FTP with OS X Server
Hoping someone can provided some guidance/thoughts on a FTP problem I have with OS X server running on a Mac Mini. Currently I have devices FTP'ing to a Synology Diskstation with no issue. I have always found FTP setup simple in the past but am stumped migrating away from the Synology to the Mac Mini as the server. The devices (which happen to be Panasonic network cameras) that FTP to the Synology without issue can not FTP to the Mac. Here's an entry I see in the server log and I assume it's related to the issue. There is not much in the log that states have relation to FTP.

I have the FTP started, users defined, have FTP defined under "access" as custom access with two users allow from all networks on ports 20-21. In the FTP configuration I have a share setup as /ftproot with folder permissions for the two users with read&write access. I have tried both passive and active FTP. I think I've looked through all of the server config but can find anything else that I believe needs to be set up/defined. I have validated that I can use both userids to start and FTP session when done from a terminal window, so userid/passwords appear correct. Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.

Further test has determined there is no issue with FTP to the defined shared folder but I'm unable to point the files to a sub-directory under the share. Is there something that has to be done to enable the sub-directory as an accessible folder under the share that is defined in the server?

You can enable case sensitive link checking in the site
manager.
However, this is more the issue of the OS, rather then DW.
Windows -
which is the OS you use, I assume - is about the only OS
(that I know
of) which is case insensitive!
All Linux/Unix based servers are case sensitive. -
Can you FTP with "Connect to Server"?
I am using an old OS9 FTP program to maintain remote files. For the heck of it I tried to connect using the Connect to Server under Go in the menu bar. I can connect and download, but can't upload. It says that I don't have permission even though I had to use a password to get in. The server is UNIX.
Is there any way to make this a two way connection using Connect to Server? If so, please advise.

FTP error 426 with Windows IIS server
Dear SAP,
We are experiencing an issue between SAP PI 7.0 SP15 on P-Series AIX IBM Server and the Windows IIS FTP server. The interface in PI does connect to 3 systems with the FTP file adapter (a Mainframe, an AS400 and a Windows IIS FTP server). The mainframe and the AS400 connection are working fine but for the IIS we are getting a FTP failure in 90% of the transfers in 10% it works. With other clients (also one based on JFTP) everything works fine with the IIS server. The files are only 2kb and not to large as described in the File Adapter FAQ note.
There where tests with active (FTP failure 500) and passive connections, the timeout value was increased on both sides. The connection bandwidth reached never more than 40% and there were always enough CPU processes available on both sides.
Following technical details for the passive connection failure:

I still have problems with getting my website online. I have defined my server. Then I did the test and there was a connection via FTP. I put my files on the external server and there is a connection with the external server. But when I check to see my website online (with Firefox, Explorer, Chrome browser) I always get the message 'Forbidden, You don't have permission to access / on this server.' Can somebody help me please? I have to get my website online..Thank you!

it's well known, that in all these cases you describe I'm not a friend of a detailed Troubleshooting (I see Nancy#s smile already).
To be able to be independent in all this things It is one of the reasons why I prefer an external FTP program. The difficulties with which you have to fight encourage me in this opinion, not least because we always search for experts, we don't charge a "jack of all trades".
To manage several websites or to upload my files and sometimes for the opposite way, for a necessary download from my server or to use a "a site-wide synch", I'm using FileZilla. It simply looks easier for me to keep track of all operations precisely and generate or reflect easily the desired tree structure.
Above all, FileZilla has a feature (translation from my German FileZilla) called "compare file list". Here it's possible to use file size or modification time as a criterion. There is also the possibility to "hide identical files", so that only these files which you want to redact remain visible.
And even if it means you have to install a new program, I am convinced that there is an advantage. Here is the link to get it and where you can read informations about how it works:

You do not connect to iDisk via FTP. iDisk uses WebDAV. Also you do not need to manually upload the published files to iDisk as recommended buy others in this thread. Once the site and server is set up in DW you can publish and upload directly through DW.app Check out this post for more info. -
If you need to FTP with PL/SQL...
If you need to perform FTP from within PL/SQL and your database version has the UTL_TCP package, here is a free package you can use. The source code is hopefully documented well enough for you to tell what's going on and how to use the functions. Suggestions on improving the code are welcome, and I can provide limited support via email for what I've written, but I would encourage anyone who uses the code to modify/fix it according to their needs. If you modify the code, I respectfully request that you leave intact the authorship and note comments at the beginning of the package.

