FTTC Cabinet Location Havant P8

Our FTTC has been delayed a number of times and currently has an availability date of June 2013.
A quick check with our postcode on http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/ indicates that HAVANT cabinet P8 is along this path. However I have walked up and down this path lots of times and the FTTC cabinet is not there. There are also no regular cabinets along this path. This subject has definitely got me interested and I have been scouting round the area general area and found other cabinets, but not this one.
To add to this, when we had our phone line installed 3 years ago the BT Engineer spent hours trying to find out where our cabinet was.
Does anyone have any idea where this P8 cabinet actually is?
Brief History of FTTC Activity
In 2012, up the Langstone Road near the junction with Langbrook Close, the yellow markings were made beside an existing cabinet and shortly afterwards a new FTTC cabinet was installed. Even today this cabinet does not appear to be ‘humming’ so I don’t think anything has been installed in it yet.  Also neither cabinet has any markings on them whatsoever.
In Feb a few engineers appeared directly outside our house and were pulling the fibre cable in the underground ducts from Hayling Island up the road towards Havant.
In April 3 BT Openreach Vans were parked outside and they said that "the wrong sort of fibre" had been pulled through. They said it was FTTP rather than FTTC and therefore a different team would have to come out and terminate it. However they also said their time was not wasted as they were about to go around the area and scout out the cabinets.

AS promised, here are the photos of the P8 Cabinet. You can see the new FTTC cabinet in the background across the junction.
And here is the FTTC cabinet with the P8 in the background.
Closeup of the P8 cabinet with the new ident on it.
And finally a close up of the P8 ident.
So now the cabinet has been identified I had a quick listen to the P8 FTTC cabinet and this is silent which would seem to indicate that either there is no kit in it or the kit is not turned on.
Any idea if this is likely to happen in June 2013 or is it going to be delayed?

  • Possibility to have line moved to new FTTC cabinet...

My current cabinet is about 700 metres from my home. Tonight, I notice a new FTTC cabinet has been installed just around the corner from me at no more than 400 metres. Its also virtually line of sight of the exchange.
When I was on adsl, I was told my line length to my existing cabinet pre FTTC go live, was nearly 5km from the exchange. In reality, this cabinet is actual 1.7km from the exchange so clearly, the line goes all round the houses to go from exchange to cabinet.
The new cabinet is just over 1 km from the exchange so one would presume (dangerous, I know) the lines would be more direct. I know the line length from exchange to cabinet doesnt really matter but surely, a reduction from 5km line length to just over 1 km must have some advantages?
Anyhow, what would be the possibility of BT \ Openreach moving my line to the nearer cabinet? This should surely see my current speed of 53mb increase to 60mb or more?
How do you request your line to be moved to the new cabinet before all connections are taken?

Except if you order another line, as my mate has done for his business as home, his new business Infinity line is connected to a different cabinet than his home Infinity line. New line gets 80Mb/20Mb compared to original line variable of only 36Mb/5Mb. Both feed into a Draytek 2850 router to be shared with home and business network.
He needed the new line (obviously a business line being used for working from home) to get the superior up speed for use of remote desktop into the numerous servers he manages/configures/setsup as part of his business.
Also had a line fault, (water in duct ?) and as business line was fixed same day.

  • FTTC Cabinet P2 Billinge

Hi, as like everyone else our FTTC cabinet upgrade has moved numerous times, now showing March 2014.
When I check with Openreach when and where I get a yellow pin with the following message
    This marker shows cabinet: P2
Which is linked to exchange: BILLINGE
Please note: This is the intended area for the cabinet that will provide fibre broadband services to your postcode. We're sorry but it’s taking us longer than planned to get your cabinet ready for service. Please bear with us.
We're sorry that the work we are doing to bring fibre broadband to your area is taking longer than first planned. This can be for many reasons that include blocked underground cable routes, issues with providing electrical power to the cabinet and issues with the cabinet’s location. Please bear with us while we work to resolve this which may take some time. We will continue to work on this and apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.
Has anyone else had a similar message and how much longer did you have to wait before your cabinet was updated and you could order BT Infinity?
    Thanks
    Darren

