FTP WAN 10.4 Tiger O.S to X.P

Cannot seem to get Windows X.P computer connect to my
G5 using Tigers' FTP feature through the world wide web.
Ive created an account
/password.
Works fine within my own network (local area network)
Perhaps its a setting in X.P thats not communication
with my G5.
Anybody have ideas? steps? feedback?
Would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

+There are two aspects here. Technical and License. If you have only 6 concurrent file sharing users, then the 10-client license will work fine.+
I have only six concurrent users. I was just concerned about upgrading from one to the other.
+Not knowing what modifications you may have made it is hard to tell. Personally I prefer to setup servers from scratch between major version changes.+
I am sorry. The only modification was to shift from ClamAV to FreshClam.
+What services are you running on your server?+
The services I have running are;
AFP

  • FTP command buggy on tiger

Since I'd moved to tiger, I'm not able to use my powerbook to update my web site. The command ftp bugs : impossible to list the content of some directory but it works fine on others. In fact it seems not to work on big directories, it's also impossible to put file file on that kind of directory...
I used to work fine with panther...
I tried third party programm but I got the same results... the server doesn't respond when I try to access some directory.
It works fine using the DOS ftp command on my PC. It's creasy.
Would should I do except from swithing to windows,... or installing panther again (but I don't know how to do that afer installing tiger without reformated my disk....)

    Hi,
Yes i found a solution, but it was not a nice one! My solution was to create an ABAP mapping. When the files comes to the XI i use this mapping and inside i have coded the FTP send procedure. For that i use the FTP_CONNECT and FTP_COMMAND function modules.
After the file has passed the mapping i just use af dummy Communication Channel to place the file on af arcive space.

  • What about ftp-access from www?

    Hi folks,
first I want to say, I browsed the forum since May 08.
    Second please excuse my English.
I'm still trying to set up TC for FTP access from www.
afp works but what about ftp? -
I talk about ftp (RFC959) described in 1985! Why it does not work in a 2008 manufactured product?
I do not demand sftp but I never heard about a company that sells networking products which do not support ftp forwarding...
    Apple -that's poor performance.
Hundreds of users are still waiting for firmware update.
Please publish the firmware, if your lack of resources doesn't allow to solve this problem!
Does anybody has an idea to access TC from WAN?
    <Edited by Moderator>
    Thx

As you have mentioned that your ISP is an DSL provider, Login to the setup page of your Router and click on the status tab and check if the Internet IP address.
Have you enable the FTP feature on  your Router? If not then login to the setup page of your Router and click on the storage tab and below Enable "FTP Server" and let the FTP Port be 21 and below select the folder which you want to access it from Internet and click on save settings... Then click on the Administration tab and check for the "Server Internet IP Address" and also below check if Anonymous FTP access is it Enable or Disable. If you wish to allow anonymous Internet access then you need to Enable it or let it be Disable and click on save settings...
To access your FTP server from Internet note down the WAN IP, So it should be ftp://ftp.wan-ip:21. This should allow you to access your drive from the remote location.

  • Ftping without password

On my Tiger machine, I can ssh into a redhat machine without a password. I can then ftp back to the Tiger machine . On my Leopard Machine, I can ssh to the redhat machine without a password but cannot ftp back to it even though I can ssh to the red hat machine from the Leopard MAC without. I think everything in sharing is set right.
    What am I missing?

    Use sftp, not ftp.

  • FTP setup in Tiger

    Hi all
I want to setup ftp in my G5 running Tiger 10.4.4 ,with user name password for ftp & define a particular folder or drive(local ,firewire etc.) to be publish over network(local or internet)
    PowerMac G-5(DP,1GB RAM,160 GB HDD)

Setting up particular folders for ftp access is possible with the Server Version of OSX, but just a quick look at the sharing settings in client version, looks like not much control other than on and off.
You could maybe setup another user and use that account username and password ???
Not sure if there's another way...
As I said easy to do with the Server version.
    Good luck though !

