP. Is there anything we should be aware of? Anything to know before hand that will help the process go smoother? Will I face any issues being that his new laptop is running Windows Vista Basic and his desktop is running Windows XP? I must admit that I know very little to nothing about Windows Vista. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

No not very much ... if you are using wired connection then make sure that the IP address on Local Area Connection should be 192.168.1.X ...... try to ping the Gateway address 192.168.1.1  ..... then 4.2.2.2 & at last yahoo.com....
If you are using wireless connection .... then make sure that the wireless network name should be same as in the router ......

  • After installing contribute 6.5, I establish FTP connection, set admin role and the system crashes

I've been using Contribute for over 9 years now.
I am currently using Contribute 6.5 version.
After installing, creating a connection with the FTP, setting up Admin roles, an error message appears and then the system crashes.
    Why is this happening?
    It has never happened before!

    Hi There,
Can you confirm your Operating System ?
What error message are you getting?

  • 0xc000000f (boot configuration) and 0x8000ffff (system restore)

I CANNOT STARTUP MY COMPUTER WHICH IS:
    HP Pavilion dv7-4180us Entertainment Notebook
    Intel Core I5
RUNNING Windows 7 Home Premium OA 64 bit
THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS THAT, ON STARTUP, I GOT THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE:
    Windows Boot Manager
    Windows failed to start
Insert Windows Installation disk and restart computer
    Choose language settings
    Click “repair computer”
    Boot \BCD
    Status:: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE A Windows INSTALLATION DISK, I TRIED TO BOOT USING A RECOVERY CD.  IT DID NOT BOOT AND REQUESTED A SYSTEM IMAGE TO REPLACE THE SYSTEM.   I DO NOT HAVE A SYSTEM IMAGE ON CD OR DVD.
I THEN MANAGED TO GET INTO WinRE (RECOVERY ENVIRONMENT) AND TO MAKE A BACKUP OF MY DOCUMENTS.  I RAN THE CHECK DISK OPTION AND NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND.  I THEN ATTEMPTED TWICE TO RESTORE THE SYSTEM TO TWO DIFFERENT POINTS IN THE PAST.  IN BOTH CASES RESTORE FAILED AND PRODUCED THE FOLLOWING ERROR MESSAGE:
    System Restore Error 0x8000ffff
MY QUESTION:  Is there any way of repairing the problem without having to reinstall Windows and the whole system?
    THANK YOU!

It looks like the BCD is missing or corrupted.
First, make a Windows 7 disk as outlined in message 6 here.
Once you have the disk made, boot from it and select the repair option since you don't really want to install Windows.
Once you are in the repair menu, follow the steps in this guide to ensure the boot partition is still the active partition and to repair the BCD.
     Let me know what happens.

  • IPhone and windows system recovery

hi i have an iphone and i did a system recovery recently (windows xp) and i was wondering if when i connect to itunes to sync it says delete all files. will it delete my photos, contacts and notes and music or just my music

    007bond,
If you put at least one contact into Outlook or Address Book, you will get the option to merge the contacts with your computer. Notes are not synced with the computer at all, so those should remain unchanged.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • Put on a new Firefox persona, but several sites didn't work with it, so I changed back to my previous persona. But now neither my Yahoo mail nor my GoDaddy mail works correctly, and Windows System Restore didn't help. How can I fix it?

Windows 7 system... everything was working correctly before the new persona. I have scanned and cleaned out my cache; no problems or viruses.

Actually, I've solved the problem. It wasn't the Persona at all. I got a clue that someone else had the same problem after using CCleaner, and I had just done the same thing. My problem was corrupted cookies. I tried several fixes - nothing worked - so I just ran CCleaner again, and it straightened everything out.