Time varies depending on the actual problem i am afraid all you can do for now is wait

  • Bit of Advice about FTTC cabinets

    Hi all,
In my village we have all had FTTC cabinets installed, which is great however every cabinet has been powerd on and is accepting orders apart from the one that serves my property, it is cabinet no 19 and my post code is SG8 5JX.
I checked the BT wholesale checker and still tells me can only get up to 1.5 meg.
Anyone have any idea why it taking so long to switch on one cabinet or any more information on when it be turned on
    Thanks
    Paul D

most likely reason is that all testing openreach do before the cab goes live has not yet been completed just a matter of waiting the wholesale checker will advise you of the date your cab should go live all you can do is keep checking

  • FTTC cabinet rollout dates

Just throwing this one out there.
I continually drive past cabinets in my area stating proudly that Fibre is enabled but not the cabinet outside our office.  All the exchanges in doncaster appear to be updated and ready to accept orders however our cabinet seems to have been left out which is odd as it's in a heavily residential area.  Could it be that BT are making more money from leased lines and the like to justify the potential migration to FTTC which is considerably cheaper than leased lines.
I'm frustrated that nobody seems to be able to give me a data or even planned date for our cabinet which is noted on the wholesale site as:
on Exchange DONCASTER is served by Cabinet 57
we only get 2mb speeds on download yet are in a densely populated with both business and residential premises.
can someone please give me some kind of understanding as to why you can't even update me with when this cab is likely to be upgraded.  I would happily pay a much larger installation cost to get fibre but at present a 20Mb leased line is about 5k excess construction charges which is beyond reach for my business right now however the speed of our line is holding us back.

Within an exchange area there will be some customers who can't get BT Infinity. There are several reasons why this could be the case:
Your phone line may be connected directly to the telephone exchange and not to a local street cabinet.
Your line may be too far from the local street cabinet to have a stable BT Infinity service.
Your local street cabinet may not be suitable for fibre optic cables.
We haven't yet got the council's planning permission to do the necessary work at your local street cabinet.
So, even though you may be within an enabled exchange area, it's possible that your particular line may not be able to have BT Infinity yet.
You can ask Openreach by sending an email to [email protected]
The availability checker at www.bt.com/infinity has the latest detail about what speed your line can provide.

    Hi,
When attempting to import inventory data, using the DTW business object "Inventory Transfer" and using the templates "Transfer", "TransferLines", "StockTransferLinesBinAllocations",  "BatcheNumbers" and "SerialNumbers", the following error message appears:

  • FTTC Cabinet Commissioning

    Hi,
Our exchange (eabru) was due to be FTTC enabled in March 2012 and surprise, surprise this was put back to July 2012.  The BTOR 'Where & When' web page now shows June 2012 as does my ISP (Not BT).  So I guess it's iminent although I appreciate there could be other factors that may prevent it from happening.
A lot of BTOR and other non BT vans were seen working on my cab a few months ago but it's gone relatively quiet since then.  Although, I now see it's been fenced off and a Morrisons utility sign put up suggesting that electrical works are currently taking place (perhaps providing power to the cab?).
My question is does anyone know if this would be the last step in commissioning a new FTTC cabinet?
    Cheers.

Essentially the last step is a BT Operate engineer running tests from the cab back over to ensure the kit works and the fibre optics are capable of sending the amount of data required.

  • Having upgraded to an FTTC cabinet how do I get In...