  • Help with FTP files in Tiger

Ever since I installed Tiger on this computer, I am unable to FTP files to my ISP. I have tried various client software solutions (Dreamweaver, Fetch, Bullet Proof). They all act like the connection times out before the file is uploaded. I am able to upload files from another computer on the same network that runs 10.3.9...but that is not a very convenient solution. I have checked to make sure that my Network settings are the same for both of these computers. Any other suggestions? I can log on and see the remove server directory...but cannot upload files.
Thanks in advance for your sage insight!

Funny firewall settings might be on the mac you're having trouble with. These settings would not affect the the other 3.9 mac.

  • Read Tiger install and now can't recognize printer. Help me Obi Wan!

Running a Mac 450 G4 under 9.2.2. I've been using OS 9.2.2 happily for years but encouraged to upgrade to 10.4. I took the big step and bought Tiger, installed a second internal drive just in case, but was too chicken to go all the way: I put the OS 10 DVD in my drive and read it carefully ONLY but did not install it. Now, the computer won't recognize my printer ( HP deskjet 1220C ) no matter what I do. I tried reinstalling the printer driver from HP but no luck. I'm ready to burn my computer, turn OS 10.4 back into the dealer and stay OS 9.2 until I die. What the **** did I do? Help me Obi Wan! You're my only hope!

The error message shown says " The file will be moved to the trash because no desktop printer exists for this spool file."
The "usual" HP printer icon no longer shows on the desktop at startup. Reinstalling the printer driver - as provided by HP - did not do anything.
When I go to chooser the printer is shown there. I select it and close the window as instructed by HP but the printer icon still doesn't show up on the desktop. I am able to open the HP printer utility and can print out a "test page from it but thats all I am able to get.
Since the last time I printed out some files, everything worked fine. I did have a new internal hard drive installed as a second drive by a local Mac shop yesterday. They initialized the new drive for me since I wanted to use it to back up my original, Apple installed drive and files before I attempted to upgrade to OS 10.4 tiger.
This is EXTREMELY frustrating. Did I screw something up? Did my local Mac shop screw something up? Does just starting up the OS 10 disk in order to read it do something? Is this a problem similar to " aborted OS 10 installs?"
Thank you very much for responding and trying to help me. You have no idea how much I appreciate your getting back to me on this.

  • Fixing Leopard FTP: Mixed up with PureFTPd from Tiger

Okay, so basically what happened is that I was using (and enjoying) PureFTPd in Tiger, but the manager doesn't work in Leopard. I'm sure it'll be updated eventually, but I figure I'll just use the default one and force it to route through SSH for added security. Unfortunately, I can't get it working. I figured out the files PureFTP added by looking at the package (and removed them), AND I learned about /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ftp.plist... but I don't know what's supposed to go here. It still has all the PureFTPd entries, after all. Can anyone using the default FTP in Leopard post the contents of their ftp.plist file so I can get mine going?

Okay, I think I figured things out. First off, you need to delete the PureFTPD startup item, or it will keep respawning its FTP information. This can be done by deleting /Library/StartupItems/PureFTPD.
Next, you need to replace the contents of the ftp.plist file in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons with the following (extracted from my Dad's Macbook). It may be a good idea to just use the Plist editor and switch the application and parameters manually, if you have it installed with XCode, but otherwise it should work so long as you don't miss anything and it's valid XML. You won't normally have write access here, so you either need to edit it externally and copy it in, or use sudo nano, sudo vi, or whatever. Note that you should also make sure the ownership is still root and group wheel after you are done, as it could end up with you as owner instead (if you copied it from elsewhere). To switch it back, just do:
    sudo chown root ftp.plist
    sudo chgrp wheel ftp.plist
Here's the file (it lost its tabs by posting, but you can always indent on the <dict> tags if you prefer):
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