Write records to a Flat file & Ftp to a remote server
I know this would be a basic question for most of the ppl in this forum, but I am stuck in here.
There is a "Orders" table, and when new orders are made , I need to build a file with relevant information(extracted from tables) and FTP to a remote server.There should be a SQL job that would run for every 30 mins to see if there are any new orders made , and if so, Write them to a file and FTP back to a remote server.
The orders that were written to a file previously shouldn't appear when new files are created.
How can this be done..?
Thanks in advance..You'd need 3 basic components here
1) Something to identify new orders
2) Something to write whatever data you want to a flat file
3) Something to FTP that file
#2 is going to be the UTL_FILE package
#3 is going to require a third-party PL/SQL (or Java) FTP library. If you do a Google search on UTL_FTP, you'll find a few such PL/SQL packages or you can download an appropriate Java class and load that into the database.
#1 can be as simple as a Status column that gets set to NEW initially and PROCESSED when the file is generated. Or it could get a lot more complicated with something like Streams capturing changes to the table and sending those change records to a separate consumer process that would then generate the file and FTP it.

Data Transfer Port ranges in FTPS with SSL in File Adapter

I would appreciate if you could give me pointers reagrding the below issue.
We are on XI 3.0.
For one interface, I have to configure the FTP File adapter to pick up the files from external server.
The connection is secure and should be FTPS with SSL.
I have the certificate from the 3rd party and have it installed on our XI development server.
The change has been made in our firewall to allow the connection to the host IP and port 21 which is configured at the target party as Explicit FTPS port and they have allowed access to our Server IP in their firewall.
I have configured other FTPS connections and they worked fine but this is the only one that has been giving me so much trouble.
The error i get today is:
Error occurred while connecting to the FTP server "60.234.48.106:21": java.net.SocketException: Connection reset
Yesterday, i got the below error:
Error occurred while connecting to the FTP server "60.234.48.106:21": iaik.security.ssl.SSLException: Server certificate rejected by ChainVerifier
The Vendor has suggested to get the firewall ports 21 and 28000:30000 (data transfer) to be opened.
He has also provided with the certificate passphrase additionally to the user name and password needed to make the connection.
When i tried the connection from the XI development to the vendor server, via the Telnet, it looked like it worked.
Please advice.

1. Open the port ranges. FTPS usually requires you to open ports in the range of 65024 through 65535 for Passive FTP data
connections
2. Use the CA name in the certificate. it should be same as of the host name of the FTPS server -
Integrating FTP with JDeveloper
Can anyone help me with integrating FTP with JDeveloper (10.1.3)
I am developing jsp pages for a web site. the website runs on a Sun Solaris UNIX server.
At present i develop my jsp pages in JDeveloper and save then to a file on my PC. I then have to use an external tool (Ultraedit) to FTP them to my webserver for testing.
I have seen in this forum that there is something called 'ant' which will allow you to FTP direct from JDeveloper. I know zero about 'ant' and after spending a couple of hours trawling arround the web i'm still no wiser.
Can someone give me a hands held, idiot friendly explanation of what i have to do to integrate FTP?
johnHere is a basic explanation of the FTP task in ANT.
You can just create a new Ant build file in your project, add this task with the correct parameters and then right-click run on the build file.
Another options is to use JDeveloper to create standard WAR file for deployment and then passing it to the server to deploy. -
Ftp connection in oracle server
dear all,
i need some ideas...
Fact: We have an application made by programmers. This app enter a lot of external users through internet browsers. Now the application will have to upload PDF files and save into a directory. This files will be read with UTL_FILE in order to identify the file name.
We were thinking that we have to open an ftp connection (in oracle server) through this application in order to save the pdf files into directory (another server) but this directory will have to connect through NFS to my oracle server.
I think that this could be a potential risk in my oracle server if i open ftp...
can you give me some ideas o antoher ways in order to do that i want ???

Could not able to execute FTP commands in windows server machines 2012/ windows server 2008.
From windows server 2012 and windows server 2008, Opened port 20,21,22 in firewall bidirectionally. After Establishing connection by passing credentials 230 log in successful.
ftp commands executing getting as " 425 Use Port or PASV first" , "500 Illegal PORT command".
But I could able to do windows client machines like windows 7 and windows 8 with same environment
Note : Firewall ports are opened. have tested by making firewall down to avoid filters.

Did you mean even you disable or open the related port the FTP issue still exist? I found this errors most time occur when we use the ISA firewall and the FTP configured passive
mode, if you have ISA firewall please refer the following KB to fix this issue.

Yesterday we were in contact with the GXS hotline. They asked us to install CoreFTP Pro and we did the following configuration:
This configuration works but I have absolutely no idea how to put this configuration 1:1 to our PI system. (e.g. connection "FTPS (ssl direct)" and server type "GXS").
Do you have an idea how to implement it?

Dreamweaver CS 5.5 not working with Godaddy FTP with TLS/SSL
I've upgraded to CS 5.5 and tried to connect to a client's Godaddy account with FTP with TLS/SSL it fails. Works perfectly with my mac app Transmit every time as it always has. It doesn't work with implicit or explicit settings with authentication set to none or otherwise.
Can someone please let me know if Dreamweaver will ever be compatible with FTP with TLS/SSL and Godaddy? Or is there some setting I can try that will make it work now somehow?