  • Timing difference between Macbook and WIndows system

I uses a web content management system for my website which was developed in windows, IE and firefox compatible. I notice that if I open up the website in a Macbook Pro, the system time is always 8 hours ahead of Singapore time although the Macbook time settings is set locally. I use firefox, safari, IE5, same result. Which means whatever contents I saved only appears 8 hours later. I use Windows IE or firefox and it works just fine. I don't think is the CMS system problem. I thought it might just be on this Macbook, I got someone to try it out using another Macbook, same result, 8 hours ahead. So it it something about the Macbook settings?
    na   Windows XP Pro

    Hi Keonigt,
There are definitely hardware differences between the MacBook and its bigger sibling the MacBook Pro. You pointed out the first difference of screen sizes. Another perhaps obvious difference is the MacBook Pro's external construction is aluminum as opposed to "plastic". Another difference which may affect performance is that the MacBook Pro utilizes dedicated Video RAM as opposed to the MacBook's sharing it's VRAM with its RAM. This will affect gaming and other graphic intensive applications.
Depending on your needs and objectives - these differences will affect your decision. Of course, both are fantastic machines.
    Good luck.

  • Swing and windows system tray

could anyone please tell me whether it is possible to have a java swing application running on a windows machine, minimise into the system tray?
    Thank-you.

AFAIK no. This is because the system tray is rather platform specific. I believe it is possible to have your app tuck itself neatly away in a corner of your desktop, and obviously you can minimise to the task bar. However without soem kind of native addition (maybe a custom launcher?) you can't minimise to the system tray.
    Sorry

  • Dual Boot - Win 7 and Windows 10TP | HDD Prep and layout help

    Hi,
This is my first time actually submitting a question in the forum. I've spent so much of my time on here reading for solutions but now hope for some help of my own.
My first attempt at installing Windows 10 Tech Preview (as an additional OS), rather than a 7<10 upgrade went ok until I completed the first platform update.
After that update, neither OS would load and using a Windows 7 recovery CD/start-up repair. It advised the MBR was corrupt.
I attempted many "fixed" found on this site, such as; CMD - MBR[repair, rebuild] etc. System restore was not an option due to the fact that when the RE booted, it could not load drivers for the HDD..possibly? Also, could not locate any existing
    Windows installs.
I am now attempting to start again from square one.
I have since learnt the boot/volume table partitioning is different for each OS, MBR/MBT as opposed to GPT(GUID). Could this have caused corruption on the System boot volume (small vol, 600Mb approx).
    Should I,
    A. Perhaps create a VHD using disk manangment - if so, will the PC boot giving both OS options as previously?
    Or B:
Someone please give me a better option :)

    Many thanks in advance.

Hi, whatever you decide to do, It's best to install the oldest OS first, in your case, Windows 7. When you boot from your Windows 7 DVD, select advanced installation, from there you can setup your disk partitions for Windows 7 and another partition for
Windows 10. While your at it you can setup additional partitions for your data if so desired. Once you have your Windows 7 installed, you will need to boot from your Windows 10 DVD and select advanced setup so you can tell Windows 10 which other partition
to install into as not to wipe out your Windows 7 installation. Doing this will give you the multi-boot configuration and Windows 10 will install it's own Boot Manager. Hopefully you won't have the problem with the Boot Manager bug Windows 10 has. The
bright side is there is a work-a-round to that problem. Having a Multi-Boot setup gives each OS direct access to your hardware resources. A VHD setup is good for testing software and to see what an OS will be like to use, but suffers from
performance issues for some applications as it is an emulation. The up side of a VHD install, is your system is isolated from any problems you may have with a guest OS plus you can easily delete it if you do not like it or have problems with it. If run
into similar problems in a multi-boot scenario, you actually have to re-format and/or delete partitions and do a re-install to fix problems.

  • Wheel Mousr fix and Windows 7 64 bit

I am using Visual Basic 6 and Window 7 64 bit for my OS. I have the wheel mouse fix for XP, and it also works in Windows 7 32 bit, like the fix did for XP. The Wheel Mouse Fix works fine in Windows 7 32 bit, but doesn't using Windows 7 64 bit. It will
move sometimes, but not like in a 32 bit OS. How can I get the Wheel mouse fix to work using Windows 7 64 bit??? Is there some way to make it call the Program Files(x86) folder???
The command line for registering the DLL is:
Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 C:\VBMouse\VB6IDEMouseWheelAddin.dll, and then click OK.
Like I said it works fine for 32 bit, but not using 64 bit. Anyone out there have any ideas.
    Thanks,
    dabeartn