  • No FTP access over WAN with Airport Extreme 802.11n v7.3.2

    hi there,
I've read through a few different posts on this topic (both here and in other forums) but I can't seem to find the answers I need.
I have an AEBS n with version 7.3.2 of Airport Utility. attached to the AEBS is a hard drive. I want to enable file sharing (mostly FTP, but AFP would be fine too) to access the drive through the WAN port.
    here's what I've done:
    - connected a USB drive. This is available through my LAN and is accessible using my OSX account login & password)
    - enabled filesharing and "share disks over ethernet WAN port"
    - enabled NAT and default host on the AEBS
    - configured port mappings for FTP and ARD (I couldn't enable any other file sharing because of a port conflict. Is this because the hard drive connected to the AEBS is already set to use these?)
I created an account with DynDNS to resolve my ip to a domain name.
when I ping either my domain or the IP, I get the same results. it sees my isp but the destination host is unreachable.
port scanning my domain from 20 through 548 shows that 139, 445, and 548 are open. but no 20.
what am I doing wrong here?
    thanks in advance

  • How do I FTP with Tiger without a FTP program?

How do I FTP with Tiger without a FTP program?
I saw the tip on the web site a few days ago, but now I can't find it.
    Thanks ahead,
    -Line

I was very disappointed to find that we were misled. I am not sure if the guy who wrote this simply didn't check before he wrote this or what.
I wonder why Apple just took this off their site without any explanation to the people that were deceived. I spent quite a bit of time browsing discussions and contacting apple support to figure out that there was no truth to this "tip" of the week. How difficult would it have been to simply post a new tip, saying that we should not waste our time with this?

  • 10.4 Tiger Server FTP has new mystery password

    10.4.11 Server
I've been running the FTP site for my freelancers for 4 years without a hiccup. Over this past weekend it suddenly won't let them log on. When I go to administer the site to see what's up, there are 8 characters in the password box, but my password is 7 characters long. I've deleted the user and group and rebuilt twice using the same 7 character password but each time I leave the username, or the group setting, or Workgroup Manager and then go back in the password has changed back to 8 characters.
How do I reset this password so it will stick? Or, how do I discover what password the user is being assigned by the machine?
Of course I'm also curious how this could occur but right now it's much more important that my freelancers can access the FTP site as they have for 4 years without a problem.

there are 8 characters in the password box, but my password is 7 characters long. I've deleted the user and group and rebuilt twice using the same 7 character password but each time I leave the username, or the group setting, or Workgroup Manager and then go back in the password has changed back to 8 characters.
The box ALWAYS shows a fixed number of bullets. Passwords are immediately hashed, and it cannot determine the length of your existing password, only whether the password you entered is correct or not.
Here is another example of this:
"Regardless of how many characters are actually in a Mac OS X 10.2 password, seven bullet characters (•••••••) will appear in the New Password and Verify fields the next time the password is edited."

  • Tiger - Finder 'Connect to Server'  ftp protocol question

    Folks;
I recognize that the Finder's ftp access is read/download only.
I want to understand why I cannot get a file listing with this type of connection.
I authenticate correctly and a blank Finder window opens.
If I use the cmd-line I have to burp the file listing out as shown below.
Is there a way go get the Finder to request this listing with a standard ftp:// request?
Seems like after all these years the Finder wouldn't be so brain dead...
    Thanks for any help!

I don't know what "extended passive mode" is. It sounds like the Finder doesn't support it.
Actually, I think Apple is doing everyone a favor with FTP. FTP has no security whatsoever. FTP passwords are often login passwords. Using sftp is far more secure and more reliable. With MacFUSE and MacFusion, sftp can be integrated with the Finder.

  • FTP issue with Tiger server

We have one server where all users are (for some reason) able to use FTP to not only read, but write files to their desktops. I have logged in as two different uses. Both users have read-only rights on the folders I am accessing, but they can browse the folders and copy items straight to their desktop as if they have read and write access. For the time being, I have turned off FTP on the server because I do not know why the OS is behaving this way. Any ideas? Thanks for your input. As well, the users are not in any groups if that helps.