That may be the case that Godaddy is also at fault, but every other FTP app I use with Godaddy works fine. It's just Dreamweaver and has always been just Dreamweaver not working with a secure connection to Godaddy. Considering Godaddy is the largest webhost in the USA, you'd think Adobe would have fixed this years ago. I should also mention I'm not endorsing Godaddy and I understand there's plenty of people that don't like Godaddy for very good reasons.

UPDATE: Whoops, I see you responded via private message already. I'll paste most of it here in hopes it helps others to understand the issue:

Ok this took a lot of digging. I won't say it's not a DW issue 100% and I will report a bug for your problem, but DW is not the problem alone Godaddy needs to share the blame here for a bad certificate. Here is what is happening:
I'll start with DW:
- The settings are correct that were in the post. Port 21, FTP explicit, and the authentication should be set to None (encyprtion only). This is where the transmission is encrypted using SSL, but the certificate is shared and not specific to the domain owner. That is the difference between DW's "none" and "trusted". It's a poor choice of words I'll give them that. However, Godaddy seems to want all connections to be trusted thus the other error you get when you turn on the None option. Now could DW do what Transmit does, warn you and write in an unsigned certificate into the Keychain app, probably, is it best practice for security reasons to "Trust" an unsigned certificate probably not.
Now Transmit:
- As explained above Transmit opens up a prompt to override and create a fake-trusted signed certificate. Thus by forcing the OS to think a legitimate certificate is there it gets you through albeit through unconventional methods.
The problem:
- A good portion of this problem lies with Godaddy. Now I use a shared hosting account and set one up on an independant host for a friend of mine and both of them accept the shared certificates (SSL explicit). The difference is the hostname of the certificate. I ran a traceroute (from Network Utility in Utilities folder) on your website and came up with the following address: 173.201.23x.x.
The problem is that the certificate on your server is actually not for that server which is the reason DW seems to have such an issue with it. The SSL certificate that Godaddy put on your shared server is for host - 173.201.19x.5x. As you can see, it's a certificate for another server. Honestly the fact that Panic's Transmit allows this override scares me a little bit and the fact that Godaddy never noticed this issue either scares me to. So while DW could write in a bad certificate I can see why this is happening.
I know there is not much solice in my answer because it still doesn't alleviate the problem that you have with DW connecting. Unfortunately I do not have a workaround despite my numerous attempts to try and gain access over a secure connection. One alternative you could ask Godaddy for in the meantime is an SSH connection which would allow you to use SFTP instead of FTPS. But that's a short-term solution to a long-term problem.
If you think of anything else feel free to bounce any ideas off me I don't mind. Good luck in getting this solved and I will post a bug report to make Adobe aware of the issue.

I think the issue might be that Godaddy is applying cost saving measures to keep their prices down in the way they implement their certificates (but it also wouldn't surprise me to know it's simply ineptitude on Godaddy's part either). I'm not sure I fault Panic with Transmit much at all because it clearly warns you about the certificate and it's your choice to continue. And, as it stands now, it's much safer to continue to connect that way with Transmit than to stop and connect with no encryption at all at a public hotspot.
As it stands now, you really shouldn't connect to Godaddy with Dreamweaver at a public hotspot unless you set up an SSH tunnel with your connection first. But enabling SSH is an added expense in many ways including paying for the service, using more computer resources for tunneling and time setting it up and implementation... all because Dreamweaver won't just allow developers the option like Transmit does.
Once again, thank you for looking at this and I hope someone at Adobe finally address this issue for the security of its customers who use Godaddy (which is often not their choice and was, instead, the choice of their clients to use Godaddy as a webhost).
Just a side note, I contacted Godaddy support about this several years ago and they were unresponsive and even hostile about it - So that's definitely another vote against Godaddy from me as well.

FTP Access on OSX Server via a browser
I have a number of ftp clients set up which can succesfully upload/download files using ftp client software (Fetch/Easy FTP).
I have a windows user who wants to upload his stuff via ftp in his web browser (IE presumably).
Not had any success (Guest access is disabled) with his account settings in browser though I can get in using same settings in ftp client.
Is this possible with the built in ftp element of OSX Server without having to install something like Rumpus?IE is the only browser I know of that supports FTP upload via the web browser window. Most Mac browsers that I'm aware of simply pass the FTP connection off to the Finder to deal with.
The Finder, of course, doesn't support FTP upload.
So unless your clients are comfortable working in the command line, you're going to need some additional software. That software could be as simple as an AppleScript application that performs the upload, but you're going to need something.