    Hi,
I'm very pleased to say that I've just this minute figured this one out.
I'm assuming you've grabbed the download from here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837910
    The solution is here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282747
What I suggest you do is:
    1. Put VB6IDEMouseWheelAddin.dll somewhere where it can live forever more - I went for C:\Windows
    2. Open a command prompt (I opened mine as Admin, not sure if it's necessary but why not eh?)
    3. cd \windows\syswow64
    4. regsvr32 c:\Windows\VB6IDEMouseWheelAddin.dll
Then open VB6 as usual, under the Add-Ins menu click on Add-In Manager and you should see MouseWheel Fix at the very top. Just tick the Load Behavior boxes as you wish and that's it.

    Nick

  • What is the Flash Player auto-update behaviour for users without admin credentials on OSX and Windows?

    Hi
Does Flash Player auto-update have the ability to update systems when a user does not have administrator access on their device?
What will the results be if we enable Flash Player auto-update on OSX and Windows systems where:
    1.  Users are log in with accounts that DO NOT have administrator access; and
    2.  Internet access is granted via a proxy server, but only when a user with NO administrator credentials is logged in.
    Thanks in advance.

    Maria
So there's no way to completely turn off user notification AND allow background updates unless you use a locally hosted update server?  That's too bad.
Reading page 26 of the manual, I see there's an mms.cfg file that you can configure, with an option SilentAutoUpdateEnable, which is described on page 32:
    SilentAutoUpdateEnable
    SilentAutoUpdateEnable = [ 0, 1 ] (0 = false, 1 = true)
Availability: Flash Player 11.2 for Microsoft Windows, and Flash Player 11.3 for Macintosh
Enables a Flash Player update to install silently in the background with no user interaction. Installs both the ActiveX and plug-in players when appropriate. This type of update is called a Flash Player background update.
Standard users cannot disable background updates if they are enabled by an administrator.
Depending on the type of browser, if the user has a browser open at the time of an update, the browser might not use the updated player immediately. For more information, see "Performing a background update" on page 19.
The default value is 0 to disable background updates.
So you're saying that even if we enable this option (but don't configure a local server), users may still be prompted some or all of the time?

  • Previously windows used external drive to be used in mac (and windows)

i´ve just bought a macbook and planned to use a couple of external drives i previously used on my pc with time machine and whatnot. only it seems they are write-protected in mac os, so they can´t be used as back-up drives. do i have to format them again using mac, or do it in windows, or is there a way around this? and can it be done so both mac and windows recognizes it as writable?
    thanks

    Dave Sawyer wrote:
They're probably formatted NTFS, which Mac OS X can read but not write. There are third-party NTFS drivers, one open-source and one commercial, but you can just reformat the drive as FAT32 (MS-DOS format in Disk Utility) and it will work just fine with both your Mac and Windows systems.
If the OPs intent is to use it with Time Machine, the external drive needs to be formatted HFS+ (Mac OS Extended (Journaled) via Disk Utility. I believe there is a Windows app that permits viewing of HFS+ drives. Since you have a 'couple' of external HDDs, it's probably best to use a dedicated HDD just for TM backups.

  • Creatinig an intranet wiki for an OS X and Windows enviroment.

I have a question about putting together and implementing a single wiki site for a school district that uses mac and windows systems.  The issue I am having is I need them to be able to use one single site for this purpose.  However I am sure there
is a way to do this if that was the only issue.  The school is currently using the Google chrome management console for their schools.  They have 1 additional school that is on a separate management console and cross "domain" merging isn't
supported by Google.  The students do not have AD accounts because they use Gmail as their log in credentials to their network.
Is there anything that will allow me to create on site for them both to use and update that they will be able to access edit etc for both schools and still support both windows and mac OS X in a single site?  If this is possible could someone please
point me in the right direction so that I can begin getting the groundwork down for implementing this for them.  Thank you in advance for the help and information.