    Guys,
here is one that has me pulling myhair out - any advice?
In June of last year, I  moved house and found that I was unable to sign up to BT Infinity as I was connected to an out of date and underground phone line that was several miles away from the exchange. Neither BT or OpenReach would re-route me and so I was stuck on a 4mb broadband service.
In January of this year, as a result of a new build in land adjacent to me I met a very helpful OpenReach engineer who placed an order on the system for me for infrastructure capable of supporting super fast broad band, he then connected me to a fiber enabled cabinet along with my new neighbours. I paid OpenReach directly for this.
My current broadband is a standard 20mb service from Sky and it has now been optimized to 17mb but what i really need is Infinity.
Having spoken to BT (my preferred option), Plusnet and Sky to verify the response, I am told by everyone that my line is only capable of delivering 15.6mb. I have been told that this is data held by BT Wholesale and that BT Wholesale reference an OpenReach system.
BT Retail have told me that they are unable to give me infinity above 15.6mb and that the issue over speed is with me as I dealt with OpenReach directly. suggesting that I will only get 15.6mb and no one will help me improve once I am signed up as I sourced the infrastructure directly. I cannot sig up with plusnt or sky as they dont recognise me as being able to consume their fiber broadband.
OpenReach tell me that the cable installed is capable of delivering 80-100m and that there are over 40 other users connected to the same cabinet who get 60 plus. I have neighbours connected to the same cabinet on the same infrastructure who are achieving 60m plus.
I had a call with OpenReach again yesterday who who have told me that it’s no longer their issue and that until I am on a fiber service there is nothing more for them to do.
I had a call with BT retail yesterday who confirmed that my line speed was only 15.6mb and that they would only gaurantee this level.
so, Openreach say that my line speed should be 60 plus and BT retail say my line speed is only 15.6mb (confirmed by Sky and Plusnet)
a few questions spring to mind,
Is there a way of actually checking line speed?
I get 17mb on speedtest.net but this isnt the issus as the speed in is only 20, so a degradation of 3mb whichis reasonable as I am only 825m fromthe exchange.
Is there a line speed database somewhere that is stuck on 15.6mb, that everyone references ?
How can I get BT retail or Openreach to help me get this sorted out - it feels to me like a computer says no issue...either that or openreach have not put in the infrastructre I asked for.
any thoughts?  Can you please help me overcome the last hurdle.
    Yours in good faith. Ian

    Hi Mark,
thanks for the answer, i am only 120m from the cabinet and this is bourne out by my Sky broadband service to to the exchange of 20, optimised to 18 at the supply end and I get 17mb - so, I guess this would line up with the very short distance to the cabinet.
this is backed up by the test results using your link:
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 17Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 10Mbps and 19.5Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 1.5Mbps and downstream line speed of 17Mbps; typically the downstream speed would range between 10Mbps and 19.5Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 15.6Mbps and upstream line speed of 3.5Mbps.
I am FTTC enabled - but am at a loss to explain whether its openreach havent put in the right capability or its a computer says no issue.
is the above referencing the sky 20mb service? or is the test referencing actuals? if so, i dont get why others get 60 plus from the same cabinet ?
    Ian.

  • 1.8 miles (as copper would run) from FTTC cabinet ...

SuperfastBerkshire has connected me with someone in a neighboring village with similar speed issues to mine (1-3Mbps).  The difference being that he is conneced to an FTTC enabled cabinet (7 from Littlewick Green).   His post code is SL6 5NL and he is about a mile from the cabinet as the bird flies and maybe two if you follow any logical path for copper.   Yet some how there is enough copper between him and his cabinet to give him that kind of speed?
I can understand the legacy of stuff that might lead to this but doesnt Openreach have some obligation to fix the sins of the past?  Instead they are suggesting that his alternative is Fibre to the Premise or, you guessed it, try to get government funding?   Sure, if I were them, I would rather get paid for cleaning up messes in their infrastructure but should they not have some responsibility to do so on their own accountability?
    Regards,
    Wisar for a neighbor

    FTTC.
Here is another interesting data point.   A place called Black Boys Inn is right up the street from them and gets an FTTC speed of 7.7-18.5Mbps which I believe implies that they are 1.8km from the cabinet.   I measure it at closer to 1.5km but I guess there is some wasted copper somewhere.   Going from there to the center of his post code makes the distance about 2.2km from the cabinet for a possible top speed of 14.8Mbps.
Obviously that is not the route the copper is taking.   The funny thing is the size of the village of Hurley.   In order to stretch copper far enough to give him such crappy performance it would have to loop back and forth a couple of times...which I assume is what it is doing.
Which begs my original question, doesnt Openreach bear some responsiblity for fixing a rats nest of wiring as opposed to asking the customer to pay for trenching fibre to the premise or asking the government to make the investment to fix the mess?
    Wisar!