I don't understand the question - users should be able to read/write their own home directory, regardless of the method they use to connect (e.g ssh, FTP, AFP, etc.).

  • "securely" use one ethernet interface for WAN and other for the LAN

I am reconfiguring our dual 2.7 Intel Xserve running MacOSXServer 10.5.4, and had a question.
Is it possible (or advisable) to use en0 to perform LAN services, and then configure en1 to only allow access to very limited service. VPN, FTP, CALDAV and later Mail.
I imagine that this is possible via a firewall configuration, but first I do not know how to specify interface in addition to ports, and second I don't know how advisable this would be.
Currently I have a DSL package from ATT with 5 static IP addresses. I have an Airport Extreme set up as one of those addresses providing DHCP and NAT to the LAN. I am using the LAN ports on the back of that to bridge my three switches (2 managed [clients and oce print server 100 base-T] and 1 unmanaged [ laser printers and copier 10 base-T]).
I have the LAN based on 192.168.0.x, with the Xserve at 192.168.0.5. I have DNS configured and working (Thank you Antonio Rocco)
I have 20 LAN clients, 18 mac 1 PC and one PC via Parallels. I will have no more than 1 or 2 WAN clients at any one time
I provide AFP, SMB, Directory Services currently. As part of the reconfigure, I desire to take better advantage of the collaboration tools to provide wikis and CALDAV services. I also want to allow our employees to publish their individual calendars, so that they can subscribe to them at home, or vice versa.
I would like to configure VPN, one for me to access configurations when I am away using Remote Desktop (I have used command line to some extent, but still feel more comfortable with the GUI tools) and second for limited access to content for certain users.
It would also be very helpful for us to have a FTP site. It is unnecessary for this the be a FQDN service, sending the IP address is perfectly acceptable as we only use a service like this 10-15 times a year.
(Related but unimportant in the grand scheme, is there a way to generate a link to the FTP server that you could email that not only is a link, but also a temporary username and password?)
    Thank you in advance,
    Ion Webster

First, I missed a zero in the network speeds, I have two managed GbE switches that have all of the GbE capable machines connected to them, and an unmanaged GbE switch that has all the 10 or 100Base-T connections. My apologies for the mistake. That was one of the reasons I went with the GbE capable Airport to bridge the switches.
Ok, I had been leaning towards a separate hardware firewall, but here is also where there is a hole in my knowledge. Do I need to look at something like the Linksys RVS4000 which bills itself as a +"4-Port Gigabit Security Router with VPN. Secure, smart Gigabit networking for growing business"+ I would like easy configuration, as I take care of these systems in addition to my job, rather than full time. This will be the first time I have set up a VPN connection, so even though I have spent a lot of time researching the manuals, and reading Schoun Regan (Apple Training Series) I don't have real world experience here. So if I buy more hardware, I want it to be the product that will provide the protection, and also allow me to configure it so that I can get these services running. All my VPN clients are running Macs, most on an AIrport connection and have their IP ranges in the 10.0.1.x range. all but one is on OS 10.5.x so I have a fairly homogeneous set of machines to make work together.
I will review the links you provided regarding static routing, but I do believe the hardware solution is a better one, and wish to pursue it, for all the reasons you give, and that in the brief perusal of the links, it is more than I want to tackle.
As far as FTP vs sFTP, I have no preference. I simply want a way to have online storage for transfer of large files on occasion. Ideally I want a folder, or a series of folders that are accessible for my LAN users to put items in and take them out, and for my (s)FTP users to do the same
So long story short, the hardware solution I would like to purchase, I need to be able to do the following:
VPN connections for content access and ARD access ( knew about and will ensure differing IP ranges)
    (s)FTP
    Calendar publishing
    mail(at a later time)
Thank you for your help thus far.
    Ion Webster