  • FTTC Cabinet 10 meters away from me and enabled ?

Hi I seem to have a problem the exchange I'm connected to is (Polegate) and it says it's been enabled since may 2012. However i am unable to order bt infinity and haven't been since its been enabled , I live in a new build and the cabinet is approx 10 meters away from me! I went to the site sales office and asked them if they knew anything about FTTC and they said its already been enabled. So please can someone double check as lots of my friends from polegate can get infinity and it's very frustrating because my speed is about 3mb. My postcode is bn266fb it sometimes does not recognise on website due to the houses being new . Many thanks

hi enter your phone number in to this checker it is the only one used by BT and all other providers it is the only site that gives current information

  • BT Cabinet Locations for BT Infinity

I checked my location in Scarborough, North Yorkshire and it came up with 3 possible cabinets I could be connected to:
    P45 - 10%
    P36 - 57%
    P35 - 32%
Does anyone know the physical location of these three cabinet numbers?

    Morning!
This is my first post, and i hope this is the right way to ask the question.
I'm off the Farnham exchange, on cabinet P7 i believe, any chance you know where that cab is? I'm desperately trying to find out if BT plan to upgrade the cabinet as it seems to be one of the few off the exchange which hasn't been.
    Many thanks.

  • FTTC - Cabinet 25, Cirencester, GL7

    Hello,
Although samknows says that Cirencester (SSCIR) has been rolling out partial FTTC for months (years?) in my town; and even though there are new cabs on my road a short distance from the house; and even though I've signed up all over bt.com to be told when Infinity is available, I can't get info out of anyone at BT why/when FTTC will be available to my house.
I've spoken to multiple openreach guys working on the cab in the street - none of them claim to know anything.
Cabinet 25, Cirencester. My full postcode and phone number in all online checkers state that FTTC is available. How come I can't order it then?!
Can anyone give me an authoritative answer please?
    Thanks.

Did you really mean that about your phone number ??  Normally if http://www.dslchecker.bt.com says that FTTC is available for your phone number, BT will accept an order for it.  Checking your postcode or your address is less reliable and you shouldn't set too much store by the results, but if it says it's available for your phone number then I'm not sure why you're having a problem.

  • FTTC Cabinet upgrade review process

Is there a way I can request a review on particular cab? I live in a relatively new development with 200+ properties and I can't fathom why when the cab on the edge of the development has been upgraded yet we haven’t.
Is there an appeal process I can go through to at least to have our cab reassessed. I appreciate there maybe technical as well as commercial reason why this hasn't been upgraded.

There's no way to find out or appeal anything I'm afraid. The best you can do is get as many people who are served from that cabinet to register their interest here - http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/expression-gen.aspx

It was explained to me once but I forgot.....
The ECI cabinet model in the picture can support both 128 and 256 lines from what I've read - They don't look any different from the exterior.
I believe all the difference is, is the DSLAM (ECI M41) is just populated with higher density/more line cards with the 256 line cabinet.
If it says 256L on the back though I'd lean towards the 256 figure as that's what was approved by the engineer who did the initial testing at the factory/warehouse.
Edit - Re: capacity of ECI cabs - The M41 can be populated with up to four 64-port line cards (provided external splitters are used, which there are in the cabinet) so a 256 cab is fully populated. Not sure on whether OpenReach install more backhaul capacity than the usual 1Gbps most 128/96 cabinets have though.
